Gilmore Girls Limited-Series Revival Set at Netflix — This Is Not a Drill

By Michael Ausiello

THIS JUST IN: We’re getting those final four words!

Sources confirm that Netflix has closed a deal with Warner Bros. for a limited-series revival of Gilmore Girls penned by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and exec producer Daniel Palladino.

Although negotiations with the cast are only now beginning, I’m told all of the major players — most notably Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson — are expected back for the continuation. Additionally, per multiple insiders, the revival will consist of four 90-minute episodes/mini-movies.

Reps for Warner Bros. and Netflix declined to comment for this story.

And I repeat: This is not a drill.

The deal allows Sherman-Palladino — who left the original series prior to the final season amid a contract dispute with Warner Bros. — to conclude Gilmore Girls as she always intended, right through to those elusive final four words.

AS-P addressed the possibility of a revival over the summer when she reunited with the show’s cast at the ATX TV Festival. “It would have to be the right everything — the right format, the right timing,” she said. “If it ever happened, I promise we’ll do it correctly.”

When I interviewed AS-P in 2009 at Entertainment Weekly, she conceded that the events of the show’s final seventh season didn’t match up with the end game she envisioned for Lorelai, Rory & Co. “I haven’t [actually] seen the last season,” she said at the time, “but I heard about it from other people.”

Even back then, AS-P remained hopeful that she would get to conclude the Gilmore story on her terms, via a limited series or movie. “The beauty of Gilmore, and the beauty of family-relationship shows, is you never really run out of story,” she said. “You’re going to battle your family until you’re all in the ground. Those things never resolve, doesn’t matter how much therapy you get. Ten years later, there’s still going to be [material] there to mine and to delve into.”

Gilmore Girls premiered on the now-defunct WB network in 2000, before transferring to spinoff net The CW in 2006 for its final season.

Did I mention that this isn’t a drill?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Heidi, for keeping this site alive! I'm still a diehard Gilmore fan...own all the Seasons and watch it on "UP". FYI...that channel is having a Gilmore binge-fest this coming Sunday. The Gilmore Girls has stayed near and dear to me.  I couldn't believe I remembered my Login and password! I am so stoked about the Mini Series!
I would love the Org. to come up with a special edition t-shirt to celebrate the new episodes. I would definitely buy one!
If it's meant 2 b...It's up 2 me!

Megan,

Good memory!  ;)  Please feel free to pop in often.

Hi, Sara!

GilmoreGirls.org is indeed alive... in the sense that it exists and is accessible.   ;D

The main site has largely been untouched since 2007, but, to be honest, I kind of like that it exists in that "preserved" state.  It's almost time capsule-esque.  It represents the show as it aired, rather than from DVD or streaming.  There's certainly nothing wrong with watching via those vehicles, but GilmoreGirls.org "reported" during the original run of the show -- which will never happen again -- and, to me, that's kind of neat.  I's a period of time where we were all part of something together.

I don't currently have any intentions to update the main site, but I'd absolutely love to hear from long-time ORG Forum members, such as yourself.  If people are willing to put up with forum technology that's about 10 years old, it would be fun to reconnect!

So Scott Patterson won't confirm or deny anything on Twitter and his smug little responses say everything, haha! He has been so vocal lately on his desire for a reboot and now, nada! It's on baby! Mummas gonna get to say her last four words!

Literally I have been able to think of nothing other than this since the news broke. My friend and I were driving back home from California in practical tears!!

B, Sometimes silence speaks--- none of them have been shy about denying t..alks of a movie in the past so the fact that all they can say is "I can't confirm and I can't deny".. It's pretty much set in stone
So now that we are pretty much 100% positive this is happening, what do you all think it will be about???

Also, this is beautiful.

I had this thought about 10 minutes ago... Since 2016 is a presidential election year, I wonder if Rory will be covering the various campaigns.  ;)

Also, this is beautiful.

Thank you!  That's very kind.

Ooh what a nice though. That'd be an awesome plot idea.
I am so excited. This show and you guys here got me through my teenage years.

I am really glad that AS-P will be the writer. Though what I do have to say is Luke and Lorelai better be married with twins or I'll be unhappy

I wonder what it will be about. I mean, it sounds like they intend to cover a season long arc in 6 hours, and from ASP's commentary I gather she wants to undo some of Season 7 as we know it. Last I heard, she still hadn't watched it, though I guess she'll have to now!

edit to avoid double post:
Does anyone remember what we did when we thought it was a drill? I remember the revisiting. I also remember following what the cast was doing the year after the cancellation. I watched every episode of Aliens in America and the Travelling Pants movies. I watched Samantha Who? and Heroes. I only watched the Saw movies cause Scott Patterson was the first guy to beat Saw guy's death trap. I took a crack at Goodwife, but, well, it's Goodwife. Ditto Supernatural. And I was totally stoked when I heard LG was a producer at NBC, and I read Someday Maybe in a day, then binged all of Parenthood. I took in a few spinoff shows like Ugly Betty and followed McCarthy's big screen career. I even remember that first year when I got immersed in the Obama/McCain debates to fill the void.

A lot has happened since our first "drill," and I remember those moments when I was positive it was over and everyone had gotten on with their lives and forgotten. Well, I guess I haven't, and I can't wait to see the new ones and post everything I think about them right here. Who's with me?
