I hope it's okay if I squeeze into your conversation. 
I took Spanish in highschool, and only remember the parts that help me order off of a menu in a Mexican restaurant.  Children should really start learning a second language in Elementary school.  The earlier you start the more you'll remember.

Oh, and I only know how to swear a bit in Dutch.  My Oma (grandma) used to take care of me as a kid, and she'd sometimes let some words slip out.... you know, like when she'd drop something heavy on her foot, or if she'd get upset or something like that.  I'd hear her swear, and repeat it for my friends.

lol, not to mention my dad again..but..he agree's with you too.  He's always saying how they should teach a second language when kids are still very young because then your brains are like sponges and absorbe lots of knowlage.

oh!  I can speak french...barely...example:

Je m'appelle Charlotte Brantley.  J'ai quinze ans.  Je voudrais une steak-frites et une jus d'orange.  Tu aimes joue tennis, oui?

Translation: My name is Charlotte Brantley (my french name at school).  I am 15 years old.  I would like steak and fries and orange juice.  You like to play tennis, yes?

Cool, like I said I know Spainish because my parents are Spanish and my cousin taught me a little bit of French but she only taught me basic things.

When I went to school, we started to learn our first foreign language in 5th grade (English). Now they have changed that and they start earlier (3rd grade). I think, that is much better. I had the chance to learn Russian from 3rd grade on, but didn't do it. I didn't want to go to another school then, because I didn't want to leave my friends. From 7th grade on I learned French, from 9th on Latin and Ancient Greek and in university Portuguese. Sometimes, I get a bit confused. I think, my English is fine, my Portuguese not, but I hope it will get better in the future. I've given up to think that I will be able to speak in French again some day, because I always mix it up with Portuguese. So the next language I'm going to learn is one that isn't similar to any of those languages, like Russian, Turkish or Korean. Turkish is a beautiful language (most Germans wouldn't say it, because Turks are quite unpopular here). My colleague from work is a Turk and we listened to Turkish radio and it sounded so nice.

There's a teacher at my school, this really young guy from Romania, and he's really fun to talk to because he's only like 20.  He can speak French, Spanish, Romanian, and German.  Like fluently.  He has such an amazing accent...it's like he rolls his r's, makes the French nasal sound, and at the same time, has a weird Romanian/German accent because he lived in both of those countries until a few years ago.  I wish I could speak two ro three languages fluently...that is one of my dreams, but I doubt I can do it.  I'm just not too great with foreign languages.

That is so cool when you know so many languages, even if some aren't as good as others.  You can converse with so many different people around the world, I think it is awesome!  My grandparents speak Russian, and my mom cousin's and the oldest of there 3 combind kids is learning Russian, though I haven't seen them for a while, so I don't know how much he knows.  He could say some stuff last time we saw them.
