I love all these ideas!

The one that stuck out the most however, was the music for kids. I believe that music is life, and everyone needs the opportunity to express themselves.

I think we should stick to things that relate to what the show is about : Women, music, education, teen pregnancy, etc.
love is blind so you didn't see me.

I'll do a little researching myself but I absolutly refuse to do ANYTHING related with the U.N.  I'm sorry but I have a firm stance on that....

I am sorry to hear that. Any reason? If you feel like sharing. I can't wait to hear some of your ideas!

Hey. Did you hear about www.freerice.com all of you others? I hear its a fantastic website. C'mon, what is better than free vocabulary (SATS, work...the list could go on forever, I'm to lazy.) and saving starving children? Its hard to beat, especially since it is FREE. :)

Take my hand and drag me head first, fearless.

Theres lots of reasons I hate the U.N. If you did research on them as well I'd gurantee you that you wouldn't like them...  Me personally their creeps, They're useless, and they do absolutley nothing!  One of my biggest things about them is Hotel Rwanda if you don't know what that is look it up.  We never set aside a day for rememberance of that but yet we do for the holocaust "sigh"

I'll stop now though as I dont feel like listing 100 reasons why their bad.... Now carry on back to charity  :)

Actually, I'm sorry but I've done a ton of research on the UN, as well as having family members who work for them.
You're entitiled to your own opinion, but when I've actually seen someone doing work, I disagree entirely that they don't do anything.
Also, it's not up to the UN so set aside 'day's', that's up to the country's government.

i'm not annoyed at them for not setting aside days.  I'm annoyed at them for not doing something that should have been done that doesn't economically or otherwise help them.  After all the U.N. is what is allegedly supposed to control the world... Not the U.S.

Anyway just my oppinion didn't mean to offend if I did...

Well, at any rate, the freerice.com site isn't what we're doing as our org charity donation so it doesn't matter if not everyone agrees with it. If you don't agree, that's alright, don't participate in it. If you do, rock on! :) There...all happy!

I was thinking more about that music and kids thing...I think that might be a great thing! I wonder if there's a program out there that would allow for people to donate and kids to either get lessons or instruments or both?! I think music can do so much positive in one's life! I'd hate to have people deprived of it! I'm going to go research more about this one! And about the other ideas. I want to get some more information and facts so we can know what we're getting into! :)

For me personally, I think music is a little less urgent than food and education. I'd rather donate to something that's gonna save lives. Just me, but I don't think a lack of music in the world is a dire situation right now.

Wow, nice tone in this thread ??? I think that if people are just going to bicker about who to help and why then this is pointless. I have all my own charity things on the go so as disappointing as this is I know I am doing my bit. freerice seems legitimate to me but even if there was a small chance that it wasnt it real - it hasnt cost me anything except that now I know an ingress is an entrance. Its the same with my Kiva loan, sure the people with the loans may default but I know that I have tried to do my bit and if I lose out on $50 so be it, also I am not worried if some of my World Vision money goes to administration, they cant run the charity on fresh air and love. I like to spread my donations around because every little bit helps, and if $5 gets a Cambodian child a school uniform then I am happy to donate my $5 instead of buying a coke and a chocolate bar because even if my fiver goes in some guys pocket at least I tried.

Regarding the freerice ads, my thoughts are that with so many people visiting that site, its just enough for the advertising companies to have their names flashing up there through all that high traffic, if 2% of people visiting the site recognise the name at some point and use their services then the ads have paid for themselves, its really only about branding and getting your name out there and my guess is that the invoices they are sent arent for 'advertising' they are for 'giving rice to poor people with a free website advertisment' which makes the ad tax deductable. So whether you like it or not, if you are paying taxes, you are supporting freerice.com :)

Hear, hear!!!!
I'm kind of in the same boat, to be honest, I have a lot of my own charity stuff going on of myself.
I guess there's not point having one though, if half the members on the org don't trust the charty, and half the members don't like what the charity supports, we're not going to get much donated.

Which I can understand, I would rather donate money to something I know is helping people, than taking a fluke on something I don't believe is neccessary, or from what I've heard, is basically ripping off the people it's supposed to be supporting.

We need to agree on somewhrere before it can be chosen. And for me, this is one of the (many) things I'm stuborn about, and if we end up with somewhere I don't b elieve in for wahatever reason, it's okay, cuz I'll just keep doing the things I'm doing now, and probably keep giving the same amount of money.

But people deserve their opionion, and their say, on something that's affecting their org. (Well, Heidi's, but you know what I meant :P)

Yeh, maybe I was a bit harsh, lack of sleep = bad mood. Everyone does have the right to an opinion but the vibe in here was a bit 'your charity sucks, mine is better' and we are more mature than that. I think any charity that helps people (or animals) live more comfortably is a worthwhile cause, I just dont see how the current conversation is getting us any closer to helping anyone. By the time we get it sorted out I will have already donated a bazillion grains of rice and stopped hunger in an entire country :-P

Hug and make up?  :D I would prefer to support something that will feed children or clothe them, along those lines. Music IS important, but you can't practice music if you are starving and nakkie! But if the group chooses to support music, so be it. I'll do what I can as well.

As for www.freerice.com (Notice how I try to put that link in every post?  ;D), I say, HOORAY for all the ladAies. and gents. Okay. End of my rhyming cause apparently I can't. I used some words in a conversation with my English teacher the other day...and I felt really. reallllly smart. Who doesn't like that feeling? And I have donated so much rice, I could feed a nation. (Well not really.) Anybody want to set up the org riceathon? I can't guarantee computer times for myself or I would do it. Living in a family of five with one computer=cahos. But I would like to see that done. Any takers??

Take my hand and drag me head first, fearless.
