I just... like to see you happy.
Of all the men that Lorelai had been with, was engaged to, and for a while, was even married to one. Only Luke could say something like that with all of his heart and the fact that he never loved anyone as much as Lorelai. It was just that simple declaration is what I think made Lorelai realize, despite the past few years of anguish, disappointments, and even heartbreak, Luke is the one for her.
I think the season in terms of acting and character really belongs to Scott Patterson. He provided more dimensions and complexities to Luke out of all the characters. There's always a season in which an actor stands out among the rest but the last season really belonged to Scott Patterson as he was the one person through all the crappy storylines and melodrama was the one that really kept me watching and interested despite all the bullsh*t that happened.
If this episode was a season finale. I think it would've been a great season finale and one of the best episodes. The bad thing about is that it was a series finale and it was a really good episode but not a great way to end the show.
The seventh season, after seeing it now, is really one of the most chaotic and troubled seasons I had experienced. There was stuff in the sixth season that really became troubled but that first half of the 7th season truly has some of the worst moments of the series. Notably the Lorelai-Christopher relationship that started out fine but it got heavy-handed until it collapsed.
I think once the 2nd half began with Lorelai realizing that she still has feelings for Luke was the show starting to come back but the damage was done from all that had happened with the sixth and first half of the 7th season.
With this episode. I'm glad it ended on a happy note though I found the lack of conclusion to be a bit upsetting. Luke and Lorelai are back together and Rory gets a big job reporting on the Obama campaign trail. The end?
I'm sorry but that's not enough. I was happy to see Richard and Emily be moved by how much Lorelai meant to the town and the fact that the Friday Night Dinners will continue. I think the fact that a true reconciliation between Lorelai and her parents never really materialized. Lorelai's going to attend Friday Night Dinners all by herself doesn't seem fun. I actually wanted more. I think that's what irked me about how the series ended.
I liked the final scene because it was composed exactly like the first pilot ended. It was about those 2 girls. Lorelai and Rory and how they're going to be in this wonderful adventure. 7 years later, Rory is about to take over the world while Lorelai is going to be in Stars Hollow doing what she's doing but the best part is the third person that is behind them that's going to be there for them always in Luke.
I think if the Lorelai and Rory never existed. Luke probably would've been this completely grumpy diner owner who doesn't show his feelings and just be this cold man with the good coffee at a diner. If Luke never was around. Lorelai would go through bad relationship after bad relationship never finding some form of safety while Rory would probably feel alone in the fact that she never had a father figure to be there for her. I think that Lorelai-Rory-Luke as a trio really bring the best in each other. That final shot from the pilot to the last episode showed that it's about those 3 and how they managed to turn things around for each other. Luke gained the possibility of someone to be with and the idea of a family while Lorelai finally found the person who would give her that happy ending. For Rory, it would give her the chance to feel happy and be glad that the man in her mom's life is cooking for her and such. While the show is called
Gilmore Girls. I think in a way it's really about 2 young coffee-addicted women and their grouchy coffee supplier with a heart of gold. Now that's a great show...
And for those who haven't been reading the
Virtual Gilmore Girls series. Here's what happened, so far. Lorelai and Luke got back together, become happier, and more content where Luke moves into the Crap Shack and by the 9th season, got married, and have a newborn baby girl named Ellie aka Pop Tart in May of 2009. Rory does the Obama campaiging report which doesn't really go well until she quits, takes her time to put herself back up where she gets published at Salon. After a brief stint writing freelance, she finally lands a gig working for the prestigious Hartford Courant and gains a new boyfriend in her apartment neighbor named Kevin. Richard and Emily Gilmore meanwhile are just as snobbish as ever while maintaining a lively sex life as Emily collaborates with Lorelai to expand the Dragonfly with a spa to great success while Richard quits the insurance business to become a Yale professor.
So in a way, it's not over. It's never going to be over. I won't accept it. I need my Java Junkie fix. I need to know what the entire Gilmore-Danes clan are doing. How can I not enjoy a night that features Lorelai, Rory, Luke, Sookie, Lane, Michel, Paris, Kirk, April, Emily, Richard, Liz, T.J., Jackson, Miss Patty, Babette, Taylor, Gypsy, Andrew, Zach, Brian, Gil, Doyle, Mrs. Kim, Caesar, Lulu, Doula, Dawson (Liz & T.J.'s new baby), Jess, Logan, Anna, Christopher, Paul Anka, and that recently deceased Asian guy named Larry who works at Luke's diner? It's not over. It'll be over once we get that f*cking
Gilmore Girls film going. No sequel. Just one movie to tie everything up and give everyone the best ending the fans can get.

Ok. Maybe we won't do that. I'll just watch the entire series over again and wait for Season 10 in September. Enjoy!
