Hmm...now I am really curious.  I will have to check it out.  I have heard of the band and always thought they would be something like korn or alkaline trio or something along those lines.  The innocense mission meets sonic youth meets the cocteau twins...very interesting.  How, though, is that different from rock?  I mean, all Curt Cobain does in the video for smells like teen spirit is stare at his shoes.  A lot of rockers just stare down, mostly at the guitar and fingerings for it.  The ramones, sex pistols, etc..all stare down at the ground.  What other bands would be in this genre?  I always thought it meant more twee and softer sounds...like the softies and innocence mission.  Kind of like the nerdy, kind of hip kids in school who are shy and stare at the ground, but in fact, are really cool once you get to know them.  BTW...yes, I really really like the softies and the innocense mission.  I would love to have Rose Melberg sing me to sleep every night!

Shoegaze is all about guitars where they drone a lot, have weird effects where it's noisy yet dreamy at the same time. 

Yesterday, I downloaded Smile by Ride, a compilation of the band's 2 EPs from 1990 just before the release of their debut album Nowhere.  Another essential album of that genre.

And I also just got Grease (soundtrack) again! I love those songs! Such feel good songs!

ABBA! The guiltiest of guilty pleasures. Who can resist? But i draw the line at seeing the movie, not a chance. Grease is not a guilty pleasure, it's simply a pleasure. Those Su-ummer Ni-iiiiights...

Not me.  I like Grease and its soundtrack but... I had other things to distract me.

I like ABBA but don't have any of their stuff.  If I did, it's in my closet.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out when to download the new David Byrne/Brian Eno once I finish my shoegaze albums list and after that, download the first Byrne/Eno album they did back in 1981.   

There's a lot of My Bloody Valentine videos on Youtube.  They're kind of obscure.  I have some in my external hard drive.

Yes, Rose is certainly an underappreciated singer.  Man, I love every single band that she has been in!  OK, Ok, what about Sigur Ros, they do a lot of trippy guitar stuff.  Umm...Explosions In the Sky? Would that be similar?  I am definately going to have to do some more research!

Sigur Ros... not really.  They have shoegaze elements.  Notably in Agaetis Bryjun with its droning guitars. 

Explosions in the Sky.  No.  They're more of a loud-ass, noise-rock band. 

Probably the most famous act that has a shoegaze sound is Garbage.  Notably the first album on songs like "Vow" and "Stupid Girl" yet, they've been accused for ripping off the music of the band Curve.  Which is true in a lot of ways since Curve has created a lot of the sounds you hear on Garbage's first album.  Yet, I liked Garbage's first album a lot.  Their second and fourth were alrite but their third was terrible.

Ahhhh thank you Rupe!!!  I was beginning to think that I was the only person totally annoyed by scrolling through half the page to get past somebody's signature.  We have forum guidelines people and they should be adhered to!  200 high x 600 wide

Anyone into Brian Eno?

Wow, i actually see a familiar name on this thread. I love Eno's hard-to-find early solo albums, Taking Tiger Mtn., Here Come The Warm Jets and Another Green World. Not to mention his contributions to early Roxy Music and production of Talking Heads and U2.

I agree! I won't see the movie either...a bit scared to actually. But, a guilty pleasure indeed!

I'm going to have to check out Eno - have had a few others suggest him as well.

I have 2 of Eno's ambient albums and his solo debut.  I love the work he did with Roxy Music and I'm highly anticipating the upcoming Roxy Music album that Eno has contributed on a few things.  I love the stuff he did with Bowie, Talking Heads, and U2.

He just released a new album he did with David Byrne that's out on the net on Byrne's website for $9.  That's reasonable.

I'm not a fan of ambient music, but i like Eno's music for the movie Traffic, especially the music during the closing credits. I forgot about his great work with Bowie, including "Heroes" and most of the Low and Lodger albums. The spacey music in the second half of Low doesn't particularly interest me, except "Warszawa."

Low is my favorite of the Berlin trilogy.  If it wasn't for that album, there wouldn't be synth-pop or industrial music. 

The music that Eno did in Traffic comes from the Apollo:  Atmosphere & Soundtracks with Daniel Lanois & Roger Eno.

I'm into esoteric music and I find it very inspirational.
