This is an excellent episode. That opening scene of Rory at Chilton. Whoa! It's weird seeing her in a Chilton uniform with her current hairstyle. Then she's kicked out. Lorelai decides to go to Hawaii and then we see the McMasters. Doyle and Paris with their kids. Aw, they kinda look like a cute family together and then wow. Poor Rory. Getting no opportunities and all that stuff.
Luke is wearing the blue hat again. Oh, thank God. I hate the black hat and I think he and Lorelai are starting to get a bit comfortable again in just being friends. He was taking her advice on the boat trip and he felt grateful for it. Then April called with some news about a science camp and I kinda feel sorry for her. On the one hand, she is given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something very prestigious and then, that would mean no boat trip with her dad and she probably felt bad about it. I think once Luke said that she can go and do the trip another time and they said "I love you" to each other shows how close they are when just a year-and-a-half ago, they just knew about each other.
I liked the stuff with Lane and Zach. Sucks Lane won't go on tour but Zach at least is going on tour for 2 months for more than one reason. At least he gets to play and get some experience while making money for his family. Hep Alien will rock on again soon (and they do as of Virtual Season 9 where they score a record deal and make a record).
The karaoke scene was great. Patti and Babette were a hoot though Kirk did an OK job with the Culture Club song. Yet, it was Lorelai and whoa... Lauren Graham can sing. I was surprised at how straightforward it was and it started off lighthearted but once Luke came in. Wow, it got dusty. I think he got a little emotional because despite all that had happened. She still loves him. I think it caught her by surprise and she's just trying to digest all of this. I think when Zach found the black hat and gave it to Luke. I think he sees it as a reminder of a dark period and maybe kept it as some part of a memory as he's now becoming comfortable in wearing the blue hat. Then again, he probably got rid of the black hat later on or kept in case something goes wrong with him and Lorelai.
That last scene with Logan was wow. He wants to marry Rory and Lorelai is stunned.
