Almost forgot -- let's remember to watch Supernatural tonight -- it's the episode where the Winchester Brothers take the tour of the Warner Studios and go through a familar exterior set.  If you normally watch Grey's Anatomy or CSI "live" and tape/TiVo/DVR Supernatural, let's reverse that tonight and maybe bump up Supernatural's ratings a bit!

Ok, boys, considering the last 2 posts have been from you guys concerning ratings and whatnot and you both seem well versed in the happenings of entertainment, let me ask you... can "they" really tell that "I'm" watching Gilmore Girls?

*What is the real deal with Neilsen boxes?* For a while I thought it was fruitless (for the sake of ratings) that I religiously watch certain shows because as far as I know no one is keeping track of my tv....? I don't get it. I see the stats in Entertainment Weekly and yet I don't really get where those numbers came from and how can they be fairly representative of what real Americans are watching if noone's asking me or the people I know? If there really are Neilsen families with special boxes, them how come I have never once heard of anyone, not even a friend of a friend of a friend that is a part of it- is it a secret, like the CIA...you'll never know....  It just doesn't make sense to me sometimes how things like that work. How can execs not know which shows are beloved? (Remember when My So Called Life got canceled and people were outraged? Well, I was at least. A lot of people I knew were watching it. How did it not get the 'ratings'?) I don't know...sorry if this is a rant.

I just really find it hard to believe that people would rather watch crap like NCIS than Gilmore Girls... And what is up with ratings ?!

I can't answer anything about 'boxes' and what not. But about 10 years ago (maybe not that long ago, but it seems it was) my household received a call from Neilson and they sent out this survey package to us. We had a booklet for each TV in the house and for the TV we watched, we had write down everything that we watched or taped on it. We had to do that for a week. And at the end of the week there was a space in the back of the book for comments and stuff. Then at the end of the week, we sent everything back to Neilson. That's all I can remember. Maybe that was a way they figured out what was being watched and what not. I don't know, lol.

A Neilsen box is an electronic box that they attach to your tv.  You don't have to write anything down, as far as I know.  All they do is attach it to your tv and it moniteres what you watch.  They asked my mom if they could hook one up, but my mom didn't want to because "It would just be one more thing to dust, and I don't dust very often anyways!"  Grr.  I told her to say YES next time!

Well I don't know a whole lot but I know a bit so I will try to explain as best I can!

6,000 (or something along those lines) people get randomly selected and asked to have this neison box installed in their home to tell who is watching what, when and on which network. If the home owner agrees to have this box installed, someone will come down and install it. They ask who is in the household like how many are 18-49 and/or how many are 16-34, etc, etc. Thats how they tell the ratings. People who watch GG on The CW and don't have that box, do not count in the ratings so when you read the ratings, they really aren't very accurate. I don't have that box or The CW network but I still watch GG every tuesday night at 8:00pm every week.

I know that I've been MIA guys... but its finals time and I'm swamped... I really need to bring my GPA back up! Anyways.. I have been reading all of you guys posts' nightly.. and I just wanted to say, AWESOME EFFORT! I have still been sending letters and everything, so I havent been at a complete lacking. Okay, so while we are getting all these favourable reports for a season 8 it is important to remember that nothing is confirmed, YET.  We should take this opportunity to really send the GG love and get as many people as possible sending mail .  On that note I'm going to re-post the latest mail campaign information from a few days ago.  For all international fans, try and send it ASAP so it arrives at a time as close to our US friends as possible.

New Mail-Out for the Great8Mandate

For a while now we have toyed with the idea of sending daisies to Lauren Graham but have struggled to come up with a workable plan.  And even more recently LoganNRory4ever organised a great book campaign which involved sending books to Alexis Bledel.  Now we are combining the two ideas and organising an en masse mailing campaign to send as many paper daisies and books as possible to the Girls and the Studio.

To take part all you need to do is print out any of the following graphics you like and write your own personal message, or one of our organised quotes, on them.  You can print it on card and send it as a postcard, or on paper and include several in an envelope.  Our mailing date will be Wednesday April 25th, so if you live internationally it would serve you best to try and post yours off before the end of this current week in order to time their arrival with our US friends mail out. 

My suggestion is to send the daisies to Lauren, the books to Alexis and a combination of the both to the studio.  The addresses for all these can be found in the first post of this thread.

maybe we can also send e mails to other tv talk shows to try to get them to help support Season 8... why I say this is because the CW does not air all over the U.S. in the CW is a very small network as most people know and so their rating will not be very high. well back on track. my point is that Alexis and Lor have appeared on a few talk shows and maybe we can get them to help us. this is just an idea.

Yes this has already been thought of alot of people are sending letters to Ellen since her and Lauren are kinda tight and oprah cause...well...shes Oprah but we appreciate you for putting your idea out there even though it had already been thought of. Thanks for taking part in The Great8Mandate!
