This is what I said in my letters to executives, etc-
"I write to you on something of the utmost importance. It is something that not only affects me but millions of people as well. There is a television show currently on TV that is in danger of becoming cancelled for a renewed season. This may seem unimportant to you but to us fans, it is not just a television show… it’s a way of life. The program is called; “Gilmore Girls” which airs Tuesday nights on the newly formed CW network. I write on behalf of the “Great8Mandate” mission at GilmoreGirls.org who’s task it is to let the public and persons involved with the production of the show be aware of the need for an eighth season. Not only that but In addition, I also write on behalf of this hardworking, articulate and dedicated individual fan."
I put very personal things here but because I'm in a public forum I'm not going to reveal them. "Gilmore Girls is a breath of fresh air in my otherwise hectic and stressful life. It gives me something to look forward to and always puts me in a happy mood.
So when I heard there might not be an eighth season I wanted to do all I could to try and insure that it happens. Because Gilmore Girls not only means a lot to me but it also means a lot to millions of people and to the CW network. Gilmore Girls is one of the very few constantly strong ratings for the struggling new network. The fans of “Gilmore Girls” are also fans of other CW shows. Whatever shows which follows “Gilmore Girls” usually receives around the same amount of ratings as it does. With this said, if an 8th season doesn’t occur there is little chance the same loyal fans of “Gilmore Girls” will stick with the other shows and an even slimmer chance they will try out new programs of the CW. I for one; don’t watch any other television show on CW except for One Tree Hill and Top Model on some occasions. That means if CW doesn’t air one last new season of “Gilmore Girls”, odds are I will not watch the CW at all. I even watch “Gilmore Girls” over American Idol.
A big reason for why we need an 8th season is because the current season didn’t fair well to us fans at all. Ever since the creators, Amy Sherman and Dan Palladino, departed the show, it had “jumped the shark” as the phrase goes. It started when the creators left the storyline where Lorelai and Luke were in a rut with their soon-to-be-marriage and Lorelai ended up sleeping with her ex. There are two walls, which hold up the “Gilmore Girls” house; the relationship between Lorelai and Luke is one of them. It has been literally painful to watch the first half of season 7 because of that. Another factor into the fans’ bad reactions to season 7 has to do with the horrible production of it. Writers who hardly seemed to have a clue as to who the characters are, scripts which left out many of the loveable characters we have become attached to, boring storylines, scripts with forced references that weren’t funny, badly researched facts, seeing some of the acting off/hard to reach emotions, scenes that were filmed with cloudy or bad shots, the sound being so low the people who air it had to put the controls on top volume just so we could hear it, and in general a lack of love for the show.
Now with so many complaints why do we need an eighth season? The answer is because that was the first part of the season. From episode 7.11 and on, the show has improved so much like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. With the strong continueous efforts of David Rosenthal, the writing from Rebecca Rand Kirshner and David Grae, with the directing of Jamie Babbit and Lee Shallat Chemel; the show has taken an unprecedented turn for the better. By the end of the seventh season they should have the episodes down and be able to satisfy fans for an 8th season. However, Lorelai and Luke are still not back together romantically yet and Rory is still in Yale. The time Lorelai and Luke spend apart from one another might on the surface seem like a terrible thing but the ripples it has been creating I believe will turn into waves. Because ripples don't just pop up on their own, something has to be creating them; a stone, a shake underground, an organism swimming around, or even a rain drop. Whatever it is, the action is causing a change to the still, cold water. In short what I mean is; even though they are apart from one another, something always seems to happen to bring them back into each other's lives. It's not that they want to interrupt each other's lives but they have supported each other through bad times for so long that it just seems unnatural for them not to be there. They truly do need each other and I think they are only strongest when they are together. By the time the season ends, us fans will be lucky if we even get to see Lorelai and Luke in a deep relationship, let alone taking it to the level it should’ve been during season 6… where they get married and have a baby. Additionally, we will only get to see Rory graduate from Yale but what will come of her? What kind of struggles will she have to go through to be successful… will she be successful at all?
These inquires and demands will not be answered by the last episode… if they do at this point they will seem forced. We desperately need an 8th season to find out. After the horrible season we had this past year, us loyal fans want the kind of final season that this amazing show deserves. The ratings for a wedding between Lorelai and Luke would sky rocket and have the highest ratings of GG ever. Seeing them in married life doesn’t have to be boring like some people may fear. The fun thing about Lorelai and Luke is that you never know how they will react to something and most of their fights are entertaining. Unfortunately, the two leading female actresses (the heart and soul of “Gilmore Girls”) are having a hard time coming to an agreement to continue with this series. Not to mention other actors who have been offered parts in other television roles, which puts a serious damper on the efforts to have an 8th season. There have been rumors that Alexis wishes to pursue other career options, is adamant not to do an eighth season and Lauren Graham won’t follow through without her. I think if Alexis was to just record her voice for phone conversation with Lorelai and make occasional guest appearances that it could be enough to satisfy viewers, however having her onboard all the way would be so much more gratifying. Anything to get one last season with Lorelai.
One more year is all we fans ask for. One more year to make things right and have the show go out on top. Bring to the show closure; bring to the show an 8th season."
I have an even BETTER one in stall for Ellen.
