I'm in high school, too.  I do read a lot and I get supergood grades (I'm not bragging, it's only because I work my ass off 99% of the time I'm not sleeping), and I guess I am kind of a "dork".  But I've never gotten picked on.  I guess it's because I'm kind of a charismatic person...I'm really friendly and outgoing, I try to be nice to people, etc.  When people DO mess with me, I don't just take it, either.  Make me mad and it's kind of scary.

But I do know a lot of people that have been made fun of.  High school kids are so cruel, it amazes me.  I hate to even be grouped with that type of people.  But you know, I can only say try to ignore them and try to stand up for yourself.

On a random note, since this is a Reading Thread and whatnot...has anyone read The Good Earth?

Whoa guys, isn't this the reading thread?  I know it's not the fista cuffs thread (LOL).   Anyways...., I haven't been reading lately, because my boyfriend has been ditching work for the past couple of days, and I can never find anytime with him around to read.  I'm gonna try picking up The curious incident of the dog at night-time.  I've been wanting to read that for a while now.

You two should try reading together.(what's this skipping work thing all about....?)  My husband and I have read the whole Harry Potter series together and it's been a blast.  It's also fun so we can read in parts, my favorite is to read as  Hermonione.(sp?..I don't care right now though)

It's Hermione, I think. Haha, that sounds like fun!

I'm currently reading Emma by Jane Austen, but I might leave it because I have several books I have to read for school.

I love that book, I've read it when I was 16.

wow, Gone with the Wind, that's an amazing job!  Such a big book, I agree!

I just finished up the two latest Meg Cabot books, and I want to start reading books like Rory.  Anyone have a good suggestion of what to start with?

I used to LOVE THEM, I don't know why because they always made me cry.  I've gotten a couple of my students hooked on them, in fact now that I think of it I might just give them to her.  In fact I think I will.

We used to do that with the Tolkien series and it was fun, but he's reading two books right now.  I think they are the second comic from The Sandman series and the latest Stephen King book.  I'm reading Tehanu right now, but I'm going to try reading the other book along with that one.  I hate doing that, but I love to read!!!
