This is about a month late, but ack, I hated The Awakening.  I hated how Edna was apparently a feminist but didn't really act like one.  That's what I wrote my paper on for that book.  I did not enjoy it at all.

A Lot of feminists during that period of time struggled with acting upon their ethical impulses due to the moral expectations; it was a time when then line between morality and ethics was blurred.  Edna was not an activist, she was a woman opressed hoping for something more.

Ok anyone got any opinions on The Awakening or The Five Dysfuntions of a Team? Sigh. Required reading.

Oh, I loved The Awakening!! Although, admittedly a lot of people in my class didn't, but I thought it was a really interesting look at women of the time period.

Speaking of interesting, my English class just finished reading Waiting for Godot. THAT was interesting.

Kate - I think I have that book but have never read it.  I bought it like 5 years ago and packed it away in a box and never thought about it until now.  I should go find it.

Right now I am reading "Can you keep a secret?" by Sophie Kinsella.  Have loved all of her books and love this one.  Could not put it down last night

Hon I totally enjoyed both of those books. They were good choices for required reading :)

Does anyone own a Kindle or any other electronic book device?  Do you like it and is it easy to use and read?

Current Read: The Help by Kathryn Stockett
It's amazingly detailed, it just brings you in and holds you there. I'd recommend this book, even though I'm not finished with it yet.

Another thread to revive.....

I have caught up on the Percy Jackson series.  The first couple were very predictable and formulaic, but by the end I was enjoying the twists and turns.

I am so thrilled that Enders Game will be a movie next year around this time and the cast looks incredible.

Another great read is Micheal Vey and the Prisoneer of Cell 25.

I just read Sophie Flack's Bunheads. I admit I wouldn't have read it without the Gilmore Girls connection, but it was an amazing story about the harsh realities of ballet with kickass characters on incredible personal journeys. There's a lot of ballet jargon in it, but it's really readable, no ten-mile sentences or weird grammar. I'd definitely recommend it for a rainy weekend read.

So since the last post on this thread, so much has happened in the book world!!!

There was The Hunger Games and the Divergent Series, The Giver was made into a (horrible) movie!
The Hobbitses are now on the big screen messing with Smaug, oh and there was Fifty Shades of Grey, haha!

As far as my reading habits go, I have been into The Iliad, Ransom, Frankenstein, Macbeth, 1984 (yawn), To Kill a Mockingbird... as I am studying Ancient History and a bit of literature on the side. I am about to start The Dressmaker which is an Australian novel that is about to be released as a movie.

What are you reading???

Currently reading 'The girl on the train'

Before that I read 'Gone Girl' and 'Before I go to sleep'. I like these kinds of books. The books are much better than the movies though. And I have to say that recently whenever I read I book i always say to myself 'this would make a great movie' - and then i find out that they are currently making it into a movie.

I loved the movie Gone Girl, I should read the book as I am sure it is even creepier :)

I am starting Eat, Pray, Love at the moment too, anyone read that? I haven't seen the movie.

I feel like I should've read Gone Girl as well.. That's exactly the type of book I like and now that you know the ending it sorta ruins things.

My favorite book ever (besides Harry Potter...) would probably The Lovely Bones. I just read It's Kinda A Funny Story which was kinda a funny story and enlightening if you're into Psych stuff. And just an interesting style.

Anyway. What are you reccomendations?

OMG! The lovely bones gave me the feels...until the end. I hated the end!!!!!!!!

Do you read other SciFan after being a Harry Potter fan? Ever read David Eddings?

Also as a Lovely Bones fan you should read Summer to Die and The Woods at the end of Autumn Street by Lois Lowry.

I recently read unbroken and it was very well done. So inspiring for one to go threw so much and be able to keep it together. (I have to admit the Aussie references made me think of my friends from here).  Worth the read. I liked how it told his story without dwelling on the negative parts too much. I doubt I could handle watching the movie/

Is anyone on good reads?

I did finally read The Hunger Games last December after protesting them so long. I did enjoy them, but I am not a huge dystopian fan. I have yet to see any of the movies.

I had fun reading Janet Evanovich Fox & O'Hare series so far, very much a Rom Com Covert Affairs.

There is a start, always looking for a good read.

b nice list of classics there!  :bam:
