Yes, I also agree it would be a good idea to have a specific goal - such as the $200 Heidi mentioned and go from there.  As far as what charity we should donate to, that's a toughie.  There are quite a few good ones out there.  My personal preference is something that deals with the building of schools or donating of books to an underdeveloped area (because education is really what is going to turn around the cycle of poverty more than anything) OR anything involving breast cancer research.  I really am all about the second one for personal reasons and because it is great that it has a GG connection in that Lauren Graham's mother passed away from it and it is a cause she supports.  I realize this doesn't necessarily fit into the "see results" category.

Obviously, these are just my personal preferences but I would support any charity that ends up being chosen.

I absolutely love these ideas.
I bet that this website will start being known worldwide with all of the donations to a charitable cause, you never know. And it's also good that people are doing things for a good cause, and everyone is willing to help.
Such nice people around here =]]

This is just a re-direction post for all the discussion going on about us finding a cause to support as a community.  It now has it's own thread, ORG Community Charity.  I thought it might be easier for people to find if it had a thread of it's own, plus it throws the idea out to the wider community, as I'm sure not everybody stops by here (I know the idea seems crazy to me too ;), but it's true).

Please bring your previous posts/thoughts on the subject over there so that all involved have a full view of the topic as it has developed.

Thanks  :)

Edit:  Just got home from a huge day out and am about to cook some dinner for my guys but just thought I'd pop by and see what's happening.   I glanced at the members and we have exactly  13,000 members.

That is just an amazing feat Heidi.  The site continues to be busy and productive and a great place to be and with that many members you should be very proud of your baby!!  Congratulations!

Hmmm that must be one juicy apple to get Heidi in the eye. Pomegranates really aren't juicy I think. Watermelons are more watery. I'm going to go with a citrus...but which one. I seem to be getting very scientific with these past couple of polls  :D

I've had grapefruit juice sprayed in my eye before and it's quite unpleasant...once you get over a couple second burning feeling it's okay  :D Oh the pains we suffer by eating healthy LOL

I really don't know which citrus to pick......I'll agree with Mira and pick the clementine

Liquid diet lives on! One could continue a liquid diet with fruit juices  8)

Happy 13,000 + members!!! :celebrate:

I chose grapefruit. Out of no special reason. And just wrote it so don't forget what I picked, lol.

Hmmm, pomegranates don't really squirt, it's winter in 'US right now, so watermelon would be out of season.
I'm going to go with grapefruit, because you eat it with a spoon usually, so digging in the spoon would put your eye in prime position to be squirted. Anything you taake bites out of is more likely to squirt onto the person sitting in front of you than into your own eye!
That's my theory anyway!

Since I know nothing about fruit, (I just eat it, don't try and squirt it. ;)) I choose the pomegranate. C'mon, you know it is fun to say.

Of the choices, grapefruit is the classic juice-squirt-in-the-eye fruit (and it stings the most), so i chose that one. :) There was a "Seinfeld" episode that dealt with a grapefruit squirting in the eye incident.
