Lorelai has infinite lives. Cats are jealous with only nine. But Lorelai is more worthy of all those lives.

It's a German name, I think. At least, that's what my Mum says. But she's a lying trollop. I once knew someone called Lorelai, but she was called 'Lolly' for short.

Wow, that's alot of Lorelai's!
It would be weird if your husband named your kid after an ex-girlfriend. I would not allow that, hahaha.

The name or word Lorelai does have German roots. But before GG came along, i always associated the name with the American south, spoken with a southern twang by a southern belle. I used to know a gal nicknamed 'Lolly," but her real name was Lorraine.

Yeah, if Dean & Lindsay had a child, Lindsay just might object to naming their daughter Lorelai!

I think it's supposed to be spelt Lorelei, as well. Well, that's the German way.

Yaeh, I get the Southern Belle picture in my head too!! I wonder where that's from.......

you think? hm, it doesnt sound german at all. it might be a verison of lorely or sth...it might have a nordic origin. i m pretty sure it s not german german. but maybe has sth to do with the languaeges and tribes of the past that lived in north and central europe and from which the germans descended :)

EDIT: tried to find out :) turns out kate and i are both right :) it comes from german, but from Old High German, which was spoken between 750 and 1050, so in the very earliy middle ages :)

and as far as the internet tells me it comes from the follwing two words:
lure = the ambush, lookout and lei = cliff / rock (both words are Old High German, which is why i didn t recognize them as german and kate is still right about the name lorelai coming from german :)

Holy smokes! There are Middy's still around the org! I knew there probably were. It's great to see this thread so active again. Actually, it was me that hadn't been around to it now! Oooops!

This is interesting! I had to do something like this when I was younger, not quite this scale or chart but similar. I don't know what ever happened with my notebook that I was keeping when I was keeping track of my daily emotions. Let's see...for today, I think I'd say I would be a number 5? Only because I'm almost done with my entire undergraduate degree!! So, I'm thinking more optimistic now! I think that I'm doing pretty well these days, but like many have already said, it's up and down, that's just life! :) And that's OK!

I'd love to have a real life Lorelai and Rory relationship sometimes. But then other times, I'm happy not have. I've enjoyed the Lorelai name meaning conversation! The meaning of names has always interested me. It's interesting to find out how close you are to what your name means or if it's anything like what you're like...and to think about what other names mean and how those you know with the name relate to the meaning. Not that anyone asked, but I found this online. It's quite surprisingly true for me, I see myself in it a lot!

Your name of Melissa gives you a clever mind, good business judgment, a sense of responsibility, and an appreciation of the finer things of life. You are serious-minded and not inclined to make light of things even in little ways, and in your younger years you had more mature interests than others your age. Home and family mean a great deal to you and it is natural that you should desire the security of a peaceful, settled home environment where you can enjoy the companionship of family and friends. Whatever you set out to accomplish you do your very best to complete in accordance with what you consider to be right. In the home you assume your responsibilities capably, having the self-confidence to form your own opinions and make your own decisions. Others can rely on you; once you have given your word you will do your utmost to fulfil a responsibility. However, there is a tendency to be a little too independent in your thinking and it is difficult for you to accept the help of others when you should. Due to your strong sense of responsibility, you could experience worry and mental turmoil through assuming more responsibility than you should. Friction could arise through others feeling that you were interfering with their rights and privileges, even though you are only trying to help.

Origin of the name Melissa
The name Melissa is derived from Greek mythology.  Melissa was a nymph that cared for the infant Zeus while he was being hidden from his father, the king of the gods.  Melissa plundered bee hives in order to feed honey to Zeus, who developed a permanent sweet tooth. When Melissa's role in protecting Zeus was discovered, she was turned into some lowly species of insect. Zeus later took pity on her and turned her into a honeybee, which is forever involved with making honey.

Anyway...

Thanks for keeping this thread alive and well! It does my heart good! ;D Hope you're all having a great weekend! Life is GRAND!!

Anna is a Latin form of the Hebrew name Hannah (Hebrew: חַנָּה or Channah, meaning "favor" or "grace."
