Bringing this up, because with the finale and spoilers (don't worry, not detailing) I think the unappreciation thread is going to have a lot of traffic. I still think Christopher gets a bad rap. No, he wasn't responsible, which is one reason why Lorelai didn't marry him. But, I think the progress he has made doesn't get credited. He didn't really have a job (or whatever project he was in was failing) and couldn't afford to buy Rory a gift. Yet, the next time he sees her, he has been working a steady job. A steady job he still continues to work at, although he really doesn't need to. He came back to escort Rory to her debutante ball. He goes to Rory's school events. He spent his money that he inherited on his daughters, and bought a few things for himself, but he doesn't appear to be lavishly spending on himself -and he's still working a steady job. He stays in contact with Rory, and has since season 2 (not to mention those weekly phone calls Lorelai mentioned way back in Rory's Birthday Parties). Since the show has started, i don't recall a time when they asked Christopher to come and he didn't. Also, time when he came without being asked when Rory was in the car accident.
I also can't blame Christopher for his actions with Sherry. I think it was foolish, since staying together for the sake of the children doesn't work if the parents are unhappy, but it certainly wasn't done to hurt either Lorelai or Rory, and the show itself advocated that he was doing the "right thing" Plus, as sympathetic as I am to Lorelai, in this situation she was the other woman in the middle of a relationship between Christopher and Sherry.
