I agree it was unfair to blame Lorelai for Rory. I mean, it never occured to him that Rory might not be upset herself?
As for season 5, it seems like that was the season for being either out of character or exaggerated. Emily can be manipulative, but they had her acting like a cartoon character a lot of the time during that season. And, Christopher listening to Emily was bad enough, but actually letting Lorelai know that Emily pushed him was beyond stupid. I mean, this is the same Lorelai he grew up with. Who must have made her feelings about Emily meddling abundantly clear. It really didn't make sense.
I kind of wish they'd let Christopher really succeed at something. They keep pushing him back. He starts to develop a relationship with Rory and something goes wrong. Either he messes things up, or even if it's going okay, when DS makes an appearance on the show, there's usually a line about how he hasn't contacted her for months. Even if the actor isn't there, they could still be exchanging phone calls. He goes back to Sherry so he can be a father to Gigi. So, let him be one. But, it's later revealed that he wasn't around much, and when Sherry leaves, Gigi is practically a stranger to him. So, he becomes a single parent, and then what? He's still not really being shown as all that active in her life. And, with the windfall of money in his lap, he doesn't get the chance to show that he's really become a successful businessman. And, to top it all off, he got a terrible haircut! Lorelai raised a basically pretty good kid, managed to finish school, was manager of an inn, than owner of another. There are still areas that need work, that go two steps forward, one step back. But, the areas I've mentioned are ones that progressed forward. Sure, Christopher started getting his life together later, but I'd like to see some areas where there's real progress.
