ORG Forum Guidelines and Announcements
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:21:59 pm »
Welcome to the Official GilmoreGirls.org Forum (otherwise known as the ORG Forum)! The staff of GilmoreGirls.org hopes the Forum will provide many fun times for all Gilmore Girls fans. However, there are some basic rules that we ask all users to follow.

When using the forum, please do not post material that:

· contains vulgar, abusive, racist or hateful language, slurs, photographs or illustrations in poor taste, inflammatory attacks of a personal, racial or religious nature.

· flames any individual or entity (e.g., sends repeated messages related to another user and/or makes derogatory or offensive comments about another individual), or repeats prior posting of the same message under multiple threads or subjects.

· impersonates any other person or entity, whether actual or fictitious, including impersonating a cast/character/crew member of Gilmore Girls or staff member of GilmoreGirls.org. You further agree not to use an inappropriate member name of any kind.

· is defamatory, threatening, fraudulent, violates the privacy rights of any third party, is unreasonably harmful or offensive to any individual or community.

· disrupts, interferes with, or otherwise harms or violates the security of GilmoreGirls.org, or any services, system resources, accounts, passwords, servers or networks connected to or accessible through GilmoreGirls.org or affiliated or linked sites.

· contains spoiler information about upcoming episodes, upcoming plotlines, or upcoming developments in the show of any kind, unless it is placed in the designated "Spoilers" category.

Additionally, the following tips will ensure that the ORG Forum remains an awesometastic place for all its members and Gilmore enthusiasts.

· no star posting (aka making short, simple posts for the sole purpose of increasing one's post count)

· no double posting (when you've made a post with no replies, use the edit button to add to your post instead of creating a new post as a response; however, if no response has been made within a week's time and you have something useful to add to the thread a double post is allowed to 'bump' the thread.)

· no duplicate threads (before starting a new topic make sure there isn't a similar one already in place)

· graphical signatures have a maximum of 600x200 pixels (any extra signature characters can be used for shoutouts and the whatnot)

· be nice! (good things happen to good people)

If a user violates or repeatedly violates any of the above terms, GilmoreGirls.org reserves the right to revoke registration privileges. GilmoreGirls.org also reserves the right to delete and modify posts as we see fit.

By reading, posting, or participating in the GilmoreGirls.org Official Forum, you agree to release GilmoreGirls.org or anyone else from any liability. It is also important to know that many of the views expressed in the forum do not necessarily represent the views of GilmoreGirls.org; comments all belong to their respective posters. GilmoreGirls.org reserves the right to amend these guidelines at any time, with or without notice.

Please note that the Fun and Games board is temporarily offline while I perform maintenance.  It should be back online in the next couple of hours.

The ORG Forum is currently experiencing some server outages and slowness.  I'm looking into the problem and will keep everyone updated.

Thank you.

Earlier today, the ORG Forum experienced about 2 hours of downtime/extreme slowness due to some server configuration errors.  However, those issues appear to be fixed and all is well.  If anyone runs into further problems, please let me know.

Thank you.

As many GilmoreGirls.org visitors noticed, the site was down for a little over a day and just came back online about 25 minutes ago.  The server that GilmoreGirls.org is hosted on had a minor hiccup and needed a little repair.  Special thanks to my friends Matt and Chris for their efforts in getting everything back online.

Thank you to everyone for their concerned e-mails and well wishes.  :hearts: :star:

Admit it!  You were scared!  I was scared, for sure.  GilmoreGirls.org has been down for about the last 7 hours due to a memory leak problem, but ::knock on wood:: things are hopefully back on track.  (However, feel free to send the site all the good vibes you want!)

Special thanks to Chris and Angelo for helping get us back online!   :hearts: :star: :celebrate:  Thank you.

Poor little server ... it runs out of memory, has Alzheimer's and the whatnot. :(

As many, many ORG Forum members noticed, GilmoreGirls.org has been offline for about the last 15.5 hours.  The hosting facility that is home to the GilmoreGirls.org server had a massive power outage early this morning (even the building's backup generators failed).  As a result, it's taken quite a while to get things back up and running ... but we've made it!  ::knock on wood::  There will probably be a few bumps and bruises as a result, but we'll live.  ;)

Special thanks to my friends Chris, Matt, and Angelo for helping get the site back online.

Earlier today the hard drive in GilmoreGirls.org's server began to fail.  The key being that the hard drive began to fail (vs. actually biting the big one and dying).  I'm happy to report that GilmoreGirls.org is now hosted on an entirely different (and brand new) server with much better specs (6 gig 10,000 rpm hard drive, dual xeon 2.8 ghz, 2gb ram).  That's the good news.

The bad news is, and you've probably noticed, that we lost about a week's worth of posts/data.  I backup the ORG Forum once per week and it just so happens the last time I did was on August 8th (tonight would have been the next scheduled backup).  Losing a week of information ... sucks.  It really does.

But I'm choosing to be optimistic!  ORG Forum members who have been around long enough can recall the first time we lost the Forum (and years of posts) to hackers.  Now that was terrible.  One week of lost posts compared to years of lost posts doesn't seem that bad, right?

Thank you to everyone for hanging in there.  Now go post double-time to make up for last week!   :hearts:

Special, special thanks to my friend Chris for helping get everything back online.

If you would like to chat about the hard drive failure or have any questions, please visit the Heidi's Soapbox thread.   :cellphone:

GilmoreGirls.org and the ORG Forum were offline for about 14 hours today (from 6:00am to 8:00pm Pacific).  A script ran out of memory and because the new server isn't yet on a remote rebooter it didn't automatically come back online.  To make sure this doesn't happen again Chris is going to see about setting up a script that automatically kills anything that's using too much memory.

Questions or comments can be posted on the Heidi's Soapbox thread.

Don't be afraid, friends!

The Forum is now upgraded and improved.  Yes, it looks like it was hit with an ugly stick, but only in the short-term.  I will fix everything ASAP.

More information coming shortly.  Good times ahead!
