I loved this episode... I have watched a lot of season 4 and 5 stuff, but its so nice to actually start at the beginning, and go back watching all the episodes... Just some of the mannerisms between Lorelai and Rory remind me so much of me and my daughters. Oh and Lorelai and her mom? Totally me and my mom! LOL

This is the best episode written to date, because you learn so much about Loralie's relationship with her mother... In following seasons you see them argue, laugh and cry.. but unless you've seen this episode none of the others are worth watching

I have to agree with you on that... But if you come in later in the season you dont realize you need to watch it until you do watch it,if that makes any sense... I actually started watching episodes about season 4 in the beginning and its only like 6 months later that i watched this episode.

Yeah, it was Mick, I like Kirk better personally! I wonder why they changed it. But yeah, youre right. Just think, "mick" or "kirk" the show would be totally different without him.

I first got hooked on Gilmore Girls earlier this year. I've purchased and watched, Season 1 through 3. Can't wait for Luke and Lorelai to get together (beside the point). But just wanted to mention that it's funny abou them changing "Mick" to "Kirk". I remember when I watched the next few episodes in Season 1, I kept thinking are these all the same people? Something was off, but I couldn't think what it was. I should have just gone back and watched the pilot again, but I didn't. Now I know what's different! Poor Mick/Kirk no wonder he's such a mess; he has an identity crisis!

OK I just watched the pilot again and I realized that the actress who plays Liz's friend Carrie also plays Rory's teacher in the pilot episode.

I was wondering were Lane's Dad is? In the pilot she is talking about 'her parents' but I've never seen her Dad.

It was Mick, I wonder what made them change it to Kirk.. Maybe because it matches with "jerk"? Because that's what Miss Patty says, at the wake for Cinnamon, after she had met him for the first time in the supermarket, where she was sampling fruits: (The grocery store employee from earlier approaches Miss Patty.) EMPLOYEE: Excuse me, ma'am? MISS PATTY: Well if it isn't Kirk the jerk.EMPLOYEE: I want to apologize for what happened at the store yesterday. MISS PATTY: I'm listening. EMPLOYEE: I wasn't aware that you were THE Miss Patty. The owner tells me that you're one of our best customers and you can put anything into that mouth that you want to. Those were his words. I could have paraphrased them. MISS PATTY: Stop sweating. And close your pores, Kirky, I always forgive. EMPLOYEE: Thank you. MISS PATTY: Once. Just a guess...

I love this episode...I mean, it brings me back centered to everything. I loved the obvious attraction between Lorelai/Luke and it just keeps growing. But I was showing this to my friend, who had never watched, and she goes "They're [Luke and Lorelai] dating." I'm like "No, wait about 80+ episodes and then they do."
Things were so different, but it's fun to watch for the old quirks of Gilmore Girls. The only thing is, well, Rory's white sweater bothers me so much! It's way too big.
That 'old' Dean was creepy, I'm glad we got Jared Padalecki.

I love this episode it starts with Lorelai asking for coffee what could be more gilmore?!Haha, I just did a little research about the un-aired pilot.. Actor Nathan Wetherington was originally cast to play the part of Dean. However, Amy Sherman-Pallidino thought he had a gangster look to him, so she picked Jared Padelecki. He was creepy. very interesting! he's weird looking. Jared is so much better! haha it's funny to imagine someone else playing dean it would have been wierd! He does look kinda creepy can you imagine Rory kissing him?! This episode is definitly one of my favourites some classic moments!

Mm... : Yeah i've never really figured out what happened there, very confusing - Throughout the first series Lane refers to her "parents" and on one occassion her "Mom and Dad" but we were never introduced to her father....does anyone have a "heads up" regading Lane's dad?
