I STILL hate Jess and Rory together here!  All there is to this stupid relationship is them making out!  She should so be with Dean!

I think that was a big factor in the Jess/Rory relationship. Plus, I think it was a big factor as o why the Dean/Rory relationship split-up. Rory and Dean were a very cutesy couple and he was a good first, highschool boyfriend. But there was no real spark there at all. The minute these two got together it was fizzle instead of sizzle (lol fo shizzle my nizzle! I just turned white-girl rapper!) Dean could never really keep Rory's interest. Don't forget that Jess wasn't the first guy to take her fancy whilst she was still with Dean. Tristan got a kiss too. (Yes, they were broken up, but still). And I know alot of people have said that 'Jess broke the realtionship up" but if a relationship is strong and happy then no outsider can split two people up. The fact is, Rory had moved well and truly passed Dean.
Now, she and Jess had alot of sexual chemistry and were constantly all over each other because they had to be. But dont forget that they also shared a love for books and reading and had similar tastes in music and art and could sit around and talk. In an earlier episode before they got together, there was a scene where Paris, Jess and Rory were all sittin around a table discussing favourite authors and poets. Could you imagine Dean fitting in to that kind of conversaton?
Rory and Jess were a more grown-up, intelligent, sexual, intimate couple. Dean and Rory (at that time) were just cutesy and it was a bit boring after about a day.

I'm not a big fan of Jess & Rory's relationship, but I do agree with what you wrote.  Dean was a really great first boyfriend, and it's a shame that he got his heart broken.  But, I do think he just didn't challenge Rory intellectually and once she saw that Jess could challenge her and keep her on her toes, she was intrigued.

I love when Gran came to visit from London and Emily went mental.. it's funny to see that she's the only person to throw Emily Gilmore off-kilter.  And I do like how this made Emily and Lorelai bond a little bit.

I so agree. Dean was a good first boyfriend..But ppl break up..relationships end. Thats how it has to go,and Dean couldn't exept that.So he weased his way back in(addmitted to it,even to Jess!) and hoped he could get back with Rory. That was inmature. If he realy belived they we're meant to be,then he should have waited till she believed him,not that. Jess and Rory we're more then Kisses. They cutely argued and agreed about books,movies,and food. Remeber that scene in...Happy Birthday Baby(i think) when Rory and Jess and Lane are outside the video store,and Rory and Jess are arguing about Thia and Almost Famouse,lane goes "aww,your like an old married couple" and then he says "22.8 miles" that shows you they aren't just a intamite realationship,they have meaning.

I surprise myself how I end up feeling sorry for Emily every time Trix visits. But still,somewhere deep down, it's nice seeing Emily helpless. In a non-weirdo sort of way, I mean.
I think Dean was kind of mean in this episode. Or was it the one before..anyway, I don't really like post-break up Dean

oh my gosh I just got the bit where Lorelai says she'll yell timber if Emily faints because on tuesday I was watching Breakfast at Tiffany's and just when tha twoman was about to faint Audrey Hepburn (Holly) yelled Timber. Or is that not a direct reference of something that people generally do anyway yeah I got quite excited when I was watching breakfast at Tiffany's because I'd never seen it before and that suprised me!!

I really enjoyed this episode for several reasons.

The scene where Trix and the Gilmores arrive at lorelai's house is hilarious-with trix walking around looking at everything and everyone else crowded in behind her, following her to see what she would do or say...that made me laugh pretty hard.

i also enjoyed the scene where lorelai was explaining to emily that she needed to decide to respond differently to trix when she was insulting or blaming her. when lorelai explained that she found amusement in her mother's disapproval, i thought it was interesting to hear emily's reaction, because she didn't seem very surprised at all. but it's good to see that emily did take lorelai's advice to heart when she interrupted trix's dinner schedule by proclaiming "I'm not done!" when trix ordered the next course be brought out. the look on her face as she cut that TINY piece of green bean, put it in her mouth, and chewed it at approximately one chew per every five seconds was HILARIOUS. lorelai later tells rory that she made six green beans last an hour and a half, or something like that. That'll do, pig. That'll do.

About Dean; I don't think it intirely fair what he's doing, but Jess didn't handle it well either.

and I liked the part at the beginning about the band outfits.

Oh man... poor Emily.  Gran is moving back to Hartford and Emily looked like she crapped her pants.  I loved what Lorelai said to her.

She says he's just a friend, she says he's just a friend.

Poor Jess, Clara definitely annoyed him and Dean is trying to play mind games with him. 

Paris is in love!!!!  Aw!!!  Francie tries to take control but just got into some trouble with Rory.  Well, we all know what's going to happen next and... it becomes a sad moment

For me this episode is mostly about the Gilmore women and how they relate to each other.  Trix all the way down to Rory and most importantly the small amount of bonding that occurred between Emily and Lorelai.  It always amazes me how matter of factly Lorelai is able to explain her coping mechanism to Emily as well as how easily Emily accepts it.  She scoffed a little bit at Lorelai’s statement that she even takes a little pleasure out of Emily’s displeasure but it didn’t turn into an issue.  Emily channeled her inner Lorelai very well at dinner with Trix.  It also strikes me that despite Lorelai enjoying watching Emily squirm she is supportive which relates to the previous episode when Emily sort of accepted Lorelai’s disappointment at finding out Rory went ahead and applied at Yale.  She actually knew when to leave well enough alone for a change.  Sookie and Lorelai’s quick exchange in the kitchen about over the top perfection for the dinner with Trix matched Emily’s usual preparedness for the woman. 

Rory is at a point where she is literally having her cake (pie) and eating it too.  She’s learned well from Lorelai that if she doesn’t want to hear her mother’s comments about her relationships she should just leave her out of the loop.  I think she demonstrated a little bit of this when she didn’t care to discuss how she felt about Dean dropping off her things.  Of course Lorelai and Rory are different and Rory does seem to fill her in on everything at the end of the episode but I can’t ignore that little lesson she seems to understand a little more each season.  Rory and Emily both find a way to deal with their respective arch enemies head on.  Both Emily and Rory had tried the passive approach of smoothing things over and going with the flow.  Both also seem to have had enough of that tactic and took the aggressive stance for a change.  A little of Lorelai in all of them.   

I see a similarity in Francie and Dean in that they are being rather sneaky in this episode.  Scheming behind the scenes about staging their respective coups.   It’s nothing new for Francie but is a new, distasteful, side of Dean.  At the same time it’s hard to blame him for wanting to get a little revenge for all of the poking and prodding Jess was responsible for.

It was only two episodes ago that Dean closed the window on Rory's apology and said he might someday forgive her, but that day came mighty soon, suspiciously soon. He seems sincere at the pie shop, but it's the motivation of revenge that comes through strongest when he confronts Jess. How much does he really want Rory back and how much is simply to turn the tables on Jess? More than that, why does he want Rory back, aside from the revenge factor? Is this the typical Gilmore mystique, the way he's craving her again? Is she Rory the angel with all the blame thrown on Jess? 
 
I agree with Lauren/205 about Lorelai's ability to avoid the low road and support Emily when Gran is on the attack. That's how Lorelai always is when the chips are down for either of her parents, she comes to their side. When Emily showed sympathy for Lorelai at Thanksgiving it was more of an exception from her side, a continuation of her dissatisfaction with Richard's handling of the Yale visit. But Emily is certainly capable of bonding with Lorelai even when the chips are not down, such as her attempt when they visited the spa. While there are obvious parallels between Gran's treatment of Emily and Emily's treatment of Lorelai, Gran is much more severe towards Emily. With Gran, it's complete hostility towards Emily, not a single word that is anything less. It sounds absurd when Emily calls Gran "mom," but perhaps she's stretching for some bit of cordiality. And it always annoys me when Richard doesn't say a word in defense of his wife. The focus here is on the Gilmore women and it's easy to overlook Richard seemingly oblivious to Emily's distress. Can't he politely ask his own mother in private to ease up?

Rory pheromones can be a powerful thing.  I’m not sure of the reasoning behind Dean being sincere with Rory.  Maybe he’s stuck at stage two: anger.  I’m tempted to say that for now revenge on Jess is the main motivation due to their two confrontations even though the nostalgia factor is very much present for both Rory and Dean. 

I also wonder about Richard standing up for Emily when it comes to Trix.  When we later find out about the letter she wrote to him on his wedding night it’s hard to imagine that he wouldn’t have responded.  Unless going through with marrying Emily was a response and he figured it was all that was necessary.  To make matters worse he laughs off Trix’s nasty comments towards Emily.  Perhaps that’s his coping mechanism.
