i personally don't like the awkwardness between rory and jess and between rory and lindsay and between dave and yung-chui.
i think that jess could have taken 2 seconds off work to call rory and say he had to work another shift and i think rory could have called jess or asked him why he didn't call.
i really don't like lindsay and i think that the character of rory would really be that upset about it because she has moved on she has jess maybe she thought she was losing jess and then was in secure about lindsay and i suppose you never really stop loving a person.
i really miss dave and lane cos he was really sweet and i suppose maybe people's second loves are just so much better for example rory's second love was jess (just joking except for the part about jess cos i love him!)
i liked the way dave ran off too see lane.
i think rory shouldn't have asked jess to erase his answering machine i think jess should have listened to the message cos as much as i love jess i think he needed to know how rory was feeling and then if she was more able to express her feelings maybe he would be to!

I don't quite understand why Rory lost her ability to talk with Jess. Before they were together she could say whatever she wanted to him but afterwards she shut-down and stopped expressing her feelings to him. Yes, he should've called but when he didn't why didn't she just call him? He was being complacent and she was playing games. It was all a bit silly, really.
No matter how much you've moved past someone and how happy you are in your crrent situation, it is rarely easy to see someone you loved, happy with someone else. Being that Rory was young and it really hadn't been a long time since they split, it was always going to be uncomfortable.

In rory's attemtp to "not be that girl" she actually became that girl. By saying 'forget him' and going to the hockey game alone she was allowing herself to be 'that girl', even though she thought she wasn't. Not being 'that girl' meant calling him up, asking what was going on and telling him why she was angry at him. It seems cowardly to leave a message on an answering machine. Why can't she just tell him?

i know what you mean about her becoming that girl she should have just rung him it really bugs me when girls do that!! I would have rung him!!
I thought that him bringing the ear plugs was his way of saying sorry because he's not very good at saying sorry because nobody really ever says it to him he uses actions instead of words so he brought her ear plugs!
I think that Dean was really unfair to Lindsay in the later episodes because even though she isn't particularly nice she is still a human being and Dean dragged her along into a relationship and then into a marriage knowing full well that he was still hung up on Rory.

You're so right! Jess does express his emotions with actions. I think that is a HUGE part of his character. It ends up becoming a big factor in the break-up of Rory and Jess though. After the fight at the party, Rory is just wanting him to talk so she can understand what is happening and she isn't reading him very well. He was obviously uncomfortable at the party and going through something, but instead of taking him out of that situation and figuring it out, she makes him stay and it leads to ....well...you know! lol
He needed to talk more and she needed to read him better. Plus, one of them needed to start teh conversation afterwards to get things going on the fixing process. But both of them chickened out of that.

I just re-watched this episode today on my DVD's and it reminded me why I would get SO MAD while Jess and Rory were dating. Yes, I love Jess he was probably my favorite boyfriend that Rory had! There were times however when I just wanted to scream at him!! I also blame Rory though on why their realationship did not work. If she was really that upset about him not calling her....why did she just not call him?? Oh, and I agree with whoever said that when Rory was trying not to be " that girl" she just became more of " that girl" and that probably was why she was acting so strange at the end of the episode. I dont know. Just after re-watching this episode it got me thinking that maybe if Rory and Jess had just always talked to each other more and tried to understand each other more...their realationship would have been better and lasted longer.

hey at the beggining of the episode, rory and lorelai are walking by the TPed highschool and lorelai says something but it was silenced on ABC Family. Do you remember that? Does anyone know what she said that was so bad that it couldnt be on television??

i think rory needs to just be herself here.
  when jess pulled the whole chalk-outline-in-front-of-doose's stunt, then rory saw him while she was waiting outside for dean to pick up his paycheck, she completely blessed him out about being ungrateful for all luke does for him and she rants about the town meeting where everyone attacked luke about jess being a menace to society and all that jazz. then she gets a second wind and lets him have it all over again. where is THAT rory when SHE'S being treated unfairly? does she only stand up for others she cares about and not for herself? if that's the case, she's got to learn that she deserves the same amount of respect luke did in his situation. jess should have had the presence of mind to call rory and explain his absence/tardiness, but rory should not be at his beck and call whenever it is convenient. especially considering her attitude at the beginning of season one's episode "that damn donna reed." she doesn't need to sit around and keep to herself and jump at the phone as soon as he calls and act as though she wasn't ill with the fact that he didn't call in a more timely manner. this gives jess the impression that he can repeat this behavior without consequence, which will only frustrate rory more. then, the frustration builds up and eventually erupts into an unnecessarily huge argument later on down the road. it's not worth all that. it's better to have a small argument now and help jess [and herself] learn this lesson than to let it build up into something huge. i've learned that the hard way. =]

Rory's previous experience was with nice-guy Dean, who had the habit of calling her multiple times per day. But now she is with the bad-boy and Jess thinks he is above such gestures as taking a minute and calling his gal. I thought the tough spot for Rory was struggling between her emotions. I mean, she can't help liking the guy, and even if she goes out and does something else he will be on her mind. It wasn't much consolation when Jess had the tickets and didn't acknowledge his behavior. As someone pointed out already, i wish Jess had listened to Rory's phone message. That phone message wasn't about Rory behaving as some desperate gal; it was about Jess being a jerk. Meanwhile, Dave is running crosstown for a quick minute with Lane. What a contrast between Jess and Dave! For that matter, Rory might have been missing dependable Dean, especially seeing that he's moved on with Lindsay.

I'm thinking it's both their faults. I'm SLIGHTLY more on Jess' side because Rory compares Jess to Dean. If you want Dean back, then go get him. Otherwise, don't compare the two. They are nothing alike. Also it seems like she is just down-talking Jess throughout this whole episode to her mom. Which disappointed me because I would love for Lorelai to like Jess, like she liked Dean. If they got past that wall, I think they'd all get along really well. Rory and Jess both came from completely different relationships. Rory was in one where the guy calls a million times a day. That's all she knew. Jess was in a "relationship" with Shane where all they do is make out, no thought goes into the plans, no need to care enough to call. But now Rory should have realized that not every boyfriend is that perfect, she's gotta try picking up the phone too. And Jess needed to realize that Rory is a hell of a lot more special than Shane. They both needed to get it together. Just like bingbong and all the others who've been for Jess actually listening to the message - I couldn't agree more!

Emily was hilarious in this episode, the look on everyone's face when she told them about trixie kissing a man was great. i was thrilled emily finally got one up on her. Thought Dave was cute in this one when he ran all the way to the hockey game to see Lane for two seconds. So sweet! Was intersting to see Rory's reaction to Dean and Lyndsey.

Wow... Trix kisses a man in a purple track suit.  Emily sees it and rats Trix out.

Wow... the conversation Lorelai and Richard had was hilarious.

Dean's got a new girlfriend and she kinda looks like Mandy Moore. 

OK, as much as everyone likes Jess.  He isn't a typical boyfriend and I don't think he's used to the boyfriend role.  It's new to him and he did piss off Rory for a while.  Yet, he made up with Distiller tickets but he still needs work to do.
