To me, the April storyline had too much "soap opera" dumb-osity (i invented a word) for such a quality show. Drama! Luke suddenly has a daughter! Phooey, sez i.

But it was not useless. It served two purposes: To drive a wedge between Luke & Lorelai and to drive the viewers crazy.

I think they thought, in true George Clooney E.R sty;e 'we're losing 'em!!', and that the April story line would draw in viewers. Apparently they didn't get the memo that said fans of Gilmore Girls are not really big soap opera fans. They really lost me with the April thing, and a lot of others too.

The one good thing about April's existence is that it brought out a good side of Luke, in the way he bonded with her. Not that it stopped all his usual lovable ranting, but it did bring out a softer side in him, similar to the way he treated Rory. But this positive was negated by the way he separated Lorelai from Apil. I don't think he deliberately tried to hurt Lorelai, but i think he got so caught up with April that he neglected her. All of which was made even worse when Lorelai would not say anything about it. Even if April had to be invented by ASP, her appearance did not have to create so many problems. They could have acted as a team in dealing with the situation. But from the moment Luke did not bother to tell Lorelai that he just happens to have a daughter, it was a disaster in the making, a "jumping the shark" moment (i like that phrase and for the record i would never go near a shark, except when i eat thresher shark, which is yummy when grilled).

I agree, you would not expect Luke to be careless enough to father a child that way. I associate it with Chris, who did it twice, with Rory and Gigi. That made the whole thing seem even sillier. However, we can calculate that it happened when Luke was in his early-to-mid 20s and maybe he would have been a little looser in his behavior, it's possible. The Luke on the show would not do it, but maybe Young Man Luke could have. Maybe. Still, it doesn't change the bottom line, which is the silly timing of when April was "discovered" or Luke's poor handling of the situation.

Maybe, but Luke's lived in that town his whole life, and everyone says that he's always been the same. Plus, now correct me f I'm wrong, as I'm a little rusty, but wouldn't the time he'd been with Anna, have coordinated with the time he was with Rachel? Cuz he was with her for ages.

I see your point that Luke was always "the same", but i'm only saying it's possible because in his early adulthood he might have been more prone to being careless. That's as far as i'm taking it and i still put it down as a "jumping the shark" moment, no question about the shark! 

I'm fuzzy on the time-line with Rachel and Anna. If Luke was somewhere in his late '30s when April appeared, and April was 14 i think, that puts Luke during his Anna phase at around age 23-24. I never had the impression they were a serious long-term couple. But when Sookie was telling Lorelai about Rachel she said they were together very early on when Lorelai was in Star's Hollow, because Sookie commented that Lorelai was busy trying to survive with little Rory and would not have been aware of their relationship. Luke & Lorelai are about the same age, so it would have meant that Luke was with Rachel in his late teens to early twenties, before Anna. I suppose it is possible he was with Rachel both before and after Anna; Luke's issue with Rachel was that she had a tendency to take off at a moment's notice, so maybe they were together as a couple for different periods. And in between one of those times when Rachel was out of the picture, rather than hibernate in his room, Luke had a time with Anna. 
Oy with the time-line already! I'm getting dizzy. Too dizzy to jump a shark.    It is all very fuzzy and i think that's because ASP did not even consider the April story line until long after she had created the Rachel story line.

Yeah, I think it's fallen into the black hole of TV land, along with Rory's journalist job, half of the original characters (did Gypsy die and no one told me?), Rory's original character, snd several other various things that were forgotten about in the later seasons.

One thing I would definitly change about GG is the whole Jason storyline. I thought that was really dumb and uninteresting. Also, I would of kept Sookie clumsy throughout the entire show cause it was funny and cute lol.

the only thing about the show i really hate is that they had Jess leave. I mean it´s good that he leaves and all because that also totally fits to the character but they could have him come.
I really like him he´s sort of a bit like me... anyhow. I am not nuts about the actor. Only the character he is incredibly good looking and all 
and I also like  him but it´s mainly the character i am nuts about. And by the way, there is this song that totall fits Jess, called the world at large by modest mouse from the album good news for people who love bad news, listen to it sometimes, it is my favourite song.

I think it's good that he leaves, but not because it fits him, but because the experience changed him.

I do hate that Rory hurt him in The Real Paul Anka. I would change that. That's probably the one thing.-even though this is impossible. There is a bunch of things I would change about Luke and Lorelai. And since I am hoping for a GG movie, the thing I would most like to happen is Jess and Rory meeting each other/getting back together. + a Java Junkie wedding, but do I even have to say that haha.

well i vote for better wordrobe in seasons 1-4. it was just so unrealistic that she bcame a fashionista in the 5th season.
