1  Gilmore Girls / Show and Cast Member News / Re: Steve Carell and Lauren Graham:Ask 'Evan Almighty' Stars a Question - 04.06. on: June 08, 2007, 02:54:26 pm
These "interviews"-- Actually, they're more like informal chats, where the stars answer fan questions. The video will be posted on There's no RSS feed. AOL seems is inconsistent with their support of RSS. But I monitor this page, and I'll post the video on (which does support RSS), and send an email to the gilmoreim-info list. I'll try to remember also to post it here as well.

One thing Gilmore Girls did to me is to turn me into a fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino's work. After all, she dreamed up GG, brought it to life, and turned it into a world-wide sensation. Literally: I talk with GG fans from around the world. I'm really looking forward to her new show, The Return of Jezebel James. So much so that I've been filling up my NetFlix queue with Parker Posey movies and episodes of Six Feet Under (with Lauren Ambrose). I even started a site dedicated to Amy Sherman-Palladino, Jezebel James, and its cast:

Can anyone tell me what David Letterman asked  Alexis and what she said?

I posted the video on my website:

I can confirm that it is one of the two actual Jeeps used in the show.  It was purchased by a Warner Bros. tour guide.
Okay, so one of the two Jeeps was bought by a WB tour guide.  That doesn't mean that this one is *it.*  Are you confirming that the listing is legit, too?

I don't doubt you, Heidi, because I know you've been in the GG insider news for a long time and have inside connections. Still, I was wondering this myself. I'd like to know how you know this auction is on the level, not just that you believe it's on the level. (I myself believe prima facie that it's legit, simply because the seller has little to gain by not being legit, and much to lose.)

Heidi, can you expand on this any?

BTW, based on the description... the Kelley Blue Book values on a Jeep of that vintage... [plus all the other stuff]

That means the premium being paid is about $20K.  A person could save that much money by buying a 2000 Jeep Wrangler and just customizing it him/herself.

Waaaaaaay overpriced...
My prediction is that in about 9 days, the auction will close at way more than the minimum bid. And remember that whoever gets the Jeep not only will plop down $50K (or so) but also will (hopefully) make special arrangements to garage the Jeep and to maintain it in its current state.

The market puts such a high premium on an item like this not because it's a tricked out Jeep. Anyone can make a tricked out Jeep. I could make a tricked out Jeep! If it were just a customized Jeep, it would only be worth a fraction of what it will sell for. But this is a piece of television history. And someone is going to buy it and then brag to all his friends that he has the Jeep that Lorelai drove on Gilmore Girls. And his friends will go "Woww!" And that will make it worth the $40K or $50K or $100K or whatever he has to spend on it.

Hi, amanda elise. Thanks for looking into this. I too am looking into it (though I forgot to mention that in my original posting). I've sent David Laurell an email, asking him to confirm or deny.

Also, there is very little risk at this stage. And it still makes a great story, even if it's not legitimate. If this is not a legitimate offer, the seller has very little to gain, and much to lose. Still, it's good to be suspicious, especially if you are considering bidding. Remember that the final price is frequently much higher than the minimum bid. (The minimum bid is there just to suck you in.) And the buyer is likely to take additional steps to minimize his risk.

6  Gilmore Girls / Show and Cast Member News / Lorelai's Jeep at Auction on: May 24, 2007, 11:38:59 am

Yes, Lorelai's actual Jeep is being offered on eBay. This is one of the actual jeeps used in the filming of Gilmore Girls.

The 2000 Jeep Wrangler, customized for Lorelai, is part-owned by David Laurell. And he realizes the its significance.

"Lorelai's Jeep is an iconic piece of television history associated with a show that will live on for time eternal as a milestone in American pop culture," said Laurell. "For Gilmore fans this vehicle is one of the most recognizable in television history. It ranks right at the top along with the Batmobile and the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazard. Every television show or film has that one item that stands alone as being immediately recognizable from the production. When it comes to Gilmore Girls that one thing is Lorelai's Jeep."

Except that there were numerous Batmobiles and hundreds of General Lees manufactured. But there were only two Jeeps ever used during Gilmore Girls seven-year run. According to Laurell, "The Jeep we are making available was used from the first episode right on through till the final episode."

The eBay auction will continue until June 2 at 8:17:39 PM PDT, a little over 9 days from now. And plans to follow the bidding process.

The auction winner will also receive a number of bonuses:

  • A Certificate of Authenticity,
  • An album of full-color photos of the Jeep in the Stars Hallow town square, at Lorelai's house, and in other locations on the WB lot,
  • A five-hour tour of the Warner Brothers Studios where Gilmore Girls was filmed.
  • Lunch in the studio's dining room, where many of the show's cast members ate.
  • A goody bag full of even more Gilmore Girls memorabilia, including the actual prop Connecticut licence plates and Yale licence plate frame that were actually used on the show.
It's Thursday, May 24, 2007. Nine days and counting...

OMG Tim - i LOVE Cambridge... So, Tim = what direction are you from Harvard Yard?
Hi, Zeddie. Smiley I'm actually not in Cambridge. I'm in Waltham, which is a city west of Boston. But I go computer shopping at the Microcenter in Cambridge, which is... North, south, east, or west, or some combination thereof, from Harvard Yard. I always get lost when I try to find my way around Cambridge. Yeah, I've lived in the area for more than 20 years, and I still get lost in Cambridge. Smiley

(So, anyone else, if you're not familiar with the area, Cambridge is like that. Frankly, I don't know how Lorelai found her way in and out without going in circles for an hour first.)

For me, it would be a road trip from Harvard, because I live, like, 20 minutes away from Harvard University. Smiley Still, that would be a vacation I'd have to plan. Might be fun. I should ask the wife.

9  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re: What other TV shows do GG fans watch? on: May 19, 2007, 08:33:19 pm
I was just watching Scrubs on the Comedy Channel (Love that show!) and Turk was talking about how he enjoys his night with out Carla.  He is telling Dr. Cox that he puts on the ESPN channel, but when you actually see Turk sitting there watching, you here "and now on Gilmore Girls"!!! Next scene you see him on the phone with J.D.  and J.D. is saying "How 'bout that Lorelai??"   Cheesy
I love the reverse-Gilmoreisms in Scrubs. There are two direct references that I know of. In a different episode, they also talk about watching Gilmore Girls. I don't remember which episode, though. (I'm not as big a Scrubs fanatic as I am a GG{/i] fanaic.)

Lately, I've been piling on the helf-hour comedy reruns, to avoid thinking about the depression brought by massive change. In particular, I've been getting attached to Still Standing and According to Jim. And I've also been watching Roseanne, mostly because of its connection to Amy Sherman-Palladino. And I'm loving it. (I don't believe I'd never watched all the episodes of Roseanne before!)

So, in one episode, Roseanne was talking about the guy in front of her in the checkout line at the grocery store. She said, "Hey, look at what this guy is buying. Vodka, malomars, and a TV Guide. Iím guessing, single and staying that way."

Either that, of he's hoping to pick up Lorelai. Wink

From everything I've read, Amy has not yet revealed what they were. I hope, however, that someday she does reveal what the last 4 words were originally going to be, at least as GG trivia.

11  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re: Why does Gilmore Girls hold such a special place in your heart? on: May 13, 2007, 05:40:30 am
It's a deep story, and I love deep stories. But it works at all levels, shallow and deep. This makes the characters seem like real people, even the eccentric ones. And you get swept into their lives. It's like you're part of the story, not just watching it on TV.

12  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re: Where would you live? on: May 13, 2007, 05:37:14 am
That's interesting that so many people have picked Lorelai's house. I did too, but perhaps for a strange reason. I like the porch. I would hang a porch swing and sit out there summer evenings and yell across the yard to Babette and Morey. Smiley

13  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re: Fans over 30 on: May 13, 2007, 05:26:19 am
The show's ending has affected us all quite a lot. It's been like the death of a friend. That was even the theme of a recent blog post of mine: Farewell, My GG: Long Live the Gilmore Spirit!.

Yeah, I agree that the ending could have been more satisfying if they had begun wrapping things up earlier. But the big storylines are Rory at Yale (she graduated), Rory and Logan (they broke up--stupid), and Luke and Lorelai. This last story has been building toward a resolution over the past couple of episodes, but I had hoped it would have begun several episodes before that. It's not too much to do to get Luke & Lorelai back together within one episode, but the series finale? There's so much other stuff that's going to be happening that episode, because they're going to want to bring in every character they can for a final appearance. And the new writers still haven't gotten the squeezing-ten-stories-into-a-single-episode thing down yet.

On the other hand, Michael Ausiello said he thought the ending worked. We'll have to see. Only a couple days left to go.

I thought it's about time for me to post some pictures here. Smiley Here's one of me and my little one from a couple years ago:

And here's one with my church band:

Yeah. This episode was alright. And I agree, tully, with your comment about Lorelai at the end. But I don't think it's any mystery how she'll respond to Logan. Rory is her own woman, now. So, yeah... You have permission to ask. Still it's going to tear Lorelai up inside to let Rory consider this. And she may act out, and her actions may belie her words. Hey, maybe Lorelai is the cause of... (oops. Spoiler...)
