17  Gilmore Girls / Appreciation Threads / Re: Lorelai Gilmore / Lauren Graham Appreciation on: November 03, 2008, 01:27:36 am
I've been so obsessed with Lauren lately, I don't know where this came from all of the sudden. I've always admired her and thought she was a wonderful actor, person, and inspiration for all. But, I've been reading about her and watching some old interviews and then making graphics with her and it's just wonderful!! So, I'm just going with it! Smiley

I think I know what you mean here Mel.  While I'm not obsessed with her at the moment and I've also always had a fond appreciation for her brilliance and ability to entertain, lately I just find myself searching for things and re-watching old interviews of her.  I've come to the conclusion that, for me personally, there is just nobody out there that fills that void at the moment.  And no matter how crappy a mood I am in I can watch an interview of hers and truly giggle or laugh out loud (I still adore the singing one on Ellen about not selling her melons for a strong of beads Cheesy).  She is blessed with a wonderful ability to bring joy to others and out small tv screen is missing that in a big way at the moment.   The longer GG is gone from our screens, the more it stands out like the big white elephant that it is!!!!
I think you've said it brilliantly. I love youtube and being able to see her interviews and the other thing I love is that I can find some of my favorite scenes from Gilmore Girls on youtube and just watch that scene quick and be happy without having to pull out my DVD's and find it. I just adore her and the more and more I research about her, read and hear, I love her more. I so very much wish she were in more...but hope that she's happy with the amount of work she's doing. I went back earlier today and read some of the interviews she did at the end of Gilmore Girls and though it made me sad somewhat, I really hope she's happy! She really knows how to bring emotions out in one. But, I'm willing to experience those emotions with her and because of her. The "obsession" has died down a bit for now, but I've never really had a true obsession with regard to her, so it was a new experience, but one that I didn't mind at all. I'm still enjoying creating new graphics with her. I hope to see Flash of Genius sometime soon. But, I can feel a calm in the obsession of LG! Having said that, she'll never lose the special place she has in my heart! Awww...

Guess who s back for a short visit Smiley

it s funny, but the last 2 days i have been doing exactly what Mel and Caryn discribed Smiley Rewatching some interviews with Lauren and actually finding out that i haven t seen some of the latest interviews. I m feeling pretty much the same as Caryn Smiley i m not being obsessed with Lauren as I used to be about a year or two ago. But true, nobody there to fill that gap. Sure there are other, like the beautiful Simmone Jade MAckinnon  Smitten but it s just not the same. How could it be?! Cheesy

After watching some interviews yesterday and the day before yesterday i even made a wallie. Not my best work, because i didn t put that much time into making it, but nevertheless i like it Smiley so i share it with you Smiley and while i m already on it i also share some of my fav ones

Anna is a Latin form of the Hebrew name Hannah (Hebrew: חַנָּה or Channah, meaning "favor" or "grace."

24  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re: Reading Thread - Cause it's still sexy! on: July 21, 2008, 02:40:52 am
I think the problem will be the commitment that people can give at any particular time. Maybe instead of weekly, it could be done bi-weekly? I understand having chapters to read so we don't get ahead of where others are discussing. I'd be game for sure, pending my study schedule.

A few questions came to mind...
1) How would the book to be read be chosen?
2) Would we discuss on forum each chapter or every few chapters and then have a final discussion for the book's end?
3) Would there be discussion starter questions for the week?

i m with mel on the commitment thing. i would love to join a book club here on the org, but atm i can t make promises about reading what i am supposed to. i ve so many things to do for uni, and well, i would love to read more for pleasure, but am not sure how much i really can...

concerning mel's questions...i don t really have answers...first one is already a tricky one. maybe people have a couple of days to make suggestions and then everybody gets to vote, and the one with most votes will be it?!

i m not sure if every chapter in every book is worth discussing. my suggestions would be maybe one book a month and then we could discuss and talk about anything we want...we do need mods for every discussion though i guess. maybe this could be the person who suggested the book in the first place?

another idea for chosing a book would be, that every member gets to chose one and you d make a timetable for that so you know when it s your turn. and when it is it also your turn in moderating the discussion and maybe think about some questions to get it started.

well, those are my ideas Smiley i m open for any other suggestions though Cheesy

Yeah the Jane Austen Book club was a bit weird, it wasn't what I expect at all!!! I expected something along the lines of Becoming Jane. Not just lives all mixed up in different ways!
~C
question about the jane austen book club. i started reading it but thought i missed out on a lot because i haven t read all jane austen novels. when they talk about the different characters i didn t know what was going on? you reckon it s imortant to have read all jane austen books (or at least most of them) in order to enjoy the jane austen book club?Huh

It's a German name, I think. At least, that's what my Mum says. But she's a lying trollop. I once knew someone called Lorelai, but she was called 'Lolly' for short.
you think? hm, it doesnt sound german at all. it might be a verison of lorely or sth...it might have a nordic origin. i m pretty sure it s not german german. but maybe has sth to do with the languaeges and tribes of the past that lived in north and central europe and from which the germans descended Smiley

EDIT: tried to find out Smiley turns out kate and i are both right Smiley it comes from german, but from Old High German, which was spoken between 750 and 1050, so in the very earliy middle ages Smiley

and as far as the internet tells me it comes from the follwing two words:
lure = the ambush, lookout and lei = cliff / rock (both words are Old High German, which is why i didn t recognize them as german and kate is still right about the name lorelai coming from german Smiley
