This is pretty exciting.  I'm definitely in.  I've had small viewing parties of my own (me sitting in my room watching all the dvds and tapes i have and eating junk food), but i think it's great that we'll also have discussions.  It's gonna be fun!
2  Gilmore Girls / General Discussion / Re:'s "Where You Lead" Contest: Win Carole King CDs! on: August 01, 2007, 10:22:52 am
To me, the song Where You Lead truly captures the spirit of gilmore girls, that lasting bond of a mother and daughter, of best friends.  Though, I originally heard the song the first time I watched gilmore girls, which, unfortunately was not until the second season (though Ive since seen every episode several times), I soon after bought Carole Kings album, Tapestry and I loved the full version of the song.  I have both the Carole King and the Carole King and Louise Goffin versions and love them both.  Last summer, when I became less of a fan of gilmore girls and more of a fanatic, I listened to both versions of Where You Lead constantly.  I love the lyrics to Where You Lead (both versions) and they actually mean quite a bit to me, since I have recently gone through a big falling out with my best friend, who has been with me for what seems like forever.  About two months after we stopped talking altogether, she sent me a letter telling me that she would be leaving for private school next year.  It kind of crushed me because the majority of the time we used to spend together was at school and now there was almost no chance of us being best friends again the way we were.  We do still talk and do best friend things, but well be spending a lot less time together since she has to work all summer long in order to pay for her new school.  Though we may not talk every day, or pass notes in class, eat school lunch together every day, go to week long festivals together like we had the summer before this one, we will always, always be there for one another and nobody can ever replace that spot in my heart, the one for my best friend.  I do however, now have two best friends, though I only realized this a few years ago.  We have been best friends all my life, and a little under half of hers.  My mother has always been there for me.  We have what Lorelai and Rory have, that special mother/daughter bond.  We are definitely best friends first and mother and daughter second.  My mother still seems like a teenager herself and shes so lively and such a wonderful person and she will always be an important part of my life, an important part of who I am as a person.  She has taught me everything I know about life and how to be a good person and she still has so much more to teach me.  We have an unconventional relationship.  Im one of the few teenagers who would rather go to the mall with her mother than with a group of friends and Im not embarrassed to be seen with her.  My mom has watched gilmore girls with me and loves that were like Lorelai and Rory.  I think Where You Lead is more fitting to my relationship with my mother than with my best friend, who is more of a rory to my lane than anything.  Basically, this song means that my mother and I will always be there for one another as well as my best friend and I.  I find it especially touching, since a mother and daughter sing it.  It really means to me, that there is no bond greater than that of a mother and daughter.  Though my story isnt as touching as some, it is all my own and I hope other people appreciate this song as much as I do.
