Hello ORG Forumers,
A marketing company working on behalf of Warner Home Video recently contacted me in regards to helping promote the DVD release of Veronica Mars season three. You're probably thinking something along the lines of ... "Veronica Mars? This is a Gilmore Girls fan site." And right you are! However, both shows are built around strong, intelligent, witty, and independent lead female characters. As a result, they share a very similar audience, and being a Veronica Mars fan myself I figured it would be fun to participate ... especially because GilmoreGirls.org will be giving away a season three DVD set of Veronica Mars!
To enter, you simply need to reply to this thread and explain why you admire Veronica Mars and/or Lorelai Gilmore. (For example: you appreciate Veronica's persistence when it comes to solving a case or delight in Lorelai's vast knowledge of pop-culture.) Any reasonable reply will be accepted; it just needs to stay on topic.
Contest rules and information:
- The contest begins October 16th, 2007 at 12:01 AM Pacific and ends November 16th, 2007 at 11:59 PM Pacific.
- Forum members who are under 18 years of age require parent or guardian consent to participate.
- The contest is open to residents worldwide, but the prize is available only as a 'region 1' (U.S. and Canada) DVD set.
- The winner must be willing to provide GilmoreGirls.org with his or her mailing address (which will not be shared with any third party).
- GilmoreGirls.org reserves the right to amend the rules at any time without notice for any reason.
The contest winner will be selected at random on or around November 17th, 2007. He or she will be notified via ORG Forum PM and e-mail. The winner has three days to claim his or her prize. If contact cannot be established with the first selected winner, another contest participant will be selected at random until a winner is reached. All contest questions or comments can be posted in this thread.
To reiterate:
- This is a random drawing contest. (It is not based on the 'best' entry.)
- The prize is one season three Veronica Mars DVD set.
- To enter, reply to this thread and explain why you admire Veronica Mars and/or Lorelai Gilmore.
Thank you and good luck to all! :star:
~Heidi

Veronica Mars is set in the wealthy seaside community of Neptune, California where the rich and powerful make the rules. Unfortunately for them, there's Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell), a smart, fearless young apprentice private investigator dedicated to solving the town's toughest mysteries. In season three, hoping to leave the ghosts of Neptune High behind her, Veronica is now a freshman at Hearst College, along with her boyfriend, Logan Echolls, and best friends, Wallace Fennel and Cindy "Mac" Mackenzie. But despite the students' efforts to soak up the college experience in their own way, it quickly becomes obvious that some ghosts are here to stay.
Season three DVD features:
- Going Undercover with Rob Thomas: show creator Rob Thomas walks us through some of the most memorable moments from season three.
- Pitching Season Four: an in-depth interview with Rob Thomas discussing a new direction for the series that picks up years later, with Veronica as a rookie FBI agent.
- Webisode Gallery: cast interviews and various set tours.
- Unaired Scenes: introductions by Rob Thomas
- Gag Reel

What a great competition. Thanks again Heidi for bringing the goodies to us folk at GG.org.
I think it's very easy to draw parallels between these two wonderful women (heh! listen to that. See for me it's like they are real :D), I mean characters. They both give me that same feeling when I watch their respective shows. That feeling of satisfaction and happiness and pride and power all rolled into one. So to admire one is to admire the other.
They are both well rounded characters that kind of have a mix of it all. Intelligence, wit, personality, beauty, confidence and yet we not only see this side of them but we see the flip side in witnessing their everyday normalcy. They have their problems just like us. But it's the way they handle these situations and that they continue to do it with style and conviction that makes me admire them. They both always have a sense of who they are. Watching them is the perfect balance of escapism and realism for me. And both provide many of the traits I would hope to possess in my everyday life.

<3 Gilmore Girls. <3 Veronica Mars. Let's see -- why I admire Veronica Mars and/or Lorelai Gilmore -- that's pretty simple, for their snarkiness.
And I mean that in a totally positive light. It takes smarts to be snarky; it also takes character and a little bit of courage. Lorelai and Veronica were never mean without it being warranted. They would stand up for themselves or their friends when the time was right [and often do it with biting wit]. That's not always easy.

So true! They were very sassy and full of spunk also. ANother thing that is hard to pull off with regularity!
-
I admire Veronica Mars because she is so hilarious. Plus, I would never want to get on her bad side because she is very conniving. I admire Lorelai for her wit and ability to deal with any situation!
-
I admire Lorelai and Veronica for a lot of the same reasons, they are both strong, smart, and independent women. They are both witty and funny and make each of their TV shows way more interesting to watch.
Great contest, Heidi. I love Veronica Mars.
-
I admire Veronia Mars because of her intelligence. She has a keen sense of what is going on in a situation. I wish I was more like her
-
I admire Veronica Mars because she comes up with the greatest comebacks, and always makes me laugh! she also gets together with the cutest guys...wish i had a Logan in my life!
-
I admire Lorelai Gilmore and Veronica Mars, because of how they were able to handle the adversity in their lives. Being pregnant at 16 and basically starting your life over for yourself was Lorelai's fate and for Veronica she had to deal with her mother's absence while very young. Both women have struggled with difficult relationships whether familial or romantic that haven't always been easy. Both women have worked hard in their separate professions, when at times what the job required them to do wasn't always easy. They both have dealt with betrayal, loss, and the cruelties of the world and others. However, despite all of the struggles they've had, both Lorelai and Veronica have survived. Lorelai and Veronica are survivors! Not only have they survived, but they have excelled and built strong lives for themselves. And while going through various turmoil in their lives, they were witty, charismatic and lovable to those who were willing to see their true selves. I only wish that when I am having a hard time I could be as spunky and full of life as they are.

Hi,
Veronica, veronica veronica. What can i say about her. I like her. She is a strong person who stands up for herself in some very awful situations. She is very smart and can notice things that others do not and put together events into a logical conclusion. she is talented, and can do a lot of varied things. Photography/photo manipulation, voice impersonations etc. Most of all she cares for her family and friends and will do anything for them.
I am really sad that the show got canceled. I have turned a few people to show. I hope we see something from the show in the future. I own season 1 and 2 on dvd and would love season 3!!
best,
ali

I admire Veronica Mars and Lorelai Gilmore because they are two independant women that do whats right for them and never look back, and it always seems to be the right thing in the end. I see my self in both these women and that`s why I LOVE Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars:clover: You know the ability to connect and slip away from the daily life and just lean back and relax...Love Cat (Norway). ;)
-
wow, 2 of my most favorite shows!!
veronica mars is such a strong girl. in the first season when rumors go around the school bout her i wouldnt be able to take it and she does!! i really admire how strong she is inside and out. And Lor well she is also strong in the sense that she got pregnant at 16, had the child, and then proceeded to have her grow up into a beautiful, smart girl. Even when she was on the verge of being broke at times.
-
Wow. Why do I love Veronica Mars and Lorelai Gilmore?! Well, I so love them both, but I have to say that Veronica is probably one of the coolest characters ever created for the small screen. She is witty.. and sassy.. and intelligent beyond her years. And even though we don't have that whole spy thing in common, I can so relate to her.
As I write this, it seems like I may have a gay crush on Miss Mars. :-\
I don't. But I do miss the character and the show more than any of my beloved shows that have left the airwaves. And letmetellya, it was hard to beat out Friends.
Be cool, Soda Pop.
-
i admire veronica mars because she is a strong individual and is adament on letting people know right from wrong.
she may come across as tough and that she can take anything thrown her way but from watching the show we see that she's just a young girl with feelings and stands up for anyone being bullied or in any trouble!!
-
I admire Lorelai's ability to consume whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and stay looking as fabulous as she always does. :P
But really, I admire Lorelai for many reasons. One of which is that when she knows she has no true net to fall back on, she makes it through (with her daughter, with the inns, with everything). She always makes it through! and even though she's dedicated to doing everything by herself, she asks for help when she needs it.
-
Lol Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls are my two favorite shows!!
Well I amire Veronica Mars/Lorelai Gilmore because...Their amazing and smart, and strong even if there going through the toughest solutions . Their so funny and witty. I'll laugh all time watching time. Their both great Role models.
Aww I miss both these characters so much!
-
i admire veronica mars because she is smart, witty, and is a detective!
she seems like a person i'd be friends with(even though she's not a people person)
she's always down to earth and has a "smart" come-back
in that sense she's and i are very alike!
that's all i can really think of right now... but the moment i saw the first episode i knew that i would love it!
-
I absolutely love Lorelai Gilmore for many of the same reasons you'll see below, but my favourite female TV charcter has to be Veronica Mars. First of all, because she's just so smart - none of the helpless female heroine here, just bad-ass, down to business, tough Miss Mars attitude.
Also, Veronica's got this incredible ability to bounce back, no matter how many appalling curve balls life invariably throws her. It's such an inspiring thing, in a totally non-cliched way, to see someone take so many knocks, and for her to get up, a little damaged, but still strong enough to deal with it, every time.
The other most important thing about Veronica is her wonderful support network - she is so independent, and self-sufficient, but occasionally when things get too far on top of her and she has to finally look for help, she's not afraid to; even though Veronica's strong on her own, she's willing to ask for help and support when she needs it, and that's really something.
-
Il ike both shows because the main chaacters are girls, and they are both witty, strong, independant, smart, resourseful, super GORGEEOUSSSSSS and witty!
-
I love Lorelai Gilmore's incredible wit and ability to speak so fast!
-
I like that Lauralai raised Rory by herself. Rory is a great person and I love the close relationship they have together.
-
Why I admire Lorelai Gilmore:
Lorelai grew up with her stifling parents and when she made the "disapproving" mistake of gettting pregnant at 16 she stood up to her parents and she fought for her life and for Rory's life. She provided for Rory her entire life and was always the greatest friend in the world to her - giving us all a mother/daughter relationship we all envy. She's the greatest mother in the world, through all of the ups and downs she was there for Rory and will always be there. She doesn't care what others think.
-
Yeah this is a good idea.
I like both Veronica and Lorelai, they are both such good role models. I mean think about it, a teen investigator that has gone through some much. To me it is amazing she isn't insane, her best was killed by her best friend's boyfriends dad. Then the whole bus thing. Not to mention for a little while in season one, she thought that her ex-boyfriend was her brother and that her father wasn't her father. And that her mother is a alcoholic and that that might never change. After watching this a lot of people think they can do more because of how much she has done. She has gone through so much in all of the seasons that what girl wouldn't want to look up to her?
Now Lorelai, a single mother at 16. She didn't want to get married and she didn't want to live out the life that her family planned out for her. Even if she hadn't gotten pregnant I still think she would have gone her seperate ways from her parents for a while. She is such a role model for all those girls who may be pregnant or could soon be. She didn't want the life she had in front of her, so she decided to be an independent woman and change something. She raised a wonderful kid with some people's help, but I think she turned out so great because her mother was such a strong woman. Watching her raise Rory as well as she did (mostly by herself), makes me think, what is her secret or how strong must she be on the inside?
-
Hello,
I admire Lorelai Gilmore because of her perseverance as a single mother to be the perfect one, and for raising such a beautiful and well-behaved child that became not only the daughter that everybody wants, but a successful and self-driven one.
Thank You.
-
Lorelai Gilmore is a single mother raising a daughter on her own terms. She did not want anyone to tell her what to do, she couldn't live a life under her mother's thumb. I admire her determination, she did not want her child to be raised in a less than loving enviorment, for that I admire her. She gave up everything she had to raise her child. She went from living the comfy life in a mansion in Hartford to the life of a maid in a potting shed in Stars Hollow. While we all love Stars Hollow, it would have been easier for her to just stay under her mother's rule, she would have been cared for. Yet, she knew she had to make a life on her own the minute the strip turned pink. She gave up everything she had, and built a life from the ground up. Full of determination and preservation, Lorelai Gilmore is a woman that many can learn from.
-
I lived a life that for the most part paralells Lorelai Gilmore's life.
She is a strong, self motivated woman, with a quick wit and lovable personality,
yet, bold enough to deal with adversity she faces, on HER terms. Raising a child on her own,
showing that children of single parent families can excel and do not fit the profile of underachievers.
This character is one that I would adore having as a part of MY town! Kudos, Lorelai!
-
The reason why I love Veronica Mars and Lorelai Gilmore is for their quickwits, shown in two different ways. Veronica Mars always has a snarky comment ready to show that she's always one step ahead of you; Lorelai is good for the pop culture references and her zany comments. Both female leads are such strong characters, and two major reasons why I love both shows!
-
What does region 1(U.S. and Canada) mean?
I live in New Zealand. Will the DVD play here?
-
I admire Lorelai Gilmore because she is a couragous woman that managed to handle raising a daughter at the age of 16. She didn't have the help from her parents, but she did it on her own. And her hard work was worth it because Rory ended up graduating from an Ivy League school and becoming a news reporter. I hope I'm as good of a mother as she is. :)
-
Well I perosnally am not a fan of Veronica Mars yet because I havn't watched it before. But one of my good friends LOVES it. We have this agreement, I will talk about Gilmore Girls to her and she will rave about Veronica Mars to me. This is what she wrote about why she admires Veronica Mars:
I personally believe that I am THE BIGGEST fan of Veronica Mars. She’s so smart, funny, strong, and awesome in all ways!! I know that may sound a bit cliché…but it’s true. I admire how she can still fight through life, despite all she’s gone through. I wish I could use her fast-thinking detective skills and pull off those quick come backs she always uses! Its little things like that that make Veronica so cool, and inspire me to live life like she does (without all of the, well, people that I love dying part). I love you Veronica!
And I admire Lorelai because she is an amazingly strong person. She stands up for what she believes in and doesn't give up. It amazes me that she raised Rory almost entirely by herself at just the age of 16. Lorelai is a super woman, a perfect balance of skills and an awesome mum. She should by admired by all people, all over the world!
-
Well what can i say, being a single mother myself I aspire to be as good a mother as lorelei is. To have the kind of relationship the gilmore girls have, with my own daughter is something i dream of. What better role model on tv do you see for single mothers, she shows us you can raise a level headed child whilst still succeeding in the business world. As for Veronica Mars if my daughter turns out to be as street wise, independant and strong aswell as moralistic as she then i know i have done my job right as a mother. These shows are a great inspiration to us all. thanks to the creators
-
Whoo, almost forgot about this. Good thing I came on today. I know I should do this about Veronica, but I have so much respect for Lorelai I feel I should write about her.
I grew up in an area where teenage mothers never had a desire to do well in school. So when I started watching Gilmore Girls I stereotyped Lorelai as this type. I didn't hate her, but I saw her as a single mother who makes mistake after mistake. Since last year, I have watched the complete series 6 times and it has given me a better understanding to Lorelai's life. She is not just a single mother, she is a successful businesswoman. I am currently working towards a business degree and have been around people who are way more book smart then me. That is when the fear would kick in. The fear of failing and the thought of being in a job below the level I want. Through Lorelai, I have the reminder that no matter where you are in life, or the skills that you possess, you can still make something of your life, if you wish to do so. When people ask what I want in life I say "I want the feeling of achievement by climbing to a position in business that I am happy with." Before watching Gilmore Girls, I thought life was about getting that one job and making a living through it. Working hard for promotions never crossed my mind. To some degree I didn't think it was possible. As people, Lorelai and I are very different, but when it comes to her life as a businesswoman it is impossible for me not to admire and respect her, as well as hope to achieve what she has.
