Title: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?
Post by: Heidi on April 30, 2007, 08:01:20 pm
Lorelai? Lorelai?:  When Rory stresses out over life after graduation, Lorelai takes her out for a day of shopping and eating. Then Lorelai invites Luke to join them in the evening for karaoke night at a bar, where she sings a song intended for Luke to hear. Later, Logan returns from a business trip and visits Lorelai to talk about his future with Rory.

I've never posted before an episode aired before, now I've done it twice this season.  Anyway.  I'm anxious to see how the singing in the Karoake bar goes.  I'm trying to picture Lorelai doing that and for some reason it just isn't a picture I can get.

xxLL4Everxx where do you live? You must be close because we seem to have the same time...lol

You realize that everyone sees it at the same time, like, we'll all see it at the same TIME but it'll be different times, you know what I mean? At least I think that's what happens, that in NYC we see it at 8 and then as you go over its like 9 and 10 and 11 but its all at the same TIME. I think. I wouldn't quote me on that if I were you...in the newspaper sense, not the forum-quoting sense, lol.

As for the episode title...I'm kind of thinking it might be like, okay. So we know Lorelai sings karaoke, and she's probably drunk while she does it. Maybe she passes out or something and Luke is trying to wake her up and is like "Lorelai? Lorelai?" I don't know. It seems like it's something someone says, you know?

Yeah. But then again, do we really need Lorelai passed out in a coma again? Too remeniscent of Lane's wedding, and we all know what that was leading up to. And I don't know that Luke seeing Lorelai completely and utterly wasted is the best way to get them back together. More like a great way to repel him.

That was sooo.... I don't have an opinion on the episode, but I thought the kareoke was really good, I was crying so hard... I wanted to kill April when she backed out of the boating trip, Luke looked so disappointed. Did I mention that Luke looks soooooooo much better with the blue hat!!! Oh, and the promo when Logan asked her I was crying, I'm still crying. I think my favorite part was the kareoke, I love how nervous Lorelai got when Luke walked in...

I was surprised with the ending too! I want to kill David Rosenthal!!!

That was a seriously heavy episode. Like not kidding.

Yes, it was quite a serious episode! I think that I'm still processing everything! ;) I will return when I have more thoughts completed and can actually write something worth while. I'm full of emotion and thoughts, just need to conjure them and tame them! However, I know that it was a very important episode which moved the storyline along...quite swiftly if I don't say so!

Two initial thoughts:
1) I don't think the thought or even beginning thought of proposing to Rory should have been brought up at the end of an episode. I wasn't fast enough to turn off the TV to see the quick preview of next episode, but wasn't too keen on it.

2) They crammed an awful lot into this episode! Didn't give the viewers time to digest it...perhaps their intent. Just a thought.

I can't help but think of a possible season 8, everytime I watch a new episode! I can't help but look into everything and think about it relation to another episode, shortened or not. I don't like doing that, but I can't help it! I wonder what everything means in relation to another season or the show's finale coming up soon! Hmmmm...

So what did the song mean?

I'm trying to analyze, but I'm coming up with two results!

Were the lyrics about Rory leaving college?
                   or
Were thay letting Luke go?

Gah.
Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?
Post by: LovelyLaura on May 01, 2007, 05:07:48 pm
But this episode was amazing!!!  ;D

The Luke and Lorelai scenes were AMAZING.  I think I almost hyperventilated during the song.  Just the words, and the emotions, the LOOKS BETWEEN LUKE AND LORELAI....oh my goodness!  It was so obvious that Lorelai doesn't want Luke to go away on that boat trip!  Did you see the way her face FELL when he said they'd be gone 6 weeks?

And then, not putting on the black hat (symbolism!) and then saying that "Maybe this summer won't be so bad after all."  Ohh my goodness, Luke and Lorelai need to go on that boat trip, it's not even funny.  Lorelai told him about all those places she clearly wants to go, and gosh darnit, wouldn't it be perfect!?

Wow, I am way too excited.  They're so getting back together....and life will be grand.

I loved the Lane and Zach scenes.  I've missed Lane so much!  And the twins!  It's so sweet seeing Lane as a mother.  And letting Zach go on that tour -- so sweet.  It was perfect.

All the singing by the way -- amazing.

And talk about one hell of a last scene.  I'm very happy that he, at least, asks for Lorelai's permission.  Just the way it should be done.  And that was, seriously, the most sober I've ever seen Logan.....ever.  In all of Gilmore history.  Very impressed, but Lorelai's face says it all for me.  Uh-oh.
Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?
Post by: javajunkie93 on May 01, 2007, 05:08:48 pm
I know...
Okay, my thoughts on the episode:

I liked the dream, but I thought it was a little weird, because you would think the dream would foreshadow Lorelai leaving her somehow, while it'll be Rory leaving.
I thought it was kind of funny how Lorelai unintentionally sort of asked Luke out, and then she was like "Oops."
The karaoke made me cry. It MADE ME CRY, and I liked how it was obvious she was singing to him without her being like "I will always love you...Luke!"
And the end...whoa. Feel bad for Lorelai! What's she supposed to say? I mean, the answer is kind of there for her, but what if she wanted to say no? I don't know...
And I guess we know where the episode title is from.
Will the next episode take off from this one? IT BETTER!

And the promo...Christopher? WTF?

This was overall an amazing episode! 8D
The Lorelai/Luke part was very cute and touching.
And that he was smiling at her and every one noticed who the song was for towards the end.
And Luke is wearing the blue hat again.
And wow at the ending. Lorelai's face.
And it just ended! D:
Nooo.
I need more Gilmore NOW.

STILL! I liked that thing, "Not here, not now." So true. Public proposals are the WORST. Basketball screen, written in the clouds...UGH.
I'm also still processing it all!
OMG. Kirk singing. MADE. MY. DAY.
And Babette and Miss Patty sucked! They were better when they sang the Star Spangled Banner at Dean's hockey game, seriously!
Lauren CAN sing! That was pretty darn good.
I don't think it was her saying goodbye to Rory OR letting Luke go, I think it was literally that she will always love him. And that's all. I loved how he smiled.
He looks SO much better with the blue cap. At first I was crushed that he was only wearing the blue as a spare, but then when he put the black away I was happy. :)

Pretty good episode. The dream sequence at the beginning was a nice symbolic way of expressing Rory's feelings about how she's stressed out about life after graduation, but I was a bit confused about Paris and Doyle living in her house. I felt so sad for Luke. He was really looking forward to the boat trip with April. :( Its sad for him. Luckily, I hope Lor getting back into his life will help spring things up a bit (even though April was one of the things that really messed them up overall). I knew from the previews last week that Logan was going to ask Lorelai for permission to ask Rory to marry him, and I'm excited. I think its time. I think that Logan has changed since he met Rory, and its for the better. I'm almost completely certain that Lorelai says yes, because they show the previews next week with Logan asking Rory (it looked like Richard and Emily's house. And Chris was there. What event is this??). I can't imagine Logan still asking Rory even if Lor says no.

I was so happy to see Lane, Zach, and the babies (I hadn't seen them yet!). Lane is such a good mother, its incredible. And I felt from the beginning that she shouldn't go on the tour. There's no way she could really take care of five-month-old babies on a tour bus traveling the U.S. And it was good to see Zach again, we've been missing him for awhile. I thought him comforting Luke was out of place, though.. I know Zach is a really good guy, and he's great at heart, but that seemed strange. I didn't think they were friends of any kind.. Zach only knows Luke really because he works at the diner.

Lorelai singing felt strange too (it didn't help that I just saw Lane and Zach's wedding episode just two days earlier where she drunkenly gets up on stage. Far too many similarities). I was suprised that she would do that so easily... the writing, especially for that scene, did not seem like the characters we used to know. It felt like "new" Lorelai. But the message going to Luke was okay. I'm a bit mixed about that, really. I mean, it was great to have Luke seeing (err, hearing) Lorelai's true feelings for him (he will get it, right? Not to be dumbing Luke down, but what if he doesn't get the underlying meaning?), but it was a bit too cliche'.

This episode felt really jagged to me. It almost felt like the entire thing was a dream. I don't know, just the writing and the things the characters were saying seemed weird. It felt really foreign to me.

--- Oh, and new actress for Lulu? I read somewhere on the ORG that there might be a new actress for her.

****oh, and this is my first long reply right after seeing an episode. heh. :)

Yes, all the singing is simply amazing! I loved hearing Lorelai!! :) I think that's the first time we hear her for 'real' - singing! And Miss Patty and Babbett, always a treat! :P

I liked what you said, LovelyLaura about Lorelai's face saying it all! I think you're right! It will be interesting next week when we see how it all unrolls. I can't wait! It was quite the cliffhanger, that's for sure!

I love the fact that Lane and Zach were in the episode so much! It was like old times with Rory and Lane at the karokee night together, talking and all. Made me smile!

Now, just thow Sookie and Jackson in there a bit and you've got a good ol' fashion episode! :D

I'll return for more in a bit. Still trying to just soak up all that was tonight's episode! I've really been enjoying the episodes after the break! It's like I love the current one and the next one beats it! :)

Omg That was such a great epiosode!! I loved it! the babies are so cute. I almost cried when Lorelai sang it was so sad but I loved the hat part I loved when she notices and is looking at him so cute. Yay the blue hat is back!! I really hope Rory gets a good job soon it just breaks my heart to see her upset like that. I am going crazy I don't think I can last a week until the next episode. I was so excited at the end I did summersalts around my room. I think I have a problem I am obbessed with Gilmore girls! :)

Oh yeah I just loved how Lorelai just walked into the dinner like normal it was great!

I loved the dream at the beginning. I cant believe that they brought head master charleston back! I still think that Paris should be a lawyer because of her personality and not a doctor. I dont think that she would have very good bedside manner. She would be such a great lawyer! I would hire her if I needed one!

Quite honestly, I thought this episode was one of the best all season.  DR was right on the money tonight except for 2 things:
1. Too long of commercial breaks.  I tape it w/o commercials for a friend, and my VCR clocked about 40 minutes of GG.
2. The way it just... ended.  Reminded me of the 5th season finale when Lorelai asked Luke and he was just looking at her.

I thought it was a great episode, though.  All season I've felt like most of the episodes were filler, not really moing the plot along.  Boy, did this move the plot along!
Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?
Post by: Gilmorefan xx on May 01, 2007, 05:22:58 pm
I haven't been a fan of many of the episodes this season, but I gotta say...I loved this one!

The diner scenes were great. I think DR does a good job with Zach. For some reason the only funny things I notice, whenever DR writes an episode, are his Zach lines. He should definitely stick with that! The "Chile Queso!"(or something like that) was a part where I really started laughing. Caesar and Zach, funny stuff.
And Lauren has a beautiful voice. It's so unique and it sounded great!

First episode[besides the season opener] that I wanted more! Haven't felt this way in a while, and this one really brought my spirits up!

I for some reason didn't like when Lorelai said "That ship has sailed," to Babette and Miss Patty, only because of when the priest was talking to Rory in season 6 about her "gift." She replies "I think that ship has sailed..." I just don't like when they repeat stuff that's already been done before. I also didn't care for the dream in the beginning, but it was cool to see Head Master Charleston. Rory not doing well on her first final was annoying, 'cause it reminded me exactly of the end of season 5. But overall, I really enjoyed this episode.
Bring on the next episode.   ;D

EDITTT

another thing I kind of didn't like, was that Lorelai didn't invite Luke. She was wondering about how to show him she was glad they were getting to be friends again, and a great opportuinty arose. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Luke came to Casey's[which by the way, where did Casey's come from? There should've been a town meeting or something if it was just getting built.], but I just wish Lorelai would've been the one to invite him.[although, I did miss a about 2 minutes of it, so I may have just missed her asking him].

Heh, so it was Kirk singing and not Rory contrary to the spoilers!  Lorelai looked heartbroken while she was singing when Luke walked in (*sings* there was something in the air that night, Fernando!).  I do think the song was originally for Rory, because she will be leaving soon and has to, she’s an adult and will be starting her life.

I liked the dream, but I thought it was a little weird, because you would think the dream would foreshadow Lorelai leaving her somehow, while it'll be Rory leaving.

Maybe Rory is feeling just as scared to be leaving Lorelai and everything safe as Lorelai is about her leaving.  It makes sense especially since she went back to SH when she started having the meltdown, the safest place.

I’m so glad Logan got the job in San Fran.  It sounds like the people he was meeting with really liked him.  And I think it’s great that he was able to use skills he already has in the new venture.  Getting in at the ground floor, it really sounds like a good opportunity for him.  In the short conversation with Rory he was supportive, that was nice.  I’m not sure how she’ll feel about moving to Pala Alto but I like that he’s ready to make a commitment, not sure marriage was the commitment that was necessary but time will tell.  She means the world to him :smitten:

It was pretty obvious via the conversation with Brian that Lane decided not to go on tour.  The twins are adorable.

Lorelai was so on, telling Rory that it’s not the end of the world.  She has had a lot of success (with hard work) and a little failure will help to put things in perspective.  This may be way out there but what was Lorelai’s look at the end?  Was it all concern or was there any “my daughter may be getting married before me” again?  Especially after the night she had.

I am FREAKING OUT right now!! I dont not want Rory to get married, at least not yet. Rory needs to get her life together, before she can settle down. Could you really imagine her sitting at home taking care of kids and cleaning?? Not saying that if she got married that would happen, but it just doesnt seem right. Also San Fransico!! Rory has to stay in Connecticut, or at least close to it. I was happy to see Lane, Zach, and the twins finally. I feel bad for Lane, Zach gets to go be some rockstar, while she stays at home and takes care of the twins, I guess this is good news though. That was so funny to hear Lorelai sing, I just didnt like how corny they made that scene, when Luke walked in and she got all quiet. I cant wait to see what will go on with them, I hope they get back together. Well I guess I am done for now.

Yes, the Luke/Lorelai passing looks while she was singing was wonderful!  I recorded the epi and will watch it again, I didn't get to see the whole thing the first time.  What I did see was really good.  I think its great that Logan is finally acting responsibly and wants to settle down...too bad it may be too late...

I really loved this episode, but the end was kinda like a soap. Lorelai has and amazing voice. When she was sitting in her living room at the end of the show and she heard a knock on the door, i thought that was luke and i was hoping he was going to grab her and kiss her like in the 5th season when they split up, but it was only logan. Its ok i have faith that things will turn out good!!!

I'm not reading what anyone else said until I've posted how I feel.  So I'm sure there'll be like 10 more replies by the time I'm done.  If I repeat things, please forgive me.

-The dream...that was incredibly weird and Rory didn't look the same in her Chilton uniform...and I didn't get some of it, but it was still an intersting way to start the episode.  It set the mood.
-Luke's hat...it's back and better than ever!!  I loved Lorelai asking Sookie what she could do to recuperate the "hat" gesture.  And then at then end when Zach found the black hat and Luke just put it away, with a smile.
-April...I felt bad for Luke, but if I were in April's position, I would take the camp, because even though she's disappointing her father, that sounds like a rare experiance...but I did feel really bad when Luke was trying to act nonplussed about it.  He was, he took Lorelai's advice and everything, and then his ideas were just crushed.  But, maybe, he'll stay home and get things back with Lorelai...hmmm.
-Rory...I felt bad for her, really I did, but I loved when Lorelai said what people have been saying for the past week about how Rory has always had things easy.  And I think she was being a bit ridiculous, I mean, yes, it was her dream, but the fact that one newspaper already wanted her and the Sun-Times wasn't accepting people.  It's not like every newspaper has rejected her.  And just because she didn't get the fellowship doesn't mean she'll never get a job.  Hundreds of applicants wanted that spot.
-Lorelai...I was glad she wasn't as drunk as she has been when she sang.  At first I thought the song was to Rory, which totally blew away the spoilers I read, and then I saw Luke come and I was like "Ohhh" and then for the second and third verse that song was to Luke, and he was smiling.  And the song makes sense now, because she was orginally singing it to Rory, not Luke.
-Lane...I was so glad we got to see her.  I was so happy to see the twins.  I'm glad Zach's still going on the tour as well.  She's grown up so much!!
-Logan...Oh my goodness.  Lorelai looked so shocked and we know where the episode title came from now...heh.  I'm so nervous....

A lot happened, some things I probably forgot, but, like normal, it was all in the last 10 minutes....

Is it just me, or do a lot of things seem to point that two more episodes will not do it?

Add: 25 replies inbetween.  Well, I underestimated.

That was a great epi! It was mixed signals to me that Zach said he found Luke's old hat. So it wasn't even that Luke thought twice that it was Lor's hat that she gave him that he was wearing but it was just a hat to wear b/c he needed one. So Lor looked too much into what she thought was his "grand gesture". What does that mean? He won't "always love her" too?

What's going on with Logan's voice anyway? It's all deep and raspy. I loved that Lor didn't know what to say.

Yeah, I agree with Lorelai when she said that things have always been easy for Rory.  I mean, I love the girl.  I would model my life after her if....well, I went to Yale.  Unfortunately, most of us do not live in fiction-ville.  But when I watched last week's episode with a few of my friends who hadn't really watched in awhile (and by awhile, I mean season 4), they were able to see things that us crazed fans can't.  That Rory gets EVERYTHING she wants.  Validictorian at Chilton, Yale-Harvard-Princeton, editor in chief of the Yale Daily News?  I mean, Mitchum crushed her once.  I think it's a good life lesson.  Not everything is going to fall into your hands.  I'm glad she was able to recuperate.   :)

- yeah, she looked different in her uniform. that was the very first thing I noticed. well, actually, first, I saw the little age box in the upper left corner (I see it, and think of gilmore girls. how nice...and slightly creepy.), and then I saw a girl, and wondered if it was the right show. (hah.) and then I noticed that her uniform didn't fit right... in fact, it didn't even look the same, really.

- I got a little confused. Is Zach still going on the tour? He is, right?

Yes, it does seem like it!
I keep thinking that all the L/L stuff cannot possibly happen in two episodes.
The Rory stuff could be.

And for awhile, I wasn't really concerned about needing Rory in the show, but she is a HUGE part.

I'm scared for next week.

And have you noticed that they aren't announcing the finale? Usually thay have a countdown, right?

I'm so chewing my nails about an 8th season....I mean, if this WAS going to be the SERIES finale, then you would think they WOULD have some sort of countdown.  I mean, "Two more episodes before the end of Gilmore Girls..." or something like that.

Logan's voice creeped me out a little. I'm pretty much pro-Logan all the way, in the sense that he's good for Rory and they're good for each other, but seeing the credits begin to roll and still hearing his voice saying "Lorelai?" was a bit unnerving to me.

as for th eltitle of the episode...i think that "lorelai" is reffering to rory...maybe bacause she was dreaming that chilton-rory dream!!!

then it could also mean "Lorelai" as in lorelai when she was kinda out of it for a second at lukes with the hat thing...

Lol, I was thinking about that too.  I knew that she was going to sing to Luke too (does reading spoilers mean spunky?  I'm so behind with all this lingo), so I was really concerned when he wasn't there yet.  But I think him walking in, and seeing Lorelai's flustered reaction...then eventually belting it out RIGHT to him was even better.

wow. um so lauren was amazingly amazing!!! i have no words! she can carry her own.. i mean i was laughing cause everyone was watching american idol, and then here comes lauren singing!!! lol. i was like lauren all the way baby!!! this episode made me realize more that i am not ready to freaking say goodbye to the show.. but for a series finale, if this is it, i will settle for something like rory getting a job somewhere great, then luke asking lorelai to go on the trip and them sailing towards the sunset eating lobsters!!! then i can be ok with that... and as for logan asking lorelai for her permission to marry rory, i thought that was really great of logan. but seeing lorelai's face, it was like this thing hit her head on that rory is graduating college and that she will eventually leave and live her own life.. and it might be somewhere far away from her... and i'm not sure if rory will say yes anyway.. it just seems like she would want to get everything straight with her life first before settling down. but if she says no, i don't think its because she doesn't love him.. overall, it was a great episode.. really great.. and kirk singing was just an added bonus.. and i do agree with zach with what he said... lol..

I knew that this episode would end up being one of my favorites and I'm so glad I wasn't disappointed! Everything worked together and flowed, it wasn't exactly the way it used to be years ago becuase it went in this other direction but I think it was reflecting GG as being DR's show.

The funniest scenes were:
Lorelai's first reaction to seeing Luke in the bule cap, I was laughing so hysterically. Lorelai didn't even say a word but it was all in her face and how Luke was so nonchalant about it was totally Luke.

In the karaoke bar when Lorelai and Rory are sitting at the table and Rory wants Lorelai to sing. Lorelai is like "the only way you're gonna get me up there is if I'm slobbering drunk," and then Rory replies with: "That can be arranged" and she orders drinks 2 Lorelai. Rory, you're sooo evil!! Too much like Lorelai, really even Emily would've have done that.

I loved how DR conveyed everything through this episode. Having almost everyone important in Rory's life be there when she needed the support the most. I also loved how he had Lorelai tell Rory what a lot of us were thinking about the rejections she got from the jobs. I loved the Lorelai and Rory bonding moments. Seeing the teacher at the teaser freaked me out for a minute because for a second I thought they had thrown on a re-run until I saw Rory's bangs. I'm amazed to see DR worked so hard on this episode as to having the one teacher I recognised from Chilton and the principal there. Lane and how she handles the twins is amaxing! Who knew she had it in her? I loved her connection to Zach in this episode. I've always been more of a Lane and Dave person so it's very hard for me to love Lane/Zach scenes as much as I did in this episode. The references were plenty and I understood most of them, I smiled sooo big when Lorelai was making boat references to Luke at the counter. Felt like the good old days!

Poor sad Luke... he was really looking forward to that trip, you could jsut see the disappointment.

The singing... Babbette I'm sorry but please don't sing ever again... ever at least not that way. Kirk- when he was singing: "Do You Really Want 2 Hurt Me" I was screaming: "YES! And BADLY! Please stop!" Zach is right if Kirk had the get-up then it would've made a difference. Of course the highlight of the entire episode was Lorelai singing. Of course she was singing off key... for one thing she's drunk, for another she was embarrassed (Last time Lorelai was at a microphone it wasn't exactly a shining moment for her), and of course let's not forget this is karaoke. Where's it's ok not to sing perfect. I loved how perky she was when she started singing and then when Luke came in and she spotted him she almost bolted but she ended up standing her ground and eventually put all her heart into singing. I loved the looks from Luke... the blue hat really does make a difference because the black one would've hidden his face more. I was happy that Lorelai managed to cheer Luke up without even knowing it! I loved how he decided to keep the blue cap on and throw the other one away!

Also, Rory was more Rory than I have seen her in a looong while. Her running to Lorelai's house and hiding under the covers. Her with Lane, her and hating holding back what she feels. I even felt chemistry between her and Logan through the phone so it wasn't boring as usual.

To me everything in this episode screamed: "Season Finale, Not Series Finale" because the setup and the mini storylines; Lorelai and Luke, Luke and April, April and the Science Camp, Zach on the road, Rory struggling in the Real World... it all can't end right there. This is why we REALLY need an 8th season, this episode has reminded me of that more than any other episode in this season.

I give this episode an A for effort and a B+ for execution! Thank-you so much DR for writing this episode because it's now one of my favs and even "Go Bulldogs" looks pretty jealous of it.

*stutters*  Someone pointed out that Rory has gotten just about everything she's gone for?  That she's not used to rejection and it could be good for her?  And, that person was Lorelai?  *presses one hand to her head and another to her heart and stumbles backwards*  I-I feel dizzy.  Lightheaded.  Like the natural order of things has gone astray.

On my list of things that I never want to see again, that once was one time too many -Kirk singing.

Unlike others (I don't know how many others) I don't like Gilmore Girls dream sequences.  I've had some bizarre dreams in my time (Latest one was John Ritter in a musical, playing the devil, wearing a tux) but they never completely fit my situation or my fears, except in some convoluted way that I have to spend 10 or 15 minutes figuring out what it meant.  Rory's dream was way too on point.

I'm glad Lane said Hep Alien will play again (and I hope she means with her in it) although part of me thinks it might have been one of those last vestiges of hope before settling down to the reality of life.  I hope not.  Zach is still a stoner, but he's still a great husband as well.

I'm afraid I can't say anything about Logan asking for permission to propose.  And, best I leave it at that.

Oh, you say there was something else in the episode?  Hmm.

I enjoyed the episode, but i have to confess i was one of the Bon Jovi traitors myself  ;D He is just too cute for words - or songs for that matter. I was interested in how the kids would rock his songs - they are not that easy to sing cuz he has that 80's rocker sound.

I LOVED the last scene with Logan's proposal - speech. It was great. He was so much a - man - in that scene. Just right. Loved how he said Lorelai? Lorelai? twice like that, one over the producer credit. Perfect. Yeah, that is why the name of eppy.

I'll just say, i loved Lorelai singing to Luke, and it was good that he walked in after she started. Perfect. He strolls in. It would not have worked had he already been there.  NOW - that is the DRAMA i was talkin' about! THAT was so much better than the lamo "i am lost in a maze" thing. Yeah - and i am not surprised that the writers worked hard to come up with a very cool way for them to really re-connect. Becuase before her Karaoke, that connection had NOT been reestablished.  But with that grand gesture - it is, once again.  For what that scene was, i think it was pulled off very well.

I was happy with this eppisode (luckily the commercial breaks were such that you could watch the good parts of IDOL and the good parts of Gilmore Gilrs!  HAHAHA one time i did not mind commercial breaks.

Thanks.

I wonder why Dani257 cannot say anything about Logan asking permission...

if they close it down i want a spin-off with Logan and Rory.  For some reason i just love those two together. I have felt chemistry between them from the very beginning. When his character was introduced, i thought right away - "this is the guy" - if they pull a red herring and she bolts or whatever i will be pissed. Well, i mean, Rory moving to the opposite coast - well, they would have to string it out or use visits or phone time, cuz sounds like Logan wants to do it FAST so she can move with him - as an honest woman. I am so glad Logan doesn't just want Rory to live with him = GOOD MESSAGE for the kids out there.

I am fine with Logan asking too. Lorelai and Rory are like one person.

I think we should all give Lauren Graham and Scott Peterson a HUGe standing ovation because I think it was some of the best acting ever! I'm especially talking about facial expressions too! Sometimes words can't say what actions speak and I think they spoke 1,000 words just like that!
Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?

Well, I guess now we know what a "wormhole" looks like. Luke loses his hat, and by coincidence wears the one Lorelai gave him (because he isn't Lorelai and doesn't throw away his ex-ship stuff.)
Misinterpreting the gesture, Lorelai wonders how she can respond, then just as she's warming up to (the DOLLY PARTON version of) "And I Will Always Love You" for Rory, Luke walks in to hear her, and she just goes with it.
Bam, instant communication of something neither would ever say to the other, orchestrated by sheer coincidence. And he kept the hat on purpose.

Lorelai looked more embarrassed at exposing herself than he did about receiving the message, though, and that's going some. Darn it, DR, when will these guys figure out a way to communicate sober!?

I must admit, after all the Logan (is *ahem* human) bashing, Rory's meltdown seems like a timely-if-sadistic reminder that she isn't on her best behavior right after a big setback, either. Blowing one final is a step down from dropping out, but then, gadding about Las Vegas for a weekend is a step down from jumping off a cliff.

Not to mention the (dun dun duuuuun) parallel between her breakdown and Lorelai's. Rory falls apart over professional desperation the same way Lorelai falls apart over failed relationships. The morning after she admitted to  the entire town, not to mention herself, that sheeee will aallways love Luuuke, Logan came to fulfill her worst nightmare by taking Rory and leaving her alone.

Lorelai? Lorelai?

Ok, i am STANDING UP! whoo-hoo!

I have to repeat how pleased i am at the karaoke as the choice to express to LUKE. And like someone hinted - Lorelai also used a drunken microphone moment to rant on  about "I'm not gonna get married ... no, not gonna happen" at Lane's wedding ! So it was so fitting that she had this full circle drunken moment where it appears there is very much hope that she WILL marry - the right man! And Chris was there at that other drunken thing, and now he is gone - lots of - not symbolism so much but - parallels i guess?  I am better with words when my back doesn't feel 90 years old...   :P

I can't wait to be sober myself so i can see who is horrified about the Logan thing and who is hopeful and who could care less..... must be lots of great stuff.... ok, goodnight, unless the meds kick in before the rum puts me out.  :-\  Old sucks.

And I love logan so much, i love that he asked for permission. I was almost in trears when  they showed Lorelai's face, then in the scenes from the next episode i was almost crying because of lorelai at he graduation! OK, done i think, ohhh did any ine else notice Melissa's face is really puffy, its probably the real pregnancy thing!  ::)  ;)

That was such a terrific, fantabulous episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I, like many others, have not even attempted to read the previous eight pages of posts. Sorry!

I feel like I am at a disadvantage because I live in the Mountain Time Zone and when I am beginning to watch the show, many of you have finished.

I loved it. I am so glad that Lorelai was telling Sookie about Luke putting back on the "blue" hat and not Rory. I thought that I read a spoiler somewhere that stated Lorelai would be discussing that fact with Rory. That is what I get for being a spoiler hound.

Rory flipping out was so appropriate. Yes, reality is wonderful isn't it? Growing up is hard and it is good that she is learning that even the mighty Rory Gilmore doesn't get everything she craves.

I was so elated to see Lane for so much of this episode. I missed her and her storyline. Can you imagine if Zack and the new band really takes off? Can you imagine Lane having to fight groupies off of Zack? Lots of potential there.

Okay, I have to admit that I am seriously wondering about the Rory and Logan thing. It seems that everything is going smoothly so I hope the writers don't throw us for a loop or something equally uncalled for and unexpected.

And of course, the L&L interaction was right on the money. I loved it more than anything else. I felt for her when she was singing the song so lightheartedly and then it became serious when Luke walked in the place. The next day you could totally see how she was affected by what she did; hopefully that was her subconscious reply to Luke wearing the blue hat again.

Bring on the reconciliation. Us JJ's have waited a long time for this. How many of you out there think that the boat trip will be Luke and Lorelai, since now April is going to the special space camp?

In the end after Logan asked for Lorelai's permission she didn't respond and Logan said "Lorelai....Loreali?"

Logan's voice creeped me out a little. I'm pretty much pro-Logan all the way, in the sense that he's good for Rory and they're good for each other, but seeing the credits begin to roll and still hearing his voice saying "Lorelai?" was a bit unnerving to me.

oh no... that was one of my favorite parts... i loved it. Isn't it funny - different strokes for different folks  :D

HEY - SPOILER READERS - Where are the best spoilers do you think? I like spoilers pretty much i guess. Thanks.

He is not that bad guys!!!!!!!  :-[
If that's in response to comparing Rory's breakdown with Logan's, no one (I don't think) was suggesting that Logan is bad at all.  Just pointing out that Rory doesn't exactly bounce back from disappointment like her spine is made out a pogo stick either, and it's not a bad thing that a disappointment can make you crumble for a bit.  And, that neither one crumbled as far in their second disappointment as they did in their first.  At least, that's what I got from lessa's comparison.

Spoilers:  Well, we bring most of the spoilers we read over here to the spoiler thread.  If you want it direct, there are two GG spoiler threads at fanforum.com -an R/L one, that I frequent (but, be warned, it's scary creepy crazy there) and an L/L one that I haven't set foot in.  televisionwithoutpity.com also has a spoiler thread for GG, without being separated by ship.  There's the thread just for posting and the thread for discussing.  Best to read the rules and get a feel for how things work first if you want to post.  Those are the ones I know of.

GREAT EPISODE, GREAT, GREAT, EPISODE!  I can't wait to watch it again, and again, and again...Every moment between Luke and Lorelai was great!  I loved how she noticed the hat was back right away!  And how they were acting kinda sorta normal there in the diner, and then the singing...the singing!  Too much of a smile on my face I'm telling ya!  I'm so excited!  Ok, and now I have got to go, I'll post more on my thoughts tomorrow, I still have to gather some of them back up.

It seems that everyone has very bad reactions to major mistakes in this show. They all need to go to a stress managment class.
besides that, what the heck? why did lorelai and chris look kinda chummy at rory's grad party. that doesnt work for me. he's a jerk, he stayed away for the longest while richard was in the hospital because he was mad at lorelai. for all he knew richard could have died and he would have let the people who are his closest family other than his mother and gigi, down.

I loved their fake wool coats, too. How do they pretend to be in New Hampshire when Baja is melting?

And Liz Torres and Sally Struthers make a great singing team with Liz pulling out the sultry long notes and Sally hitting the staccato. I was a little disappointed Rini Bell didn't sing, but I noticed Lulu was jamming out to them while Gypsy gave her funny looks.

I like Lane and Zach's wind up, too. Zach's career taking off while Lane puts hers on hold to live for the babies like her mother did isn't just and ending, it's a beginning. Does this decision have anything to do with the no-sex thing? Will Lane eventually come to resent Zach's fame and piles of dirty socks? And it's kind of cute the idea of Lorelai and Lane being new moms together in season 9.

I loved the way Sookie perked up at the blue-hat gambit. To her, the idea that Luke might possibly maybe just-a-little still love Lorelai is automatically a good thing, but Lorelai immediately worries about the social implications and what would constitute a proportional response that wouldn't give too much away or let his "gesture" go unrecognized.
And, in form, ends up bottling it up until an unguarded moment and belting out a much more intimate sentiment than she'd intended. I love the way she choked when she first saw him, like "oh my god, this song has the word 'love' in it, sorry, Luke, just reading the karaoke page..." Chock-full-o-nuance.

It did not occur to me that Luke ACTUALLY MAY NOT BE in this thing as much as I thought--when he responded to Ceasar off-handedly that Lorelai was OK--(Just OK?!) I thought he was being coy--HE CANNOT POSSIBLY BE GETTING OVER HER, CAN HE?  Say it isn't so! :'(

I liked seeing the yellow backpack again~ just a nice touchstone. It was nice to see the inside of KC's~ mentioned in Season Six though it contradicted a much earlier season where we were told there were no bars in Stars Hollow... this is one of my ultra-nerd situations where I fill in the Stars Hollow backstory in my head.

The boat trip cancellation was not exactly surprising. Gee, what will Luke do with all of those reservations?

A good episode, I was thrilled to see Miss Patty and Babette, and Lulu's starry eyed look. I wish I could have heard what the town thought of Lorelai's serenade.

The song was touching... and for karaoke, that is hard to pull off. Applause, applause! It was all so heartly expressed with looks, though I am still hoping for words.

I truly hope this isn't the last season now, because Lorelai and Luke need to heal so we can get back to the Gilmore family. There are so many words left unsaid there, and I doubt Emily is going to come out for karaoke.

I have to comment on this, no everyone doesn't see it at the same time.  8 pm in NYC is 5 pm in LA so they definitely don't get to see it at 5 pm, it comes on at 8 pm PACIFIC time, so people in California see it 3 hours after the people in the Eastern time zone.  Central time zone might see it at 7 pm so that is the same time as the Eastern time zone people, and those of us in the Mountain time zone see it at 7 pm our time, so that's already 9 pm on the East Coast, you've seen the whole show and had another hour to discuss it before it starts here.   Clear as mud I guess, but my point is, no everyone doesn't see it at the same time.

Loved the Karaoke, and being completely spoiled I knew the song and was wondering how the some of it would apply to Luke (If you stay, I will only get in your way) so when she started singing it to Rory it was a big AH HA moment.  I think its interesting how the song was able to apply to both though, with Lorelai not wanting to hold Rory back and then the rest applied to Luke.  Lauren sounded pretty good which was cool.

I DO NOT think that we need to worry about Zach's groupies as much as BRIAN being the perfect surrogate DAD for the twins when Zach is gone!!  Why else would they show him being so "in touch" and helpful with the babies?  Remember when Zach wrote that song for Lane that Lane deserved and then Zach went nuts because he didn't know what he wanted quite like Brian did?  Remember his interest in Lane's family and culture??  Then he ended up making out with Mrs. Kim's exchange student/ houseguest?  Brian has always had Lane fever!  HE IS ALWAYS THERE, HE IS THE MOST CONSISTENT BANDMEMBER AND SUPPORTER OF Lane & Zach, and EVERYONE, and I hope that the writers DO NOT chicken out on where this story line is going.  Now I'm a big fan of happy marriages, and dedication to one's spouse, but this is DRAMA, guys, mimicking real life...where the action is...and I'm impressed that G.G. is courageous and creative enough to keep these underlying stories going...HOORAY FOR THE BEST SHOW ON T.V.!!!!! ;)

Pretty good? if she was feigning a hot blush, tipsiness, and Dolly Parton's singing style, she was dead-on. And everyone in the audience with a clue kept looking back and forth between the two of them, even Rory, who finally realized there were worse things than losing the internship of her dreams.

I don't think that's the case. I took as, Luke lost the hat on purpose, so he could wear the hat Lorelai gave him. It seems sorta silly when you think of it, but when Zac found the old hat, Luke just put it in his back pocket.

Anywayz.. This was a really good epi. Lorelai really does have a good voice. I loved that we got to see Lane and the twins. I really don't know what to feel about the hole Logan thing. I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

I LOVED this episode.  It is hands down my favorite of the season, and I was glad to read that I wasn't the only one who teared up when Lorelai was doing the karaoke thing.  I talked to another friend of mine who's a GG fan, and when I told her I cried, she just said, "That's a little pathetic." :(

The boat trip cancellation was not exactly surprising. Gee, what will Luke do with all of those reservations?

I am really really hoping that he and Lorelai go on the boating trip together.

I loved that just last night I was complaining about the fact that Lane hasn't been around for a few eps, nor have the elder Gilmores, and then bam, tonight, they all make appearances.  I was glad to see how everyone in the show was pretty much worked into this episode, with the exceptions of Michel and Taylor (at least I don't remember them).  I agree though that if this ends up being the last season, it will be wrapped up way too quickly, and it will also not go out the way it should be, since they won't even say whether or not it's coming back!  It's so frustrating!  Okay, end off-topic rant.

I liked how Zach was so sensitive to Luke's disappointment about the boat trip and yet also completely clueless about when to back off.  He's learning, but he's not all the way there yet, and I think that's as it should be.  The Lane/Zach storyline was done really well, I think.

Oh, and you can put me in the camp of those who liked the opening dream sequence.  I know it's completely implausible that she would have a dream like that, but I liked it anyway. :)

Pretty good? if she was feigning hesitance, tipsiness, and Dolly Parton's singing style, she was dead-on. And everyone in the audience with a clue kept looking back and forth between the two of them, even Rory, who finally realized there were worse things than losing the internship of her dreams.

Yes, I too noticed that even Rory seemed clued in on what the subtext of Lorelai's singing was, and so I was rather disappointed that there was no discussion of it the next morning and that she still made the whole thing about her.  Not sure what to think about that.

As i read these i see that though there are many posts, there is much repitition because we all feel a lot the same on many things! We all seemed to like most of the eppy. I also did not like the dream sequence.  I stated earlier that i will be pissed if i have been fed a red herring.  Well, i remember there being discussion that Rory and Lorelai should both walk off into the sunset - that certain actors were not in favor of them being married.  Here is my personal bias on that. I am biased against the girls going solo or leaving us on permanent cliff- hanger (like they do in the movies - it's a new day, and you have to just imagine the next 20 years) because my life has been one long cliff-hanger, ya know?  I watch Gilmore Girls because there is supposed to be sense where there is no sense - well, actually after this last eppy... i was wondering if they will for sure hook Lorelai up with Luke or just have us imagine.

, i have been thinking of the LAST SHOW of Sex & the City.  In that last eppisode, all four of the girls are happily hooked up - even Samantha! Two are married with kids, Carrie finaly has Big - forever -and Samantha finally surrenders to Smith. PERFECT. I would have been so pissed had they ended "unrequited" - i have had - it - up - to - here - with unrequited.  And i was so proud of Sex and the City for doing the bold thing - go against cliche, finally let them be settled - with men - at the end. I mean that does NOT mean you are not complete unless you have a man, it only means, life can be more fun if you have a partner to share it with. Why is that such a poison topic?  So many movies or series end with the unhappy unfulfilled bs - like Castaway. Oh great, he gets off the island, only to find she is married with a kid. oh BARF. Ok. Sorry for the tangent, but no kidding, this Gilmore Girl eppisode, with Lorelai looking so shocked at the end (like she might protest) and also how Lorelai was talking about being drunk the night before (like, maybe she didn't remember all the Luke stuff that clearly? Like last time?) had me thinking of Sex & the City and i mean, if any show was gonna NOT have the women hooked up with men for good it was gonna be that show. But they surprised me - pleasantly.   Thanks. That is just one old lonely broad's opinion.  :-\  :D

I LOVED this episode.  It is hands down my favorite of the season, and I was glad to read that I wasn't the only one who teared up when Lorelai was doing the karaoke thing.  I talked to another friend of mine who's a GG fan, and when I told her I cried, she said, "That's a little pathetic"

:'(Don't worry about your friend--anyone who wouldn't cry watching a scene like that one (and relating it to SOMETHING in their own life) HASN'T LIVED!! :)

Anyone know what I'm talking about? ;)

Well, I didn't think she was spectacular, nor did I really think she was dead on Dolly, that was just my opinion. Its ok if you think she was.

Oh My Lord and Taylor, i cry at the 4 second ad for Scott's lawn products before the This Old House segment. I am pathetic! You just go on crying there (whomever) ! With al that purple, i am confused as to who was crying....  I know i was... and my doll was crying too.  And my pet pony and my lawn fish.

Yeah, i erased my comment where i was less than kind to Lorelai's singing.  I did not want to offend. But, since it has come up - she did not sing very well.  Had i been directing that segment, i would have worked her performance a little differently.  I wanna see it again. Hey - is there some bootleg way to find it on YouTurd or something?  Just hoping.

HEY - there is an idea. The karaoke belongs on YouTube. Just light the paper bad and RUN! heheheheheeeee! I'm loopy. The medication has kicked in...  :P :-[ :-X >:( ;D ;) :) :o ???

Well, hey, i'm menopausal, i cry at letter openings. Then i forget what i am supposed to do after i open the envelope.  ???

QUESTION: Did Lorelai only get "weird" after she saw Luke? OR was she already thinking of Luke as she sang? See, as a director, i would have her singing to Luke before he came in, very subtly. Did she? thanks.

Alright, tonight my thoughts are coming a little at a time...so forgive me!

I just wanted to say that I'm glad that Rory is finally going through some let downs in her life. I'm glad that she's really going through some hard times and that things aren't just falling in her lap. I know that may sound harsh, but she's got to learn how to handle things when they don't go just perfectly. She will press on and get through this period. She will have to work harder and keep on trying, but that's what most everyone has to do. It's sad to see her not happy and all psyched about life! But that will come again!

I love seeing Lorelai and Rory together as they were in tonight's episode. I love how they are always there for each other. I think the hardest period to go through in the life of Gilmore Girls, was when they weren't getting along or talking. Because you knew they were hurting in their own way. I was so happy when they were getting along again!

I am very happy that Lane and Zach seem to be doing so well! I really liked how Lane was so understanding when Zach announced he was going on tour and how she selfLESSly told him to go for it - go on tour because it was a good thing and she was happy for him! She's really grown up and it's awesome to see! Lane is definitely one of my favorite characters and it's great to see her more!

I love the energy of this episode. How there was just so much packed into - a serious episode moreso but a great one! Just add some more Sookie/ Jackson, and a bit of Taylor and it's just like old times! It was great seeing Miss Patty and Babbett singing...they would be a great act to see!! haha :P Fun times! It's too bad that April can't go on the boat trip, but I bet Luke will find someone else to accompany him...hmmmm?? ;)

Great episode! Strong writing in this one...and in the recent episodes! I'm really enjoying everything!
Viva La Gilmore Girls!

Edit Zeddie: Hello! I don't know that I'd call how Lorelai acted once she noticed Luke was there, 'weird' but she did hold back a bit more - almost nervous or anxious. But, she kept on and I loved that! Luke was probably more uncomfortable about the whole thing, seeing him after she was finished! :P

And it's kind of cute the idea of Lorelai and Lane being new moms together in season 9.[

Huh?

Now I'm a big fan of happy marriages, and dedication to one's spouse, but this is DRAMA, guys, mimicking real life...where the action is...and I'm impressed that G.G. is courageous and creative enough to keep these underlying stories going...HOORAY FOR THE BEST SHOW ON T.V.!!!!! ;)

Double HUH?  With a helping of jigga-wha?  And a side dish of say what???  (I lost my funny bone and this was a joke.  Right?)

More to the point, it was kind of weird seeing Sookie without (*edit) Michel. They're like the split halves of Lorelai's psyche, one focused on the appearance of romance (and inn operation) the other on the substance, the true love that makes the superficial gestures seem, well, superficial.

Like Lane and Zach versus Paris and Doyle. One is her ruthless self that has having it all figured out in her dream. The other is her softer side that wants to prioritize love and family and set aside the pressure of high intensity career decisions.

In real life, everyone has it figured out and they're moving on to the building stage of their lives. Lane used to be about the wacky plans, but now that she has her dream, she seems more ready to focus on living her life than trying to upgrade or escape it.
Paris has chosen "surgeon,' Doyle has chosen Paris, Zach is a rock star, Logan... has a job and a two carat ring.

Seeing Lorelai visibly pine for an ex beyond the reach of her wiles didn't just inspire Rory's pity, the song was also directed at her. Whatever her long range plans turn out to be, she always has the force of nature which is Lorelai Gilmore on her side. And Clark Kent didn't get the job at the Daily Planet the first time he applied, either.

Season 9, you know, the one after 8. No news is good news, right?

We all know that I want season 8.  It's a fact.  I've proven myself over the last few months.  ;)  But ...

After seeing tonight's episode ... I want it even more.  I didn't think that was possible.  I really didn't.

Can we please get an official season 8 confirmation?  I'll do [almost] anything.  If I have to wait until May 17th I might just have my own meltdown (a la Rory).

Sooks-  i said "weird" cuz i use weird as a catch-all word, and NOT literally - so no worries, eh mate?  Here is what i am getting at.  What if a man walked in before Luke with a flannel shirt (or did that happen and i missed it) OR there is a shot of someone pouring coffee to a patron and Lorelai sees it - some visual trigger to remind her of Luke and she begins to wander a bit from Rory and she begins to think "I will always love you" is also a pretty good line for how she feels about Luke (because she saw a trigger) and then voila, thru the magic of scriptwriting he DOES walk in! I mean that is classic drunken behavior anyway.  You know, you are a bit drunk and that makes you think of some heart throb and every guy that walks thru the door you almost think it is him - right?

Or am i the only pathetic one from the 80's?  :P

Anyway, the words to that song don't work for mother -daughter relationship of Rory and Lorelai. That was a stretch.

You know, that song is not a happy one. It really means "I will always love you, but goodbye" - that song is about a bittersweet parting where the only thing the singer is taking is her memories - so, what was she really singing to Luke?  Of course we hang on the phrase "i will always love you" as the key, but the rest of the song is dismal.  What if it means, Luke is gonna move to be with April (because, we just saw how his plans don't work with her) and Luke and Lorelai will only love each other in spirit? Hmm.....  Don't throw rotten fruit, i want it to mean they get married so... I'm just saying, the real meaning of the song.....  :'(

OMG best episode all season!!!!

My first reaction was, HE PUT IT BACK ON! The hat is back! Thank gosh! Finally, it took long enough. It may not mean all that much and maybe I'm building it up to far. But you know he hasn't worn it since they broke up and now it's back! I'm so happy it's definatly a step in the right direction! And the song, I knew Lauren was a singer so I was really interested to see what song she would be singing. But I never would have imagined I will always love you. But it was perfect!! Expesially when Luke walked in, it was perfect timing. I felt really bad that April had to cancel on Luke but you know I think that the camp is a really good place for her. And now Luke is hanging around Stars Hollow for the summer, who knows what can happen over a whole summer!?! It was relavent that Luke was really disappointed that April couldn't make it but I think in the long run it will turn in to something that will make it all worth while.

I felt so bad for Rory, it seems like everything shes worked for her entire life isn't ending up like she thought it would. You know which isn't a bad thing but you know, it's a little unexpected. At least that's what I think. I could have figured that when I saw the promo for tonights episode that Logan was asking Lorelai if he could marry Rory. But I was really happy when he did it. At first I must admit that I wasn't a fan of Logan, but now seeing him in Stars Hollow, and just around Rory in general. It works! I will be the first to admit that it really works. Now I get the whole everything is looking up comment on the phone.

Lane and Zack, I'm really interested to see what happens with them. If Zack even goes on tour. It seemed like he was set in the fact that he wasn't going unless Lane and the boys were going with him. But I think that if Lane pushes him enough, he'll go. He'll have a great time and everything will work out.

It's so hard to believe that tonights episode was the 20th of the season! I mean there can't be much season left and so much to accomplish. I hope our efforts in the Great 8Mandate will pay off!

And again I have to say, THE BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON!

I thought the episode tonight was great!! I'm a big L/L fan, so I was happy w/Lorelai singing "I Will Always Luv You" for karoke. It was directed to both Rory and Luke but, I'm gonna have to say when Luke walked in her attention went directly to him. When she sang the rest of the song, her eyes didn't even leave Luke, not for a second. Now that, my friends, is LOVE!! I was crying big time. Sorry all of you Chris fans, but she luvs Luke. Actions speak louder than words. You could tell when they were talking about the boat trip, Lorelai didn't really want him to go. Her face said it all!! They will end up back together I would say by the last episode of the season, especially w/the kiss coming up. I'm still hoping for a Season 8!! I want to see L/L married and a baby on the way.

I thought the dream sequence was a bit literal. Although i do sometimes have those literal dreams, they are usually more impressionistic / symbolic. Someone else commented on that. Well, i too thought it could have been better. I mean, you are doing a dream, do a DREAM - you know? Make the bathroom impossible to find or have the faces obscured or something. What is the point of watching a dream on TV if they are not going to make use of all the digital effects?  :D

Ok, i see people commenting in Lauren Graham / singer.  Is she supposed to be a singer?  I did not find her voice pleasing. At the end when she belted - it was not so great for me. Was that supposed to represent good singing? But hey - i WAS flipping between IDOL and there was some good singing on there, so... maybe that was it.  When Lorelai sang, i caught 95% of that - and of course the part where Luke is there.  But i am serious - is Lauren considered a singer?

Thanks.

REPEAT - WHAT IS COFFEE AT LUKES.

Coffee at Luke's is a new book of essays about Gilmore Girls due later this year, written by the writers. You can pre-order it now through Amazon.

As far as Lorelai's singing, it was great... in the terms of karaoke, where people aren't supposed to sound that good. I think Lauren Graham understood it all too well, she seemed tipsy, but honest, and held back from singing as well as she could have.

I read somewhere that Lauren was in an a cappella singing group in college called the Metronomes.  I think it takes a lot of guts to go in front of people and sing when you really do not do that for a living.  Especially when it will be ensconsed on tape for the rest of eternity for people to watch over & over.  The best part for me was when her demeanor changed during the song.  She is just great with those subtle emotions.  I don't know how she didn't cry herself!!!

Interesting.  I've seen books for other tv shows, but they're mainly trivia or filled with episode guides and character descriptions, not essays.

I'm a singer too and I can recongize when other people have been professionally trained and she definately has been. I knew it right away when I heard her sing: "The Wind Beneath My WIngs" to Rory. I think she sounded the way she did because she was portraying a character who was drunk and nervous. She was purposely trying to sing good but at the same time sing bad which is VERY hard to do I can image there must've been lots of outtakes.

I don't think that's the case. I took as, Luke lost the hat on purpose, so he could wear the hat Lorelai gave him. It seems sorta silly when you think of it, but when Zac found the old hat, Luke just put it in his back pocket.

Now that you mention it that does sound better. I mean Ceaser was able to find the hat so easily over Luke who knows his diner up & down... obviously he couldn't have been looking for it TOO hard. Then he was satisfied with crumpling up the other hat and practically throw it away with this grin on his face. Sly fox that one.

Oh, please do not get me wrong. I thought it was perfect - for karaoke, and for the performance there and for being drunk, feeling emotional about Rory, seeing Luke - all of it.  I would not have inquired except that people are saying "Lauren is a singer and she really belted and it sounded good..." That sort of thing - i just knew i was missing something, but now sangria, thank you for filling in the blanks. I vaguely remember past discussion or interview where she talks about this - but i could not for sure remember.

I thought at the end, she might have pulled out all the stops and actually tried to sing well - as if she just surrendered to it and decided to sing from her heart. I saw some of that - but it still sounded amateur, so i figure she was trying to sound like she cannot sing. ? I was just confused, is all - as is, "Well, can Lorelai sing, or not?  ???. OR - OR - she was too emotional to sing right. You know, maybe i flipped to IDOL at the end after all - i don't know. I am an idiot. I was never in a choir but i used to sing at weddings and in college musicals and every year at our block party we do the karaoke.  So i try to sing "real" when i do it.  That's all i was wondering. Thanks.  Oh, i also used to sing in what we called ratskellers - or something. What the heck did we call those basement coffee shops in college?  I play guitar, i used to sing folk songs, the typical 70's hippy scene. hehehe. What a dork i am, right?  8)  ???

Yeah, when i did musicals we had a musical director who trained us some - but i am not a voice major. However, i do know what you mean, when you can actually sing and you try to sing bad - i have tried that, and it is not that easy. It still sounds like a person who can sing, who is trying to sing bad. Yup. I hear you on that one. Well, this topic is hardly an issue for national security. I am actually sorry i brought it up now... really.  Sorry.  :P  When she sang Wind Beneath My Wings - she did sound trained.  Although it was cheesy. When you can sing, it is hard to not "sing full out" - my voice is actually quite big, and it is hard for me to sing a song for someone to recognize and not put my wind behind it.

Say, What type of singing do you do?  Do you perform? / Did you?  Thanks.

Thanks, Rhiannon, for letting us know about "Coffee at Luke's".  It better not be a going-away present/ last ditch money maker because the show's ending.  I don't mean to be cynical.  It's just that Everwood was a pretty good show, I bet a lot of Gilmore fans liked it--and they ended that show really fast--wrapping it all up in one episode package.  There were happy endings, but I felt like it was wrapped in newspaper  :-[.  I hope the WB doesn't do that to us.  :-\

I loved how lauren graham has those sences that u have to get emoitnal and she dose it. She really crys. i love it. then i cry with her. Shes a good actress at crying. When i see other actress try to cry. its fake but when Lauren cries there sometimes 100% real. Its like sehs really into it. I Love that about her. The karokie sence. you can tell she was crying a little. i bet when she was done she got off the stage and just balled her eyes out. I wonder if she really likes scott. They would maka great couple.
Now im really axious for next weeks episode. I have been looking around on youtube for tonights episode to watch it again.
We really need a 8th season. Luke and lorelai need to get back together nad stay together get married and have a another kid. it would make the show end great.

I have watched this episode 3 times tonight. It is so amazing.
Yes I noticed the new SUV...i was hoping it was a fill in for her jeep being fixed but I am not sure.......found that confusing.
One bloop......when L. sat down with Logan her French frie container was open, in the same scene it was then closed.

Her boat lines in the diner.........so funny.......'all hands on deck'......okay now I am done.

THe song......L. never took her eyes off Luke once he walked in. Every word was for him and how much she loves him. He put his head down and when he raised it, he had tears in his eyes. He gave her that smile.....he loves her very much.

The hat...he put is on while missing his black one ( I think on purpose too) but he realized it meant so much more once he saw L. looking at it. Just as the song she was singing wasnt set out for him at first but did become about him when he walked in.
He also said he was now looking forward to the summer again...... :-*

You know, my sister and i loved Seinfeld. I am not so happy now becuase of what "Kramer" did. Stupid. But, i still am a fan - My sister got so bad, she could not miss an eppisode even when they were all reruns. She was fanatical! Well, now and then, i would not watch - i would go shopping or watch something else. Whatever. Finally she said to me, "Do you do that because one day it may be gone for good and you don't want to fall apart?"  And i said, "Yep."  I am starting to get that feeling for Gilmore Girls.  Maybe it is time i pull back some, i am thinking. I mean, if these characters don't end up how i want, i will go into a depression, and well, i can play the scenario out from there... the inevitable end of the show. Then what?  I feel that i have to start protecting myself - not let it be that important to me. It stops being healthy when you are getting depressed over a TV show, because you cannot control it. You are playing right into the greedy exec's hands...  I have to be able to not care when the time comes. Maybe that sounds cold, but -  it's about self-preservation for me at this point.

I already have to worry about the Packer's losing a football game - i already go under when that happens. I can't mourn GG to hard on top of that.  I was actually sort of proud of myself for flipping back and forth for IDOL.  Yeah, it was a great eppy to watch - of course- but my GGirls are gonna break up with me pretty soon - if not this year, then next....  I have to be stronger than the show. I have to keep ME and not like - lose some part of my identity.  That is how my mind is currently working.  I will never forget my sister having the Seinfeld epiphany, after being SHOCKED that i could turn it off now and then.... hmm...

gilmoregirls1fan - hahaha! me too, looking on YOUTUBE. LOLOLOLOL.

GilmoreGirls1Fan, I LOVE your signature--and I couldn't agree more!

It was cool to see Headmaster Charlston again, because, of all the believable characters on this show, I have a very hard time separating the actor from the character.  That guy was made for that role!!  I remember actually feeling sorry for him when Rory graduated from high school that that actor couldn't play Headmaster Charlston any more!  I saw him on some other show once, and there's no character like that one for that guy!! ;D

I've actually seen him on other shows before (should I admit to having watched My Two Dads back in the day?) but still, when he guest starred on Stargate last season, I could only think that Headmaster Charleston was an alien!

agreed, get a new boyfriend.  Oh, i wanted to say, i thought that blue and white dresson Lorelai was SOOOOO adorable ! She looked so young and trim - perfect dress. I have a dress similar that i made years ago. I can not currently fit into it - maybe i never will, as i was like in my 20's  ;D  But Lorelai wears those types of dresses i used to make all the time.  I love her clothes (wardrobe)

Maybe instead of Headmaster Charlston he should be known as Hep Charlston.  Hey, Dani257, I was reading your articles on your site (--They are Your articles, right?) and I agree about Alexis--they can have a show with Lauren and all the other zany characters on the show--and that may be why they're setting up Rory to move to left coast--She's a great part of the show--but we still have at least 2 gilmore girls, and if you count Cousin Marilyn (Remember the adorable Marion Ross!!!), that's 3--Lorelai & Luke's daughter would be 4.  Even April could be acceptably grafted in as an honorary Gilmore--she certainly fits Rory's shoes, and if she needs college prep, how about Chilton?  And here we are coming around the mulberry bush again--HELLO HEP CHARLSTON!!!  :o

So I guess this post might be viewed as spoilery if you haven't thought about how the season will end. But I'm guessing you have...

So I've got 4 possible ways the last episode can go now, since I'm guessing the season finale will largely hinge on Logan's proposal....
All contingant on whether there's a season 8 or not...
1) Rory can't leave Lorelai because they're so close and says no to Logan. - possible show ender ie gilmore girls forever! and all that or rory's subsequent emotional turmoil will be dealt with in early season 8.
2) Rory wants to write for an east coast paper and says no to Logan. Unlikely as she has few options where she is at the moment.
3) Rory says yes to Logan and they move to San Fran, where she starts writing for the San Fran Chronicle (is that the name of their largest paper?) or free lances via email. Also possible show ender. Or show extender as it now focuses on Lorelai with Rory only popping up ocassionally which was an option discussed for season 8.
4) Rory says yes to Logan, they move to San Fran but then in a storyline similar to what happened when his year in london became more like a few months he gets appointed to oversee the eastern seaboard and the start up's ventures there as he has all the new york contacts and they move back pretty fast. Unlikely but it's still my fav option so far.

The last episode is supposed to be called Bon Voyage but then that could mean Bye Yale or Bye Logan or Bye Stars Hollow and Lorelai or Bye Fans if there's no season 8.

All in all i thought that it was one of the better episodes i have seen in all of season 8.  Lorelai sining was possibly the best part of the whole episode and then Miss Patty realizing when she stumbled over some words, why she was stumbling.

Hi!  I thought tonight was a terrific episode!

I read the last few pages so I hope I am not repeating anyone's thoughts.  I have to go to work soon and don't have the time right now to read all the posts but I will read the rest later today.  I just wanted to say that I loved the scene in the bar when Lorelai was singing that song to Luke.  However, I got more of a sad feeling than a hopeful one.  I feel like the writers were trying to put the L/L situation to rest by Lorelai saying she will always love him and she wishes him well.  I suppose it could also go the other way but that's just not the impression that I got.  I also felt like this episode leans towards not having a season 8.  I really, really hope I am wrong on both accounts because I would be devastated if they ended the show and if they ended it on that note.  I don't mean to sound negative, I just wondered if anyone else got the same vibe??
Off to work!  Have a good day everyone!    :)

yeah. She was directing the song to luke but in some of the word she was wishing him love and happiness for the rest of his life. In a way she was sort of letting go or letting him go.

Im still mad at the last scene im soooo excited for next weeks epsiode! I cnat wait a wholeeee week!

jaw dropping episode, seriously, this was one of the heaviest yet.
the dreamsequence was amazingly good, infact, the storyline of the sequence, i seriously wondered have DSR been on this forum, because the story was like almost taken from some "episodes" by various people in the funny screencaps thread. Loved the part especially with Paris,Doyle & their Kids
The blue cap thing, did not expect that either. The Lane(!!!!!!!!!!!!)/Zack(/Brian) parts was immense, loved them.
Rory's hiding out thing, well expected but not really, the not finishing the paper thing was funny in a tragicomical way,
Bummer about the boattrip thing also
and leave it to Kirk to really butcher something that sounds like it was butchered already.
Lauren Graham's singing was suprisingly good, and the transitioning into the awkward part of the song was nicely done.
and oh fecking wow, no seriously, i was not expecting a proposal coming from Logan, if anything, it's too soon.

the only part i really didn't like was the FND, the writing wasn't that good on that one

Well, that was a great episode.  There was so much going on.  It flew by, except for the stupid commercials.

The dream sequence was cool, but it gave me a fright at first.  I thought they were rerunning an episode from years ago.  I think it symbolized that Rory feels like everyone is moving forward getting what they want out of life and leaving her behind.

I loved how Lorelai just walked right in to Luke's no big deal.  Babette eating the cereal to give her voice that husky quality was funny.  Sally Struthers is really good.  Gosh there was so much to talk about.  The whole nautical thing funny.  I love how L/L have the old banter back.

Sookie and her meatballs.  I could always use more Sookie, but we got a lot last week so I'll live.  I was sad when Lorelai said she got rid of all her Luke stuff.  I was thinking about the earrings and necklace that Liz made.

Lane and Zack were great.  I really love Zack.  He's so gentle.  Lane was cute--"Serious foot stomping."  I love how you could see her thinking when she and Brian were talking about taking care of the babies on the bus and recognizing how great her mom is with the babies.

I haven't really liked April (forgot the actress' name), but she was better in the episode.  Although I would have liked to see her be a little more sympathic to Luke's disappoint.  Maybe she could have said "I'm really sorry to disappoint you dad."  Anyway, I was really sorry she disappointed Luke.  That was very sad.  I really liked Zack comforting him though.

Gott come back later, gotta get the kids to school.

--- Oh, and new actress for Lulu? I read somewhere on the ORG that there might be a new actress for her.

It really wasn't strange for Zack to feel close to Luke.  After all he (Luke) is the boys godfather.  Anyway, Zack is just a gentle (abeit goofy) kind, guy.

Also I didn't notice that Lulu was a different actress, I thought she was the same.

Anyway, I think I left off earlier at Zack and Lane just going out to Casey's.  Anyway it was so sweet and mature of Lane to know she couldn't take the babies on that tour.  She didn't really even seem to mind.  She likes that she's got it together taking care of them and that seems to be the most important thing to her.  I loved how Zack was like oh, right yeah we can't really go on this and protesting when Lane said yes you can and should go.  Anyway I really liked how Lane has come full circle and how she can let things go and keep hold of the good things.

I thought Patty and Babette were fuinny.  Lis Torres really has a nice voice and knows how to use it.  She was a little drowned out by Babette, but I actually think Liz's voice has gotten better since she lost weight.  Maybe she can breathe easier or something to support her voice.  Kirk, oh my gosh so bad, but then every few notes he would hit a really nice one, I was wincing through the whole song.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lauren Graham's voice.  I love that song.  The early part when she was singing for Rory was perfect.  She was just saying I know you don't need me anymore, you're going to do great in your life, even if you do have a set back or two along the way.  BTW, I'm glad they had Lorelai bring up the fact that Rory has really gotten pretty much whatever she went after.

But when she was singing to Luke, (I think possibly the most touching moment in their relationship) she was right on what she wants for him, joy, happiness and love.

I'm reserving any comment on Logan asking Lorelai if he can ask Rory to marry him, until I see her answer.

All in all a great episode.  This is the first one that really makes ]me want a season 8.

I kinda haven't read the past 3 pages since I went to bed last night, but on the topic of the song.  I think it started out meaning "I love you, but goodbye"  because she was initially singing to RORY.  She chose it because of RORY.  Rory going off into the big world, graduation, etc.

But as soon as Luke walked in, she realized what she was doing, changing what she was saying to "I will still always love you" (including now).  I mean, there's always room for interpretation and yeah yeah.  Lorelai may have really been saying goodbye and Luke misinterpreted it.  But this late in the game?  I don't this so.  I think Lorelai's jonesing for Luke -- there's no doubt about it.  I mean, I keep on repeating it, but that look on her face when he talked about being gone for 6 weeks on the boat trip!  She didn't want him to go!

Anyway, that's what I think.  Even though the CW are bastards and haven't given us one clue as to whether this is the season/series finale, I don't think they'd throw ANOTHER wrench this late in the game.

WOW OH WOW OH WOW. i have to EAT MY WORDS -or my posts - i just watched Lorelai sing now on YouTube. Ok, fellow GG fans - the thing is, the only way i can watch the WB in my home is on a crappy tiny set that sits in the kitchen - one crappy speaker. Well, no wonder her voice sounded distorted.

When i watch it now on Youtube, thru my proper stereo speakers, it made ALL THE DIFFERENCE Oh my, i need a REAL television set. Wow. I hve never heard such a difference. I mean, she sounded GOOOD - GREAT in fact.

Ok, here is my public APOLOGY to all of you - wow.  In fact, she had to work to keep her sort of "baby-nasal" quality in her voice that she was putting in there to sound like an amatuer.   OH, i also went looking on Youtube and found her singing on Ellen's Show.  If i find the link again i will include it.

So, please forgive me and have sympathy for my tiny little 2 inch speaker i heard it over. It is quite frustrating, really, esp. since my background is in theater and television production.  Ugh. I should buy fewer SHOES and more AUDIO enhancement.

COLOR ME SHEEPISH.  Anyone got a sheep icon for me??? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Having said all this, i would love to here Lauren Graham sing proper. YOu know, she sings on Ellen, but she still is sort of laughing at herself - too self-conscious, and of course you would be self-conscious these days, because there are so many dynamite singers we hear all the time, that an actor who is not a singer proper may feel funny really letting loose. But i wish Lauren would get over that and TRULY sing - just sing like a singer.  i think it would be just FANTASTIC.  Here is hoping we hear her sing some more.  :) :) :)

Ok, i have to watch that over and over now. THANK YOU GGIRLFAN! THANK YOU!

I LOVE how Miss Patty puts her hand over her heart after the song - she is so moved.  Yeah, i bet it took quite a few takes to do that. I bet they rolled multiple cameras though. I would be interested to know the behind the scenes dope.  Thanks.

OOOOOOO - CHECK THIS OUT - NOW...

Ok, now i have to see Lauren Graham in Because I Said So. Hey - is the movie worth just buying for her? Is she in it alot? I don't like to rent DVDs because they always ruin my DVD machines.  >:(  I lost 3 machines in a row like that - now i have had one for 2 years, but i never play rentals, i only buy certain movies. So, is this movie worth buying guys? I mean, does Lauren have a nice roll in it? Thanks for any advice on this.

You know what I noticed about the dream sequence?  That yellow backpack.  Oh that thing is huge...fond memories of dork Rory.

Hahah. Totally.

The first thing I thought of when I saw her sitting at her desk and she got called out, I was like "They'd better have the huge yellow backpack or I will personally kill DR." The backpack was like, a friggin part of the uniform itself. It is good he didn't saddle her with a more sophistacted one.  :D

Overall, great episode.

If Rory says no I will have a coniption. OMG I wish he was sitting on my couch. ;)

Thanks.

OOOOOOO - CHECK THIS OUT - NOW...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyuGHxGKyKQ

I agree.  She was trying hard to sound like a beginner, but every once in a while, her true voice took hold.   I too would like to hear what she would sound like in a studio recording.

I don't feel so bad living in the Pacific Time Zone now.....
:P The tv in England is bad, we don't get anything for about a year after America. So I just watch it all on the internet and DVD  :)
Some would say though that you all got to see Doctor Who way before Americans got to see it.  No real comfort though in the case of GG.

I've been thinking a lot about the song, and when you think about it, it's not a standard love song, it's a goodbye song, and even though I definitely think it changed when Luke walked in, I wonder how he interpreted it.  Did he latch onto just the "I will always love" you, or did he also hear the lines that speak of bittersweet memories and the part that says "We both know I'm not what you need"?  Because those lines sound like someone who wants to be with a person, but knows that wouldn't be the best thing, so I'm trying to figure out how much of the lyrics we're supposed to read into the situation.

Thoughts?

Yeah, Lauren was all in,  :'(, but I think Luke was just msty eyed. I had to pause it while we were watching cause I got all choked up, my aunt just started laughing at me, she was like "These aren't real people, you know?"

"They are to me, blasphemer!" And then I got under control until she rewound it and hit play again. All weepy!

But I think they both latched onto her realizing as she saw him that she would always love him, that's what I got from it.

Hey guys, I'm new to the boards- but a GG fan all the same.

Last nights episode was awesome!!  I have a question to propose to you all though...

I went on TV Guide's website, and they have the "blurb" posted for the season finally already, (it will be episode 22 again due to air May 15th).  Here's the blurb...

Episode Detail: Bon Voyage - Gilmore Girls
In the seventh-season finale, Rory gets a job as a political journalist; Luke organizes the whole town of Stars Hollow to throw a graduation party for Rory, who gives a speech expressing her gratitude for their support over the years; Luke's thoughtfulness provokes an unusual reaction from Lorelai; and Luke and Lorelai have breakfast with Rory on the morning she is to leave and begin her career. Journalist Christiane Amanpour has a cameo.

Ok- so after last night's episode I think the obvious question is weather or not they will end the season with Luke asking Lorelai to go on his boat trip with him.  As of last night I thought that would be a bit odd, cause that's a big deal and they're JUST starting to work our their friendship again.  BUT... with this description of the season finale, and Luke spending so much time with our Gilmore Girls, I wonder if he will!!

Also- this episode doesn't sound like a series ending... I've heard rumors that the CW is gonna do a season 8, but with only 13 episodes instead of the normal 22... has anyone else heard this?  Is anyone able to confirm or deny this?

Yeah- I agree with Simply Cynical... The whole room realized she was singing to Luke.  When her tone changed during the second verse they turned around to look for him!!

As for Luke's reaction... I think he got the gist of the song.  She picked it because in a way she's saying goodbye to Rory... but when Luke walked in she couldn't take her eyes off him.  When they cut to his face during the 3rd verse he looked sad, but then after the song was over he was smiling to himself.  In an interview done with Scott Patterson earlier in the season, he claims that Luke will always be pining away for Lorelai, and weather we get our ending or not, I believe that's true at least =).

I'm new to this site as well...

I always record GG at work (No cable at home), but my VCR cut off last night right after Logan told Lorelai that he wanted Rory to go to San Fran as more than just his girlfriend. What happened? What did Lorelai say?? Did anything else happen after that?

Oh and one more thing!!  At the very end of the song, she did that little apologetic shrug and smile... like "Sorry, but it's true, I will always love you."

"I will Always Love You" is a goodbye song, what did you think? That she was proposing?

I think it must be some kind of karmic retribution, too, for all those years Lorelai knew Luke had a crush on her, and refused to give him a sign to avoid messing with their friendship. I guess it's refreshing (if sadistic) to see her stumbling around with him, worrying that he'll think she's asking him out on a date and stuff. And it definitely seems to make him feel good.

Ok, I don't notice these things too much, but did anyone else notice that Amy Sherman-Paladino's name was in the opening credits as director or producer..or something like that?  And so was Lauren Graham's?  I thought that was kind of odd.  Has she always been in the credits since she is the shows producer, or did she have some control with this episode?  I definately thought this could be the beginning of the end of the series as I watched.  I can see things starting to wrap up.  Last night's episode was definately one of the best of the current season, and I am glad to see the show starting to come out of its "slump."

I haven't watched the whole chapter yet (waiting till it's downloaded to my pc %30.8 yet).

Anyway,I've seen the karaoke scene in which Lorelai sings, and I've got to say, she could be a great singer!!
At first it was nice and a little bit funny when she sings to Rory, but when Luke enters and she sees him, everything changes, and she is singing to him.
I believe she is trying to let him know that she'll always love him, she is trying to win his friendship and love again. It was really cute when she is like crying on the inside, and Luke looks down and when his face goes up again, you can see that his eyes are very teary. That was really nice.
And at the end of the song, she is like, sorry but it's true, I'll always love you.
This scene at the karaoke was one of the best scenes in GG.
Now I need to see the whole chapter so I can comment everything.

See ya!

Yea i notice. Logan said Loreali?.. Lorelai?. She was thinking "My baby my only baby girl already getting ask to be married." I dont think she wants to lose rory. rory is her only child and she loves her as a best friend and daughter. you can tell lauren was going to cry. I think her an alexis are really close. they have been friends for 7 years. There so close. so when they have those mother, daughter sences.
For example
Rory:Mom i love you.
Lorelai: Kid you have no idea

That was probbley vey touching sence to them. i love when lauren and alexis have those sence and the hugging and kissing good by on the cheek. and in some old eppisodes lorelai and rory lay in bed together. Lauren is like alexis mother in real life. Well i would say morther. Like a best friend. that loves her a cares about her. they have a good relationship. and when gilmore girls ends they will aways be our gilmore girls.
I read an interveiw lauren had., She said "We gilmore girls have to stick together". So say if alexis leaves the show then lauren would have too. They do thing together. thats what best friends do. they stick together.
In my heart they will aways be my gilmore girls. no one would ever replace our gilmore girls.

I think it was probably a combination of feelings running through her.....
1.  If Rory marries Logan, she will be moving all the way across the country (losing Rory)
2.  What will Rory think?
3.  Will this affect Rory's career and all we had hopes for?  Will it affect her decision making?
4.  Is this the man I can see Rory spending the rest of her life with?
5.  and yes, I'm sure there was a little of "I can't believe my daughter might actually get married before I do" kind of feeling, and thinking of what she had with Luke and lost.  :(

I've been thinking about how Lorelai reacted when Luke came in.  It seems like she was feeling uncomfortable because she was in the part of the song that talks about letting go - which of course was appropriate for Rory, but not for Luke.  It seemed like she was stumbling around trying to get out of that part of the song and kind of mumbling a little bit.  Then when she got to the wish you joy, happiness and love she was "all in."  (I love that phrase! :D)

My goodness, doesn’t anyone sleep anymore?  7 pages while I was snoozing, whew.

I don’t think Luke purposely lost the black hat.  I do think some thought had to go into wearing the blue hat (he did stop wearing it when they broke up) but men just aren’t as sentimental, especially Luke (obviously by the fact that he didn’t throw it out like Lorelai did to all of her Luke paraphernalia), to where he would go through the trouble of making up a story (lost hat) to wear the old one.  I’m sure there was a passing thought that she gave it to him when he put it on, of course, but I don’t think he purposely lost the other one.  I could be wrong though, I’ve been known to underestimate him before.  I don’t think it was until after the karaoke that he had sentiment in wearing the blue when given the choice.

Quote

Side note: this was a spoiler and your reasoning was brought up when we first found out (the original song was supposed to be Abba’s Fernando but it was changed later on). As many have said today, this is why I’m convinced it started out about Rory and her need to move on but that Lorelai will always be there for her.  When Luke walked in part of the words worked and she morphed it into being completely about him.  And even that was two fold.  She’s not sure how he feels about her (I assume) in a romantic way (after all they literally just became friends again) and if they can’t be together then she wishes him happiness.  But at the same time she will always love him, gave him what he may have needed to know.  I think the traditional meaning of the song was meant for Rory and the lovey dovey part for Luke.  When you care for someone so much you want good things for them no matter the consequences.  It certainly cleared up any questions regarding her feelings which we were sort of left hanging (rightfully so) in the past few episodes.

I didn’t pick up on Lorelai’s face falling when Luke mentioned the boat trip.  I’ll have to re-watch.  Maybe a couple times before I’ll get it :D

Wow, a whole post about L/L.  Hmph.

I love that Rory reacted badly to a setback.  At first I was all, well it’s about dang time something didn’t go her way.  And I still think it’s good for her to be humbled.  But I think it’s great that she has now also been shown to fall back to old patterns when faced with disaster (which wasn’t even really total devastation type disaster).  Good catch, lessa.  Two peas in a pod, Rory and Logan.

Oh I forgot to ask you all...

What did everyone think of the look on Lorelai's face when Logan told her he wanted to marry Rory?? Did anyone else get a hint of "Crap- my daughter might get married and be successful at half my age" tone?

This is exactly what crossed my mind.  I am not sure if that’s all of what was behind her look or not.  I’m sure she thinks Rory isn’t ready based on the meltdown.  But am very interested to hear her response.

OMG guys this is want next weeks is about.

On the eve of Rory's (Alexis Bledel) graduation, Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Herrmann) throw her a party and perform a song in her honor. At the party, Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Christopher (David Sutcliffe) are reunited for the first time since their separation, and both are relieved to find they can still be friends. Logan (Matt Czuchry) surprises everyone at the party by proposing to Rory, but she is too shocked to give him an answer and begs Lorelai to help her decide what to do. On graduation day, Rory and Paris (Liza Weil) receive their diplomas, and Rory finally gives Logan her answer.

Meanwhile, Lorelai is embarrassed about her karaoke serenade to Luke (Scott Patterson) the night before, and Luke is hurt when he overhears her saying it didn't mean anything.

What it didnt mean anything. Of course it ment somthing. It ment somthing to luke.

ok, so it was not just me who thought that.  Yeah. There would have been any number of songs to use, but that one - is bittersweet and about unrequited love... hmm.

Other thought: Lorelai's face at the very end with Logan - i think it was a great bit of acting because it was open to interpretation - quite enigmatic - as if as an actor Lauren put about 100 different thoughts in her head, all swimming around - and that is what she portrayed on her face. It was deep in the tradition of Diane Keaton, who is a master at communitng several different emotions in a single shot of her.  That is real - how real people portray conflicting emotions.

L&L getting married is  a journey, not a destination. Lorelai treated Luke like dirt when she dumped him and "got over it" so fast, and she sort of left him in limbo during her marriage to Christopher. She was ready to take a shot at "sayonara, Luke" to save her marriage, but his feelings for her never seemed to enter into her calculations.

Now they are friends again, and she has realized that she will always love him. I bet that makes her nervous, because if he doesn't feel the same way, she will never marry again. This isn't the "not meant to be," "just move on" Lorelai that wrote Luke off over his hesitation. She pines now, and not only can she not imagine being with someone else, she's had a recent dose of the dangers of trying while her heart is with the one that got away.

Without Rory (I know, but with Rory married, their relationship would change) Lorelai is left completely alone, with no one to give her overabundance of love but Paul Anka and the army of cats that will show up sensing her love life is doomed. Living for Rory was her main gig, and there isn't much work for her at the inn (Michel and Sookie make a great team, him focusing on the storefront and her providing the goods.) I can imagine why she hoped to have a true love of her own before this came up.

It's too bad there's not time to deal with her "without a husband" issues before the "last" reconciliation. Then again, maybe there is. Is this nervous breakdown the beginning of Lorelai resenting Rory's success and happiness (in a "so they can finally have a normal mother-daughter 'ship" kind of way?) For all we know, that could be the very next issue at bat.

The previews for next episode get posted here (http://www.gilmoregirls.org/forum/index.php?topic=4356.0), gilmoregirls1fan.

I Will Always Love You is not a standard love song, perhaps, but it is a love song. It is bittersweet and that is where Luke & Lorelai find themselves right now. This is what should have progressed from their 'parting' instead of the marriage to NNS. JMO of course.

The heart of the message in the song to me has always been about truly loving someone - about wishing them the best that life has to offer and knowing that you will always love them, no matter what else happens.

Like most of the best moments of GG, it works on several levels and can have multiple meanings all at the same time.

I think that Luke wore the blue hat intentionally (a private admission that his friendship with Lorelai is back on track). The black one was WEDGED behind the dishwasher. Continuing to wear 'old blue' even after Zack returned the black one was an understated public acknowledgment that he prefers his life with Lorelai rather than without her.

So - what about Logan telling Rory he would "factor her in" - he goes to ask permission, without telling Rory - maybe a calculated political move, but isn't it a bit old fashioned for Rory, esp. since Logan basically said, "Let's not be old-fashion/traditional - i will factor YOU in - doesn't have to be the other way around" - is this planned proposal sort of gonna throw Rory for a loop? Is it counter to what he said before?  And will it been seen as him "rescuing the damsal in distress?"  Or what?  But - he loves her - and as a man he feels HE must be the one with a great career if it has to be between Rory and Logan - right? I think at least Logan is traditional enuf to believe that the man has to have a solid career before he proposes.  Thoughts?

Then again, that is what young men in love often do - they propose. It is emotional, and not necessarily a part of some plan, right?  My husband what was and i got married because we loved each other, and could not imagine being apart. And we were paying for two apartments, and that seemed silly. So we did the logical thing.  But before that, i almost never thought of marriage or of being "left alone" and so on. I was also intimidating to men, so i hardly dated and had resigned myself to "alone" - the marriage thing WAS logical for me, but of course i loved him.  I would not have married him otherwise. NOt sure where this is going for me but....  What about what Logan did?

NEXT IDEA.  We have been talking about pining away and about not being able to marry another person.  Well, some women can love more than one man. Heck, i used to do it all the time.  ;D  I don't mean i cheated, i mean i would easily fall in love with one man, then be in love with a different one while in his presense. I do believe i have identified my soul mate - and also, he will not be the primary man in my life - in fact i will probably hardly see him or talk to him anymore.  So, am i supposed to feel bad now? And give up and pine and not marry ever? (well, at my age, i guess i wouldn't but what if i was 35?)

So what are we saying here? Quoting lessa, "getting married is a journey, not a destination" i might have phrased that a little differently, but - having been married and divorced - i know less today about this than before.  And yet i have very decided views on marriage - and a young person might not even be able to follow those views - because they are too deep.  And older person could follow.  I am not gonna bore anyone here with my ideas.

If i look at that song, here is my interpretation: "Luke, even if our relationship is SNAFU-ed beyond all recognition (Oh, that's a FUBAR) i will always love you - and that is perfect - we have a perfect soul mate connection - and it does not even matter anymore what happens - because my energy loves your energy. So if you move or i stay single - it does not matter. You have "my" horoscope in your wallet - and no one will ever get closer to you - and deeper into your heart - than i will. And you wear my hat on your head, because no one will wrap themselves around your brain as i have. I have been the elusive one, but you tamed me - you did. So here is my song to declare that, in case you didn't know.  You belong to me, and i belong to you - well after the last fade out."
So, that is my adult interpretation of the song scene.

This thread is growing like mad.  When I got on at 6:45 a edt, it was already 6 pages.  Fun to see how everyone was so affected by this episode.

I have just one other thing to say.  When Miss Patty put her hand over her heart at the end of Lorelai's song, that said it all.

Seriously, if Logan does at some point in time ask Rory to marry him, I will cry, but not because I will be sad but because i will be very happy. Logan and Rory are perfect for each other. ;D

This really is my last thought today. (I keep saying that).

I guess an episode can't have everything.  I was disappointed in Richard and Emily.  Their reaction to Rory not getting the fellowship seemed a little bland.  Also, Kelly Bishop didn't look good, kind of puffy or something.  The catty side of me went "Yearh Richard you may have lost 11 pounds, Emily found it."

Yes, yes, I think all of the fabulous things about this episode. This season just keeps getting better and better. The fact that there are only 2 episodes left and with Luke and Lorelai, and Rory's future plans and apparent proposal, I am 99% confident in a season 8. There is no way they could end such a popular show in 2 episodes; it would be outrageous. I'm not even worried at this point.

I actually read through all the pages and I think I only have 2 comments that don't repeat others: I just want to say for once at least that getting married young is not the worst thing in the world; you can't choose at what age you happen to find that right person to share your life with. Did you know that it is possible to have a prosperous career AND be in a commited relationship AND be 23???  It's true. Maybe L&R don't need to get married right away, but I think it's admirable for Logan to want them to be engaged when they move to CA, and asking Lorelai first is a testament to the fact that Logan understands and respects Rory and Lorelai's relationship.

Also, I find it disheartening that Lorelai got rid of her Luke stuff. Isn't she the one who back in the day stashed Rory's 'Dean Box' in the closet with the 'Max Box' because she believed that you shouldn't get rid of that ex-boyfriend stuff because someday you're gonna want to go through it, etc.... I know that people change and stuff, but that seems like a character inconsistency...

umm...let's not forget that the song was intentionally meant for RORY, not Luke.  It was dedicated to Rory, and she sang it for her.  It just switched when Luke, whom in real life Lorelai would not have known was coming, showed up.  I don't think she was singing it to tell the town how she felt about Luke, she was singing it to simply say that she will always love Rory, it was just coincidence he showed up when he did.  It just changed from Rory to Luke WHEN he showed up.

OK--this is the biggest problem--Lorelai seems upset that she ended up singing to Luke last night.  She seems like she did not want to do that.  I wonder why she feels so bad, while the rest of us feel so great about it.  She wanted to reciprocate a gesture to Luke after he wore the blue hat--she mentioned going to the bar and he ACTUALLY DID show up!!  You would think that she might be a little anxious (like, eager) to find out what will happen next, but after "It's Just Like Riding a Bike", she was so happy to have her old Luke back.

What is up with that?  ???

I dont think L. was feeling bad, but rather it hit her she threw her heart out there for EVERYONE to see how much she still loves him. Rory is saying something to her the next morning,  about feeling better now that she has put things out in the open......and L. knows she did just that, in a song, in front of everyone, and she isn't sure where she stands wtih him.  She was so torn to pieces when they broke up (twice) she must be thinking...omg i put my heart out there again. Probably why there is a hint she tries to make it not so big next week.

THe song threw me off too as I thought is was sad love song, but she is saying her love is deep, and unconditional....and its still there. Even in that movie its in (name escapes me) with Kostner, they dont split they stay together, over come all the oddsl.  :hearts:

The look on Lorelai's face with Logan.....the shocking reality that her baby girl is all grown up......her whole life is her daughter and just as she was trying to say in her song that started out for Rory, hit home as reality when Logan asked her for permission.  Her baby girl going across the country permanently...OUCH.

It seems to me that for all of Lorelai's supposed JOURNEY this season, she is still not admitting the most obvious things to herself and really hasn't learned all that much yet about herself. She has been determined to get Luke and his friendship back into her life and though she admitted earlier that she still has feeling for Luke, I really believe that she refuses to admit to herself that she has undying feelings of love for him. I think she wanted to take thing slowly and see what happened if they became friends again. Then, BAM! she's singing a song to Rory and Luke walks in and it becomes all about him because she realizes in her slightly tipsy state that she does still love him, but she does not want to face that.

Why? Because she doesn't think he feels the same way? Because she doesn't know if it could ever work even if he does? I don't know. That's been the frustrating part of Lorelai this season. Even though I can pretty much read WHAT she is feeling, I don't have a clue what feelings she is hiding from or admitting to herself that she feels.

Rory and Logan still bore me. I just don't care one way or the other what happens to them. My favorite episodes are when Logan isn't on or is only on a very little.

It freaks me out a little that I've become a Zack fan. That only happened in the second half of this year! It has been great to have a return of the townies.

--

;D All the references to Whitney Houston relative to the song amuse me. To me, that song is ALWAYS and FOREVER linked solely to Dolly Parton. I have to be reminded that Whitney Houston did a re-make - an over the top and less sincere remake, IMO.

Man, there is so much in this episode that was great!!  They brought back Friday Night Dinners, and even though they didn't show the actually dinner, you knew it had some great moments...hello drinks.  This was such night, and I was excited to see Lane and the kids, and everything with Zach, thier whole scene was great, when she was talking about screaming on the inside.  I was cracking up.  (It was good I watched it by myself, I could laugh outloud and talk to the TV...hehe)  And the whole karoke thing with Babette and Miss Patty and Kirk!  That was great!  I loved the diner scene where Miss Patty and Babette were practicing (saving thier voices.)

With Rory, boy do I feel for her.  It sucks that she didn't get the fellowship, but I think that everything will end up working out better for her in the end.  I'm not sure exactly how I feel about the whole Logan proposing thing.  That really threw me for a loop...him going to Lorelai and asking for permission, I was in like totally shock.  Though it was a really cute moment.

Okay, now on to the meat of the show, Luke and Lorelai.  AH!!  Welcome back blue hat!  Welcome back!  It was so great to see that back on top of his head, man...happiness all over!  And there in the diner when she noticed, and she was like staring at his head, obviously full of questions...man!  And the fact that she was in the diner several times this episode, just like normal was great!  I'm so glad that they are finally talking again!  Okay, and the song...oh the song.  Because I am a spoiler junkie, I knew that she would be singing to him, but the looks and the tone and just everything was great.  And the look on Rory's face, she knew what they both were thinking.  Luke's smile was great, though, if I were him I would totally be confused thouugh estastic!!  I'm so happy to think of them finally working this crap out and getting back together.  It'd better happen.

And one more rant then I'm done, I swear!  The whole thing with April.  I know that many people are now contemplating the whole fact that Luke with invite Lorelai on the boating trip since April can't go, and I've been thinking about that...and i'm not so sure that'll happen.  What he said to Zach at the end, about how staying around for the summer wouldn't be so bad...I'm thinking he'll stay, and thier work on their relationship there at home.  They are just getting back together, they can't go off for some 6 week boating trip...unless...unless they decide to elope, but I'm not sure that'll happen.

Dear God, there had better be a season 8! :o

Oh boy... glad, some of you also mentioned they'd cried... I felt so stupid!!!

My thoughts:

* Last scene - I would say she's thinking "My little baby's really that grown up???"

* Singing scene - reminded me of the scene at Lane&Zack's wedding, where she also drank a little to much and then expressed her feelings over the mike. And felt bad for it the next morning. Both "expressing feelings" about Luke, right? Like she's ashamed of admitting all those feelings to herself???

* Do you really think she threw away ALL the Luke-stuff??? Even the earrings and the necklace (Liz')?? Because that's what I was thinking about when she talked to Sookie about answering the blue cap.

Now, I'm gonna re-watch...  ;) ;) ;)

WOW WOW  WOW

♥ Logan asking L's permission to marry Rory was very grand, and he's been so helpful and supportive while Rory was recieveing those hateful letters of rejection. Also Lorelai trying to cheer her up by singing really helped, LOL but i think when luke walked in it turned into a song not just for rory but for luke also. Luke's beend own since April bailed out on him and its so sad to see.
But congrats to april! Congrats congrats!

The blue cap was definitely a sign of healing and they are definitely becoming more friendly- i mean lorelai walked into LUke's without choking, and the kirk singing was definitely a +. LOL.

Well we FINALLY SAW lane's babys. theyre so cute!

Thoughts?

I guess I can talk about the proposal a little.  It annoys me that they seem to have forgotten the factoring in conversation, since I think it's too easy to take two contradictory actions of Logan and see the one that could be considered negative as the "true" Logan.  But, I don't even think they meant it to be seen as negative (not that it means others won't be able to find negativity in it and in Logan's characterization).  Regardless of what Lorelai's answer is to him asking permission, we got a bona fide, out loud, approval of Logan from Lorelai.   Just in case people missed the stamp of approval -with pie!- a couple of episodes ago.  So, the intent is to see Logan as a good guy who cares about Rory and Lorelai seeing that.  But, are they shooting themselves in the foot by having Logan do a 180 as far as factoring?  And, I hope they don't mean to imply that Logan is thinking in terms of only one of them having a career.  You mean he feels in order to propose it's best that he has a career. You don't mean that he feels that Rory shouldn't have a career or that as a man him having a career is more important than Rory having one?  I don't think Logan, who has always been supportive of Rory's ambitions is "traditional" (or in my word, sexist) in that manner.  Saying he doesn't want to propose until he has something to offer is one thing.  It's admirable.  It doesn't say anything about Rory not achieving her dreams.  Saying it has to be a choice between him having a career or Rory having one, and that it would naturally come down to his career being more important just doesn't sound right.  So, did I misread this?

Now, two more thoughts after re-watching 19&20:

* I'm missing the "gilmorism" and the "speed-talking". Just me???

* I'm wondering.... Did you ever recognize that there are two ways into the hall/living room when entering Lorelai's house through the front door??? I just remember the way to the living room and THEN to the hall/kitchen/and so on. But when Lorelai opened the door for Sookie & Jackson (epi 19), she went through the arch on one side (directly from the hall!) and then S&J through the other (living room)!!!! Was this always like that??? Was I sleeping???

Confused. Help, please!!!

Yes, its always been like that, the episode that comes to mind from earlier years is the one where Richard's mother wants to see Lorelai's house, and they follow her all around, and she goes from the kitchen/hallway to the opening by the door.  Sorry, I can't think of the name of the episode though!

I was reading all the comments on here and I was wondering, did they actually show Luke looking for his hat and finding the one Lorelai gave him?  Because I can't figure out how I missed it if they did.

Nope they never showed that, it was supposed to seem as if he did it as a gesture to Lorelai but at first it was just beacuse he lost the black one, but then he found it and kept the blue.
Ah yes, the earrings and necklace from Liz! If she hadn't thrown them away they would be the perfect gesture in return.

I don't understand why people think that Logan saying he'd "factor her in" clashes with him asking Lorelai to marry Rory.  Isn't it possible that he was planning to ask her the whole time, and was just saying things to Rory that wouldn't give it away?  I think I might be missing a few things, though, and please, someone explain in detail...

Wow, good catch.  I can see it on the screencap!  I thought it was just a rental.

I don't know about Logan and the "factor me in" thing, but maybe he thought at the time, he had no job, he could go where she goes.  But then when he had the offer in SF, he made the decision? I don't think there is anything wrong with that, knowing he'd have to move to SF and not knowing where Rory was going might have made him realize he didn't want to be apart from her.

Honestly, the way the writers have gone with this season and made Lorelai's story so much more prominent than Rory's, I no longer have any interest in Rory and Logan, or Rory in general. Tar and feather me if you will, but I think her character is now boring, they've written it so that Lorelai is the main character and Rory is just there. This prevents me from caring. So I don't care what happens with Rory and Logan. Really.
Now you can impale me. :)
I was just watching the scene where she sings to Luke again, and wow. Luke is almost crying! He has to duck his head down and steady himself and then plaster this "I'm totally okay" look on his face. Same with Lorelai, except she doesn't hide it - she really is almost crying. :( Sad.
I NEED THEM TOGETHER. NOW.
Nice catch with the car. So I guess she's just driving that until she gets her new one. I saw the car in the spoiler pictures but didn't put 2 and 2 together. :)

I have yet to read much of this thread as I only just saw the episode a few hours ago.  Just wanted to share the bit that I caught that I loved so much.  Lane and Zach and the baby scenes were great.  Good to see Lane back.  But the clincher that sold me......the tune that the baby mobile was playing.  Boys Dont Cry by The Cure.  So very Gilmore!

Outstanding episode!  There was so much to love and my only hope is that we do get a season 8 to continue the awesome story arcs that can stem from this point.

So, you'd say it's due to the writing? Having in mind that AB might not be interested in carrying on with the show I couldn't stop thinking "Wow, she acts as if she doesn't care for that character at all any more" while watching the last epis, I just focused (Never again can use this word without thinking "I'm a camera"  ;) ;) ;) ) on Lorelai, too. I'm curious how it will turn out in S8. (YES, there will be one. Has to be. I'm not going to doubt it anymore!!!).

Sigh, so many spoilers in this thread..I thought these threads were intended for discussion of the current episode not the preview or the final or any of the other 50 things I had to deliberately skip (and even then I accidentally read some spoilers). So annoying.

I think that people get overly excited and forget.  I've done it a time or two. I did post a note a few pages back about the spoiler talk.

I agree with everything you said, especially about Rory and Logan...their story line is just not important to me anymore.  I'm much more enthralled with Lorelai and Luke and dear god, them getting back together, after an agonizing year.  Though I am still partially interested in Rory's story, I tend to zone easier until Lorelai's back on the screen.  Is that horriible?

Billie: I didn't think of that, but that's probably part of it too, she really does seem not to care. Then again, AB doesn't write the lines, and her scenes are much shorter and definitely less significant than that of Lorelai's.

ObsessedwithGG: Not horrible at all, same thing happens to me, LOL.

Think back to the first season. We had an equal storyline with both Lorelai and Rory, and maybe even more with Rory. In the fifth and sixth seasons it was more equal, but now it's definitely Lorelai most of the time. And even if there is more Rory, it just seems so insignificant. Then again, Billie is right - compare Partings to The Long Morrow. Her acting just changes, and gets worse as it goes on. Now it's like every line is a duty. Ugh.

Just let me get this out, I don't care if Rory and Logan get engaged or married. I just want Rory to be happy. It's not like I think her storyline is boring, I just want her to be happy. The dream was weird. At first I thought I was on the wrong channel.

I was really happy to finally see the babies. I knew though that they couldn't go on the tour. I'm happy for Zach too.

Kirk, Miss Patty and Banette were funny. I loved when Lorelai sang. I was so happy.

OK so i rewatched the scene at the karioki place about 14 times.  It puts me to tears. Wow. Directed at Luke. Lorelai singing was so.....real. She got so emotional when Luke came in it was so sad. You caould actually tell from the expression on Lukes face that he somehow just knew it was directed at him...no surprises. I was like...how would he know that? Rory had a conserned expression like she knew Lorelai was singing to him but in the morning she said it really cheered her up that her mom sang to herrrr--was she just trying to make Lorelai feel better by making her think people didnt know that it was intended for luke? This had to be one of my favorite scenes from all the episodes from Gilmore Girls!

DANI257 - no, i am not trying to make this sexist - not at all. I am addressing a man's desire to be "worthy" of his bride. RE: red statement - No, i don't mean that.

SEE UNPOPULAR THREAD - Dani257, my answer got way long, way controversial, way depressing, and way - just WAY -so it is in UNPOPULAR THREAD for the STRONG OF HEART and you ( i mean ALL of you) cannot throw tomatos at me cuz it is in UNPOPULAR THREAD.  Na na na na na...  ;D (how do you spell tomatoes?)

i will wait a while and then blow that post away - it just is not something i want out there forever. Thanks.

Yeah... I know... it was so sad when she was singing. You could even tell by her facial reactions when Luke walked in, that the ending was going to be sad. A soon as she realized that he was there, I was 100% sure that she was talking about her and Luke. i was sooo sad, because I think that it is over for them. Why though??? They were so perfect and from the first episode, they had things for each other. I am sooo sad. I never liked Christopher, but i think that they are going to get back together. :'(

(lol) and Logan asking Lorelai's permission was sweet and a little bit funny to me b/c I know that Rory is gonna say no b/c she isn't gonna want to go all the way to California for one and I it doesn't really feel right......Now if it was Jess proposing I would be like SAY YES DANG YOU!!!! and of course she would b/c who can say no to Jess!!!

A year ago I thought that GG was over, done, kaput.  I didn't think there was a chance in a million that the show could be saved.
It had turned into a pathetic soap opera and had clearly, and I thought, permanently, lost its way.

Today, I stand corrected.

Last night's espisode was just about as perfect as any of the "old" episodes ever were.  It well written and acted.  It brought back the community
and the characters and the heart and the soul of what made this show great.  Not afraid to admit that L's song made me tear up.

Brilliant! Bravo!

I like to think of it as a postmodern Shakespearean comedy told in a contemporary language of pop culture metaphors. Potayto potahto.

I agree that Logan's proposal may not be intended as a rescue from working. But there's just something about the way he smiled and said "soon it will all be over" when she told him of her employment woes that makes me think they haven't had "the talk" about her not being ready to make career sacrifices.

That doesn't mean he's a chauvinist pig, though. He'll be made to look that way until he produces some progressive Logan-esque solution out of his hat that makes it a non-issue. Like maybe he plans to build his new ground-level e-zine by hiring her as a writer and rising in the company with her as a team, to one day take responsibility for it together.

To people who are wondering why Lorelai was driving an SUV, if you look carefully at the middle window you can see Dragonfly Inn on it. It is hard to see with the glare on this screenshot, but as I watched it last night I caught it.

Really great catch but If she had access to the van, why would she have been riding around on that ridiculous bicycle? (I know, I know, the amusing possibilities for the script, but still...)
Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?

I DO NOT think that we need to worry about Zach's groupies as much as BRIAN being the perfect surrogate DAD for the twins when Zach is gone!!  Why else would they show him being so "in touch" and helpful with the babies?

Because it showed that she has a support system at home that she could not possibly have on a tour bus and it helped her make the decision to stay home.

As for the episode itself, I thought it was really good. My interpretation of the hat thing is that it was a double whammy: first, Lorelai thinks it's a gesture, then we find out it wasn't really a gesture but just because he lost his black hat, then he deliberately chooses the blue one over the black one. I think it was supposed to be more subtle and an indicator of his feelings after the karaoke rather than showing that he deliberately shoved the black one behind the dishwasher .

The karaoke choice of song to fit both Rory (to whom she dedicated it before she started singing) and Luke coming in was brilliant. As everyone else has noted, the fact that Lauren can carry a tune that well surprised me. (You could hear that Liz Torres has a good voice too even through the comic effect she was supposed to be having.)

And Kirk usually annoys me but seeing him do karaoke was almost worth all the previous annoyances :->

To everyone freaking out there: I am willing to bet that Rory does *not* marry Logan. I don't see her getting married and meekly following her man before she's had a chance to prove herself in her career. Remember that she was going to take the Reston scholarship in NYC no matter what Logan was going to do and I don't think that the fact that she is at a crisis point is going to change her determination to show her stuff. (My personal opinion is that Logan is ultimately too self-involved and immature for her although I concede that he does love her, which I used to doubt. He's gotten better but I still don't think he's a good match for her idealism and I think if it came down to the crunch, he would always think of himself first.)

As for those of you who think that Lorelai's first reaction to Logan's proposal would be that Rory's going to be happier and more successful at an earlier age than she was, I think you are way too cynical for words.  Maybe her 10th or 11th thought later might be tinged with that but not her immediate reaction. A reaction like that would negate the whole mother/daughter relationship that the show is about.

I think the SUV does have the dragonfly logo on it but I bet we see her jeep again....... :o

Now, I hate to say I told you so but I remember how everyone bashed DR at the beginning of the year and longed for AmySP.  I kept saying she wrote the story last year into that corner and given time DR would turn it around. Well, he did it and it  was so utterly amazing. This will be one of my favourite episodes.  I knew in time it would happen. All those who hated GG at the beginning of this year (and some said they would never watch it again) have to take back their words.

So, now I get to say it...........I told you so, DR just needed some time.  ;D ;)
Now, just give the man an 8th season to write......please, we have all waited patiently for L&L.

Meant to post last night, but it didn't happen.  I loved, loved, loved this episode.  Didn't think I could enjoy one more than last week, and then there it was  :hearts:
*The opening dream was hilarious, a classic anxiety dream.  Rory's worst nightmare--being kicked out of school, her mom leaving, and Doyle and Paris taking over her home.  I loved the Chilton flashback, the 2007 Rory in a Chilton uniform with the original headmaster back!  Interesting that Logan didn't figure in her anxiety dream, does that mean he's not as central to her life as we think ???
*The hat--I thought Luke did it on purpose, put the blue hat back on, and Lorelei did too.  Was so cute her talking to Sookie about this as a big gesture and how should she reciprocate.  So adorable!  And then we see that it had nothing to do with Lorelei, he just lost his other hat, but then he decides to keep wearing it --his hope is re-ignited for sure.
*As others have said, Zack is one of the funniest characters on the show right now.  Loved him in the diner, he and Lane talking about the upcoming tour, and him trying to be a buddy to Luke--poor Luke doesn't seem like he wants a buddy, but he has one now.
*Lane--amazing.  I guess given the organization she has shown in the past (as in marshalling the band, managing their money) it shouldn't be surprising she'd be such a together mom, but it did surprise me a bit.  I suppose thats as we didn't see her and the twins in the first few weeks/months while the adjustments were figured out.
*Rory-I loved the part where she was in her old bed at home, covers over her head.  I think we've all felt that way sometimes, or we wish we could just disappear under the covers for a while.  --Made me think Lorelei was right to be concerned with Christopher's blase plan to get rid of Rory's room for Gigi.  Everyone needs a place to retreat to, and Rory's not totally grown up yet.  And I liked that unlike the Mitchum incident, she got over it fairly fast--a good dose of comfort food, SH, and shopping and off she marches back to Yale.
*Babbette and Miss Patty--very funny, they can't sing a lick, but they brought the town together for a festive outing. And Kirk--couldn't help thinking about the recent Boy George scandel while he was singing, although I know this epi was taped before it happened.  Don't know if it would have changed the choice of song though, but I found it a bit weird, even for Kirk.
*And the Lorelei song--the best.  I loved that she didn't plan it for Luke, didn't know even that he was coming (when she mentioned it in the diner -implying he might want to go- he said it wasn't his thing, but Zack encouraged him to come and he did --probably to see Lorelei methinks) and so it starts out funny, a bit of a parody to make Rory laugh and then it all changed when Luke came in.  I started crying, and I've never cried during  a GG episode.  It was the best.  She didn't seem to feel so good about it in the morning, rather raw I think --wonder if she didn't really know that was all in there before the moment.

Final thought --I can't believe it may all end in two episodes --there has to be a Season 8!!!!
Keeping the Faith --willow

P.S. Woke up today with "I will always love you" in my head --with Dolly singing it, instead of Lauren.  Its been in my head all day -ear worms ARGH  >:(

I've been trying to think who Lorelai reminded me of at the beginning of the song and I finally got it, it was a lot like Rene Zellweger in Bridget Jones Diary (might have been the second one).  There was something about the face and the gestures that sparked something in my head, and that is what it was! I don't even remember if Bridget Jones sings in one of those movies but I know that is who Lauren reminded me of.

I loved last night's episode, however I became VERY worried when the scenes from the next showed Logan proposing to Rory. Don't get me wrong.. I LOVE Logan and Rory together- BUT if he proposes to her in front of EVERYONE I fear she will say no because Rory is MUCH more private than that. She is the type that would prefer a proposal just between the couple. I think she will stare at Logan in shock and make a quick escape out the back door!

Wikipedia to the rescue, as they explain it more succinctly than I could:
Quote
A blue book exam is a type of test administered at many schools, where a professor gives an essay topic, which the student must write about during the exam period. Generally, the teacher will give advance warning on the possible essay topics and will then choose one, or let the student choose from the available ones on which topic to write about. Blue books typically contain several sheets of wide-ruled notebook paper and have the words "Blue Book" across the front. They can generally be purchased for much less than $1, usually around 25 cents.

Yes, she should have handed in the sheets she brought home but not doing so doesn't mean she has to take the exam again. She said that it was only the last blue book so she had presumably filled previous ones in and submitted them. These are only used for essay questions so it just means that her essay was not finished.

Wow, quick response, thank you!!!! (Never occurred me to ask WP for a GG-related question...  ;) ;) ;) )

Strange system, though. As far as I know in Austria you are not allowed to take ANY notes back home, you have to hand in ANYthing you've written during an exam otherwise it's not valid.

Good for Rory!!!

Not sure I understand what you're saying here: it's an essay test so how would the professor know that she had written any more than what she turned in? You can get as many blue books as you need to finish your thoughts but obviously the number that is needed varies depending on how much the student wants to say (and how big the handwriting is :-> ) And why would however much she'd written so far not count toward the exam?
Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?
Post by: Billie on May 03, 2007, 01:13:38 am
Well, here you'd get all the sheets for an exam from the prof, they are marked and counted, and you are not allowed to use any additional paper, even just for thoughts or notes. If you need more sheets you just ask for more during the exam. Then you are handing in everything - the whole essay AND all the notes you've written down while considering what to write in the "official" essay. The additional notes don't count for the mark you get, though, but every single paper has to be returned, even blank ones.

Sorry if I cannot express/explain better.

Anyway, glad the system in the US is different and Rory made it, yeeeaaa!!
(I was just like "Ohhhh..... she "stole" some of the official papers, now she failed the exam!!!"....)

Maybe Logan was not in her anxiety dream becuase Rory is not worried about him. Maybe she feels like their relationship is goiong great and she has nothing to worry about there. Its a good thing.

Title: Re: 7.20 - Lorelai? Lorelai?

Well, sort of. Lorelai was the first to point out that as an adult, Rory had the skills to start solving her own problems. Like with Rory's study tree for example, when Lorelai had to forcibly prevent her running home in despair over the fact that her roommates were too noisy.

But the dream probably had less to do with their relationship and more to do with the fact that, internally, going back home because she couldn't find a job seemed like a selfish and nonconstructive thing to do, no matter how fun and germane to the plot it would be.

I think that Rory isn't attracted to Logan so much as so she would say YES infront of a lot of people. She is very shy and don't like alot of people in a group.

willowsprite-

Maybe Logan was not in her anxiety dream becuase Rory is not worried about him. Maybe she feels like their relationship is goiong great and she has nothing to worry about there. Its a good thing.

Possible--but I think the dream went to the core of where her sense of stability comes from, her mom, school, and her home in SH.  Logan is undoubtably very important in her life, but not essential, not yet.

Yeah, I think her dream was that she was afraid all her stability is slipping away from her. I loved Lorelai and the Hawaii thing. Really funny.
AB cannot pull of high school anymore though, which will sadly limit her choices in a movie career. Which is what she has now. Because it's all HER fault there's no eighth season.
I HATE THE STUPID DECIDING PEOPLE.

Now wait a minute, I know this is a bad time for all of us, but Please don't let's hate AB for this. Mistakes were made, people were stupid and predictions went awry, but this whole thing started long before AB announced herself out.

I really thought it was a good episode.  I remembering  wondering what would happen after college and that all my plans would fall apart.  Loved Lorelai singing-thought it was a very moving scene.  You could feel the emotions come for her heart.  It was fantastic seeing Miss Patty, Babette, Gypsy, Lulu and Kirk.  We got to see Steve and Kwan (well sorta of) the best part was seeing Lane in action as a mommy.  I had to laugh at the earlier scene was she was telling Zach how happy she was for him with his new gig.  I know this post is all over the place but youngest girl is asking me all kinds of questions and I'm still taking in the news that the show is ending.

OMG. Lorelai is AMAZING! That was so sad... I started crying. Luke was smiling, too! THIS IS A GOOD THING FOR US JJ
s! Ahhhhh she is SUCH a good singer and the song had so much meaning. It was perfect. <3

Had to say that. =)
I thought he looked kind of sad at the end of the song though because I took it as she was singing it to Rory but he heard it and misunderstood that she wanted him to go his separate way.   :(

I like your interpretation better though!  :)  She did sing very well!  I didn't know she could sing! :)  I love Luke and Lorelai.  Let's hope they at least start to get back together in these last two eppys.   :)

Oh and everybody watch the last two eppys so that we can get majorly high ratings!  That's what the 7th Heaven people did and they got another season!  :)

I liked this episode, but I kinda got scared when Logan asked Lorelai for permission. I really had hope that Rory was gonna end up with Jess. And I think that if Rory says yes, then it's going to be nono for season 8. I mean, kinda like all series end with weddings. I feel like this wedding would be just a sign that they want to end things... I kinda hope that she says no to Logan, moves to New York, meets Jess and they get to start over...Only that the guy who was playing Jess is to busy with heroes by now... *snif* *snif*

So much shock over Lauren Graham's underused pipes! It hasn't been that long since everyone on TV could sing and dance, has it? Am I the only person who finds it completely unsurprising that a stage performer can actually perform?

I buy that when Lorelai was repeating the supermarket scene, (in which Luke said they were wrong for each other and they should give up) that she wouldn't leave off the "I still love you" part. And it seems to make a world of difference.

There is almost no chance Luke will be at the Emily/Richard graduation party. He and Lorelai only just started talking again and he isn't a member of their world. Plus he'll be at the Stars Hollow graduation party so there's no reason for him to go to it.

He is in the episode though. Apparently he overhears a conversation between Lorelai and Sookie that upsets him.

Except - now I'm backtracking. That's from dating/pre-dating, and she wanted something from friends.
Um...a Barbie bandaid? A can of paint?
Maybe she really should just throw on a flannel shirt.

No, unless your head is in between the wall and dishwasher and go to pull it out and it comes off or if it's on the floor and someone kicks it behind there you WON'T be able to lose it that way. He purposely hid it back there in hopes that no one would EVER find it just so he could put the blue one back on again.

Then why have Zach find it at all? I'm going with he lost it, and also that he probably didn't figure out why she was staring at his head until Zach reminded him he was wearing a different cap, then put together that she was responding to it in hindsight.

I mean, come on, this is Luke. He's not gonna know in advance she would feel so strongly about him wearing "her" cap. And if memory serves, he sticks his head between the wall and the dishwasher on a fairly regular basis.

I just watched the karaoke scene again for the umpteenth-time and I can't get over how good it is.  Lauren Graham, as beautiful as ever, does such a great job in the scene.  I was moved that I had to find a forum to read what other people thought of the scene.  I also wanted to post my own viewpoint:

Lorelai gets up there at Rory's request to goof-off a little and cheer Rory up - a fun, light-hearted, silly serenade.  But once Luke walked in, I felt for her instantly.  Suddenly, it wasn't so funny any more and every word now had _meaning_.  She was trapped - she irresistibly shifted focus to him and I could see her hear herself as she sang the words, unintentionally dripping with emotion - the lyrics forcing her to say things to Luke that she hadn't come to terms with herself, let alone admit them aloud to Luke.  I could almost see her struggle internally when she hit the first "I will always love you".  To anyone else, Lorelai could have simply sang the words "I will always love you" with little serious emotion attached, but with Luke, the words betrayed her - it was quite apparent there was no way to say those words aloud without the full latent emotional context shining through.  But by the end, she had resigned herself to the situation and let the lyrics carry the emotion.  And then she shrugs afterwards, as if to say "I'm sorry I couldn't keep up the pretense".  (Don't worry Lorlelai, I doubt Luke would have fared any better if the situation had been reversed.)

But then its over and the pretense will no doubt be back.  Rory makes no reference to it in the morning: did she really not notice what happened? or did she simply pretend as if she didn't notice because she thought her mother wouldn't want to talk about it?  I don't know what to make of that.

Kudos to the writing for such a powerful scene and also to Lauren Graham for executing it perfectly.

BTW, as for the lost hat:

I think it was genuinely lost.  L & L are doing a little dance trying to interpret each other and act accordingly.  Sometimes, they're gonna get it wrong (Luke wasn't initially making a gesture like Lorlelai thinks).  But geez, forget the hat - the guy searched Craig's list for a compatible jeep (no small feat for Luke), checked its history, test drove it, negotiated the terms, and then checked the Gypsy about the work - all so she could keep her Jeep.  And she thinks the hat might be saying something?

No, Rory definitely notices what happened because you can see her turn and look at Luke and then look back at Lorelai with a worried look on her face.  I think the next morning thing really was because Rory knows Lorelai.

Like I said earlier, he probably didn't think anyone would find it. It might have been that he was just doing it to be friendly then when Zach found it AFTER the song he purposely didn't put it back on.

Since when has he stuck his head behind a dishwasher? Have I just been missing this part, because I've NEVER seen him do that? I've seen a stove and never seen him lose his hat doing that?

Or maybe they're just trying to be friends again and he didn't want her to have no car and only ride around on a bicycle all the time.

Well, I would guess that Rory knows how Lorelai feels about Luke, and could see what it was doing to Lorelai as she sang to him.  I think it was a bit more than Lorelai wanted to reveal, right there in front of everyone, even though everyone already KNOWS she loves Luke.

She might have been a little concerned about everyone knowing because it would place pressure on them when they've only just started talking again. Now she'll be wondering whether if she reveals how she feels, it'll ruin the progress they've made so far and ultimately their friendship again.

i think it's possible that he lost the black hat unintentionally. and then he was like "what do i do now? do i buy a new hat or do i wear one of my old ones?" and he chose the one lorelai gave him! i don't think it matters so much if he really did lose it or if he hid it because either way he put on the blue hat afterwards. and either way it's a nice gesture.

I was home sick today, so I watched the episode again...it was only the like millionth time I've seen it, and frankly, I loved it all over again.  I'm a huge JJ fan, so the fact that Lorelai finally "opened" up about her feelings was great.  I think, (my opionon only) that Rory knew her mom was singing to Luke, and was trying to not make it such a big deal that next morning.  Trying to make her mom feel better is what Rory is known best for.  It was great to see the look in Lorelai's eyes when her and Rory were talking.  I can't wait to see some more great JJ scenes.  I hope we get one tonight!

I loved the karaoke scene in this episode. I know this has been said a few times.  But I love Lauren's voice.  Have you heard that she is thinking of doing a musical?

It was the most romantic scene between Lorelai and Luke. The fierst time I saw the karokee part I wanted to cry. I agree that Lorelai's gestures are really cute. My favorite is when she is done with the song, she gives a small shrug towards luke. Just letting you people know that Luke did lose the hat on purpose but caesar found it.

Ok, i dont kno if anyone else has said anything about this, but in this episode, Lorelai pulls up to her house in a blue SUV.....so this has been bothering me for a while. And today I was watching this episode again and i noticed something that figured out the whole thing!!! Its the dragonfly's car because on the windows, it had the Dragonfly Inn's logo on the side.....so finally i can sleep in peace at night!! lol Ohhh yea and i think that song was beautiful, and i love how it was supposed to be for Rory, but Luke comes in and it changes over to being for him!!! Im sorry but i really love Luke and Lorelai together...as i think we all do!!!

i didnt exactley cry...lol but i thought it was a semi happy/sad moment. because she was letting out all thoes feelings in just one song that was perfect for both her and luke. so i guess u can say i cried but only because i knew that it was going to be ending soon and it was just a excellent scene!!!

I cried. But it's wasn't a sad cry. It was definately a happy cry. I also felt totally embrassed for Lorelai. I know I would be embarrassed if I was singing Dolly Parton's 'I Will Always Love You' to my ex-fiancee.

I've watched it again to today, my eyes teared up. Specially when Luke is fighting his emotions. To me it looks like Lorelai is singing it to Luke, i love that moment. They should be together, forever. This tuesday they will show that last episode of GG in here Holland. I already feel heart broken about it. Feels like ending an relationship

The Whitney Houston recording of "I Will Always Love You" was such a huge hit that many people forgot or never realized it was originally written and recorded by Dolly Parton.

I wouldn't mind an official release of the Lorelai/Lauren rendition!

I found this interview with Dolly Parton on that very topic. She says Elvis' manager insisted that Dolly split the royalties with him, which she would not do. Why would she? She wrote the song and had already released it as a big country hit. I'm glad she said no to Elvis and his sleaze-oid manager.

wow that's amazing that you could find that!
I'm so proud of Dolly Parton haha
I don't know why Whitney Hueston or whatever sang it
but it was the perfect song for Lorelai to sing to Luke I must say
even though I'm a little biased =)

I saw her on the Ellen show, where she played some rudimentary piano and sang along to a little song she wrote for Ellen. It was great fun!

I hate the song "I Will Always Love U" because of how they played it TO DEATH, when Whitney Houston covered it.

However, did enjoy LG's stab at it very much.

So how about that Logan huh, Lorealai looked like she had been GUT PUNCHED.

The plot thickens.....

This is an excellent episode.  That opening scene of Rory at Chilton.  Whoa!  It's weird seeing her in a Chilton uniform with her current hairstyle.  Then she's kicked out.  Lorelai decides to go to Hawaii and then we see the McMasters.  Doyle and Paris with their kids.  Aw, they kinda look like a cute family together and then wow.  Poor Rory.  Getting no opportunities and all that stuff.

Luke is wearing the blue hat again.  Oh, thank God.  I hate the black hat and I think he and Lorelai are starting to get a bit comfortable again in just being friends.  He was taking her advice on the boat trip and he felt grateful for it.  Then April called with some news about a science camp and I kinda feel sorry for her.  On the one hand, she is given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something very prestigious and then, that would mean no boat trip with her dad and she probably felt bad about it.  I think once Luke said that she can go and do the trip another time and they said "I love you" to each other shows how close they are when just a year-and-a-half ago, they just knew about each other.

I liked the stuff with Lane and Zach.  Sucks Lane won't go on tour but Zach at least is going on tour for 2 months for more than one reason.  At least he gets to play and get some experience while making money for his family.  Hep Alien will rock on again soon (and they do as of Virtual Season 9 where they score a record deal and make a record).

The karaoke scene was great.  Patti and Babette were a hoot though Kirk did an OK job with the Culture Club song.  Yet, it was Lorelai and whoa... Lauren Graham can sing.  I was surprised at how straightforward it was and it started off lighthearted but once Luke came in.  Wow, it got dusty.  I think he got a little emotional because despite all that had happened.  She still loves him.  I think it caught her by surprise and she's just trying to digest all of this.  I think when Zach found the black hat and gave it to Luke.  I think he sees it as a reminder of a dark period and maybe kept it as some part of a memory as he's now becoming comfortable in wearing the blue hat.  Then again, he probably got rid of the black hat later on or kept in case something goes wrong with him and Lorelai.

That last scene with Logan was wow.  He wants to marry Rory and Lorelai is stunned.
