Picking up on the same night as last season's finale, Lorelai and Luke begin making plans for their future, but Luke is embarrassed when word spreads that Lorelai was the one who proposed. Still hurt over Rory's decision to drop out of Yale and move in with Emily and Richard, Lorelai tells her parents that they can take care of Rory from now on.

Rory and Logan ask Lorelai and Luke to celebrate Valentine's Day with them on a weekend at the Huntzberger's house on Martha's Vineyard. Rory and Logan have a wonderful time, but Lorelai is upset by Luke's unfriendly attitude toward Logan. Luke realizes he forgot to get a Valentine's gift for Lorelai and Logan helps bail him out.

Lorelai and Christopher attend a journalism panel at Yale where Rory dazzles the crowd. Afterwards, Lorelai offers to help Christopher by babysitting his daughter and is horrified by her behavior. The next day, Rory and Logan attend the wedding of Logan's sister, where Rory is devastated to learn how Logan spent his time during their breakup. Elsewhere, Lane posts a flier looking for a new band and Zach gets emotional as a result.

Lorelai has a bizarre dream in which singer Paul Anka has a cameo role. Meanwhile, Logan is miserable knowing that Rory hasn't really forgiven him. Rory accepts Jess' invitation to attend an open house at his publishing house in Philadelphia. While there, she is surprised to run into Luke, who is accompanying April on a field trip. In Stars Hollow, Lorelai is horrified to find that Richard and Emily have been looking at real estate nearby.

On the night before Lane and Zach get married, Lorelai and Rory's plans for a bachelorette party go awry, as do the plans made by Zach's buddies. Mrs. Kim informs Lorelai that she cannot attend Lane's wedding without an escort. Since Luke is still out of town, Lorelai invites Christopher. Everyone attends two wedding ceremonies, one Buddhist and one Seventh Day Adventist, followed by a wild reception.

Stars Hollow becomes overrun troubadours. Mitchum and Rory have a confutation about Logan’s going to London, in which Rory sees Mitchum's point of view. As a result, she throws Logan a wild going away party that is followed with a tearful goodbye. At Friday night dinner Chris is set up with a psychiatrist who ends up counseling Lorelai about Luke and makes her take drastic action; leaving Luke with an ultimatum and surprising consequences involving Chris.
