Gilmore Girls Troubadour, 03.19.01 ...
Who is that, guitar in hand and harmonicaddy strapped to his neck,
wandering the streets of Stars Hollow, the fictional town where the
WB's Gilmore Girls takes place? Why, it's Grant Lee Phillips. Though
Phillips, whose band Grant Lee Buffalo used to be on a Warner label,
is no longer making music for the Frog's record company, he seems to
be enjoying his time on set and has nice words for the show, which he
refers to on his Web site as "a smart new drama."
Phillips writes that
the Gilmore call came out of the blue, but that being on TV has always
been a big dream. "It's sort of a cartoon version of myself," he
writes. "At least that's what I've told myself. Come to think of it, I
show up on the set wearing my own clothes and then I sing my own
songs... let's call it a selfish version of my own cartoon.
Whatever
you wanna' call it, this is the most fun I've had at 6:30 a.m. in a
long while." Fortunately for Phillips, not having a background in
acting isn't proving to be much of an obstacle. "The script actually
refers to me as 'Grant' so I don't have to stretch too much to get
into character."
