Alexis Bledel in Tuck, 03.04.01 ...

Film rookie Bledel's 'Tuck' role is one for the ageless.

Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls") is in negotiations to make her feature film debut in the lead role of the Walt Disney Co.'s "Tuck Everlasting," a Beacon Communications production to be directed by Jay Russell ("My Dog Skip"). William Hurt also has been signed for a role in the project, which is scheduled to begin production next month in Baltimore. Bledel made her acting debut in "Gilmore," the WB Network series that debuted in the fall. In "Tuck," she will play a 10-year-old who discovers that a neighboring family, the Tucks, has a spring whose water prevents one from aging.

Hurt will play the patriarch of the Tuck family. Ben Kingsley has signed to play a stranger who discovers the family's secret (HR 2/20). The film is based on Natalie Babbitt's critically acclaimed 1975 children's book of the same name. Jane Startz ("The Mighty") of Jane Startz Prods. and Beacon president Marc Abraham are producing the project, with Beacon chairman and CEO Armyan Bernstein, chief operating officer Thomas Bliss and former Beacon executive Max Wong executive producing. Wong brought the project into the company.

"Tuck" is being overseen at Disney by director of production Douglas Short and Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group vp Karen Glass. Bledel is repped by the Gersh Agency and managed by Flutie Management in New York. Hurt, repped by WMA, next will appear in Warner Bros.' upcoming "A.I." directed by Steven Spielberg. "A.I." was a pet project of Stanley Kubrick. (Greg Hernandez)
