This quiet period doesn't seem right at all.  Oh, I saw a clip on E! News (I don't know why I watch it) but they were talking to Lauren and Dax Shepherd interrupted and was going nuts over the fact that Lauren mentioned Gilmore Girls.

I think he is waiting for the GG movie as well.

Is Amy writing the movie right now and let's all hope it doesn't end up like those awful Sex & the City movies.  Particularly the 2nd one.

I saw that, too.  It was pretty funny.  His favorite shows are Gilmore Girls, Sopranos, Gilmore Girls reruns and then something I can't remember.  I like Lauren's new show Parenthood, mainly because of her.

I'm still not that sure if I want a GG movie.  Yes, I would love to see them all together with Amy doing the writing but I think that it has been too long.  Yes, I would watch it in a heart beat if it was made but it isn't something I am craving.

I've never seen any of the Sex and The City Movies.  Actually didn't watch more than a hand full of episodes of the show either.

Have you seen the new book The Gilmore Girls Companion?  I have it (ordered it back in April 2009 and it was released right before Christmas 2010).  It has some good and fun interviews, though none with Lauren, Alexis, Scott, Amy or Dan, but still some good ones from others in the cast and crew.  There are a lot of little tid bits I never knew.

I heard about that GG Companion book.  I hope it gets a wider release so I can find it at my local Barnes & Noble.

Hope you have been able to get a copy of the book.  Have you heard that Lauren is writing a book right now?  It is kind of a novel/biography so I gather and will be titled (at least so far) "You'll Never Make It".  Not sure when it will be published since she is still writing it.  I can't wait to read it.

Anyone here watching "Parenthood"?  I love the show.

This was a fun thread. And in honor of being off topic: I can't decide if I'm going blind or the text on my phone is really small but I can't read ANYTHING! :/ Not as young as I once was, huh? Wink

My off topic topic-of-the-day: Office Martyrs

Do any of you have a workmate that just makes you dread coming into work? Someone who makes everything about themselves or fobs work off onto other people in the pretense of delegating due to being extremely busy (when they aren't even close to busy), the person who has the boss under their thumb even though they aren't very good at what they do, or someone who hovers at your desk when you are working and expects you to stop working to either talk to them or assist them with their work. Do you have a person who makes you feel uncomfortable by over sharing personal details about their health, their lack of a sex life or simply farting in your presence? Or picks at boils or pimples in the office? Or scratches themselves so aggressively that you can hear the scratchy noise across the room? What about the morbidly obese person who lives on coke and egg and bacon sandwiches (whilst injecting insulin in your presence)? Or they diet or quit smoking for five minutes and then you catch them eating a whole pizza or chain smoking? Or they just spend half the day either smoking or taking personal calls about their sick child/husband/mother in law...Or the person who lives alone and wants you to drop your social life to be their companion? How about the obnoxious person who leaves you gifts of tacky jewelry that you know they got out of the bargain bin as a way to appease you for dealing with them. Oh, what about the person who wears a really really strong perfume that makes you gag??

I have all of that...IN ONE PERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please tell me I am not alone Sad

B xxx

(As if on queue she just brought me in a present to make up for dumping a load of work on me yesterday - a little pocket hand warmer...it is cute but doesn't really make up for the awful job she lumped me with yesterday)

B, I am very sorry to tell you that I love my work colleagues. They are a basically the reason why I enjoy work.

However, I do have a great story to tell.

So today a woman transferred from one team to another one. She moved to the team in the room next door to mine. She chose a desk that already belonged to someone. even when she was told this fact, she carried on with moving into that desk. She was told multiple times that she should check with the woman whose desk it was - she didn't care. She brought at least twenty plants with her, and loads..i mean loads of paintings and crafts her daughters had made. Her corner of the room looks like a crazy jungle. The others in that room were really annoyed. Basically she didn't care though and has already made herself unpopular on the first day. That was unwise.

edit: oh and she also brought in a clown her kids had crafted. it scared the hell out of one of the girls in the room

Some people have no respect for others!

My difficult colleague reorganised my entire area whilst I was on holidays so the moment I got back in after my break I was PISSED! I moved everything back, couldn't locate important little sticky notes (which she swears she never touched but then where are they???) and she couldn't understand why I put everything back. Was such an invasion of my space. Even when she was doing it people told her I would be pissed off but she was adamant I would love it.

So I need a follow up post to know how the lady who originally owned the desk has taken the situation. If it was me I would boot her ass out!!!!!!!

I can imagine you lurking around corners watching his every move. You're like Batman ensuring the bad guy stays good Smiley

I am also in a position where the higher ups know my worth so I feel secure but this person has a web of her own weaved, not through skill, through pity and guilt. Its very sad but at the end of the day, she has created her situation and I have created mine. Life is what you make it and I would rather be here for my skill and to have dignity to go with it.

Well the employees were telling their boss that all her stuff made their department look really unprofessional. They are in international sales, so they need to make sure to keep up appearances. So the boss basically told her to tone it down. The clowns and kid arts and crafts have gone. the plants remain. The woman whose desk she took has not been back yet. She is just in the office on Mondays and had taken a holiday this week.

It's sad how some people behave. Just looking out for themselves, lying, being vindictive...

As I mentioned before I love my colleagues. I just get a bit annoyed how gossipy they are. One of our team will leave the room and the other two will complain about her. i don't like being a part of that and I know that they probably talk about me behind my back too.

I have worked in jobs where I am surrounded by men and jobs where I am surrounded by women and I have to say, working with women is unpleasant. Before Janich jumps in with a comment on all the eye candy in a male dominated workplace, its not even that, it's about being able to have a joke or pick on each other without anyone getting precious about their feelings and it's also about the gossip factor. I 100% agree, if they will talk about someone else behind their back they will damn well do it to you too. I loved being one of the boys Smiley

I'm probably going to offend someone here and I apologise in advance but here goes  Grin

There was a story on the news last night, a current affair expose on an office that refused to re-hire a woman after her maternity leave ended. So she was dragging their name through the mud saying they weren't supportive of her desire to reduce her hours on her return. The thing is, the law here is that if you go on maternity leave, when you return if you are not at the same capacity you were when you left then you are technically no longer entitled to your job and the employer has the right to fill that role with someone who can do the role you originally had but no have the desire/ability to do.

There were women all over that show getting fired up about employers not accommodating for their need to be a carer to their sick kids. And here I was yelling at the TV, (completely going against the sisterhood, haha!) and asking why the father's couldn't use their sick leave to look after the kids. We have a team in our office that is four women with young kids (lovely women, each and every one of them!) but there are days where not one of them is at work because they all have sick kids. And each and every one of them has a husband who does not do sick kid duty. That is a whole department wiped out in one go, with no-one else in the office who can pick up their workload as it is specialised, they are in roles that have targeted hours funded by the government and if they don't meet targets the funding could be lost.

Now I know I am a bitter little thing who doesn't want kids of her own so I can't understand what they are going through but surely, SURELY they can see the bigger picture beyond their expected entitlement.

I know I went off on a tangent but it is the off-topic thread so its my rightful place to do so, haha!

I will go back to my sad, childless lifestyle now!

Bam Pow So true!

While I don't technically 'work', on the boards I serve there are definite attitudes that drive me insane.  It always boils down to worrying about yourself and how you act,  and get your job done.  Many consider me younger than I am, and I always tend to dress up a little nicer and work extra hard to prove my worth.

I prefer working with men too. It shows by my degree in college, I was usually in a 70/30 ratio of men to women and as my classes got up the ratio of guys to girls got even higher.  I  have always felt more comfortable around men and even less competitive. I was the only girl of many boy cousins and I just loved hanging out with them when I could.  Unfortunately, distance made that tough and life has continued for us to grow apart.  I do miss those times when we were kids and we could just go fishing and enjoy the summer day.

Well, my current were house boss (or something to that effect) is a god damn kill-stealer when it comes to work effort. He got to were he is now by taking credit for other peoples work while trashing them when it's only him and the owner (one of them). When I started to call him out... I'm lucky the then current boss liked me Wink Tried and failed to slay me 3 times (those I know of) but is all nice now. I worked myself in a position where everyone of the higher uppers know well what I'm able to do, so he can't attack without severe backlash. But he's skilful at evil, so I have to keep an eye on the boy. I have weaved my own webs, though. Few people adore him now. He will slowly dig his own grave now that hardly anyone help him without making damn sure people know they did the work. I watch. If he improve, then he'll have my support. But I ain't gonna be cheated again.
Wow the imagery here ... have you considered writing? Wink :two cents:

A clown?  A jungle?  I totally get bringing in a couple items your kids make, that can be heartfelt and nice .... but you can't let that clutter your whole office.

I better go fix lunch for my kids .....

According to the public education system I can't read or write, nor am I too able to do anything. Pretty stupid, really. So I kind'a think you might be mistaken, Melissa Wink
For less snarkyness: Yep. I would love that. But it normally turn out crazy. I had an LJ at one time. I believe only Sternen-meer got to read it. I know I have some prints. Might share the madness some time.
Oh, and *hug* Thank you Smiley

Janich from what I just read on your facebook re: American Civil War you are a beautiful and thought provoking writer. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I am studying a degree online at the moment and I have picked up a few literature units as electives. Despite my passion for literature and writing my marks in these units never come in as high as my history units. It makes me a little sad but I decided not to let it get me down or stop me from writing. I entered my first literary competition in about 15 years the other day. I just have this need to try.
