I'm a Gilmore Guy, and I love the show.  I am very proud to be a Gilmore Guy!  Im 22 years old...anyone know what the average is?
(Also, I'm straight.  That may not be relevant to anything, but....on another message board im on (www.micechat.com) that seems to be the general stereotype.  I think thats a horrible stereotype.)  Anyways....I really love the show.  I think I got hooked a little over a year or 2 ago.
I'm not ashamed and neither should any other guy be.

IM PROUD TO BE A GILMORE GUY!!!   Grin

I'm not a guy, but i thought this was an intersting fact that might belong here.  In the stats, i noticed that the Male to Female Ratio was  1:10.3!  There are 1531 people registered so that would make about 153 guys!  I think that that is a lot and i'm glad you all like the show!

Hi,
I wasn't try to be mean, I was just pointing it out. I didn't snark you or anything, just a heads up that this thread already existed. Welcome to the board.

Just curious, guys...do you think that you most identify with Luke or some other guy on the show?

Yeah, I think I'd most compare myself to Luke in the way that I could totally see myself pining for a girl like Lorelai for 8 years and never saying a word. There are quite a few things about Luke that I do not and don't want to see in myself, but since you asked who we "most" identify ourselves with, that would indeed be Luke for me.

In the stats, i noticed that the Male to Female Ratio was  1:10.3!  There are 1531 people registered so that would make about 153 guys!  I think that that is a lot and i'm glad you all like the show!

Well, considering that the world population is believed to be pretty much evenly male and female (with a slight majority on the female side) I wouldn't really consider 1:10 a good ratio. Not that it really matters though. I mean, as long as enough people watch the show to keep the crew motivated to make more episodes, it's fine with me.

true,  but i was just thinking more along the lines of most people assume that this is a "girl's" show, and this just goes to show that both genders love it! Cheesy

My friend Brian watches Gilmore Girls, I don't think it's wierd, it's actually fun that I can talk to him about GG.

Hi again all,

I posted a thread up here not too long ago about a project I'm working on involving the Gilmore Girls.  I'm changing my focus, but still focusing on the Gilmore Girls.

So as a heterosexual male fan of this show, I often get laughed at or attacked in some way.  Other male fans of the show...what's your experience?

The class I'm taking is cult television, and it seems like a lot of other shows that are considered "cult" like Star Trek, the X-Files, Buffy, etc, tend to work in traditionally male-oriented genres like sci fi or horror.  While these shows are fairly male-oriented, they have plenty of female fans.  A male fan of the Gilmore Girls or shows like it that sort of operate in the female comedy/melodrama world probably have a hard time getting male fans to cross that gender boundary.  In the long run, it probably means that it's harder to get shows like the Gilmore Girls made, and it's harder to keep them on the air, because 50% of a potential audience won't watch the show for fear of being called gay.  What do any of you think?

I would love to hear anyone's opinions as to my project, or your experiences in this area, no matter your gender or sexual orientation.

Thanks!

Hey, there is already a thread for the male fans and they were discussing their experiences too. Just look through the pages and you'll find it.

So I posted this elsewhere and got redirected here:

PS. I started watching it because I saw Lauren Graham interviewed on Letterman and thought she was very funny, and she reminded me of a friend of mine that I used to have a thing for, then discovered little fan enclaves and realized it was a lot of fun watching the show with other people.  Now there are a lot of shows that I feel like I have to watch with people around, but GG was really the first big one for me.

Also, I don't know that I really identify with any male characters on the show.  It seems like Luke is supposed to be the most identifiable on the show since he's made the whole run and has more depth than the caricature-ish characters like Kirk.  One thing though: I've always thought that Lorelei gives Richard too hard of a time.  He makes mistakes, but I think he generally comes off as a decent human being.  She misdirects the anger she feels towards her mom unfairly I think.

And there goes any pretentions towards academic disattachment.

Hello all!

I recently stumbled across these forums while I was trying to find a title to one of the Gilmore Girls episodes.  I since registered, and, as per sternen-nest's suggestion from my introductory post, I'm joining in on the non-male bashing section!   Wink

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I orginally watched GG when my brother's wife was watching the show.  I started ridiculing the show and its fast-paced dialogue. Roll Eyes It wasn't too long before I ended up getting hooked.... Grin

As for being ashamed, I only joke about it.  If anyone asks - in all seriousness - then I'll gladly say I watch it and enjoy it!  Of course, when I'm not watching GG, I'm probably hooked on Cartoons and/or ESPN so my preference may not carry much weight.   Undecided Still, I sincerely enjoy the show.

Gilmore Girls is my vice!  If anyone asks, I only watch the show because the actresses are hot - the plot is secondary.  Wink

I'm quite suprised at myself for not ever posting on this thread before. I know I've read through some of it at least 3 times, but I never actually replied. Weird I guess.

As for the content of my post, there are so many things I wanted to reply to as I re-read through the thread, but I feel that it would be too long and I don't usually like to bring up old topics.

So I guess I'll just talk about my experience as a "Gilmore Guy" and how I came about to watch the show.

As for my experience as a male who watches the show, I guess I gain laughter and knowledge when I watch the show. Laughter I don't need to explain, as for the knowledge, I once posted on the older male thread from the past forum that I like to watch the show to gain understanding the female mind. I also get to observe how life could be for some people (even though the story is fiction, aside from GG being realistic, as long as any story isn't too far-fetched it could be a reality IMO), as I constantly try to learn about people and life.

Aside from watching the show, I've only discussed/read about the show on this site. No one really knows I watch the show except for my family and my friend who I told recently for some apparent reason. My brothers don't really care what I watch, and my mother teases me(yes my mother =P) for watching the "Women's Channel"(to my knowledge, it shows only on the W Network in Canada).

When I first saw the show, it was actually on another channel. It was late during one of those many nights in which I was procrastinating school work and I decided to flip through channels on the TV. I found it quite interesting and decided to watch the rest of the episode. The truth is, I didn't really like this episode, but instead I decided to watch it again the next day and found liking to those. So why did I end up watching the show if I didn't really like the first episode I saw? Well, I usually find that I can watch any kind of series and find some liking to it. I must say, instead of my usual wasting of time when procrastinating, finding the show was definitely not. Luckily for me the timing was pretty good and the channel was currently showing the first half of the first season.

I can't really focus on one thing for too long so I think I'll end my post here. =P
