haha oh Mike, that is not so great.  I'm sure you will survive though.  Grin  And yes I do believe that they would be the kind of people snickering or griping if they were corrected by a teacher.

I myself went on the rampage a bit last night.  A few things finally just pushed me over the edge and so I decided it was time to say enough is enough.  My posts in response to these were perhaps a little less diplomatic than usual and when I came back today I expected to have been snarked on several fronts.....turns out the opposite happened.  I got pretty sticked about 8 times  Grin  Maybe I'm prettier than you Mike Wink

BTW - is your book only available from that place you directed me to?  Rather than pay overseas shipping charges etc., I have asked my local bookstore to see if they can get it in.  Haven't heard from them yet, but it has only been a few days.  I'll keep you posted.

I got snarked by a teenager again. Seems a new one came on and started a thread with several "How come" questions. Fine and good. Then, she said she wanted to know these things because she was a "perfectionest".

I said maybe someone who claims to BE one might at least found out how to spell "perfectionist". I mean - someone who claims to be a perfectionist but cannot spell perfectionist ISN'T one! I used one of these  Roll Eyes  to indicate I wasn't meaning to be snotty.

She took umbrage at this and a nuther teen came on and snarked me. It was a new thread and seems to be gone now.

Do you suppose these two would snark a teacher for correcting their spelling?
  Roll Eyes

Cheesy I saw that comment you made just a little earlier today. I laughed pretty hard. You hit the nail on the head. The thread was moved and merged into the existing q & a thread.

Overnight, I lost 10 points by snarking because I agreed with someone else's unpopular opinion. It is pretty funny. I had about 85+ pretty stick hits overall and went down to 74. I expected it to happen, but, it is still funny. I get a kick out of it. Teens get so upset so easily. I don't take the pretty/snark thing seriously myself. It is just for fun.

But, in defense of the teen...I suppose it could have been a typo of sorts? I make them all the time. It took me awhile to realize I could modify my own posts and correct glaring errors. I am slow that way.  Wink

I felt bad for the person expressing an unpopular opinion, because, I think what she wrote was a bit 'tongue in cheek', she has done that before...some of the younger fans don't catch on to her 'sense of humor'.

I try to pretty stick people whenever they make good comments that add value to the conversation, whether they agree with my own opinions or not. After all, we are here to discuss.

I have never visited this thread before...it looks very intriguing. I'll have to read through it so I can attempt to make a worthwhile comment myself.   Smiley

Mike, as a teacher I found your post hilarious!!!  The spelling errors kill me while reading posts and I reach for my red pen and, oh it doesn't work on my computer screen unfortunately. Undecided  I'll bet that those kids would LOVE to snark their teachers when they correct their mistakes!  However, in my classroom I am the queen and only happy thoughts are allowed.  I'm lucky, though, because I teach nine-year olds and they are still very sweet and, for the most part, love coming to school.

roryg fan, I think it would be fantastic for you to be on this thread on a regular basis for two important reasons:
1) your posts are of great substance (which is important around here to us old folks! Wink)
and
2) you know how to eloquently state your opinion
Welcome, and don't be a stranger!!!  As I told you in the other thread, my name is Michelle.

As the rest of you, I'm sick of the whole snarking thing, I've been snarked 4 times in the past 24 hours.  Luckily, I've also received a couple of pretty sticks to ease the pain.  I guess I'll take Dani257's very positive outlook that not being snarked is not worth not stating my opinion.  Pretty sticks all around!

Hey honk - Thanks for looking for Undeadly Spring. The ISBN is 978-1-4116-0271-7 if that helps them find it. It is supposed to be listed in Books in Print.

At the moment: http://www.lulu.com/undeadlyspring is the only place I know of from which it may be ordered.

Hey wmushell - There are no misspellings in the book but I think I left a participle dangling somewhere. There are absolutely NO split infinitives, and I know the difference between its and it's.

(I know double posting isn't allowed, but this thread has dropped to page THREE and I don't know if editing my previous post will bump it back up or not. If I get snarked for double-posting, one of you oldsters whack me with a pretty stick to make up for it.)

Hey honk - To find out if you're prettier than I am, click on the link in the above post and there's a small shot of me standing atop Giant Mountain in the Adirondacks. I live in California, so it's kind of a long story. If you buy the book, there's a good shot of me on the back of the dust jacket. You may be prettier than I am, but I look more like a guy who would have written a love story in which one character looks like Lorelai Gilmore and there are a few vampires involved.

The photo on the front of the dust jacket is taken from a shot of Lauren, sufficiently modified and disguised so as to avoid copyright problems.

Anyhow, he handled talking to Rory after the broken engagement with such class and dignity.  It made me sad in "Keg! Max!" that he acted so weak towards Lorelai (couldn't be within 10 feet of her) and was still so damaged that he never wanted to see her again.  I guess that part is realistic, but he called her a "mythological creature" that he couldn't control himself around.  I always saw Max as a stronger person than that, not a lovesick puppy.  Thoughts?

Hi all, I just got finished watching season 1.  I have been sick so not much to do.  Anyway, this Max discussion I find interesting.  I don't consider Max a "lovesick puppy."  I feel that as a well educated and well read Literature teacher he is just a hopeless romantic.  Speaking metaphorically and calling her a "mythological creature" was just the literary thing to do.  I do believe that he loved her more than she loved him.  I think she loved the idea of him and having someone treat her the way he did.  The whole time she is with him she is still flirting with Luke.  And when he asks her to marry him she is upset that it isn't perfect.  She doesn't want to do it.  When they leave the house that night she says goodbye to Bert, Luke's toolbox.  Max sends the daisies and she is overwhelmed, just caught in the moment.  I think she knows this by all of her diliberate avoidance of wedding plans and telling people.  Max was all in Lorelai wasn't.  Max is too much of a nice guy to tell her to buzz off.  I just have to say that Max would have been a lot sexier if he had a British accent.

I hope all this rambling makes sense since I am highly medicated right now.  And I am upset that my order of season 6 has been postponed a week.

Peace,
Dawn

Watch it all over again at the Viewing Party!

Hello! I was so happy to see this thread!  I am 37 and don't know many people that watch GG, so it was great to read everyone's opinions.  I felt funny about posting, first of all because I am new to posting to any forums, and secondly I thought most of the members were much younger than I.  So last week I finally joined, and tonight I found this thread!  It is nice to see some in depth analysis of the characters and their relationships.  I am divorced and have a 9 year old son who loved to watch with me every Tuesday night.  He knew how much I looked forward to watching, so he got into it too!

I too relate to Lorelai with her references to the 80's! Just the other day I was reading a thread about a reference made about Jimmy Carter and it cracked me up that people were trying to figure out what they were talking about!   I also relate being a single mother myself. I think thats how I got hooked on the show seeing Lorelai raising a daughter on her own. I just happened to stumble across the show a few years ago, and have been hooked ever since (of course buying all the dvd's to catch up!)!

I just vented yesterday on another thread (Season 6.22) about how I feel about the Lorelai/Luke/Chris relationship, so I will save all my additional thoughts for another post!

Again, so glad to see this thread!  Smiley

Welcome Ggirlfan!!!  It is so nice to have someone new on the thread.  I, too, LOVE the 80's references.  The fact that the Bangles were on GG in the first season makes me such a happy girl!  Also, that Lorelai was listening to "99 Luftballoons" when she was in the hospital to have Rory was fantastic.  That's so sweet your son watches with you.  It's a show that such a diverse demographic can enjoy.

Hey wmushell - There are no misspellings in the book but I think I left a participle dangling somewhere. There are absolutely NO split infinitives, and I know the difference between its and it's.

Mike, I have a bad habit of using squinting modifiers, but I'm working on it! Smiley  Thanks for sharing the info on your book, I love the Lauren-esque cover.

Dawn, I hope you're feeling better!  Season 1 is a good fix for whatever ails you.

Be back later to write more!!!

 Cool

Where to start??   Well firstly *whack* to you Mike just for being strong and manly enough to drag our amazing little thread all the way from page three - come on guys, we really need to show the young'ns how it's done!

Secondly, Oh, I'm prettier than you Mike....but that's okay because you are way more handsome than I  Cheesy.
And good news your book is on its way!!!  So soon I'm going to read it and then have a good chat to you about it.  Can't wait.  It would appear that with a bit of romance and vampire behaviour, it shall be right up my alley.  And by the way, I had already checked your picture out...you didn't think you could arm me with all that information and then get away with me not having a snoop, did you?

Welcome to the oldies thread Ggirlfan. *whack* with the pretty stick for you also, for joining in and finding us interesting Cheesy.

Michelle:  I can just picture you walking around like and egyptian Grin.  Doesn't it make you smile fondly?

Hi, Caryn!  I have, indeed, walked like an Egyptian many times my friend!  I've been a Bangles fan since I was in the 5th grade.

Okay, so I have a funny GG-related trip to the mall story to share.  First of all, I was wearing my "Luke's" shirt (I know, I know -- I'm not 16 anymore.  But I like it and it looks really cute with my new boot-cut jeans Wink)  Anyhow, I was in Eddie Bauer with my mom and this guy who was sitting in a chair outside the dressing room (talking on his cell phone) kept staring at me.  All of a sudden, he yells "Hey!  You're wearing a Luke's shirt!".  Then he calls across the store to his wife, "Honey, this girl [bless him!] is wearing a Luke's shirt!".  Finally, he tells the person he's talking to on his cell phone, "This girl in the store is wearing a Luke's shirt.  I'll call you back."  Then he hangs up and asks me where I got it, and I tell him I bought it online.  At this point, everyone in the store is trying to get a look at my shirt to see what the fuss is about.  My mother is keeping her distance at a clothes rack far away, snickering because she knows I hate having a lot of attention drawn to me.  Now, as uncomfortable as I was, I start to get a little excited thinking that I've encountered some GG fans.  However, my hopes are dashed as the guy says "Our son is named Luke."  That's why he was so interested in it.  Bummer.  His wife finally makes her way over to us and we have the following exchange:

Loud guy's wife:  "Where is Luke's?  Can I go there and get a t-shirt like this?"
Me:  "Um, no, because Luke's is actually on television."
Loud guy's wife:  "What television show?"
Me:  "Gilmore Girls"
Loud guy's wife:  "Oh, Gilmore Girls.  Hey, is that the show with that one girl?"
Me (desperate to get out of there):  "Yes!" (for all I knew she meant Jennifer Garner)
Loud guy's wife:  "You know, that one girl that was on Ellen.  She was so funny!"
Me (perking up at the mention of my idol):  "Yes, that's Lauren Graham!"
Loud guy's wife:  "Is she as funny on Gilmore Girls as she was on Ellen?"
Me:  "Definitely.  Even funnier!"
Loud guy's wife:  "Well, if she is and the show has a Luke's in it I think I should start watching!"

So, I've gotten another person to try out GG -- yay!  My mother, who has more than a little bit of Lorelai in her, said (jokingly) "See, honey, I've taught you not to wear shirts that have things written across your chest.  People can't help but to look!"  Whatever, mom. Wink

I found out from an interview that the perfume Lauren wears is Fracas.  Now, I happen to LOVE perfume so we went to check it out.  I found it at Sephora (referenced SO many times in GG -- ASP must love that store) and it smells really good.  Now I smell like Lauren, which is a little creepy.  I must say, though, that I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't like it.
Anyhow, it was a very Gilmore outing! Star

What planet are these people from - how could they not know what Luke's was?

Great story Michelle, if I were you I'd wear the tshirt everywhere, just to see how often you get a reaction, makes life a little more interesting I'd say.

BTW, I love Fracas...you smell pretty Smiley Kiss

Hey people,
Wow, I am also not over 30, but I will NEVER use abbreviations like "sux" or "thx" at you. Lol. Although I will use Lol.  Cheesy
Anyways, I was just reading the "Lukes" story, and I had a similar encounter at my mall! I was walking through, and wearing a t-shirt I had made at a t-shirt printing place, that said "This is my Friday Night Dinner Shirt" and has a small rhinestone penis in the corner (but a tasteful one, at that!). If my mom ever found out I had it, she'd probably just laugh... my dad on the other hand... Lol. Yeah, not so good.
Anyway, this woman comes up and says "So where is Friday Night Dinner's?" and me, naive as ever replied, "It's from a t.v. show."
"Oh, so there's none around here?"
"Umm..."*confused* "No, it's a joke from Gilmore Girls."
"Damn"
Then, as she was walking away, I realized that she figured "Friday Night Dinner's" was a strip club! Lol. For one, I am 16, no where near old enough for a strip club, and two, who names a strip club Friday Night Dinner! Haha. Oh well, maybe next time I'll have a better response for her! And, maybe I should stick to wearing the rhinestone penis' to bed. LOL!  Wink

I loved your "Luke's" T shirt story wmushell!  I have to get myself a Luke's shirt now, not only because I love Gilmore Girls, but because I also have a son named Luke too!

Funny thing is, when I first started watching Gilmore Girls a few years ago on Tuesday nights, my son was telling my friends and family that I didn't make plans on Tuesday nights because I was watching my favorite show, "Golden Girls!" He couldn't get the name right.  My friends were wondering why I was so obsessed with Golden Girls? LOL
