I thought since Lorelai, Rory, and  Lane  have a past boyfriend thread I would do a girlfriend one for Luke.

Now I know there are only two past girlfriends that we have seen on the show but we can all chat and make comments about Rachel and Anne. So post whatever comments or opinions you got!! Smiley

Haha, this is a good idea.  I like it, and there is nothing like it already, I don't think. Smiley I like Rachel more then Sherry.  I don't know why.  Probably because she thought Luke and Lorelai should be together. (unless I am mixing the two names up--oop, sorry if I am).

I haven't met Anne yet, because I'm waiting for the season six DVD's....but I do know she exists, just from hints thrown out on threads, etc.

Rachel I really liked!  There was a calm quality to her--intelligent, but not overbearing; caring but not clingy.  In the same way that I was interested to follow Jess' story to California, I had the feeling that I'd like to follow Rachel's story somewhere else, beyond Stars Hollow, once she left.  I did think making her a photo-journalist seemed....trite, somehow, and I'm not sure why?  But, it made her an interesting potential role model (in the it-takes-a-village sense) for Rory and her aspirations to be Christianne Amanpour.

On the "Lorelai's boyfriends" thread, there's been discussion about "chemistry" between Lorelai and Christopher, Lorelai and Luke, etc.  I felt a lot of chemistry in Luke's reaction to Rachel before she actually appeared--but when she finally arrived, I only got a sense of Luke's panic!  So, the chemistry thing with her seemed pretty dead to me.  She seemed to have more sparks with Lorelai, actually  Cheesy and I had a brief thought that another cool friend for Lorelai might be nice.

Oops!  I totally forgot about Nicole--and she was actually married to the man, lol.   She wasn't a bad type, either, and certainly a lot of different from Rachel.  I never believed Luke and Nicole's  attraction to each other, though.  I felt like Jess goaded Luke into asking her out, and things sort of tumbled from there.

I liked Rachel the best - you could tell that she really cared about Luke and wanted him to be happy. (Even if it wasn't with her.) Such a classy, mature girl.

I didn't really care for Nicole all that much. She seemed kind of stuck up and she just didn't seem like Luke's type AT ALL. Plus, didn't she cheat on him? So not cool in my book!

As for Anna - I don't know yet. We haven't really seen that much of her.

I liked Rachel, too.  I also liked that they bothered to give her a personality -unlike Nicole- and that she was written as a good person.  So, it seemed to me that they weren't worried that someone might actually want Luke to end up with her.  With Nicole, it was like they wanted to make sure no one would even have a second thought about her once she went away. There was nothing about her.  She was like a slightly more substantial version of Alex (Lorelai's blink and you'll miss him relationship).

Well Luke never dated Alex. Or..maybe I am thinking of someone esle? Wasn't Alex the one who worked with Lorelai on that fashion show for the Chilton booster club? If thats her then all Luke ever did was give her directions even though she seemed to what a lot more.

No, Alex is the guy who Lorelai dated.  He and his partner were looking to open a coffee house or something like that.  I just meant that Nicole made as little of an impression on the viewing audience when Luke dated her, as Alex did when Lorelai dated him.  Maybe slightly more, since Luke married her.  But, just slightly.

I think out of Lukes exe's Rachel is the best one.  She saw that Luke was in love with Lorelai and told him not to mess it.  Plus she was just cool.  Nicole I have to agree did'nt make much of an impact on me personally.  We never really got to know her much because she was'nt obviously going to be around very long.

 Yeah besides Lorelai Rachel was pretty cool. I liked how she and Lorelai bonded a little and she played off Lorelai's comments real well.
