Was it ever proven that Nichole was having an affair with someone while she and Luke were still married? You know the sock guy?

Oh, I loved Rachel. She was so quirky and funny. Very similar to Lorelai, but not so alike that you felt like she wasn't her own person. She could, IMO, keep up with Lorelai's wit as well as or better than Rory could. 'Oh, did you tell him about the baseball cap fashion show?,' 'You think if I threw in a little hot fudge you could wrangle me half the closet?,' etc. She kept up with the show.

In support of the unsupported ships: Christopher and Lorelai. Luke and Rory. Jess and Lorelai. Jess and Lane. Emily and Jess.

Why should these ships get less respect than others? How can any of us claim tolerence in real life if we can't live with TV show 'ships'? God help us all.

I think it kind of was later in that episode:

LUKE: I wanted to see who owned the socks.

LORELAI: And did you?

LUKE: I think so. I just had a feeling tonight. Nicole was kind of vague on her plans, so I told her I'd stay at the diner. And then I drove up here, and I parked, and I waited. And then this car pulled up, and she got out with him. And, uh, they went inside, and I watched them go.

LORELAI: And you're sure he's the owner of the socks?

LUKE: Well, I didn't ask him, but he's the owner of the socks. And if he isn't, the picture's still not looking very good.

LORELAI: I agree with you there.

I mean, he didn't literally see them doing anything, but I think it's safe to say he drew a  pretty accurate conclusion based on what he did see.

I def liked Rachel more than Nichole. Nichole really didn`t like Lorlia & she was alittle standoffish to any1 th@ luke was kinda sorta friends with. Rachel reminded me of Lorlia! Ha,ha! I kno comfusin rite? Huh It is just Rachel seemed more like Lukes type than Nichole. I haven`t (so say) met Anna yet. But when I do I will post what I think about her. Tongue

I have to agree with everyone else so far.  I liked Rachel. I can't figure out the Nicole relationship  Huh She did not seem like anyone Luke would ever be attracted to at all!  Luke is so down to earth, and Nicole just seemed very snotty.  I almost wonder if Luke was with her because Lorelai was with Max.  The jury is still out on Anna.  She seems like she would have been pretty cool, but we don't know what their relationship was like when they were together.

As I've said in other posts, I think Anna and Lorelai have a lot similarities actually. Not to get off topic here, but I have been trying to get the timing of the relationship with Anna though.  How long has Luke known Lorelai? Has it been at least 10 years? I thought Luke knew Rory when she was little?  Why wouldn't Lorelai know about Anna?  Rory would have been about 10 right? Hasn't Lorelai been living in Stars Hollow since Rory was a baby?  Maybe I'm getting too deep into this! LOL!

Yeah I liked Rachel more than Nichole. Rachel was more down to earth and it was cool that she got along with Lorelai.

Anna seems ok too but I didn't like that she had to complain to Lorelai about her running Aprils b-day party. I mean she should trust Luke enough and its not like he wasn't there during the party. I mean if she trusts April to come over there to visit she shouldn't have an issue with Lorelai.

I worked out the timing one time, well the best I could, using the actual years the shows aired and things that were said about the different girlfriends and when he met Lorelai

When Lorelai first hears about Rachel, Sookie says something about it having been 5 years ago, so since that was an episode that aired in the 2000-2001 season that would put Rachel leaving Luke (well the time prior to her leaving in season 1) in 1995 or so.

Then when Luke and Lorelai are on their first date (well the first official one) he says he has had the horoscope for 8 years, which was apparently when they met for the first time. That show was in 2004 so 1996 when Lorelai came in to the diner.  I've never really understood why Lorelai didn't go to the diner in that apparently small town before because she did live at the Independence Inn but maybe she just didn't get out much until she bought her house.

Now for the Anna thing-April was 12 when she shows up and Luke finds out she is his daughter so that was in 2005-2006, so the Anna relationship had to have ended sometime around 92.  That's based on the fact that April turned 13 in an episode in season 6 that was in the spring and Luke didn't know Anna was pregnant so the split had to happen before she started showing.

So based on that information Rachel was either after Anna, or Anna was in between one of the times Rachel left-because the imply that Rachel would often stick around for awhile then leave and then come back in her relationship with Luke.

Anyway, I liked Rachel, I thought Anna had a screw loose, and the relationship with Nicole was just weird (to quote Jess Wink)

I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up, but one thing that Nicole & Rachel had in common:
They were both jealous of Lorelai.

Each of them suspected that Luke had feelings for Lorelai and it became an issue between them and Luke. And each time Luke denied it, claiming there was nothing there, they're just friends, etc. And each time, the woman in question did not buy into his denial. With Rachel, it was the biggest factor in their break-up; her parting words to Luke were "don't wait too long to tell her how you feel" (or something like that).

I agree with most people that Rachel was very cool. Down-to-earth, easy to relate to, what's not to like? Rachel & Lorelai became friendly and, if not for the guy between them, might have remainded good friends.

I also agree that Nicole was not truly Luke's type but maybe that was part of the attraction. Also, it was a matter of timing. Luke was at a point where he wanted to date and she came on the scene. If not for the crazy spur-of-the-moment marriage, they might have had a good fling for a while and just moved on without complications.

** carelessly used Anna's name when i really meant Nicole. Corrected the post with Nicole's name. Fifty lashes to back. **

I totally agree with this! I LOVED Rachael she wasn't bad for a love rival! I thought she was cool looking too!

I HATED Nicole!!! I liked her in Season 3 not too bad until "Of Poes and Fires" then I started seeing her true colors. When she came back in Season 4 specifically to throw a wedge between Luke and Lorelai I was NOT a happy camper!  Wall The snotty truimphant look on her face in "Die, Jerk" said it all to me. However, I'm glad to see that even with Nicole around Luke STILL went to Lorelai for support and to lend support.  Smitten High Five I almost suspected he went along with Nicole to get a jealous reaction from Lorelai.

Yeah, the problem with writing for a long series is the fact that sometimes the timelines get a little screwed up in the scripts. For example when Luke tells Lorelai about Jess living with him and how his father left him two years ago, in the next season when Jimmy comes to Luke's it's revealed that he left when Jess was a baby and only got his life together two years ago.

I think the Rachael/Anna thing falls into the same thing problem. I think what ASP meant to explain was Luke dated Anna first. When she left, she didn't know she was pregnant and the diner had JUST opened. When Luke got together with Rachael it was soon afterwards and when Rachel left it was about five years before the pilot which means he met Lorelai about three or four years before it. THIS would go along with April's age of being 12 turning 13 when she enters. If Rory was 11 when Lorelai first met Luke/ about a year or so after they moved into their house; that would make a difference of about 3 or 4 years between Lorelai/Rory and Luke/Anna and it would match up slightly off but it works out enough. Um, does that make sense or am I just confusing things more?

I also use this timeline for Luke's father's boat>> If Luke hadn't seen the boat for about fifteen years and we were through 5 seasons aka 5 years then his father's death occured about 10 years before. If Lorelai and Luke met 3-4 years earlier than the pilot that would make the equation: 5 years of show+ 3-4 years prior knowing Luke= 8-9 years ... Rachael was 1 AND perhaps a half year before that, then Anna would leave 1 year previous to Rachael which might make it about 2 years for Anna. Luke's father was in the process of dying because Luke first opened the diner the year he was dating Anna and that would equal  10-11 years. Anna mentioned being there when he first opened the diner but said nothing about his father who I assumed was dead by then, they were probably dating before he died and Luke's mental state at the time could've been a factor into Anna's leaving. So 10-11 years + the 5 seasons it could= out this way (15-16 years) with a year sort of missing in there to equal April's age of 12 going on 13. Hmm, does this help?
