I agree when Emily was admiring Lorelai was really sweet. Some really funny lines in this episode!

I loved this episode. I really thought it was great when Emily was admiring Lorelai. I think that Emily thought Lorelai was making a mistake when she moved out when she had Lorelai, but now she is seeing how independent and how well she can do on her own.

(Hey just a thought. I think that the title Independence Inn describes Lorelai. Independent! I never realized that before..hehe.)

Yes, a constant trait of Lorelai's is her indepence.

I'm still disappointed that they didn't run with the storyline they played into here.  Emily's need to find something fulfilling of her own, and something that garners her respect.  Richard loves her, but he finds (or she thinks he does, and I agree) her life vapid.  There's no substance to her life, nothing that's really a goal of hers.  Rory hasn't analyzed Emily's life, but interestingly, she's probably more likely to go to Richard for help with school projects (like with the coming up with something to sell -and notice, Emily played hostess in that instance, not a real part of the project like Richard).  But, suprisingly, the person who I think respects Emily the most is the person she has the most antagonistic relationship with -Lorelai.  When Emily admires Lorelai for skills she thinks she lacks, Lorelai is quick to credit "the lady eating her burger with a knife and fork." And, notice, in the episode where she chews Jason out for changing the plans for their new clients, she describes Emily's parties as her "job" as a corporate wife.  It's a responsibility, and Emily does it well.  But, even though Lorelai understands that it's important to her, and she has defended her, she really doesn't find it important herself.  In this episode, after giving Emily props, she really doesn't have a good answer for when Emily says that all she has is buying useless junk.  She starts strong with friends and family (all great things to have) but kind of flounders and can only say she has a house -which obviously isn't giving Emily fulfillment now- and an offer for a dog.  All of Emily's family (Richard, Lorelai, and Rory) have a thing that they can call their own, that's not just them doing what's expected for the world they live in.  Richard has his insurance business (even more so when he started his own company), Lorelai has the inn, Rory hasn't started but she's in the preliminaries with her journalism and you could say her academics.  Emily doesn't have that.  And, she was probably contented before.  I think she enjoys her engagements and DAR meetings when she also had Richard's attention.  But, take that away, and she realizes that she doesn't have something that she can take pride in on her own.  And, something that Richard especially won't see as something to humor her with.

Unfortunately, they've only dropped hints of this in a few later episodes and instead decided to do a season of Emily being a raving banshee snob in season 5.

Shame, I feel for the two girls! They having to schedule time together! It cannot be cool, for the two of them having such a close relationship. Yes Emily sorta has a point, but to throw a fit over abit of facialy hair! LOL. Well it happens I'm affraid!  Wink

I love this epidsode! Lorelai and Rory still actually like each other! And I love the Lorelai/Emily scenes. The food court is my favorite! Emily eating a hamburger with knife and fork was funny.

Definetly one of my favorite epidsodes! Grin

I liked this one...especially these quotes:

[Emily stops short in the aisle. Lorelai slams into her back.]

EMILY: Lorelai!

LORELAI: Your brake lights were out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EMILY: Where are we going?
LORELAI: Right around the corner here.
EMILY: We really should have taken our bags.
LORELAI: They said they'd hold them.
EMILY: I'm totally turned around. Where are we?
RORY: You'll smell in a second.
EMILY: [gasps] What is this?
RORY: It's the food court.
EMILY: How long has this been here?
LORELAI: You've never been to the food court, Mom?
EMILY: No.
RORY: Where do you eat when you shop?
EMILY: I leave and go to a restaurant.
LORELAI: With this Valhalla of international cuisine so close?
EMILY: But it's cafeteria-style.
RORY: That's the fun.
LORELAI: Here. Best table in the house.
EMILY: It's plastic.
RORY: Plastic is a vital part of our bright tomorrow.
LORELAI: Soon we'll all be living in plastic houses.
RORY: On the moon.
EMILY: What are you talking about?
RORY: We're pulling your leg, Grandma.
EMILY: Well don't do that.
I loved how she didn't know what the food court was... "How long has this been here?"
One of my all time favorite Gilmore quotes comes from this episode:
RORY: What'd I miss?
EMILY: I was just admiring your mother's life.
RORY: Oh, I do that daily.
[They all smile thoughtfully and eat in silence.]
this is my favorite eppy, cause I think it's a lot different from others in the series. It kind of back away from the drama and is just a hilarious eppy. I think it's a great one to watch if you want a good laugh..
and I think her hair looks great the length.
I was really sorry to see how sad Emily is with her life.  It's also sad that Richard can't see that he's making Emily feel useless.  In the last couple of episodes (ever since the devil, I mean Jason, appeared) Richard has belittled and sniped at everything that Emily does/says.  She's feeling completely betrayed.
Have to say the breakdown in the department store was funny.  Food Court funny scene - eats your hamburger with a knife and fork.
How about Luke giving Lorelai all that money. I was afraid when they were sitting in the diner that there might be some scene about all the money spent, but they did a good job of letting the audience know that Luke knew these were all purchases made by Emily.
Lorelai and Rory fighting over the give away tote, funny.
I really enjoyed this episode because it was great that Lorelai and Emily started to bond more. The whole season they NEVER bonded. So it was awesome to see that.
