My favorite is Luke but after watching the first few episodes of season 2 i did like max but it was to rushed

Lorelai and Christopher getting MARRIED--that did NOT seem like something Lorelai would do at ALL.  It didn't make sense.  Except...okay I guess it COULD make sense.  If she was so upset over her and Luke breaking up, then she would be feeling impulsive, which she very much is when very upset.  Which is what getting married to Christopher was.  Impulsive. 

Plus.....Excuse me, but I was waiting for Lorelai and LUKE to get back together!...what an idiot

You're right that Luke became an idiot! No question about that. But it was completely natural that Lorelai and Chris got married. It was what Lorelai wanted from the begining of the show, she was just waiting for him to get his act together and when he did with Sherry i don't think we ever saw her as jealous. She always had Chris in the back of her mind.

Lorelai and Chris may have had a longer history, I know DUH!  Rory, but it was always meant to be Lorelai and Luke.  And yeah, I liked Luke better in the first four years give or take.  They did make him out to be a bit of idiot later on, not just the whole keeping April and Lorelai apart, but he changed and I didn't always like that different Luke, but I still wanted Lorelai and Luke to be together.  Their history together was the grown up Lorelai, not the teen Lorelai which is the one Chris new.  He only had snipits in Lorelai's adult life and really didn't know her that well as an adult.

That maybe was true in the first season but Chris grew and became more mature in the second season. He took big steps in such a short time regarding setteling down in one city, being commited to someone and having a real job. Can you say the same about Luke who took him eight years to ask Lorelai out and even when SHE proposed to him, he was too scared of marriage that he had to blow it with the April thing. That sounds 16 to me. And you know what annoys most is that even in the last season, Lorelai had to be the one who make up with him in the final episode. If she didn't, he probably would have waited another eight years to take a move.

^ ^ It's not accurate to say Lorelai had to be the one to make up with Luke in the final episode. Luke and Lorelai made amends with each other prior to the final episode, in "Hay Bale Maze." They each admited their mistakes from the prior year, and Luke said the whole thing about keeping Lorelai from April was wrong. He was plenty forthcoming about his errors.

Lorelai and Christopher have a strong bond and they are great together, but i agree with Cherilee that they primarily knew each other as kids and teenagers. They were in contact with each other only sporadically after their teenage years. Prior to the beginning of the series their contact was apparently limited to special occasions such as holidays. Even once Christopher was more in Lorelai's life during the early seasons, much of it was focused around Rory. How much actual time did Lorelai and Christopher spend together that they should truly know each other as adults? There is a big difference between bonding as kids and teenagers and bonding as adults in their 30s and beyond. Rory was essential to their bond; if she did not exist, it's quite possible Lorelai would have gone off to college at age 18 and she and Christopher would have drifted apart, as often happens with teenage sweethearts. As i say, i like Lorelai and Christopher and all things considered they did pretty well together. But much of what they had was based on their past and not enough was based on the present.
