Max Medina / Scott Cohen Appreciation

My problem with that whole line is, why isn't enough for Lorelai to love Luke now?  Does it taint that if she ever loved anyone else?  It was like the writers were scared that Max would swoop down and take Lorelai away if she didn't verbally separate herself from him.  Like he was some kind of boogie man, or something.

I'm actually surprised they bothered to mention Max, since it's not like he's been a threat to the relationship.  Not actually, since he wasn't there, and not in memory, since they didn't mention him since that time he came back that one episode after the jilting and it wasn't like Lorelai was wallowing about him during seasons 4 and 5. 

Anyway, back to Max, I have plenty of favorite scenes with him.  The interview with Rory after he and Lorelai broke up.  (Yes, other men have cared about Rory).  I love how he tried to put her at ease, how he said that he didn't believe in regrets, how tenderly he spoke about Lorelai when Rory told him the circus story.  I think a lot of men wouldn't have been able to pull that off after being dumped.  And, also, for some reason, I really love that he once wanted to be a clown.  Just cute.  And, I love Cinnamon's Wake (I think that's the episode) where he sees Lorelai at the bake sale and is trying to convince her to go out with him, but still says that he would have stopped Rory from taking the test if he had to do it over.  I like that he wasn't willing to compromise his profession just because he liked a parent.   The cooking scene where Lorelai and Rory start quoting Monty Python, I think, and he can't keep up with those two loons, but he loves it, and also them going to the town meeting.  And, the show down with Luke was funny.  Especially Lorelai's comment about them swinging those things around and putting out an eye.

You know one thing I liked about Max?  He was one of the characters who seemed to be doing exactly what he was meant to be doing.  I mean, job-wise.  They didn't show him teaching that often, but when they did, I just felt tha he fit.  I'm always thinking (well, towards the younger set) that people would be better suited somewhere else.  But, Max just was a teacher.  And, I liked that he didn't come off as someone who just felt teaching was a job, but something he had a passion for, and that he liked the kids.
