Do the Troubadour's Lyrics say anything?

I know there's another Troubadour thread ... but its heaps old and I just wanted to bring this up fresh.
Do you think the Troubadour's lyrics say anything about the story or characters?
I cant remember how many times I've been watching an episode and listening to his lyrics trying to figure out if I can draw a connection to what he's singing about and the plot of the show and what the characters are going through.
I just re-watched "New and improved Lorelai 6.01" again yesterday.... and after Lorelai proposes and the town finds out he sings this line:
Quote
Making you an offer, still runs great, looking for a brand new start. A special, one-time deal on a pre-owned heart. A special, one-time deal on a pre-owned heart.
and it seemed like you could draw a connection between lorelai asking luke to marry her and his lyrics.... So what about all the other times he's singing ?

Well, it's not THE troubador but A troubador, but in Partings when Lorelai walks away, the troubador (who is actually Sam Phillips) is singing -
"And nostalgia isn't what it used to be, I can only picture the disappearing world when you touch me."
I really like the line about nostalgia, because it's saying that Lorelai's way of dealing with the immediate nostalgia is to sleep with Chris, which....well, isn't exactly the TRADITIONAL way of doing that.

i think they metaphorically tell about the situations and sometimes just the tempo of the songs goes with the mood

I dont know about the meaning of his lyrics( I need to have a major gilmore girl marathon), but the town Troubadour is awsome. I wish we had one where I live... I guess my town isnt quite as colorful as Stars Hollow.

OK.. Now i do have to agree that the troubador is actually saying something about the plot of the characters in the episodes he is in... If you don't notice he's not in very many, but the ones that he is in is usually a very angsty episode and we usually need someone to translate what's going on in the characters minds... I do have one question though...
What is the name of the song the troubador sings in "New & Improved Lorelai"?
Lyrics:
"Making you an offer.
Still runs great.
Looking for a brand new start.
A special one time deal on a pre-owned heart.
A special one time deal on a pre-owned heart."
I love this song... It totally has fit me and my life on more than one occasion... If anyone can help me out with this one... I will be forever greatful to you... I want to find this song...
I personally think they should make another CD of songs from the show.... make it a multi-CD collection with all the songs from the show... long, short, happy, sad... whatever they are put them on a CD and sell them... they would probably get a ton of more money from fans if they did that... How many of you are like me and love the troubador's songs and would love to own a CD of just his songs... maybe it's just me but i hope it's not... if it is... well than, I guess I'm a dork... oh well... I'll be proud to admit it....
Thank you to any of you that try to help me...

I think the songs that he sings are existing songs - songs that play on the radio but that have to do with the episode in some manner. I don't think that he sings original material very often. Though, as it is Sam Phillips, I wouldn't doubt that there has been an episode where he wrote a song specifically for the storyline. He's written songs for GG so it's most likely the case. I just like how they use songs that are recorded by other bands but he plays and sings them so very well!! I love the character - GG and Stars Hallow wouldn't be the same without him!

I feel this could probably be merged. We don't really need more that one troubador thread do we? I dunno, it's not up to me, I'm just going by what I've seen previously.
As for his songs, some (Like the Taylor one!!) are obviously written for the show, and like Mel said, some are original songs

I can't help but notice people referring to Sam Phillips as "he" and being the Troubadour... The Troubadour is played by
Grant-Lee Phillips
(of Grant Lee Buffalo fame). Sam Phillips is
a female singer
that wrote songs (mostly original score stuff) for the show.
