I will concur with the idea that he is just not a nice guy. He is inconsiderate, rude, and just doesn't care about those around him. And in a strange way, it only makes sense that he treats Logan the way he does; being the heir to the family fortune, Mitchum wanting him to take over the family business, his only son, yadda yadda yadda.
