"working blue", I think, refers to talking dirty, using curse words, etc.  Like when a comedian's act is full of four-letter words and not suitable for children, they say the act is "blue".    Shocked

I'd like to clairify that "blue" referes to sexual inuendo in humor, less to do with curse words, more to do with double entendre!

I'm not american, so I could be wrong, but isn't a blue worker someone from the working class?

I finally got the reference in The Deer Hunters, where Lorelai calls Headmaster Charleston "Il Duce". It referrs specifically to Mussolini, who was in cahoots with Hitler during the Second World War.

That's a blue collar worker, which is still a different thing from working blue, which is about sexual humor.

In season 4- Nag Hammadi....  Lorelai comes up to Luke at the bonfire where he was just talking to TJ and TJ said "you're a dick"  Lorelai says "I just caught the tail end of that conversation, and I assume you're not changing your name to Richard"  At first I thought she was talking about her father, but that doesn't really make sense, especially since Luke doesn't know her father.  Any thoughts?  thanks!

She didn't mean her father Richard, she meant the name Richard in general. Dick is a nickname for Richard.  "Dick also means an "ass".  She was joking around.

Hi gilmoregfan,
I'm sorry but there are already two threads where you can ask those kinds of questions.
What are they talking about #1. Noooo... this is gonna bug me! -- this thread is for aksing questions about GG references. Your question has alredy been asked and answered there.
Don't forget about The Q&A Thread

As I said before, don't forget to take a look at the Forum Rules. I hope you have a happy posting in the future.

Asking for community points isn't going to win you any. Merging this with the appropriate thread.

Since Amy Sherman-Palladino was born in 1966, where does she get all the references to 1960s and early 70s events and humor? I thought she must be much older to be so familiar with that era.
