the quotes within quotes is making me dizzy, so i don't reaaly know who i am agreeing with ok? but i really like what is above my head.
I like the many points made. I would add, writers of episodic TV (that also has a running storyline - series arc) have to do a couple things - move along the story line and also give the motivation for it, AND create the drama and conflicts that resolve within one show or hang as a cliffhanger for another show. Ok, i am not telling any tales, we all know this. But what i mean is, i think writers get into this rut like "Oh, who is gonna grow another hand off the side of her face this week - or did we already do that too many times?
I believe that people behind TV shows MISTAKENLY believe that all of the viewers want outrageous, conflicting, darkly strange and tear jerking CRAP to happen on these shows, when in reality, plenty of people are fine with a bit of drama but MORE fine with great dialog, some happy endings, friendships, good love-relationships. I think many of us tire of yet another illegitimate child (i don't have any - well, none that i know of...) and we just wanna see some great moments and some challenges and surprises. But OY with the POODLES and the breakups already! I can get that right here, ok?
Sex and the City dealt with a lot of these same issues, but did it with more class than a lot of these so-called "family shows" if you ask me, ok, there were some fun words thrown in, but i mean, they stayed away from the hackneyd (sp?) cliches of "Oh he has a kid" except Miranda did get pregnant- but that is different than a skeleton) and they managed to deal with serious things, without me saying, "Oh COME ON!" even one time. And people got married, and people had soulmates in the end... So if Sex and the City can do it, how come GG managed to mangle itself?
PS. i agree with Dani257 (i think) or whomever said, "Why did they waste time on Zach with our Girls having so much more to wrap up. AND HOW! What about the Emily / Lorelai relationship? Or even Logan and his parents - would be more important than Zack changing diapers or whatever. He got cringy and boring to me at the end of this season........ I liked the BAND quite a bit better i think than Zach the dad - all in all.

No one is asking Rory to let go of everything else, that’s what I’m hung up on (well one of the things). No one is really asking her to let go of anything. I’m all for reaching for the stars and all, I just think people can reach for more than one at a time without the stars interfering with each other and causing a new big bang.
I honestly didn’t see Rory’s no as having anything to do with Logan’s job (and his motivation) other than the location, not that she said anyway, her no was all about her options. Maybe we could derive that his career would hinder her but I didn’t hear it anywhere. No job is permanent (rarely anyway) and anywhere they went they would have had to deal with the possibility of job changes and the moves required by it, that’s not only a result of marriage especially if they really were going to factor each other in anyway.
As far as the rental, what I meant there (even though I now realize that was not response to my comment) was that it doesn’t automatically imply permanence. Renting and buying alike I guess, although it
is
easier to move from a rental than to sell a house. Renting has been easier for me to make temporary when I needed to, short leases and the ability to break them if needed, etc. But you’re right there are people that live in the same rental house or apartment most of their adult lives, especially in the bigger cities where housing is so costly.
Okay, I know nothing about Paul Reiser’s personal life despite liking Mad About You. How were his talks before an official proposal different from anyone else’s? His wife told him she would say yes? Doesn’t that question come in up any marriage talks? Consideration/conversation doesn’t always equal a yes, of course, but that’s what the talk is for even if the fact that the talk itself is hypothetical - it always will be because the official question is not being asked.
Hey, they’re getting shorter!
Hmm, pole dancing. Now that takes coordination.
Oh boy, moving quickly again, maybe it won’t be short at all. The hospital
zed
, how did I miss those? There was the ‘you belong to me’ convo. That could be pretty Heathcliffy. (Never seen Wuthering Heights but it does make sense to me, I think.) I would agree that Logan was more Heathcliff because even in the 'you belong to me' convo he was the one fully admitting it first and making Rory realize why and that she felt (not any more, or maybe she really didn't in the first place) the same way even if she didn't realize it.

TOUCY TOPIC HERE...
I am curious, who found their soulmate /a soulmate-ish person and is currently with that person
Who is stil looking
Who messed something up (that would be me)
OK - this is personal, and your signif. other could read it. Maybe i am being to nosey - but i only wanna know as a matter of taking a poll.. OH, hey is that possible?
CAN I DO A POLL MYSELF? then it is anonymous. But i mean, we are batting about these issues, and only some of us have spilt the pork and beans about stuff. So i am just wondering - Well, is everyone out there hooked up and happy or are more people divorced or did anyone get locked in the baseement (i had Uncle Phil on, and this dude is way possessive - obsessive - over his wife, and she is afraid, etc. Abbusive. And then i thought - Gee this could be someone on the forum or down the street. You dont know, and here i am. lalalala, talking about this and that because i have been very lucky - or smart one or the other - i have never been struck by a man - just cheated on of course. But no physical abuse. No verbal abuse i could not easily handle. I guess when i "preach" i should remember - someone reading may have a bad situation, and i would be very sorry about that.
Ok, well, i just wondered is all. thanks

I don't know if Rory/Logan fit into the need for break ups that tv writers seem to cling to, but I do agree that they have this mistaken need for it. I'm not sure about the R/L break up, because that was done at the end of the story, not at the start or the middle. And, usually, they have break ups and couples with illegitimate children, and being stranded on separate deserted islands and all that muck so that people will keep watching wondering when they'll get back together. And, I think that's because writers have twisted Tolstoy. He said, "Happy families are all alike" which has since been bastardized (perfectly legitimate word) by television writers as "Happy stable
couples
are all
boring
." I think both Leo and the writers of television have it wrong.
And, pole dancing takes coordination? Okay, you can stop covering your eyes. I'm out.
Okay, if they never got back together I'd, um, I'd go out in the street and sing "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady. Even though my singing is about as lovely as my pole dancing would be.
Locked in a basement? I feel I've missed a train of conversation. Um, I'm single, always have been. Have no immediate desire to get married. Not opposed to the idea of marriage completely, but feel I can be perfectly happy and content single. Not sure if that's at all the gist of what you wanted to know.

And with Rory and Logan, the discussion has to be two-way. He didn't allow her any input in the planning, he just dropped the job, house, and avocado tree at her feet like it was a dragon head or something. And because of his choices, he is completely inflexible (or so it would seem) about his plans.
If Rory had really been ready to pick a place, pick one job for life, and settle down with a bag of tortilla chips, it would be one thing. But, like Lorelai in "The Road Trip to Harvard" she hasn't even gotten started with her big dream, she just graduated.
So if I wanted to fake it all out, not only would Logan have a change of heart (or priorities, anyway,) but Rory would get a job at the NYT after all (since she was first alternate or something and somebody had to back out.)
I actually kind of buy that the writers are taking it out on her character. I've heard of that happening. But she didn't seem all that shallow to me, just like someone who could keep her wits about her while the guy was trying to sweep her away. She's come a long way since she started dating him, and doesn't seem so eager to just deal with whatever comes along to be with him anymore.
Amen!
I understand that the Logan and Rory fans are just sad that they broke up, so that is why they can't see how unfair it would be for Rory to just get up and follow Logan around the country. I'm sad that they had to break up too. Or did they? I haven't read the spoilers, but there is one more episode left, who knows what will happen? Maybe Logan will realize how self-centered his ultimatum was, and reconsider. Maybe he will ask her to marry him again and say: " Marry me Rory, I will follow YOU wherever you want to go". Then Rory will say " I want to go to Palo Alto with you. ". And they'll live happily ever after. Hey, one can dream.

Severely OT because I’m getting weary.
Well they have classes for it... Pole dancing I mean. I imagine it takes more coordination than dancing on a bar and I’ve almost fallen off one of those so yeah more coordination that I could ever hope to have anyway. Now the singing that might make it all a little easier to take.
Who’s in a basement, did I type that? Who’s on first? Where
are
my pants anyway? Oh, she’s talking about relationships with maybe emotional, verbal or physical abuse and that us going on about true love might be hurtful or trivial to someone in that type of situation.
Engaged to be married in the fall. Quite sure he’s a soul mate of sorts, although I don’t really like the term soul mate, we are very much connected. Known him for a little over ten years and only dated the previous four. Happily settled in the burbs. Surprisingly enough I never had a strong desire to get married until four years ago, maybe a little earlier, and I definitely didn’t want a family. And no it doesn’t help me to understand Rory any more in this situation. If I had seen in him then what I see now I would have changed everything.
I believe you can create a poll on any thread for which you are the owner,

Agree with you both, and the person before zeddie w all the quotes. You can make couples interesting w/o keeping them apart, just takes work. Friday Night Lights this season is a good example. I'm guessing its harder to do that way, since its done so seldom. And On Logan/Rory, I'm guessing they broke them up thinking there would be a next year, as others have said its makes for a weird finale to have Rory in the thros of a new trauma. And time on Zack--well I guess it would be for the same reason, they were leaving room for Season 8. Which is why I think long running series deserve NOTICE when they are ending as courtesy to the cast and crew, and to allow at least the possibility of finishing the story and giving fans the ending it deserves. Very few shows do this for one reason or another (network execs mainly). The aforementioned Sex in the City did, but they planned the last season, knew it was the end. GG didn't so we're stuck. I am hoping for a movie update sooner rather than later.

I liked this episode.
The Kirk in the box was hilarious.
But it's hard to believe that the Gilmore's are almost through.

Kirk is supposed to be in the box for 20 days...? I don't think they skip 3 weeks, so Kirk will still be in the box, so that will be our last Kirk moment... I'm not sure if that is a completely appropriate or wasteful way to conclude his character- this is a question I apparently have to ask about every character now.

I thought I saw him in the preview for next week...so I don't think that'll be his last shot. Kirk is too much of a essential character of the town to end that way. That would just purely not be right.

Oh, really? Well, either it wasn't 20 days, or something doesn't compute... but either way, I'm relieved. Kirk is one of my favorite of Stars Hallow's quirkiest, and a finale without him in *classic* form would just not do. I mean, c'mon people, you're killing me here, at least give me some killer deadpan Kirkisms!!!!
