I've been avoiding this board because all I have had to say was negative, and what's the point really? Well, I remembered that the point is that I'm a fan of the show, and I'm upset with how it's going (and ending).

But I'll start with the positive first.

I love that SOMEONE on the show noticed the exact same thing I did. I was sitting in the cinema with my friend Adam and when I saw the title to the movie, I leaned over and whispered "How the hell did no-one spellcheck that? Happieness is spelled with an 'ie' not a 'y'! Grrr!"

I would have prefered it was Rory who noticed that though. It would have been a little more fitting. But at least SOMEONE did.

I did approve of bringing Mia in and referencing the Emily/Mia event from ages ago. It was the first and only thing in this whole season that felt like it had some ASP in it. What did NOT feel ASP was Mia being portrayed by a different actress. If ASP couldn't get the original actress, she would have rewritten the episode so that we never actually see Mia, or ditched the episode altogether and found a different way to revisit these old wounds. ASP would NEVER have hired a different actress. She at least knows how damaging that is to the suspension of disbelief. I just could not feel comfortable the whole episode because I spent most of the time annoyed at how different Mia was.

The writing, for the most part, has been disgustingly wrong (notice I didn't say "bad") this season. There have been brief moments where I thought, "Oh! ASP could have written that!" and those have been in Rebecca Rand Kirshner written episodes. She's not perfect, but she comes closest to capturing the ASP spirit. Maybe this is because she is the senior on the writing staff. If we cannot have ASP back, I demand that RRK write all the remaining episodes.

Which brings me to one of my pet peeves: people attributing DR for writing every episodes. He's only written three this season. This current episode was by David Babcock which marks his third episode for the show . . . and proves once again he is not ASP.

Logan is annoying. At least he's finally quit the family business. Maybe he can start to become an interesting character again. Arguments between him and Rory just annoy me and I'd rather be watching Babet saying something crazy or whatnot.

I find it interesting that when people like me point out that the show has lost its witty spark, there is that other group who valiantly defends the show in a way I find "blindly" . . . I get the feeling that if DR felt a good story arc would be for Rory and Lane to be abducted by aliens and travel to Planet IndiePopIzon, y'all would be on board and insist "sure, it's not ASP, but it is a new idea and brings new life to the show" . . .

To summerize: I haven't posted in months because I wanted to get at least half way into the season before I declared the doom that I see for the show so as to avoid the whole "give it a chance! it's only the first few episodes of this season!" wall I ran into when I last messaged.

Well, I gave it a chance.

And I'm still repulsed.

If there is a season 8, and it is without ASP (which it certainly will be) I doubt I'll watch.

And that will be the first time in seven years I haven't rearranged my entire schedule to make room for this show.

I agree about the whole Mia thing they had going on!!! What were they thinking the entire time that i saw her on the TV i couldn't get pass the point that she was not the original Mia!!! I thought that maybe it was just me but i am glad to see that i was not the only one who felt the same way!!!!

ASP wasn't perfect either. She was the one who used Sherilyn Fenn as both Jimmy's girlfriend and Anna Nardini.

Hallelujah! I am so sick of hearing everyone complain about DR.... maybe it took him a little while to get in the groove, but lets not forget that ASP left him in the predictament that forced him to use the storylines that he did. Plus, without DR... Gilmore couldve ended aftre season 6.

Totally! I don't support some of the things DR does with storyline but I think it has to be done. I love both DR and ASP! Without ASP, we wouldn't have this wonderful show and without DR, this wonderful show would have been long gone a year ago so why complain about the way he does things. ASP reused the same actress' on more then one occasion!

Sherilyn Fenn was both Jimmys girlfriend and Lukes ex aka Anna
Marion Ross was both Richards mother and the crazy flirty aunt in the 100th episode and at Richards moms funeral
Alex Boranstin who almost got the role as Sookie then got demoted to the rude Harp player in season 1 and then later was brought in as Ms. Celin, the dress lady in season 3 and 5!
The guy that had a crush on Sookie in season 3 was also in season 1 as a waiter!

I actually didn't mind the new Mia, I would have prefured the old Mia be brought in but the new lady did a pretty good job. I'm glad DR did it the way he did.

I liked her, too. Kathy Baker was also on Law And Order: SVU as Tim Daly's wife last week.

ok, people, ASP used sherilyn fenn for both anna nardina & sasha since lone behold, she was meant to be in the windward circle, and honestly, both characters & even appearance was different, feck, i didn't even know that they were the same until someone pointed this out to me.
Marion Ross playing Trix & Marylin, also intentional, and it wasn't like they stuck same the clothes to her when she was playing Marilyn.
Alex Borstein playing Drella & Miss Celine, also uberintentional, she played Drella since contractobligations prohibited her of playing Sookie. also for me, i didn't recognize that both was played by Borstein.
and yes i think ASP would have used a different actress also for Mia

Dean: You accept it. This town, it’s all you are, and it’s not enough. She’s going to get bored, and you can’t take her anywhere. You’re here forever.
Luke: It’s different.
Dean: It’s not different. You and me. Same thing.

Well, I would have. Mia was really important to wrapping Emily and Lorelai in a bow. I wonder, though, if Gilmore Girls gets extended, will Mia appear again? Who would they go with then, the original Mia or the recent, familiar Mia? Would they have to avoid bringing the character back to avoid choosing?

Not to get crazy about it or anything! But I dial my suspension of disbelief up to 11 whenever I watch dramedy, anyway. Maybe the next appearance will feature Angela Lansbury. Grin

I don't think it was the same as Sherylin Fenn, though. Jimmy's girlfriend was a great character, very "common sense meets Pow!" and she must have made a great impression in it. I'm surprised they didn't tap her for another character sooner.

I wonder if Mrs. Kim was jealous of Lorelai's open, honest relationship with Lane the way Emily was of Lorelai's with Mia? I wonder if Lane has a clue about how much mothers can sometimes disapprove of their children's Lorelai Gilmores!

I liked this episode. And if they brought Mia back for another episode it would be the new one, they wouldn't bring the old one back. I thought this episode was cute. I like how it started with Rory and Lorelai looking for a suit. I am a huge Logan fan, but I was glad Rory made him wait outside for her. My mom thought he was going to ask her to marry him in this episode. I wish! I love them together! Hearts

Hi, Summer!

Do they have writing and/or spelling tests in the afterlife? I think you need a few more classes. Why don't you have a nose or ears? How did you die? I don't even know what a "nife" is . . . but I suspect it couldn't kill me since you're just a ghost and cannot interact with the material world.

What's your favorite episode of Gilmore Girls?

As far as THIS episode is concerned . . . The Mia thing seriously threw me. ASP would NEVER have done that. It's just tacky recasting a character that we are already used to. It stuck out like a sore thumb the whole time. There is a HUGE difference between using the same actor twice as long as they can sufficiently play the second part different enough from how they portrayed their first character (Drella/Miss Celine, Jess' dad's girlfriend/Luke's babymomma) . . . . Imagine if randomly a different Asian woman was playing Mrs. Kim? We'd be annoyed.

Mrs. Kim is extremely different from Mia as far as casting goes.  Mia has been seen on screen once (maybe twice, but I’m not remembering a second episode) throughout 7 years.  Mrs. Kim on the other hand is in multiple episodes every season.  Besides, as has already been pointed out, the original actress that played Mia was not available due to a Broadway (or off Broadway) show she is involved with.  I would much rather see a different actress play Mia with the result of bringing the Girls together, than no Mia at all and some other contrivance to attain the goal that was reached.

If it’s perfectly fine to cast an actor in two different minor roles at different periods in time, I don’t see how you’re concluding that it’s not okay to cast different actor to play one character in her second appearance five plus years after the first appearance.  Let’s be honest, it’s just another reason to complain about DR.  I get that it bugged some people, but ‘who played Mia’ was not the storyline here.
