Ugh, I am SO happy that the line "Gilmore Girls Only" wasn't actually in the script of this episode.
Recently, the titles have been "original," but they were just lines in the script... eh.
But I think the very last scene of this episode reflected it. I really saw why the episode was called "Gilmore Girls Only," and that was GREAT.
I loved when the lala song came on in that last scene, it made me cry. When Lorelai said that "Well I know how you felt, mom" or something like that.
Mia's back! I liked how they played her in 5 seasons later, but the actress who played her changed... The Mia in season 2 was IMO a lot better... but maybe that's because she built that image for Mia that I've kept since we first met her.
I really like how these past few episodes have been highlighting the relationship between Lorelai and Emily. They're always fighting or something in the other seasons, but now they're able to see eye to eye. Looking forward to the next episode!
Is there going to be a gap between the next episode and now? Or will 7.18 air next week?

my opinions - did not read all other posts. too tired today. WARNING: THESE WILL BE UNPOPULAR I THINK. i do not intend to debate them though. I'm just real tired, but i wanted to post - just for my serious critique of this eppy.
contrivance re: Emily at wedding, but made for some interesting stuff. The format of the show is that Lorelai acts sort of childish and then rectifies it all in the last 40 seconds of the show. that gets very tiring to me. I have to cringe at her antics, even though i know she will "come to her senses" in a valiant effort to be the "bigger person" at the end. Whatever. I am not putting this in Unpop. Thread - cuz it is about an eppy, but i don't expect anyone to be very nice to me as i say i am tired of the Lorelai character arc / contrivances. There was a time for all of that - and now it seems they keep creating these reasons for fallout and discord
WRITER 1: We need some more fighting fodder for Em and Lor.
WRITER2: Oooo - i know, how about - they go to the wedding of that um - that woman that raised the girls?
WRITER1: But we cannot get that other actor [IS THAT WOMAN STILL ALIVE BTW?]
WRITER 2: So what, no one will care - hire someone else to play Mia.
WRITE 1: Right. This could be a GREAT FIGHT!
It's just all to - fake - sorry, i just did not care for all of it. So predictable, and like i say, the sun never sets before Lorelai suddenly becomes mature at the end of the show - despite Emily. blah blah Ginger...
Rory - did not like how she was with Logan. She acted childish, granted so did he, but that is not license for the OTHER person to do so. She did not just have her entire life cave in - HE DID. She should have stuck by him, and NOT thought SO MUCH about herself and her own ego and her own comfort level and her "me me me" factor. Spoiled. I know his "break" from his dad is supposed to have a high note to it, blah blah, but frankly i think the writing around it was so sloppy, it did not work for me. I was just bored and rolling my eyes at most of this eppisode. I GOT ROBBED - I WANTED TO SEE THAT SCENE WITH HIS DAD. NOt have Logan TALK ABOUT the gleam in Mitchem's eye.
How cheap and cheezeball can they get? Sorry, but the writing is lazy and i also was not that impressed with the acting. I was tiring this week of Rory's '"baby voice" - i wish she would work on that - it really is time for her to get a better diction coach.
I HATED that she did not give Logan eye contact at the car, or bring him cake WHAT ARE THEY 15 YEARS OLD AGAIN? RIDONKULOUS.
GOOD STUFF. I liked some of the scenes that i thought worked. I did LIKE the scene where Lorelai and Emily bond at the end, it was touching. But i don't like how it's tense thru almost all of the eppisode with just that one "nice zinger" at the end. I would RATHER see them having a nicer drive, not so much complaining about Emily's driving and all that. Honestly, it makes Lorelai look childish and Emily too strict and ridiculous, and sure i do know that such people DO EXIST, we have talked about that. Call me OLD FASHION i suppose - i crave a little MORE nice, geniune bonding, NOT just 10 seconds over Will Smith. Gilmore Girls can and should do BETTER THAN THAT. So, that is what i am trying to say. Give me some MORE REAL MOVEMENT toward understanding. The needle does not move, it just swings back and forth. Some of the snappy dialog was there - not a lot. Some jokes too. Oh, um - foliage growing on trees. ha ha.
Of course i welcome rebuttal and all, when i say i wil not debate it is only becasue i am very busy this month and also have been feeling too tired from the fibromyalgia. But i of course do expect and welcome disagreement. I will read it. Thank you very much.

the writing is getting sloppy, like they just want to end the show & be done with it. where are all the snippy quotes at? that's what helped the GGs become so popular. The fast talk & the "word smith" stuff. The last 3 episodes, the way they ended, I literally said, "That's how it's ending? Seriously? What the hell"...totally boring stuff. I hope, if they have a season 8, that it will not be as bad as the end of this season has been.
and what is going on with no previews? I know they do that when there is going to be a re-run the following week, but can they do that so near the end of the [supposdly] final season?

its seems overall through this season that either the actors are tired and ready to be done or the palladino wannabe writersw are tired and ready to be done. there are moments that bring back memories of the early years, but they are few and far between.

it may be a little of both, even though on the interviews on the DVDs, Melissa McCarthy herself said, "It's rare, as an actor, to have a steady job for years" so maybe they all need some reminding of this!!

I think Rory had a right to be angry and upset with Logan, especially since his life choices do affect her--he kept the whole business failure from her for a few weeks, and then skips out on the baby shower so he can go play with Colin and Finn (I'm so glad we haven't actually seen those obnoxious guys), and then he acts all closed and guarded when Rory is asking him what his plans are for the day and if he's going to the office. It's like what Rory said--she didn't have a problem with the fact the business failed, she had a problem with the way he's behaved since then. I really think she told him all that because she does love him and care about him and had seen him improve and grow, only to take this huge backslide, and she wanted to get him out of it. I completely related to her response. I do agree that the whole Logan-screws-up-Rory-gets-mad-he-chases-her-they-make-up storyline is getting old, and it would be nice to see some other conflicts. It will be interesting to see what kind of job offers Rory gets. If she gets a job in Seattle or San Francisco, what then?
This episode, and the last one as well, felt a little bit like filler, as if the writers are just biding time until they can arrange some sort of meeting with Luke and Lorelai or get them back together or whatever. I'm curious to see where they're going with the Richard storyline, and how Lane and Zach handle the early stages of parenthood. (Dani, I was like you and couldn't for the life of me figure out why Zach was acting so strange.) I want to see what comes of Rory's post-graduation plans.
And I agree that the premise for the road trip was a little random, since we haven't really heard about Mia since season 2, right? It made for some good moments between Lorelai and Emily, though, so I'm glad. They seem to be making some headway, but that always seems to be the case, and then something happens to set them back a few years.

I'm confused as to why Mia lives in North Carolina now. The last time she was on the show, in Season 2 I believe, she said she lived in Santa Barbara, CA. I know it's not really important, but I hate when there are holes in the script.

Personally, I don't think Rory should have been upset with Logan at all regarding his choices. It's not as if his life is directly impacting hers right now as far as business decisions go (unless she's thinking ahead to the future, but that I doubt). Some things should be thought and not said. It's okay for her to disagree with his actions and maybe even state that she is disappointed in him, but for her to just say that she's mad at him or imply that they're having "issues" is uncalled for, especially when things have been really going well with their relationship the past few episodes. I know I said early I was upset with her giving in and forgiving him for his actions, and I still stand by that. My feeling is, if you're going to make the effort to be upset with someone (even if they don't deserve it) follow through with it, don't be wishy washy.
Okay, maybe issues was the wrong way to phrase it, but I don't think when she was fighting with him (as opposed to talking about it to Emily) she was implying that anything was wrong between them. She was upset on behalf of him. I think it was partly worry for him. (Funny, my mom was also upset with Rory, and would have sworn she would have been upset with Logan. Who knew) And, what's the definition of follow through with being upset? You have two choices. Stay upset forever or forgive. Or stay in a state of perpetual limbo. Seems a bit extreme to stay upset with someone forever, and a bit weird if she had said "I'm going to neither be mad at you or forgive you, I'm just going to be frozen." I'm just not sure how you can follow through with being upset unless you're goal is to end up alone forever (I'm assuming follow through is meant for everyone, so Rory shouldn't "give in" to Lorelai whenever she's upset with her, or Paris, or Lane, or Richard, or Emily, or the cafeteria workers at Yale, as well as Logan).
And, in response to other posts, I don't see why it needs to take a problem being dragged out over multiple episodes to show learning. Why is it a bad thing for fights to be solved in the same episode? It's not like we don't see the process of how those fights get solved. If it were just, "I'm mad" Boom! "I'm not mad" that would be one thing. But, we got Rory saying she wasn't going to stop being angry because of a grand gesture. She relented only enough to hear him out, and then afterwards reconciled. And, we got Logan realizing that he had been behaving badly and that he couldn't go on like that. Would it have been better to see Logan go 3 or 4 episodes drinking and hanging around the house before shaping up? Would that have made his realization that it wasn't the way to handle things better if the bad behavior was stretched out? I'm just not big on forcing arcs when it seems that stretching out problems have to be done in a contrived way, instead of fixing them fast as they would be when people acted like people and pawns for drama.

Wow. We're a really divided bunch. Some of us are begging on our knees for an eighth season, but others are finding that the show has become sloppy and unkempt and that the writers seem to want to just end it without a bang.
For those of you feeling like it's become some unwanted task that needs to be finished (the show, I mean), how are you guys feeling about the whole "season 8" debacle. Are you into it? Do you
want
another season if you feel like its decreased in quality?
I realize this isn't episode-specific, but it does pertain to the quality of the epsiodes.. and this, of course, was an episode.

is it just me or does luke seems so tired lately?? its like he's just there and going through all the motions.. know what i mean? anyways the episode was ok. i think it was good for emily to see just how close mia is to the girls. her wedding if anything brought some clarity to emily.. also it bothered me that rory and lorelai weren't there when lane had the babies.. i guess considereing lane is practically an adopted gilmore, her bestfriend and second mom should have been there...
i guess we don't have a new epi next week???

Has there ever been a scene where Emily saw how difficult it was for Lorelai all those years ago? I'm aware of multiple scenes where Lorelai either knows (telling Rory that her running away was always going to be a big deal, hearing Richard say that Emily didn't get out of bed for a month, telling Emily that she hadn't lost her) or comes to the realization of how bad it was for Emily. But, nothing vice versa. I stand by my belief that this wasn't a case of the hellcat on wheels daughter spitting in the face of her downtrodden parents. It was much more complicated. I'd like a scene like the one in Emily in Wonderland where Lorelai begins to explain, only Emily is too upset over the potting shed to hear. Only, this time, Emily asks why Lorelai made the decision to leave. I think it's much more complicated than she felt like an embarrassment, although that touches it. I think it's a fundamental part of their history, and it shouldn't be a one sided look at understanding.

This season is so boring.
This episode BLEW.
I'm so sick of Rory and Logan. They have no business even being on the show, they're boring as individuals, they are a dull couple, their fights are pathetic, baseless and cheesily, unconvincingly resolved.
Emily wanted to go to the wedding.
Great.
I think this show is destroying my brain cells at this point.
