I’d just like to go back to what my original point was.  That was, as far as Luke selling the boat with a quick decision, if he’s going to change I’d prefer to see him do it for himself and not for someone else.

Do you think he did it for someone else?

I was not under that impression.

I mean, as I have made it clear regarding the quick decision issue, I don't think he needs to change at all. However, I completely agree that he should do it for himself and not for someone else and that is exactly what I got from this episode - that he did it for himself.

What was up with Miss Patty?  I have never seen her look less glamorous..no
makeup, like she just rolled out of bed.  It's not like it was an early
morning baby shower and they imposed on her with no notice at all.
Perhaps it was addressed somewhere here on the board, but has Liz Torres gone through gastric bypass or has she gotten a lapband?  She was on 'Ugly Betty' and she looked like she's lost a tun of weight.  Same thing with this episode.  She is still big, but she's not as full, and she has a lot of loose skin now.

I was also sort of seeing an implication that he was keeping the boat - along with a lot of his stolid habits - to be a picture of reliability to Lorelai. Things changing might upset her, even if it was something Luke was doing for himself.

When the discussion started turning almost exclusively R/L I started ignoring and skipping and must have missed it that anyone thinks he did it for someone else. I think I remember saying somewhere in here that I thought he did it for himself (but goodness knows it is hard to remember where I post what!  Wink )

Really? I missed that, too and I swear I really do read almost every single post. Except, as I said the R/L stuff.

Hmmmm .... so some think that Luke shouldn't change anything or it will upset Lorelai and others are under the impression that he will upset her if he doesn't change almost everything (my interpretation and slight exaggeration Smiley) about himself?

Cheesy Well, I'm feeling for TPTB now. What to do?

Well, it's a little mysterious. Lorelai got sad when he said "things change," and I wonder why. Was it that she wishes he had changed while they were together and that she hadn't broken up with him before she'd given him a chance, or was it that she doesn't want him to change?

I think the point was that it doesn't matter if she's upset he's changing, she broke up with him. But it also kind of makes me wonder if Lorelai had anything to do with him not going to the shower or if not going to parties was just another old habit he's breaking.

I thought that Luke's presence (or absence) at the shower hinged on a couple of things. Mostly because it was originally scheduled to be at Lorelai's house which may have had more to do with Luke's reluctance to attend than anything. Also, I know very few men that would want to attend a baby shower! But, it got moved and Zack genuinely seemed to want him to go, so that may have factored in.

i dont think she was sad about luke saying "things change" i think it was a realisation that things do change and she was missing it.

I didn't think she was sad either, but I didn't know how to explain it. You did it, so simply and so well!

We don't really know what she was thinking and that is the part that drives me nuts.  Yes the look on her face could have meant may things.  I just think she is trying to take everything in and it is hard to interpret things when she obviously has a lot of her mind! Too bad we cannot hear inside her head.  Smiley

Well, obviously anything we say about what she thinks is merely an opinion. But I didn't think she looked sad.

I've heard many people saying that perhaps the audience is meant to be confused because she is too. Which may be the point TPTB are going for, but I don't like it. I do not like that 16 episodes into the season we are still left with so little real knowledge about her feelings. It is part of what is feeding into my feelings of not really liking Lorelai right now. I am impatient with her.

I think maybe we 'heard' what's inside her head with the 'monkey, monkey underpants' thing and as Lorelai herself said, "It's a big bag of weird of up there."  Smiley I don't want to hear anymore until she knows. Frankly, I don't want to see her until she knows 'cause I'm tired of debating what she might or might not think. I would rather agree or disagree with what I know she thinks. They need to get on with it.

Which is part of my problem with this particular episode. It was sweet and funny and cute, but what did it advance? Not much IMO.

Luke is not against adding anything new, but he isn't interested in adding anything new for the sole purpose of it being something new - unless April wants it (ie. Disneyworld).

I agree with this very much.

I personally didn't like in season 5 how uncomfortable he was at Richard and Emily's vow renewal. I felt him shaking his pants out was much more something Lorelai should've been doing. I didn't like that Lorelai and Rory were all packed up and aware people could/would be changing there (and why would he? He wasn't a part of the ceremony, guests don't normally change at the ceremony location of weddings/renewals) and Luke was in wrinkled pants. It was lame and seemed to be just thrown in to put him down while not making much sense. Did Chris change? Did Logan change?

Not quite sure what you mean by 'they need to get on with it'.  Get on with what exactly?  And I do think we know a lot about what she thinks.  She broke up with Luke because she didn't think he really wanted to get married, rushed into marriage with Christopher on the rebound, discovered she couldn't make herself be in love with him just by sheer desire and willpower, and right now is struggling to get back in balance after the failure of the marriage.  That's a lot of stuff, and she did tell Miss Patty she was moving on.  But give her a bit of time, please.

And to the comment on Miss Patty, she has lost a lot of weight.  To the person who posted somewhere in these 14 pages that she is suddenly looking old, its just that the skin on her face isn't so tight with the extra weight and probably water retention.  Losing weight especially large amounts often results in loose skin.

I didn't think it was all that mysterious - I was assuming that she was reflecting on the fact that they had used to be engaged and together. I didn't think it was in reaction to wishing that he'd changed sooner. A quick boat purchase does not mean an entire personality change!
