Just 2 questions.......
Why is it so important to vote at that "teavee" site......has anything ever happened as a result of that contest?

What is a "pretty-stick?"

The teavee.com voting is mostly just for pride. We don't get anything out of it and I don't think anyone significant hears when one of the shows win. After a month, the whole thing is reset and all the votes are erased so that we have to start from scratch so it doesn't really matter if we vote there but it is fun. You get to chat while you vote and really get to know the people trying to help save GG. It's fun! I haven't really had the time to go on there lately though unfortunately. Hopefully soon I will get to again.

You can give someone a "Pretty-stick" after you get 100 posts, if you like something someone has posted, you pretty stick them and they get community points. Again, yet another pride thing. If you have alot of community points, you are well liked. However if you have minus numbers, that means people have been "Snarking" you and people do that if they don't like what you posted so it's good to stear clear of being snarked. Wink

Sorry for such a short post, but is the CafePress up and working yet? Or has it been stopped already. Undecided

And sorry I couldn't donate to LDDC, but I have been trying to spread the petition to everyone I know. Forcing family members to sign, begging friends. Wink You know how the drill goes. Tongue

The CafePress situation is on hold until Heather gets back from her summer camp program on the 15th -- she's one of the counselors and doesn't have computer access up wherever she is.  When she contacted me just before she left she said that she had the designs ready but was having trouble uploading them -- the implication I was taking since it was on Thursday-Friday of last week was that the July 4th holidays were slowing down CafePress so much as to make it unusable at least for uploading new designs.

Thanks for continuing to spread word about the petition!

What is a "pretty-stick?"

You get the ability to add or subtract community points to any other MB poster here once you've reached 100 posts.  Giving someone a community point is giving them a "pretty-stick," taking away a pretty point is called "snarkastic."  I think I've even seen a poster or two with negative community points.  (-2)

I'm posting this more to say, "Hey!  I'm still alive!" than anything else right now.

The Petition Project FAQ

1) The purpose of this FAQ is to provide information necessary to get as many people as possible to sign the Gilmore Girls Season 8 petition at http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/great8mandate and then to promote the petition as far and as wide as possible.

2)  "I Want to See More of our Gilmore Girls, but why Should I Sign This Petition?  Amy said she wants to do a 2-hour movie in a year or two, so why Should I Support the Campaign For Season 8?"

The answer is an easy one -- just because Amy says she's interested in doing a Gilmore Girls movie in a year or two doesn't mean that it's going to happen.  A GILMORE GIRLS MOVIE HAS NOT BEEN GREENLIT and therefore, promises of one mean nothing until contracts are signed and it begins filming.  Promises are NOT good enough.  We have to campaign and we have to campaign NOW, for as long as it takes for them to SIGN THE CONTRACTS and begin filming anything from a season 8 of 8-to-13 episodes, a 6-hour miniseries Event (a possible compromise I Just Thunk Up) or even that 2-hour movie that IMO wouldn't be enough onscreen time to tie up all the storylines that were left open (perhaps inadvertently) in the series season finale.

Sure, Lauren soliciting from the GoldDerby.com chat what the fans there would like to see in a 2-hour movie is an encouraging sign, but again, it's still not set in stone -- she's deferring to Amy saying that she's going to do a 2-hour movie "in a year or two."   Lauren may believe that Amy does mean to do a movie in a year or two -- maybe we all do, but once people take for granted that it's supposedly going to happen, it doesn't.  The naysayers also should be reminded that the Pretender movies were greenlit after the cancellation of the series but before the final episodes aired and the Stargate direct-to-DVD (D2DVD) movies were greenlit after the cancellation of SG-1 but *long* before the final episodes aired (one or two more episodes have yet to be aired and the D2DVD movies were announced 3-4 months ago) and the upcoming Babylon 5 D2DVD movie being released at the end of July is filming a *decade* after the series ended.  So NO ONE should take the promise of a movie for granted no matter how much you might trust the persons talking about it.  Movie revivals that are greenlit *after* the final episodes have aired -- the Farscape miniseries, the Serenity movie -- happen *because* of relentless continuing fan support for them, period.

3) So sign the petition already at:  http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/great8mandate

4) Circulate the petition and Mandate link through your email lists, ask your friends to sign the petition, Digg it (more below) and then forward it to other friends

5)  Post the link everywhere you can -- on other message boards having to do with Gilmore Girls, more general shows having to do with Television, MBs dealing with Women's Issues and Women's Rights, or any MB where you either know that there are a lot of Gg fans (even if it's not even remotely Gg or TV-related).  The further away you get from TV-related sites, the more you should please respect the given MBs' policies on Off-Topic Posts.  Some of them don't allow it, some of them DO allow it as long as you start the subject header with the abbreviation OT as in "OT: Please sign the “Save Gilmore Girls Petition."  Please only post such OT posts where you are sure they'll be welcome when it's a non-TV related MB.

6)  Add the petition link and a link to the most current page of this thread to your siggie on ALL message boards you belong to.  ESPECIALLY if it's not a Gg or TV-related MB.  Even if you haven't started an OT thread on that MB, including a link in your siggie may (and often does) get noticed by someone on the given MB who likes the show and *then* that invites thread drift that is better served by then creating an OT thread on that group.  IOW, including the links in your siggie is a great way to test the waters for how discussing the show in that group might or might not be encouraged.  Also, even if no discussion may break out, other posters may follow the link anyway.

7)  Encourage everyone who has signed or will sign the petition to Digg the site or otherwise recommend it to various social networking/news exchange websites -- the petition includes as a matter of automatic function links to over a dozen of these sites, including Digg.  Digg is easy to register for by clicking on the link at the petition, registering and verifying (which is almost instantaneous after filling out the form and clicking on their verification email) and then clicking on the Digg icon on the petition again, sending you to the Digg site, where you'll click "Digg" right underneath the big Digg rating number on the left.  Those of you who have already signed the petition and haven't Digged the petition, please do so.  Digging the petition will help to publicize the petition on Digg, which is among the biggest of these sites and please recommend to other people you know who have signed the petition to go back and Digg it.

Cool  There is no 8.  That's the point.

9) Do as much recruiting as you can to have as many people as you can sign the petition.  The only thing necessary is that the person(s) have their own email address, so you can have as many people in your family sign the petition as you possibly can as long as they have different email addresses.  I would *like* to have somewhere around 10,000 signatures by late July, while I'm on vacation to Southern California for Comic-Con.  I'm considering delivering the petition in person to at least the three most pertinent offices (Lauren and Alexis's management teams and Dawn Ostroff.)

10)  Get them to start posting here at the mandate after they've signed the petition.  They may be scared by the length of this thread -- but just tell them to dive right in because otherwise I rotate reposting of the various FAQs as reasonably often as I can (yes, that's a threat) in between bouts of eyestrain and migraines Wink and I'd like to stop that.   Wink

No news yet.  And oddly enough, that might be good news in and of itself.  The writers' strike sounds like it's closer and closer to happening, which means that production of movies and TV shows may come to a complete halt in September.  The entire new season of Las Vegas will be in the can by the end of August, though and Lauren's "Wife World Tour" may be nothing more than her trying to get in as much work as possible before the strike happens.  It's over DVD profit participation, and it looks to be an acrimonious strike that may last for a while.

Which will be the reason for any possible strike by the actors' or directors' unions next year.  Which means that the latter two unions WON'T cross the picket lines.  Etc.  If there's a long strike, then that's the more time that we have to publicize the efforts to get a real final season of the show.

Didn't know about it -- thanks for the link.  And yes, I voted.  The percentages are:

51.1% -- One Tree Hill: Peyton punches Brooke (3760 responses)

46.2% -- Supernatural: Dean punches Sam (3396 responses)

2.7% -- Gilmore Girls: Luke punches Christopher (197 responses)

Just found an article from the LA Times called "Revitalized CW seeks to regain youth audience"

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-et-cw11jul11,1,5697271.story?ctrack=5&cset=true

If the CW wants to regain a youth audience, it better re-think their position on ending Gilmore Girls which has a worldwide audience of 30+ countries.  Aliens in America due to it's delicate subject matter will not have the same type of audience Gilmore Girls had.

Keep sending those e-mails and snail mail letters to everyone..

Maybe they will wake up.....and realize what needs to be done...Bring back GG!

Season 8 because:

 - we need to know if Luke ever learns to swim

 - Loralei only opens her mail once a month and we wouldn't want her to miss her chance to win a million dollars from Ed McMahon

Season 8:  Because Lorelai would watch "Weeds" and say, "Hey!  Now I know what my life would be like if I married Jeffrey Dean Morgan!  That man and everyone around him is *cursed,* I tell you!  Can't even stay alive long enough to have a relationship with that son of his on that other show, the one with the guy that looks a lot like Dean, but his brother's name is Dean.  And to make it even more confusing Mr. Morgan's middle name is Dean and he played Denny -- one vowel off! -- on Grey's Anatomy.  This guy just keeps dying on everybody.  It's like . . . I don't . . . it's like Katherine Heigl's thing is to keep getting cast as women named Izzy, his thing is to keep getting killed off.  He's like Kenny, only we can understand what he's saying because he's not mummy-wrapped into his coat."

Here's why I've never really felt the need to point the campaign toward Amy Sherman-Palladino (especially the part I put in bold)

---------------------------

Deadwood Films Now Deemed "Doable, But Daunting"
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-News-Blog/Todays-News/Deadwood-Films-Deemed/800018515

The outlook for that pair of Deadwood wrap-up TV-movies is looking as bleak as Deadwood itself, now that so much time has passed, cast members have moved on, and, perhaps most significantly, series creator David Milch is busy getting John from Cincinnati off the ground (so to speak). "It's certainly on our books as something we're still interested in," HBO president Michael Lombardo said at the TCA summer press tour. But with Milch "exhausted" by his new baby, the exec allowed, "It will be daunting" to get the pics &mdash which were originally slated to start lensing this summer — put together as planned. Especially if John gets a second-season pick-up (so to speak).

Lombardo hasn't yet broached the topic with the otherwise engaged Milch, but when he does, "if David's game for this, then we will figure it out."

---------------------------

IOW, unless Jezebel James crashes and burns (and IMO, it's unfair to even hope for that), then Amy's going to be busy.  Lauren has the chops to produce and IMO Warner invited her into a formal producing role on Gg way too late in the season to really let her channel the direction of that second half of the season the way that she clearly wanted to, so IMO, the best persons to target for even a 2-hour movie remain Lauren, Alexis and Dawn Ostroff.

Now, change of subject . . .

Those of you who know about the Big Project -- please email me your wish lists.  Those of you who don't know about the Big Project (still not official yet) and want to know what it is, email me at [email protected] .  Those of you who are wondering why the changes on The Big Project are taking so long from my end -- it's because, yes, I'm going on a month-long vacation to San Diego next Wednesday and in order to remain in contact for all of that time, I've been busy getting my laptop set up to go wireless.

I need a good page for free or almost-free wireless hotspots in Missouri, Kansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California (including SD and LA), Colorado, Utah and Nebraska.  Doing the tourist trap stuff, too -- Grand Canyon, Four Corners, Buena Vista, Tombstone, Dodge City, etc.

BTW, the San Diego leg of the trip is all Comic-Con and I'm going to go to (among other panels) the Heroes panel (Milo's supposed to be there) and the Reaper pilot presentation.

  -- Rob

---------------------------
Season 8:  Because I'm packing for my vacation like Rory does -- with far too many books.  And reading while in the passenger seat of a car gives me motion sickness.  Wink
