Season 8 or bust!!

We should say that we want a new season even if Alexis has not the leading part or Gilmore Girls has more leads in the show, or Lauren and Alexis get not so much lines

I am sorry! I don't understand this thought! I absolutley LOVE GG, but it is Lauren and Alexis who ARE GG. As much as I would love for it to continue, I do not want to see a half-arsed attempt with either switching out actors or just referring to characters because the actor didnt want to take a part in another season. It needs to be Lorelai (Lauren) and Rory (Alexis) or I do not see the point in it. Don't get me wrong, the other characters are fabulous, but they are not THE Gilmore Girls!

I totally agree. I started watching because of the Lorelai and Rory relationship and it is/was the only reason I continued to watch. I love the other characters alot and I love the town and the friday ngiht dinners and Luke and Lorelai but to me, they aren't important enough to watch the show for. Embarrassed I have always watched the show for Lorelai and Rory! I can't have the show without them. However if we did get another season without Alexis, she would most likely guest star and come in for sweeps months so we still would get more Lorelai and Rory but not enough. Cry

Some random marketing/PR thoughts in between working on my PR plans for work.  Keep in mind I'm typing off my head with out much substance in my brain:)
The LDDC This will take more work, and doesn't include GG fans worldwide, but here me out.  What if we did a 50 box delievery to represent each state and their fans.  we could make the boxes realitive in size to the state... Texas gets a huge box, Delware, fairly small.  When your decorating the boxes with great8mandate stuff write what state it represents on the outside of the box. You need to touch people 7 times before whatever message you want them to remember sticks.  If you really want to screw with CW deliever them 5 a week for 10 weeks.  It carries out the campaign a little while and may build some momentum to get more daisies.

Ooh that sounds like a good idea. May be too big for us to accomplish though...but if we can do it, I think we should go for it! We need to do something big, something memorable, something that will shock The CW and this could be just that plus it shows how many people from so many different parts of the world love this show! all the spanish ones, done!  Wink

Cheers!!!

I was thinking, about the daisys campaign. When they do this tv presentations in shows and all that... why dont find out when they will be in the show and send a letter to the production of hte show telling them about the campaign, and asking them to give us some air time, we could send them some daisys and a letter explaining the campaing one day before Alexis or Lauren attend the show, and they can help us giving the flowers and the letter to alexis or Lauren on air telling them that these are from their fans and explaining a little about the campaing. In that way, we will get free publicity, we will know the girls do know about hte campaign and well, they will see the serious bussiness we are all in... Dont know, is just an idea!  Wink

@ sf49rminer -- I think your idea of consoldiating the LDDC into one target, THE CW, makes more sense than your later idea of splitting the campaign up to be delivered by state.  IMO, the latter idea makes the issue I had with adding ASP to the list of deliveries even worse by a factor of 50.  Even if were made as simple as asking Heather to pack the orders that she gets that way, according to state, that creates a LOT more work for her to do, especially since, in some ways, dividing the boxes by state would be redundant.  There's going to be a cover letter from the campaign, listing everyone who donated and where they're from, etc.  I don't think that splitting the boxes up by state is a realistic option unless we were, like, able to reach one million daisies or thereabouts and if that happened, the sheer quantity alone would probably give Heather a nervous breakdown.  Wink  (Mind you, a nervous breakdown for a good cause, but still . . . .)

Thus, my only issue with consolidating the LDDC into one target -- The CW (which, in retrospect, I probably should have done all along) -- is that we're obligated to do the LDDC as originally written except for the latitude of moving the deadline to a later date due to the consensus that the original deadline was too short anyway.  If the consensus of those who have already pitched in their orders to Heather for the LDDC is to switch the target of the campaign to The CW only, then let us know and I'll rewrite the LDDC FAQ to reflect the change to the one target.

@ LolaV -- I see what you're saying about a campaign directed toward Amy.  I think that the letter-writing campaign that makes Amy one of the choices is about all we can do at this point given Amy's situation with Jezebel James.  Put Amy into your rotation of people you're going to write letters to -- even send daisies to her via that office address (under the Operation: Daisy Duke campaign), but that's pretty much all that I think would be effective at this point.  Moreover, the collapse in negotiations was between the network and the two actresses, so since Amy has already said that she's interested, it's more a case of needing to juice up the network and actress's (-- es', depending on who you think was less amenable to coming back) than in convincing Amy.  Still, that's no reason not to send Amy a thank you letter for showing interest in a 2-hour movie and perhaps a request/suggestion of, "Do you think you could get them to agree to something a little bit longer to tie up the too-many storylines, say a 4- 6- or 8-hour miniseries Event?"  In that context, writing Amy couldn't hurt, but I think that aiming a full-campaign project solely or primarily at her would widen the focus too much.

Here's an example of a late, mid-season replacement-ish renewal that was just announced yesterday:

---------------------

from the hollywood reporter

By Nellie Andreeva

As expected, ABC is bringing back veteran comedy "According to Jim" for a seventh season.

The network has ordered 18 episodes of the sitcom, which didn't land on the network's fall schedule but remained in serious consideration.  (HR 6/11).

Back in May, ABC canceled another long-running domestic sitcom, "George Lopez," but kept "Jim" alive, postponing pickup decision of the Jim Belushi-starring series until after the upfronts. (HR 5/15)

"Jim," from ABC Studios and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, has been a solid performer for ABC, which has struggled to launch a hit
new comedy in the past five years.

----------------------------

So with that in mind, let's consider a couple more things:

1) Yes, ABC was actively postponing its decision on AtJ, which, BTW, the CW could have done with Gg rather than unceremoniously announce its cancellation with only two weeks left in the season.  But nevertheless it shows what *can* happen to even a crappy show like AtJ.  (Clearly, ABC was dearly hoping that NBC would cancel Scrubs so that ABC could pick it up themselves like they were threatening to, BID.)

2)  Yes, this means that AtJ's props and sets had remained in place (or at least, in temporary storage) whereas Gg set pieces have been sold off, given away or appropriated by cast members.  Meh.  Total non-issue.  Props can be rebuilt, sets can be rebuilt.  If/when Amy were to do a Gg revival, all of these things would have to be rebuilt anyway and the budget for such a revival would account for it.  This would be one incentive to push for as many episodes of a revival as possible -- the costs can be amortized over more hours than just two and thus, they could become even more ambitious in the storytelling and the new sets that they could build for any revival.

3)  AtJ has been commissioned as a midseason replacement.  18 half hours equals nine-one-hours or well within the 8-to-13 hour range that the Gg actresses were looking for -- more or less at the low end of that range, in fact.

So we've got yet another precedent (one that VM fans were hoping would be their precedent, but well, I'd rather AtJ set the precedent than have *no* precedent in this direction):  renewal/revival long after the Upfronts have been announced.

ETA:

@ Regarding the petition.  In order to reach 10,000 signatures by the end of July, we've got to acquire at least 246 honest, unique signatures a day, based on the current count of 3,122 signatures and a 28-day timeframe.  That's a little over double the current pace.  So we need some ideas to get signatures from people that you know in real life.

So we need ideas for real-world campaigns such as:

1) Have Gilmore parties every Tuesday night at 8pm (or whenever Gg airs in your area, US and internationally).  Even if you've got a couple of friends that you always watch it with, invite an additional 3-4 friends, *different* 3-4 friends, each week.  Have them do their own Gilmore parties and have them start their own email trees to get the petitin signed.  IIRC, one of the tendencies that Gg viewers have is to watch the show alone.

and

2)  I'm all out of real-world ideas, that's the point.

Keep in mind that regardless of the pace, we *will* get to 10,000 signatures -- I have no doubt about that.  But I'd rather be able to deliver them in person when I'm on vacation in a month than wait and have to send them by mail later.  So what can we do to pick up the pace even more?

The Petition Link:

Just my thoughts:

1. Is it possible to send an reminder with the Petition Link to all the Members of Gilmore Girls. Org?  This may bring alot more signatures to the petition.

2. Can we post in the International Discussion in the Native Language of that forum a simple reminder of the Petition Link (Even if we have to use a online translator).

3. We must as a team keep posting the Petition link to any website we find remotely connected to the Gilmore Girls.

4. I am constantly looking for websites to post the petition Link.  Will post those that I find.

I am all for targeting the CW with the daisies for now.  Lauren is off filming somewhere and I am not sure how we would know when Alexis will return from Greece.  The CW is where the negotiations STOPPED!  They may have not liked the counter offer of 8 episodes but they seemed to just "take their ball and bat" and go home!  That is really not "good faith bargaining!"  AND, hopefully, they might feel just a little embarassed about how the cast found out.  Luckily for them, no one has really "let loose" on how they felt about being told at say...a video store!
Just my opinion....

Season 8:  Because Rory and Lorelai (more Lorelai) hasn't gotten all of her "diner talk" down yet.  (I'm not sure Rory wanted to learn much of it, though.)

This I 100% agree with.  I think that there have been some great ideas with targeting everyone, but the negotiations ended on the CW's side.  Alexis and Lauren may not have been 100% sure about continuing, but if the rumors hold true, Alexis countered and it was the network that didn't go for it.  So at some point, exhausted or not, the actresses were willing to come back.  I think that all of the daisies should definitely go to the network, because as was said before, if it's a big enough splash, the actresses will know about it.

@ anyone who will listen (er...read)-  Are press packets still going out?  Even if the answer is no, someone please let me know.  I have a list of Texas newspapers (small, large, and otherwise) and the contact info for all of them.  Most of the papers are smaller community newspapers in and around Houston.  Since it is Alexis' hometown maybe, just maybe, we can get a special interest piece in at least one of them.  I am more than happy to contact them on my own, BUT I'm not familiar with doing that kind of thing, and I'm not sure what to say or how to say it, in order to get our foot in the door.  Again, if there is something organized for me to send, please let me know, but if there is not I will do it on my own.

 -- Rob

I don't have enough friends that like GG to have a party every week but all my friends who do love the show have email addresses along with all my family members so I will get them to sign! I think we can do this by July, no doubt in my mind. We just gotta get more people to listen to us but I don't know how we can pass the petition link on any more then we already have, the things Frannie530 suggested sounds good. Also whenever we find a forum to post the link at, I think we should go over there in teams of like 4 or 5 cause I find that whenver things like this are posted, we get attacked for it and the people willing to sign won't post and say they support us in fear of getting attacked or in fear that they will look like an idiot. If we go over there in teams and show that more then one person supports the cause, I think it would bring more people out of their holes!

Thanks Frannie350 for posting those links, I'm going to try and help you email some of those sites but I'm only fluent in english so I don't know how much help I would be. I think the girl who runs pretty-genes.fan-site/org goes on fanforum and I think she speaks english. I could be wrong though so... Undecided

The Petition Link:

Just my thoughts:

1. Is it possible to send an reminder with the Petition Link to all the Members of Gilmore Girls. Org?  This may bring alot more signatures to the petition.

I tried to ask Heidi about 3 weeks ago.  Ask Heidi again.  As many of you as you can, ask Heidi.

Quote
2. Can we post in the International Discussion in the Native Language of that forum a simple reminder of the Petition Link (Even if we have to use a online translator).

Working on that.

Quote
3. We must as a team keep posting the Petition link to any website we find remotely connected to the Gilmore Girls.

Exactly.  But we shouldn't be depending ONLY on petition links.  Word of mouth.  If you have local bulletin boards in your town, post fliers with the website for the petition and the Mandate thread on them on pull tags ala any apartment rental search that has phone number pull tags.  Post them to every single bulletin board you can find in your town and every single bulletin board that you can find in your college (yes, even though it's summer).  If you know of local stores that can also be approaced (some of them even have their own bulletin boards), then either post a flier on their bulletin boards or ask them if you can post it on available wall space or at the counter or whatever.

Quote
4. I am constantly looking for websites to post the petition Link.  Will post those that I find.

We also need more ideas for interaction in the real world.  Such as:

@ Nvr2old4GG -- Regarding Press Packets.  I'm going to be working on a new one this weekend.  I'll be sending out major ones to newspapers and calling on ideas for where to send more of them.  Once it's written, I'll also be finding a place to put a link to a word document that others could send to various publications that I wouldn't touch (various teen magazines for instance, since I'm 37).  Press Packets more or less have to be done on a monthly basis.  Fortunately, July and especially August tend to be slow news months and everybody's bored with the ex-con I euphemistically refer to as French Capital Hotel.

Certain projects -- okay, the Cafe Press thing, depend on the big project that divine, her brother and I are working on right now.  We're working on as many kinks as we can before unveiling it.  We're worknig on it and hope to reveal it within the next 4-5 days.  It involves consolidating and rewriting the projects that we have now and there are *still* going to be kinks to work out.

ETA -- I just posted a comment to the Atlantic Telegraph article.

Just one more little idea.........If the stars are "aligned" with us and Lauren finally wins the Emmy she so richly has deserved for the past 7 years....wouldn't that be a great time to bombard both Lauren and Alexis with daisies???  The fall season would be kicking off....and they might have finished filming a portion of the movies that they were cast in, in the early Spring. They would have/or have had some time to reflect/rest.  Maybe they would finally start to miss working on GG. The realization that having a steady, fulltime and successful series might mean more to them!
Looking at network TV, there aren't that many shows that give "Major Storylines" to a mother/daughter.   Especially a 40 year old mom with a grown daughter!  They do have a corner on the market in that particular category.  I noticed that Kyra Sedgwick (nearly the same age as Lauren) is getting producer credits for "The Closer." But that isn't on one of the major networks.  And I loved a comment Kyra made about and to her fans.  When they tell her they love her AND  "Brenda Leigh Johnson" she tells them that she "loves Brenda Leigh Johnson" herself and that is why she inconviences her family by leaving and travelling to L.A. for 4 months a year to film "The Closer."

I know that there are people who don't think the "Girls" would be the "Girls" without Alexis as Rory.  I love Alexis as "Rory!"  I would like to believe, however, that if there were more episodes, she might soon feel "left out," if filmimg began without her being signed for more than guest appearances.  I think we have all been in a situation where we have gotten frustrated with arrangements and just accepted the "cancellation" of something only to be envious of those involved with it, when it finally got organized!  That is what I hope would happen here...........   So I guess what I am saying is the "carrot" might have to be different for Alexis than Lauren and the rest of the cast!

Still sooooo hopeful for season 8...in any form!
Nvr2Old4GG

Season 8 : Because Gypsy and Ceasar might have a secret thing going on, just like Miss Patty and Taylor!

@Rob  It wasn't me who talked about press packets......someone near my post but not me.
