Good morning everyone from your friendly Gilmore Girls postal worker ... LOL ...

My house currently looks like the Great8Mandate post office ... it's pink and hearts and there are daisies in every form you can possibly find them, envelopes, stamps, poster mailers, etc. Smiley

I have been out since 9 a.m. getting some of the things we need.  I have gotten two poster mailers, but the supply store I usually go to doesn't have anymore in the size I need, so I'm going to go to another store this afternoon.  Please remember I'll be mailing Dawn's poster around Monday when I'm able to get it printed since our printer ran out of paper.

I will be taking pictures of the posters, their packages, etc., so I will post those late tonight.

That said -- keep the donations coming!  I could feasibly send the fourth banner today if enough people donated so that I could get it printed at Kinkos. Smiley

Hmm . . . a show based on Parent-Child relationships "ends" with the storyline of a school commencement rather than with something more primally, directly about parent-child relationships -- such as, oh, "what has Rory learned about parenting from Lorelai and how can we not see that until she's put to the test of being a parent herself in some way?"

  -- Rob

Come on, Rory was about COLLEGE and JOURNALISM since day one. And what's with the parenting stuff for Rory? she's 22 damn it.

I didn't say that she should become pregnant -- and in fact, I suggested that the idea could be broached in other ways.  I won't reveal them because I don't want to inadvertantly negate any plans they might come up with if a season 8 or movie are greenlit.  IMO, the show needs to have a storyline in which Rory has to walk in Lorelai's shoes in some way as a parent -- and how that can derail your plans, including career, if you're not paying attention.  Like I said, it doesn't have to involve becoming pregnant.  IMO Alexis doesn't *want* to see that there are clearly more possibilities in storylines to take Rory in than she gives the show credit for (or wants to give the show credit for.)

  -- Rob

Season 8:  Because all of the Gilmore Girls (all seven or eight of them, I've lost track) should be all together in one place for at least one scene before the show ends.

p.s. to what I said earlier...  more of my comments to the CW

Another episode that I found very inappropriate was the episode where about the living pictures. When Kirk was cast as Jesus and made jokes while rehersing and portraying that role, I thought that it was extremely inappropriate, and made light of something very, very sacred to any Christian, no matter what their fath.
I hope that the show does continue, but I would hope that if it does more appropriateness be given in the area of religion, and not using it just as a cheap laugh.

I sent Heidi a Personal Message about this but haven't gotten a reply yet. I suggested another round of the Daisy Campaign. You know, using PayPal to collect enough money to send one (or two or three or...) very big bouquet(s). And maybe someone other than Heidi could organize it this time since she's done so much already.

I've put off writing this post for a while now, for fear of it making me extremely unpopular, but I'm going to bite the bullet and hope that I still have my ORG Forum friends when all is said and done.

To begin, I feel the need to say that I really, really (really) wanted season 8.  The Great8Mandate was born in February; back when season 8 wasn't on anyone's radar.  Back when you'd mention "Gilmore Girls season 8" to entertainment reporters and they'd laugh at the absurdity.  From early February until mid-May I gave 110% to this campaign.  At one point I was devoting nearly six hours a day to the site and Great8Mandate.  I exhausted every avenue I could think of to try and make the Great8Mandate a success ... and as we all know, we came so very close.

This is an incomplete list, but look at all we accomplished.  The Great8Mandate was mentioned on E! Online, TVGuide.com, Zap2it.com, BuddyTV.com, Courant.com (the Hartford Courant newspaper), the L.A. Daily News (both in print and online), About.com, ContraCostaTimes.com, etc.  And let's not forget the big one ... we won the E! Online 'Save One Show' poll.  We had the most votes.  We won.

I'm certainly not trying to take credit for all the accomplishments of the campaign (because this truly was a community effort); I only want to reiterate my love for the show and support for an additional season.

With that said, I just don't see season 8 happening at this point.  I'm basing my opinion on recent news and interviews, and also from Gilmore contacts I've made over the years.  There have been no indications by anyone or anything that season 8 is still in the cards.  I'm sorry.

I know that some of you hold out hope for a miracle, or perhaps want to see the show as a mid-season replacement.  And to you I say, "Prove me wrong."  I don't mean that at all in an antagonistic manner; I'm saying, "Please, prove me wrong.  Nothing would make me happier."

What will become of the Great8Mandate?  I hope it continues to thrive.  For season 8 supporters, please mandate, mandate, mandate.  If you believe in season 8 and have the dedication and passion to try and turn the tides, keep going.  Assuming anyone wants my advice or input, I'd be happy to offer assistance.

As for me, I'm going to focus my efforts on supporting a Gilmore Girls movie.  Even though I won't be campaigning for season 8, I'm still going to use the moniker Great8Mandate as it has been a great buzzword for our cause (CW and Warner Bros. executives/public relations people are VERY familiar with the campaign).  While season 8 might be out of the question, I still think the term applies to the overall goal.

To answer the original question ... am I willing to organize another Daisy Campaign?  No, not at this time.  Not for season 8.  However, a couple months from now will I be willing to organize another Daisy Campaign directed at Amy Sherman-Palladino to remind her that she has a community of fans waiting for a Gilmore movie ... absolutely.

Hopefully I haven't lost too many friends with this post.  I'm only sharing my own thoughts and opinions.  In the coming days and weeks I'll be detailing more of what I have in mind for the Great8Mandate campaign -- movie edition.

~Heidi

You have echoed my thoughts entirely. I would be thrilled with a two hour movie that everyone was excited doing with Amy rather than a few more episodes that the actors really didn't have their hearts into. That said, I  also know that sometimes the least expected things happen and there are those who would say many in hollywood can be fickle, known to frequently change their mind if it suits them.

I agree with you both. I don't see a season 8 happening. I mandated my little heart out, and I really can't do it anymore.

HOWEVER I will help mandate for a MOVIE! I think the movie is the only last hope I have for more Gilmore Girls. I think that in the upcoming months we should switch our focus to gaining the movie, but that is just my opinion. If you still believe that we can get a season 8, well then, I encourage you to do what you want to do. I just want to say that I echo the others who have said a Season 8 is *nearly* impossible. When the focus switches to a movie, heck, come and get me. I will put more of an effort into that than I did for season 8, which is difficult. The only reason I would try to do more is becasue it is ASP back. I didn't like how DR handled the season, which may be why I only did some season 8 things half-ass, knowing how he again would direct the sesaon.

I am sorry for my negativity, I just can't take the stress of mandating anymore, besides, now I spent lot of money priniting paper daisies and mailing and stamps.

Hopefully the movie will happen, which would be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Smiley

I understand what you're saying and respect it, but I want to point a couple of things out:

1) That discussion is better left for the season 4 thread.  But I'm going to break that rule anyway.

2) The story IMO wasn't mocking Christianity, it was mocking Kirk's obliviousness to his own flawed approach to method acting the part -- he was never successfully practicicing the role -- being cruel to everybody in the scene, particularly the Troubador, who was playing Judas.  Kirk's unChristian behavior in the story thus upholds the teachings of Christianity by being a parable about and criticism of unChristian behavior.

Laaaaadeeeeezzzzz an' Gennnnnulllmen -- and all you other Gilmore Geeks out there, it's time for another installment of . . .

Operation:  Daisy Duke!

Version 2.11 -- "The Search For Intelligent Life In Stars Hollow"

MISSION STATEMENT:  Our overall goal with ODD is to send real daisies to everyone who could possibly be needed to get everyone back to the negotiating table in order to urge them to work one last time to revoke the cancellation of Gilmore Girls.

TODAY’S GOALS for “Operation: Daisy Duke” are:

A) To ask viewers everywhere to send daisies on their own to Dawn Ostroff, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Amy Sherman-Palladino and/or Pater Roth (President of Warner Television) at their office addresses.

B) To max out The CW's viewer comment line by no later than 8pm ET / 5pm PT M-F, call 1-818-977-6878 as early as you can in the day, to lodge your complaint about the changes to The CW's fall schedule, about the cancellation of Gilmore Girls and the opportunity that shouldn't be missed to revive Gilmore Girls now that American Idol has broken itself by voting the real winner off in third place.  Although the goal is to max out the comment line, please do NOT call the line yourself more than once per day. [/u](Note:  I said once *per day,* not "once, period."  Wink ) Please get more and more people to call the comment line yourself.  The more people calling the better, the more repeat callers, the worse.  Feel free to mention where you're from, what CW station you watch, your age, how you feel about whatever happens to Veronica Mars and also about the terrible replacement for Gg in the 8pm Tuesday timeslot (HINT:  It's Beauty and the Geek, which is nothing more than the network conceding the timeslot to Fox.), etc.

C) To gently remind The CW and Lauren and Alexis that we think that virtually all of the show's complex storylines require one more season to be resolved.

D) To cheerfully and without malice and/or ill-will ignore Alexis's interview with TV Guide today and not get dispirited by it.  Minds can change -- minds that are 100% made up can be changed to be 100% in the opposite direction.

Without further adieu, I present to you “Operation: Daisy Duke.”

1)  Why "Operation:  Daisy Duke"?  Because it just wouldn't be a Save Gilmore Girls campaign without a bizarro pop culture reference coming from left field.  The show has made some very amusing equations between Lorelai and the hottest Dukes cousin, including having Lorelai drive a jeep (just like Daisy did), having Lorelai wear Daisy Dukes to her meeting with Headmaster Charleston on Rory's first day at Chilton, because Stars Hollow is the set where Hazzard County used to exist and because the exterior of Lorelai's house is the exterior of Uncle Jesse's house.  And because the many ironies inherent in the show's premise strongly suggest that we'll have better luck than Max did with his daisies.

2) Besides the obvious reference to the episode "Love, Daisies and Troubadours," why daisies?  Because nationwide flower delivery is faster than snail mail at this point (ie: next-day delivery) and it's our "tobasco sauce" campaign without a chance of frightening the network in these post 9-11 days.

3) Yes, the series season finale has aired and exit interviews with certain actors have been posted at reliable websites, but it's time to triple our resolve, not to give in! It's time to set up some infrastructure and dive into some serious save-the-show projects.  Lauren's exit interview with Michael Ausiello at TV Guide does NOT mean that all is lost -- she was taken aback by the abrupt cancellation of the series (no matter how much she tries to spin it) and moreover, nobody looks forward to auditions (as she mentioned to Ausiello that she's having to start doing), so Lauren even noting it is a cry for help.  Furthermore, Scott Patterson said in no uncertain terms in his exist interview with Ausiello that he is not happy with the way that the show ended.  MOREOVER, Kelly Bishop and Liza Weil both voiced their unhappiness with the abruptness of the show ending in a Washiington Post article posted on Tuesday, May 15th at
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/14/AR2007051401693.html (free and fast registration may be required.)  Encouragingly, Farscape got its four-hour miniseries LONG after the show was cancelled.  Firefly's "Serenity" epilogue was greenlit LONG after that show was cancelled -- and that became a theatrical movie.  Also, Amy Sherman-Palladino voiced interest in a 2-hour Gilmore Girls movie to Michael Ausiello at the recent Upfronts for Fox (where her new series is).  Not saying that Gg would go to the big screen, but the perseverance -- the hard work -- of these show's fandoms BEYOND their shows' so-called endings resulted in proper endings for those shows.  The sooner we voice our opinions, the sooner any sort of revival of the show gets made.

4)  Please send your daisies through your local florist.  There are many sources from your local florist to the internet through which you can send daisies to Ms. Ostroff.  Three of the biggest online alternatives include Teleflora, FTD.com and, 1-800-flowers.com, all of which operate national delivery services through local florists anyway.  Many of the online florists only promote $40 vase arrangements of daisies, which may be beyond a Gg fan's budget, but you can probably ask them to send a much cheaper bouquet of a dozen daisies if you ask them (Can't blame them for promoting the more expensive stuff).  A dozen daisies would likely come in a typical cellophane wrap if they're bought by the stem.  Order the daisies in the way that is best for you.

5) Send yellow daisies ONLY because that's the color of Lorelai.

6) Send your daisies to any or all of the following address:

Ms. Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment
The CW Television Network
4000 Warner Blvd., Bldg 168
Burbank, CA 91522-0002

AND to at least Lauren and/or Alexis (especially Alexis) at the addresses of their management teams at:

Amy Sherman-Palladino
c/o Creative Artists Agency
2000 Avenue of the Stars
Los Angeles, CA 90067

Lauren Graham
c/o John Carrabino Management
100 North Crescent Dr.
G-400
Beverly Hills, CA 90210

Alexis Bledel
c/o Flutie Entertainment
6500 Wilshire Blvd
Suite 2240
Los Angeles, CA 90048
Email:  Michael Flutie: [email protected]
Email:  Paul M. Brown:  [email protected]

Peter Roth
President, Warner Brothers Television
300 Television Plaza
Burbank, CA 91505
NEW! -- PH:  1-818-954-6000

You can, of course, send small message cards with your bouquet.  The rule is this:  BE POLITE AND POSITIVE.  Do NOT write anything like "I hate you because you cancelled Gilmore Girls!" or "I'm sad that you cancelled Gimore Girls" or "I won't watch The CW ever again unless you uncancel Gilmore Girls."  I totally understand, respect and even share those feelings, but, after all, it's not something that Lorelai or Rory would do in this situation.  Instead, write something like "Please renew Gilmore Girls!" or "Please uncancel Gilmore Girls" and sign it with at least your name and address so that they know how far Gg's fanbase has spread throughout the country and the world.

7) DEADLINE: EVERYDAY is the official deadline. Any day that Daisies or letters or voicemails or email arrive ESPECIALLY because the Fall Schedule was announced at the Upfronts WILL still help!  They need the input about what you think about the fall schedule (and don't say, "It sucks because Gilmore Girls is not on it.")

Cool  There is no 8 yet.  That’s the whole point.

9) Please post to this thread when you've sent a bouquet.  Even one hundred bouquets of just a dozen daisies sent to Ms. Ostroff will surpass the 1000 mark of daisies mentioned by Lorelai and increased by a factor of, oh, ten by Max at the end of LD&T and I am sure that we'll send a lot more than that.

10)  Please spread the word of "Operation:  Daisy Duke" around to other MBs and forums that have enthusiastic Gilmore supporters.  Some of the obvious boards are FanForum, the cwtv.com lounge, etc.  We don't want to annoy people, especially since there are people who post to multiple MBs.  But still, let us know which MBs it gets posted to and provide a link to this thread or to the Great 8 Mandate thread.  If you so desire, please copy this entire post to that forum.

11)  If you can't afford to send real daisies, then we have an alternative with the aid of Snail Mail:  Find a picture of a daisy, print and cut out lots of copies of them, send a dozen or two of them with your snail mail letter to the various contact addresses (Remember to BE POLITE).  And when I mean cut out a lot of copies of them, cut out individual squares or rectangles of the pictures, whatever shape the picture is -- cutting out the outline of the daisy over and over again would, of course, be Paris-level insane.  Enclose them in the letter when you fold it so that when the person has to open the letter, the paper daisies *have* to fall out.  One creative thing to put in the mix -- maybe sub out one of the daisies and insert a Great8 Mandate logo instead.

Let's spread the word!  "Operation:  Daisy Duke" continues!

  -- Rob

i do agree saying that there has been no good sign of a season 8 even though i write to them twice and week and call the comment phone on the CW network.  when alexis bledel was on the Late Show with Dave Letterman, she says it was time for the show to end because she was on the show for most of her young adult life and it was just time. well i really think they should do another season even if its shortened down to 13 episodes. we just have to keep our hopes up!! Wink keep emailing sending daisies and whatnot to all of them!

@Heidi, ckiddings, fantasy ...

I too am now convinced that a season 8 has become impossible, mainly because of the recent interviews of Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, and wether spin (I agree with you there Rob) or heartfelt (could they really?), going back to do a season 8 would be so ridiculous in light of their careless comments (as in, would make them lose face in such a major way) that I think that's a hurdle that can't possibly be overcome anymore. Excruciatingly sad, but very real. However, I have to disagree with you Heidi, when you say you want to wait and see what happens before campaigning for a movie (you may be totally exhausted after the G8M of course, so no criticism intended!). I honestly believe we should rethink our strategy and start focussing our energy, daisies, letters, what not ..., RIGHT NOW, and hit on ASP. If anybody can change Alexis' or Lauren's mind, Amy is the one. If anybody TRULY takes this show to heart and wants to give it the glorious send-off it deserves, Amy is the one. If anyone has any leverage with the guys in suits on this one, or knows who to talk to to get this thing started, Amy is the one. If anyone has uttered a single hopeful signal for the future of GG, Amy is the one. If anyone IS Gilmore Girls, Amy is the one. I think we should start approaching her NOW, now the wounds are fresh (ours, and probably hers, if she's in any way aware of what happened to her baby, and contrary to some of her statements, I'm guessing she very much is). I think we should go about it in a sophisticated and organized way, not randomly bombarding her with E-mails or letters, but each of us putting ALL of our love for GG, our despair at how it ended (and let's face it, our money) in ONE bouquet or banner or letter or card or drawing, whatever, but making it ultra-personal, eye-catching and worth reading (which I'm afraid isn't what's been happening with most of our mail). Maybe we can all center our messages around our favourite Gilmorism or our favourite scene (and hey, fellow JavaJunkies, let's not pick out the kissing scenes, 'cause that might get a bit boring for Amy, if not for us  Wink), making it VERY PERSONAL and showing ASP how invested we all are in these characters. I think we should keep it enthusiastic and positive, not waste any words on abusing David Rosenthal (who I think wasn't all that bad) or the CW (who knows what went on behind those doors), but focus on GG, GG and GG alone. I think we should all start NOW, because funding and all that other dreary stuff usually takes lots and lots of time, and we don't want to get this movie in 10 years time, do we, when Lorelai's had a facelift, Luke's in need of a hip-replacement and Taylor's dead. We'd all like to see it next fall (if that were only possible!). I think everybody who does something, anything, should 'report' about it on a separate thread just for that purpose alone, so we'd be able to keep track of all the goings on (I wouldn't even know how to start this thread myself, I'm so sorry now I'm such a computer nitwit).

@Heather

I think collecting all our names and ages and origins is an awesome idea and we should keep that going strong! (HEIDI, don't you have the E-mail addresses of all the 9000 etc members of this board and can't you automatically alert them of this campaign?!! Or update the G8M logo at the top of the page, including a straightforward appeal to sign on??!! I think the results might be very interesting, not only for marketing purposes, but for ASP as well, it makes things so much more personal! Thanks for doing a great job!

I completely agree with switching tatics and focus. A two hour movie seems like an actual posibility with positive responses from the actors. Amy was the reason, plain and simple. I would also like to see the movie sooner than later. Life moves on and momentum fades and I want to see the movie now while everyone is able to be apart of it and they still have the characters fresh in their memories! I know that they (actors) want to pursue other things, but perhaps they will be ready to start thinking Girlmore Girls Movie in several months and actually start something in a year. Nobody gave me a penny, but those are my thoughts.

I don´t think so. I think we still should fight for season 8 (9,10,11,12...) Grin because if we give up once, the CW will maybe never shoot a new season anymore. I DON`T WANT A MOVIE!!!
Now it´s the time we should be stubborn and should do everything for more seasons!!!
If we stop now, we maybe never get a new season. And at least all actors beside Alexis want to come back!!!!! AND I PERSONALLY DON`T NEED ALEXIS!!! IF SHE DON´T WANT TO COME BACK, FINE!!! BUT THAT´S NOT A REASON TO CANCEL THIS GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I WILL FIGHT FOR YEARS TO GET MORE SEASONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm . . . a show based on Parent-Child relationships "ends" with the storyline of a school commencement rather than with something more primally, directly about parent-child relationships -- such as, oh, "what has Rory learned about parenting from Lorelai and how can we not see that until she's put to the test of being a parent herself in some way?"

  -- Rob

Come on, Rory was about COLLEGE and JOURNALISM since day one. And what's with the parenting stuff for Rory? she's 22 damn it.

I'm 21 and my parents are still deeply involved in my life.  I think that is the challenge of a parent-child relationship -- going from child, to teenager, to young-adult to adult.  I think all of us here would be interested to see how those things pan out -- how has what she's learned from Lorelai going to penetrate into her real life?

And please, try and keep it to a positive.  If you don't like our thread, that's cool, but please don't bring us down. Smiley

Thanks.

I completely agree. Like Lorelai was saying to Rory at the end of the series season finale, she felt she had more to pass onto Rory, more to teach her and share with her, Rory said Lorelai had given her everything she needed and I don't doubt that for a second but lets actually see it please. I think that Rory still has story left, out of all the people with unresolved storylines, I think Rorys was the most resolved but I think they still have enough material for Rory next season, for instince, the job she got will only be temporary, like Rory was saying, she could be gone for "2 months or 2 years" that was left open, it was nothing permanent. The writers left things open for her and closed just enough for a series finale. They could come back and have plenty of storyline for Rory to work with easliy IMO. I came up with like 3 to 4 things in like 2 weeks, the writers can do the same!

And yes please don't come in here and bring us down, we are already as low as we can get, we don't need our faces slammed into the cement basement floor anymore! It's not going to hurt you because we keep going! We have alot of hope, faith and love for Gilmore Girls! Anything is possible with this sort of passion!

I've really been thinking about this whole campagne, and I'm not at all being negitive, if anyone thinks GG can come back it's me, i just have a couple of segestions. First of all we NEED more people, the CW is not going to blink an eye at this campagne unless they recieve letters/emails/daises by the thousands. While it does seem like alot of people have posted their names/towns/age and made themselfs official Great8Mandaters, there really hasn't been that many. IMO even if the whole 9496 members of GG.org was also apart of the Great8Mandate, we still would'nt have enough people. I believe WE can save this show, but somehow we have to spread the word and we have to get more people. I admit i have no idea how we can do this........but in order to save the show it has to be done.

Sorry if it sounded like I just rambled on, but I really wnat to save the show, and I think the only way we can do that is by getting more people.

And one more thing, I know that we are supose to be nice when we write our letters/emails. I understand thats the only way to get our show back, But the more I write the angeryer I get. This show was not suppose to end in its 7th season, thats ovbious by the series finale. And as much as I love the cast, I don't think I am going to be able to listen to one more of them say "I think the ending was good" (paraphrased), when Nearly every GG fan on the planet disagrees. I know not all the cast has said the ending was good, but all I'vheard AB, LG and SP all say that. All of GG cast seems to be smart, so you would think they would realize the series finale wasn't that great, and did'nt give any closure but I don't think they do. I know some of you disagree, but I blame the cast just as much for the cancelation as i do the network. They dedicated 7 years of their lif to this show, and they coul'nt stick it out for one more shortened season, tho give it the ending it deserved.

Sorry again for rambling, but no one in my hous likes GG as much as I do, and I needed to get that out.

anyway lets keep on mandating, ancd get more people, b/c as far I am concerned, this is'nt over until we get closure.

I have been a part of the Great 8 Mandate from the beginning and have faithfully taken part of all the campaigns with great expectations for a season 8! I still hope for it, and I am not saying that anyone should stop anything! What I was trying to do was add agreement with what Heidi suggested that we keep the Great 8 Mandate, but also focus on working on contacting Amy, who has a lot of pull with the actors!

Like everyone else I desperately would love to see a season eight, but I also want to pusue any and all avenues that will give us what we all want, more Gilmore Girls, whether it is additional seasons or if nothing else, a two hour made for tv movie. Not trying to bring anyone down-including myself-I'm a mad sad great 8 mandater myself, I just want more Gilmore Girls!!!!!
