After letting the content of Lauren Graham's interview with Mike Ausiello sink in, I'm left wondering why she can't remain true to Lorelai's character AND work a shorter week... (?)

To recap and paraphrase: She mentioned how they were having her be speechless in scenes, and that perhaps the writers weren't paying attention to giving her character continuity.

Then mentioned long schedules due at least in part to long speeches that would require dozens of takes at times was partly to blame for her exhaustion.

Lastly she seems to hint strongly that Lorelai's character *itself*  demands more than she can give it --anymore.

Can't long, rapid-fire ramblings be "composited" from several takes so as to resemble one camera shot and one take?

From what she said, it sounded like they have some impossibly high ideal that they are trying to live up to, where the same effect can be achieved with some good editing. Can't it ? Certainly that is a good reason to use  "reaction shots" -- so as to splice in the "good takes" in the appropriate places without having to worry about Lorelai's face "jumping"  at the splice point...

I'm sorry I have been MIA for so long, I was in Cape Cod for my sister's wedding the last 3 days..and my, oh my, has there been quite a burst in optimism and creativity here !! Once I take a nap and unpack I will fully participate, and I have my well thought out comment and newest letter all thought out...

Mandate on- did I miss Alexis' Letterman appearance?

Nope.  It airs on Friday night, the 25th.  It will probably be taped on Wednesday or Thursday of this week because Dave has let slip on the show several times that he tapes both Thursday and Friday shows on Thursdays.  (Sometimes, he's even taped Wednesday and Friday shows on Wednesday due to scheduling issues for the guests.)  The ticket request office is open from 10am - 6pm on Weekends, 9:30am - 12:30pm on Weekdays.  I've cut and pasted the full instructions a few pages back and will update it again later today, but if you live in the NYC area and are 18 or older, please at least find out what day Alexis is going to be taping her appearance so that we can post it here and hopefully get some Gilmore Groupies to send a homemade poster with fan signatures on it to her, if the show will allow it.  If you can get to the Ed Sullivan Theater on the date and around the time that Alexis's appearance tapes, wear your own Mandate logo button or just cut it out of paper that you've printed out and pin it to you or use double-sided tape to stick it on you as a badge of support.

I'll do an update on Assignment:  Alexis later in the day.

@ WeBelong:  Technically speaking, the show IS officially over.  Let's have no illusions about that.  The overall mission of the Mandate is now to convince Dawn Ostroff, Lauren and Alexis to go back to the negotiating table and officially UNcancel it to give it a real final season.  A midseason replacement run is currently not anywhere NEAR outside the realm of plausibility, much less possibility.

Sure, I want to see more of the girls, but when they don't want to make more episodes that have to be acceptable for us. Yes, I'm very sad and cried a lot. I thought about the last 7 years. It happened so much. I was 7 or 8 when GG started and now I'm 14. It happened so much with all of us, the cast and GG.

I think, that we have have to make them a "Thank you and Good bye gift". Maybe we can make a little video and everyone can say some sentences to them or we can make a CD. Everyone of us will sing the importend songs of GG and then we cut it together. Than are all of our voices in the songs. I think, that's the right reaction, then we can't do more.

Please tell me what you think about it.

Checking at 3:36 in the afternoon, today, Sunday, Paul Mcguire's personal voice mail is taking messages. He is VP of Media Relations/ Publicity at CW.      818-977-0040
I keep reminding to call him bcause I think this is a better chance to have someone of importance actually hear the messages. If he calls to check his personal messages, he will hear ours.
  Random thoughts....
I would guess that the person who offered to pay the $2 million so a Star Trek episode could air was probably Bill Gates as he is a well known Star Trek fan and has spent a lot of money on memorabilia. Now if only he were interested in our project, he could simply buy CW.
Throughout the series, it has been mentioned several times Luke's being a Trekker. He seems to be a science fiction fan, but doesn't know anything about Star Wars. Probably because he doesn't go to many movies. I think it would be interesting if William Shatner or another Star Trek crew member would visit Luke's Diner. Interesting possibilities there.
While reading messages here, the radio started playing "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. Perhaps we could adopt that as our project theme song. If I recall, that is the song Lorelai was listening to in her car while waitng for Rory and said it was a favorite. Good theme "Stayin' Alive."
Hang in there everybody.

The Networks have the upfronts to show to advertisers to get them to buy advertising. The advertisers want to advertise in programs which will be watchd by lots of people and preferably the kind of people who will buy their products. The affiliates (your local CW station) want programs which are popular in their area so they too can sell advertising.
From what I have read, the CW's new schedule was very badly received by the advertiser viewing audience. I think this gives us a great opportunity and potentially, powerful allies. Networks live or die because of advertisers. They have a lot of power with the Networks. Networks want them to be happy. Adverisers live or die because of us, we who buy or not buy their products. They want us to be happy. Moreover, they listen to comments received from the public. There are many instances of companies making changes because of hearing from the public. One of the big fast food chains stopped serving veal sandwiches because of a campaign by the public.
Rob, I think the Daisy and related campaigns are very good and I think they should be pressed on. (I too fear what Alexis will say. There is a history of actors forgetting how they got to where they are.) I think that with the rotten CW schedule and the advertisers' (and I would guess, affilliates') obvious disappointment, that there is a great opportunity to get advertisers (and affilliates) on our side.
Rob, I know you have mentioned contacting advertisers, but what i am suggesting here is a really, really big effort.
Also, contacting local CW stations again. All to get them to request that CW do all possible to bring back GG, possibly as a midseason replacement or replacement for one of these awful new shows which will probably last about two weeks.
Let's do a really, really big effort towards the affiliates and the advertisers and begin by calling the local stations tonight (probably tomorrow morning) and tell them how much you dislike the new schedule and please do all possible to get CW national to bring back GG. Then go after the advertisers, present and past, lots of phone calls, emails, letters, etc. Really, really big effort. Advertisers do listen to us and the CW will listen to them (and hopefully affilliates will help.)
I think this (and the Daisies) could work.)

I suck at writing press-releases -- I'm more of a listmaker and editor myself due to my training in stage manageing (especially) and dramaturgy/script analysis, so if anybody wants to write a first draft of a press release, I can get going on editing that and run it past Heidi.

As far as contacting affiliates and advertisers -- heck, yeah, let's contact them ASAP.  The more we press on them that this new line-up is awful and is made all the more worse by the cancellation of Gg, the better.  Keep in mind that some advertisers may just try to pass the buck back to us by saying, "We have no control over that, have you tried calling the network or your affiliate?"  Just say, "we have, we understand your part in the context of all this, and we'd like to speak to the person responsible for buying advertising time on the networks."

It'd be about G8M and the various projects we're doing -- ODD, the Poster Project, letter-writing, voicemail, etc.  Remarking how we undertand the passions of everyone involved in the show and at the network and how it can be difficult to let those passions make you want to change your mind.  That our goal is not to throw blame on anyone -- we just want the show to return for a 13-episode final season, the way we thought it was going to be until the cancellation was announced.  Add in quotes from Kelly Bishop and Liza Weil from the Washington Post article and the Scott Patterson interview at TV Guide.com about how they don't think the season finale makes a satisfying series finale and even from Lauren from her TV Guide.com about some of the more quotable aspects of how unexpected the cancellation was, such as not getting the fabled final words from Amy.

Also, ladyjedi indicates that the CW's Upfront wasn't well-received by the advertisers.  If any of you have read any sort of news articles about the advertisers reacting badly to the CW's schedule, then please post them here ASAP so that some of those reports can be quoted in the press release (and so that I can read them Wink  )

Heidi and Rob,
I notice that there are 9,292 members here and just keeps growing. Would it be possible to send to each member an email with Rob's "how to save Gilmore Girls" message as a Bulletin or such? I think many have forgotten or given up. Think what even a small percentage of 9,292 could do if they help. Think of all thse daisies, letters, etc.!
Can it be done? Many organizations send newsletters. I don't think anyone who signed up would object. I personally think one of our greatest enemies right now is that so many have simply given up and don't realize what can be done.
Read TV Guide's Ausiello Report for his first hand reaction to CW upfronts. He gives Life two weeks. Also read Kristen at E!on line for anther first hand report. It gives some audience reactions. If I recall, the one reporter said there was no clapping at the end.

     Hi Mona!

I think those are wonderful ideas:)

Right now, however, the energy is about acting as if   things could be mended; Lauren Graham's last word was that CW stopped trying to come up with a workable solution--not that one didn't exist; she infers strongly that she and Bledel would have said "yes" to 13 more shows, if the conditions were right.

Personally, I'd love to put a song together, but I'm so depressed over Gg being cancelled that right now, the best I can do IS send flowers and letters which show both my gratitude AND frustration. They should know I'm thankful, but also that I'm upset by how things played out, because it's the truth -- or at least "my" truth.

Welcome!  It’s time for another installment of . . .

Operation:  Daisy Duke.

Version 2.05:  Is Lorelai a Gemini?  'Cause She Sure Acts Like One.

MISSION STATEMENT:  Our overall goal with ODD is to send real daisies to everyone who could possibly be needed to get everyone back to the negotiating table in order to urge them to work one last time to revoke the cancellation of Gilmore Girls.

TODAY’S GOALS for “Operation: Daisy Duke” are:

A) To ask viewers everywhere to send daisies on their own to Dawn Ostroff, Lauren Graham and/or Alexis Bledel at their office addresses.  Details on format will be posted in today’s edition of the other Welcome FAQ dealing with the snail mail campaign later today.

B) To max out the comment line 8pm ET / 5pm PT M-F.  Call 1-818-977-6878 as early as you can in the day, after you hear/read about the officially unveiled schedule and lodge your complaint about the changes, about the cancellation of Gilmore Girls and the opportunity that shouldn't be missed to revive Gilmore Girls now that American Idol has broken itself by voting the real winner off in third place.  Although the goal is to max out the comment line, please do NOT call the line yourself more than once per day -- please get more and more people to call it yourself.  The more people calling the better, the more repeat callers, the worse.  Feel free to mention how you feel about whatever happens to Veronica Mars and also about the terrible replacement for Gg in the 8pm Tuesday timeslot (HINT:  It's Beauty and the Geek, which is the network conceding the timeslot to Fox.)

Without further adieu, I present to you “Operation: Daisy Duke.”

1)  Why "Operation:  Daisy Duke"?  Because it just wouldn't be a Save Gilmore Girls campaign without a bizarro pop culture reference coming from left field.  The show has made some very amusing equations between Lorelai and the hottest Dukes cousin, including having Lorelai drive a jeep (just like Daisy did), having Lorelai wear Daisy Dukes to her meeting with Headmaster Charleston on Rory's first day at Chilton, because Stars Hollow is the set where Hazzard County used to exist and because the exterior of Lorelai's house is the exterior of Uncle Jesse's house.  And because the many ironies inherent in the show's premise strongly suggest that we'll have better luck than Max did with his daisies.

2) Besides the obvious reference to the episode "Love, Daisies and Troubadours," why daisies?  Because nationwide flower delivery is faster than snail mail at this point (ie: next-day delivery) and it's our "tobasco sauce" campaign without a chance of frightening the network in these post 9-11 days.

3) Yes, the series season finale has aired, but it's time to triple our resolve, not to give in! It's time to set up some infrastructure and dive into some serious save-teh-show projects.  Lauren's exit interview with Michael Ausiello at TV Guide does NOT mean that all is lost -- she was taken aback by the abrupt cancellation of the series (no matter how much she tries to spin it) and moreover, nobody looks forward to auditions (as she mentioned to Ausiello that she's having to start doing), so Lauren even noting it is a cry for help.  Furthermore, Scott Patterson said in no uncertain terms in his exist interview with Ausiello that he is not happy with the way that the show ended.  MOREOVER, Kelly Bishop and Liza Weil both voiced their unhappiness with the abruptness of the show ending in a Washiington Post article posted on Tuesday, May 15th at
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/14/AR2007051401693.html (free and fast registration may be required.)  Encouragingly, Farscape got its four-hour miniseries LONG after the show was cancelled.  Firefly's "Serenity" epilogue was greenlit LONG after that show was cancelled -- and that became a theatrical movie.  Not saying that Gg would go to the big screen, but the perseverance -- the hard work -- of these show's fandoms BEYOND their shows' so-called endings resulted in proper endings for those shows.

4)  Please send your daisies through your local florist.  There are many sources from your local florist to the internet through which you can send daisies to Ms. Ostroff.  Two of the biggest online alternatives include FTD.com and, 1-800flowers.com, both of whom operate national delivery services through local florists anyway.  Many of the online florists only promote $40 vase arrangements of daisies, which may be beyond a Gg fan's budget.  A dozen daisies would likely come in a typical cellophane wrap if they're bought by the stem.  Order the daisies in the way that is best for you.

5) Send yellow daisies ONLY because that's the color of Lorelai.

6) Send your daisies to Dawn Ostroff at the following address:

Ms. Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment
The CW Television Network
4000 Warner Blvd., Bldg 168
Burbank, CA 91522-0002

AND to Lauren and/or Alexis (especially Alexis) at the addresses of their management teams at:

Lauren Graham
c/o John Carrabino Management
100 North Crescent Dr.
G-400
Beverly Hills, CA 90210

Alexis Bledel
c/o Flutie Entertainment
6500 Wilshire Blvd
Suite 2240
Los Angeles, CA 90048

You can, of course, send small message cards with your bouquet.  The rule is this:  BE POLITE AND POSITIVE.  Do NOT write anything like "I hate you because you cancelled Gilmore Girls!" or "I'm sad that you cancelled Gimore Girls" or "I won't watch The CW ever again unless you uncancel Gilmore Girls."  I totally understand, respect and even share those feelings, but, after all, it's not something that Lorelai or Rory would do in this situation.  Instead, write something like "Please renew Gilmore Girls!" or "Please uncancel Gilmore Girls" and sign it with at least your name and address so that they know how far Gg's fanbase has spread throughout the country and the world.

7) DEADLINE: EVERYDAY is the official deadline. Any day that Daisies or letters or voicemails or email arrive ESPECIALLY because the Fall Schedule was announced at the Upfronts WILL still help!  They need the input about what you think about the fall schedule (and don't say, "It sucks because Gilmore Girls is not on it."

Cool  There is no 8 yet.  That’s the whole point.

9) Please post to this thread when you've sent a bouquet.  Even one hundred bouquets of just a dozen daisies sent to Ms. Ostroff will surpass the 1000 mark of daisies from LD&T and I am sure that we'll send a lot more than that.

10)  Please spread the word of "Operation:  Daisy Duke" around to other MBs and forums that have enthusiastic Gilmore supporters.  Some of the obvious boards are FanForum, the cwtv.com lounge, etc.  We don't want to annoy people, especially since there are people who post to multiple MBs.  But still, let us know which MBs it gets posted to and provide a link to this thread or to the Great 8 Mandate thread.  If you so desire, please copy this entire post to that forum.

Let's spread the word!  "Operation:  Daisy Duke" continues!

-- Rob
