there's an article on http://www.kellybishop.de.vu/ that i find worth reading. it's a bit spoilery. but it seems like we won't be satisfied with the series finale AT ALL...

IMO these are the most important parts:

...Tonight, "Gilmore Girls" comes to an end after seven seasons -- six on the now-extinct WB, the current one on the CW -- and, according to more than one cast member, the conclusion is less than satisfying. (The network did not provide an advance copy of the episode.) One of those shows that had only decent ratings but a tremendously loyal following, "Gilmore" wraps up in a way that series regular Kelly Bishop describes as "disrespectful" to fans.

"There's so much written into that script, it almost seemed as if -- certainly with my character, certainly with Lorelai and Luke -- that we were ready to move on to the next story line," says Bishop, who plays Emily Gilmore, Lorelai's often prickly mother. "That we were ready to begin the next season in the very next moment . . . I see a series of dots after the last scene of the show, rather than a period, or better yet, an exclamation point."

There was a sense this was coming. After contract negotiations with its two stars (Graham and Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory) dragged on, "Gilmore" wrapped its season finale before it was certain that it would also be the series finale. For a brief blip, hope surged that the show would return for an abbreviated 13-episode season in the fall. But the network pulled the plug a few weeks ago.

"I felt like the bottom dropped out," Bishop says. "I thought [the 13-episode season] was excellent because we could really wrap up the stories nice and neat and kind of give the audience a chance to say goodbye."...

...Luke and Lorelai, meanwhile, are in another one of those moments where they are misreading signals and not talking to each other about how they feel and generally stalling on their way to a magnificent future together. We think.

"There are suggestions that it would be resolved that way," Herrmann says, "but we'll never know, because we didn't know it was going to be over. You don't have the emotionally satisfying moments. After seven years, each of those storylines needs its own episode, almost."

What will happen will be a town-wide graduation party for Rory, one last hurrah for the fictional hamlet of Stars Hollow, with all its quirky and endearing regulars -- Sookie and Jackson, Lane and Zack, Kirk and Taylor, Miss Patty and Babette. With such a crowded final setting, Bishop says, it was hard to have many intimate moments.

"It's unfortunate that, I think, a lot of those fans are going to think there isn't closure," says Liza Weil, who plays Rory's best friend, Paris, and who points out that the writers were hamstrung by the situation. "Hopefully, there won't be toilet paper in the trees of all the writers."...

 Embarrassed

EDIT: i just noticed that this was posted before in "show and cast member news". sorry.

Oh my God.  This isn't fair!

Edward Herrmann
Kelly Bishop
Liza Weil
and in an interview with Scott Patterson

ALL of them dislike the way the show is ending.  This is...an atrocity.

Somehow it makes me sad that even some characters don't agree with tonight's episode being a nice episode to end the series,,,they say there are some missing scenes that a short 13 episode season would complete it. Some of them agree with us!
So let's keep mandating, we know it's not over and some actors believe in that too.
We must keep emailing, mailing, sending flowers anything,,,cause this can't be the end of the best show ever.

I hate the CW!  (I'm just at step 2 of the grieving process.  I passed step 1 two days ago after reading the SP interview.  I'll get to step 5 after step 3 and 4 are served on the rocks with a twist! Thank you, Sookie!)
Honestly, when four of the major cast members admit in an interview that they are unsatisfied with the ending, what do you expect from the fans?

You're right KuKuLeNiLeNi! It's nice to know that some (or even most ?) of the actors are on our side! That makes it easier for us to hope and keep doing our best to get GG uncancelled! I'm from Europe so i won't see the episode tonight, but that's okay since i'm not really prepared to watch the last GG episode... Be brave guys!!  Embarrassed

I'm also from Europe and I won't be watching it tonight, but I'm dreading tomorrow when I read what people think about it and I actually get to watch it. How come the CW doesn't respect what fans want?...Ha! They don't even respect what they real important characters want either.I wished they would fight against it as we are fighting...

LoveMeSomeGG reported to me that she's had some luck with these phone numbers.  Keep them handy for after tonight's episode!
Call them tonight, call them tomorrow during the day.  If Kelly Bishop is right, this only adds reasons to go on with the campaign whether Gg isn't uncancelled by Thursday or not.  (Oooo!  Double negative, sorry!

The CW comment line: 818 977 6878

The CW main line: 818 977 2500

Paul Mcguire: 818 977 0040

In addition, if anyone knows where to find a separate line for Dawn Ostroff, please post it here.  I'm going to be a little busy buying my daisies today.  So the help will be appreciated.

Yeah, me too!
I don't understand The CW either... It just doesn't make sense to me why they're doing this... I bet it's all about the money or whatever, i don't know. Anyway, I'm very disappointed that they don't even care about what the actors think about the ending. That's really sad!
But hey, this mandate is amazing and so are the people involved in it! I still can't believe that so many GG fans are sooo ambitious! I'm really blown away!!!
So be optimistic, we still have a chance!  Wink

I love Kelly Bishop!!!  I'm glad she isnt holding back, I guess she figures she has nothing to lose!

BTW, I did some digging at the link cited -- it's a Washington Post article that has been posted today (link below).

This is absolutely great news.  I'm now going to cross-post something that I just wrote at TwoP, where they're very cynical about the show's chances for revival:

Hey, I understand the sentiment and the feeling of defeat with the news that the sets have been torn down. There are a couple of things to remember about that news, though:

1) Somewhere around 60% of the interiror sets were going to be torn down anyway. Yale, anything having to do with Logan and the Huntzbergers, New Haven surroundings such as the bar, etc. These are not an issue in the least as far as rebuilding the sets go.

2) The exteriors are NOT torn down and will stay -- the exteriors of the entire town square, including Luke's Diner & apartment, and the exteriors of , Lorelai's house (and the backside), the exterior of the Dragonfly (which was the Walton house), Mrs. Kim's antiques, etc. -- They're all standing sets that have been around for decades -- and likely for the most part haven't even been repainted yet.

3) The few interiors that might or might not have been struck, those that are on soundstages -- Lorelai's house, the Dragonfly, Luke's Diner, the Gilmore Mansion -- are easy to rebuild. That's what blueprints are for -- especially if particular expensive set pieces (IMO in the Dragonfly and the Gilmore mansion) have been returned to stock rather than destroyed. Rebuilding a few sets is cheap -- sets have been rebuilt after cancellations before (Farscape, for example). It's not nearly as big a concern as if they were going to rebuild Yale and the other sets that we wouldn't be seeing anyway next season. Props aren't the only things returned to stock -- usable set pieces are also returned to stock and can therefore be easily retrieved. Otherwise, rebuilding these interiors is a relatively minor expense, particularly since none of them required the humongous expense of the real cherry wood veneers of the Yale set that almost busted the budget of Gg and shut it down for two weeks at the end of s4.

4) Kelly Bishop and Liza Weil were interviewed by the Washington Post's Jennifer Frey in an article that was posted at:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/14/AR2007051401693.html and archived at this blog:
http://flyingmaniac.compi-01.de/Interviews/2007-05-15isthisreallygoodbyegirls.html They are NOT happy with the way the season ended. They do NOT think that the episode makes a valid series finale.

5) Reviving this series would be FAR easier than anyone thinks -- *even* if the actors contracted for s8 -- mostly, the opening-credits actors other than LG and AB -- have been released from their contracts, the relatively short time since the cancellation was announced would likely prompt those actors to jump back onboard if the show is revived (contracts are cheap, especially if all that's needed is to re-date them, Moreover, most of the Townies such as Sally Struthers and Liz Torres, are not under contract; they are only used on an episode-to-episode/as needed basis and the show has worked around their schedules for other projects. In Struthers's case, for a lot of live theater and a few guest appearances on other TV shows.

6) Some phone numbers that will come in handy to call after the episode airs tonight:

The CW comment line: 818 977 6878

The CW main line: 818 977 2500

Paul Mcguire: 818 977 0040

7) In conclusion, IMO: now's not the time to wallow, don't break out the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Get ready to call the CW and your local affiliate.

Update as of May 9th, 2007 ...

After last night's episode my inbox has been FLOODED with e-mail from Gilmore fans inquiring how to save their favorite show from extinction. For those that still hold season 8 hope near and dear to their hearts, you can send Gilmore support letters to the following contacts:

E-mail The CW at [email protected] or send snail mail to the following address.

Ms. Dawn Ostroff
President of Entertainment, The CW Television Network
4000 Warner Blvd., Bldg 168
Burbank, CA 91522-0002

Despite what contact method you use, please remember that time is of the essence.

Update as of May 5th, 2007 ...

What is the Great8Mandate Daisy Campaign?

As we've all heard, Warner Bros. and The CW recently announced the cancellation of our Girls.  In order to show 'the powers that be' that Gilmore fans are truly dedicated and still stand behind season 8, the Great8Mandate Daisy Campaign was born.  Taking a cue from our favorite show, the Daisy Campaign will physically deliver bouquets of daisies to important parties involved in the season 8 decision making process in hopes of changing the season 8 tides.

The exact executives/actors who will receive the daisies depends entirely on how much money the campaign raises.  It would be safe to assume that our first targets are people like Dawn Ostroff (President of Entertainment, The CW Television Network), Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Peter Roth (President, Warner Brothers Television) and so on.

How can I participate and send daisies?

There are two ways to participate in the Daisy Campaign.  Supporters can either send bouquets of daisies on their own, or they can send money to GilmoreGirls.org via PayPal so that resources can be pooled together.

What happens once I send money to GilmoreGirls.org?

Every dollar that is sent to GilmoreGirls.org for the Daisy Campaign will be used for purchasing flowers.  GilmoreGirls.org will work closely with local florists to ensure that money is spent properly and on something Gilmore fans will be proud of.  If possible, photos will be taken of the daisy bouquets.  At the very least GilmoreGirls.org will provide receipts for all flower purchases so that participants can see exactly how money was sent.

How can I send money to GilmoreGirls.org for the Daisy Campaign?

PayPal payments can be sent to: [email protected]  Sorry, donations are no longer being accepted.  Our orders for daisies was placed on May 8th, 2007.

What is PayPal?

PayPal.com is a company/service that allows individuals to send and receive money online.  It's free, secure, and a fast way to send payments.  Users can send payments using a credit card, debit card, or bank account.  For first time PayPal users, I suggest visiting PayPal.com and taking a look around.  It only takes a few minutes to sign up for an account and send a payment.

When is the last day money can be sent in for the Daisy Campaign?

As of this moment, the campaign's deadline is May 13th.  Depending on how much money is raised, GilmoreGirls.org may choose to send multiple bouquets of daisies, or one giant bouquet.  If at any point news is released that there is zero (absolutely no hope) for a season 8 revival, GilmoreGirls.org will stop accepting payments for the campaign.

If I have questions about the Daisy Campaign, who can I contact?

All questions, comments, and suggestions are all welcome.  Please feel free to post them in this thread.  If you'd prefer to contact GilmoreGirls.org via e-mail, write to [email protected].

Final comments

Please don't donate money to the Daisy Campaign if it will be any kind of financial hardship.  No one should feel bad if they can't participate; this is just one of many ways to participate in the Great8Mandate.  Please also go into this campaign with eyes wide open.  Meaning, this grand gesture probably won't save our Girls.  You probably won't receive any kind of thank you from Dawn, Lauren, or Alexis.  This is simply our way of trying to persuade the powers that be.  Our way of knowing that we did everything possible to save our favorite show.

Update as of May 3rd, 2007 ...

Gilmore ... gone. Grab your kleenex and prepare to say your goodbyes. Our Girls won't be back for an eighth season. A joint statement from the CW and Warner Bros. reads: "The final season of Gilmore Girls is truly a sad moment for everyone at the CW and Warner Bros. Television. This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters."

In the event anyone's interested, here are Heidi's thoughts ...

1.  I'm not going to lie or sugarcoat things; the show is probably (most likely) canceled.  The network has released a statement saying as much, etc.

2.  There's still hope.  (Ask any 7th Heaven fan. Wink)

3.  By all accounts, season 8 negotiations just broke down (we're talking within the last couple of days).  TV Guide is reporting the Gilmore crew thought season 8 was in the bag (and I can confirm that as well).

4.  It helps that we have two new Gilmore episodes before the May 17th Upfronts.  If our Girls can pull off some big numbers (ratings-wise), I don't see how The CW could not go back to the negotiation table.

What to do now? ...

Let all applicable parties know that you want (need!) season 8 ... and do it double time!  There is no right or wrong way to do this; send postcards, letters, paper flowers, real flowers, etc.  Be creative.  Whatever you decide ... just do it.  Soon.  Just do it, soon.  Wink

Dubbed the Great8Mandate, GilmoreGirls.org wants to ensure another season of our favorite show, and by pooling our collective resources ... together, we can make it happen.  This thread will act has Great8Mandate headquarters for information on how fans can support and help promote season 8 of Gilmore Girls.

How you can help ...

One of the best ways to ensure a season 8 is to simply let the right people know that fans still support the show.  Below, you'll find a list of snail mail and e-mail addresses for important contacts.  To participate in The Great8Mandate, all you need to do is write well thought out letters to the people below expressing why you want season 8.  Letters don't need to be lengthy (unless you want them to be); they just need to be personal and heartfelt

It has been said that one piece of snail mail equates to the views/opinions of one-hundred viewers.  GilmoreGirls.org and the ORG Forum have tens of thousands of visitors each day.  If just a fraction of those people participate in the Great8Mandate, it would be considered a success.

Great8Mandate Stationary: Use this if you'd like to include the Great8Mandate logo in the background of your letter.  Feel free to customize things as you see fit.

Great8Mandate Flyer:  If writing isn't your thing or if you're someone who's extremely busy, simply print this out and mail it to one of the addresses below.  It still gets the point across.

Two quick comments ...

The above information was publicly accessible, so I don't feel terribly guilty about sharing it with the Gilmore masses.  However, with that said, if you choose to e-mail either person, please do so in a respectful and supportive manner.  The Great8Mandate is a positive fan campaign created to express our support for the show and its actors.

Update as of February 27th, 2007 ...

Earlier today I e-mailed someone very involved with publicity for Gilmore Girls and The CW in general regarding the status and likelihood of season 8.  I also inquired as to whether or not The Great8Mandate was making an impact and being seen by the right people.

I received a reply just a little while ago and the gist of things was very positive.  My personal favorite line of the response was "Hello Heidi -- We are very aware of the Great8Mandate here at The CW and we appreciate everything you're doing in support of the show."  I have to say, that feels pretty good.

In reference to season 8, my contact said, "Rest assured we are definitely working on it."  A season 8 decision will be made public no later than May 17th (as that's when the network announces its fall schedule at the upfront in New York).  However, if the show gets an early pickup it's likely that we can expect an announcement before then.

We were also encouraged to keep up our efforts.

Thank you!

~Heidi

Ugh this is so frustrating.  The actors are clearly unhappy with the finale, so I imagine they want another season.  The fans want another season.  And i cant imagine the CW wants to get rid of one of thier best shows.  Seems like a no brainer that the show should be back next year...

Thank you guys for posting the newest articles. I just can't believe how wrong this whole thing is. Almost everyone has admitted by now that the series finale is not a satisying one and that another 13-episodes-season would bring closure.
Too bad we haven't heard anything from Alexis yet, but she'd probably say the same thing as Lauren - which is a bit more different from what everyone else has said so far (concerning the finale).

Hey, European here too ... can't watch the finale until tomorrow either Sad  .. which annoys me more than usually cause either I'll read everything that happened here on the board tomorrow morning, or I'll have to stay away until I saw the episode (which is also not a good choice since I am already really addicted to the board *lol*). Well, can't change that now anyway, but at least there's a German episode on right now.

BTW, I checked about my flower sending cause they didn't send me any receipt or something that they have been delivered and they now confirmed that they were delivered on May 8th. So if anyone still wants to send flowers, I can totally recommend www.flowermoments.com (if you're going to order there, you can use the coupon code "VIP" to get 10% off!!).

So far, I am really glad that we have new people joining us every day and that everyone still wants to fight for it and works so hard and dedicated!!

@Rob ... Special thanks to you for all your comments and links to this thread on tvguide.com .. I followed the discussion after the S.P. interview was posted and people were not that nice - so *prettystick* Smiley
