@Heidi, thank you so much for the effort to the daisy-campaign, I so much hope it'll work...!!!

Would you know anything about last night's ratings??

Thank you,
Billie

Billie, overnight ratings usually start getting posted to Usenet around 9 or 10am Eastern time (about 8-9 hours from now) -- a columnist for a magazine called MediaWeek does really bad cursory analyses of the overnights.  He's likely to not take into consideration the fact that KTLA pre-empted Gg and VM to cover the fires in L.A.'s Macarthur Park.  The ratings are likely going to be very skewed, but they have ways of guesstimating what L.A.'s ratings for Gg might have been by comparing them to the average ratings for the episode in the rest of the country -- if it got, say, 5-10% increases in ratings across the rest of the country, then they could guesstimate a 5-10% increase for what the ratings in L.A. would have been without the fires and thus get a rough idea of what the real ratings for the episode shoudl be overall.  I have a friend on Usenet who tracks ratings, particularly the CW's, very closely, so I'll see what he has to say about how the fires affected Gg's ratings.

Could be an advantage for us.  Such a bad pre-empt has already brought on a flood of calls to the station, so the number of L.A. locals who flood KTLA with calls, the better.  KTLA is one of the largest stations in one of the largest markets in the country, so if they detect a LOT of viewer anger about Gg, the CW will definitely hear about that.

Thanks, Rob, for the explanation. Okay, another thing to wait for....

I just watched some report of the fire (http://ktla.trb.com/news/ktla-hot,0,4422309.story?coll=ktla-news-2), looks really bad. Hope, the injured person get's well!

A bit strange, that they are not replaying (?) this episode if they had to cut it last this night? At least the next morning or so?

Maybe people should call and demand this!!! The more, the better - let them see, how many people are out there wanting those girls!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there Smiley

First of all thanks to Heidi and everyone who supported the Daisy Campaign!! I am really glad that you found a florist who came up to your expectations! And I am really looking forward to the pictures from the bouquets!! I also LOVED the text that u wrote on the cards Smiley

Also thanks to Bill, who found out all the advertisers from the last GG epsiode ... I already started my research for contacts (was easy with some companies, others don't give their media contacts on the homepage) .. I have about 8 contacts now but I will continue now as I have some free time. I'll upload the list on a server as soon as I am done and post the link here on the board.

I hope, interrupting yesterday's GG episode didn't affect the ratings too much - but I think we'll know that in a couple of hours?!

BTW: I was just going to read through Ausiello's latest scoop on GG (which I would NOT recommend to spoiler-free people Wink ) .. however, Matt (Logan) gives a little interview there and it says that he is currently in Austria, Vienna to visit his family .... so Billie, Lauren, and everyone else who is from Vienna - keep your eyes open  Grin

Here's the complete inital ratings (commonly referred to as overnights) for last night.  NOTE:  Despite the *huge* discrepancy between Gg's ratings and VM's ratings -- VM's were, I think, an all-time low -- down 600K from last week -- , I do not know at the present time how much their ratings were affected by the Griffith Park fire.  VM's low ratings were clearly due to the fire, but since KTLA aired the first five minutes of Gg before cutting to fire coverage it's theoretically possible that Gg's ratings don't count any loss of viewers due to fire coverage.  OTOH, they do a breakdown the ratings by the half-hour, so it's quite possible that Gg's ratings INCLUDE the losses from the fire news.

NOTE #1:  I've read on Usenet that KTLA announced on their Morning News today that they are airing Gg and VM on Saturday
night.

NOTE #2:  Berman was very nice to Gg this morning.  He's usually snarkastic about it.  Very nastily snarkastic.

I'm going to bold Gg and VM's ratings for comparison.

----------------------------------

from Marc Berman at mediaweek

Tuesday 5/08/07

The following results are based on the fast national ratings (Live
Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
Fox: 23.02 million, CBS: 10.93, ABC: 10.48, NBC: 7.62, CW: 2.92

-Adults 18-49:
Fox: 8.9 rating/25 share, ABC and CBS: 2.8/ 8 each, NBC: 2.4/ 7, CW:
1.4/ 4

----------

-Yesterday's Winners:
American Idol (Fox), House (Fox)

-Down but Still Dominant:
Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

-Honorable Mention:
NCIS (CBS)

-Yesterday's Losers (excluding repeats):
George Lopez (ABC), Dateline (NBC), Law & Order: Criminal Intent
(NBC), Veronica Mars (CW)

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Led by American Idol and House, Fox roared past the Tuesday
competition as usual. CBS was a distant second in total viewers, while
tying ABC for No. 2 among adults 18-49. Fourth was struggling NBC,
followed by an uneventful The CW.

American Idol opened the evening with 24.49 million viewers and an 8.9
rating/27 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that beat
CBS' still potent NCIS (Viewers: 13.73 million; A18-49: 3.1/ 9) by
10.76 million viewers and 187 percent among adults 18-49. For those
wondering how Idol stacks up to one year earlier, the final national
performance on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 was a more lucrative 28.85 million
viewers and an 11.6/31 in the demo.

Also in the 8 p.m. hour was NBC's overused Dateline (Viewers: #3, 5.02
million; A18-49: #5, 1.4/ 4), the second-to-last episode of The CW's
Gilmore Girls (Viewers: #5, 3.96 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 5),
and two
episodes (including the season or series finale) of ABC's George
Lopez. Take a look at the lackluster results for George Lopez:

ABC/Wednesday
8:00 p.m. Viewers: 4.42 million (#4), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#4)
8:30 p.m. Viewers: 4.97 million (#4), A18-49: 1.7/ 5 (#4)

As for the future of George Lopez, is there any point of renewing the
comedy after falling short of 5-million viewers last night? The series-
finale of Gilmore Girls, meanwhile, will air next Tuesday. Sadly,
there will not be an "official" last episode.

Fox's House led the 9-10 p.m. troops, with a stellar 21.55 million
viewers and an 8.9/23 among adults 18-49 (with full retention in the
demo from lead-in American Idol). ABC's live Dancing With the Stars
finished a solid second (Viewers: 16.47 million; A18-49: 4.1/11),
followed by CBS' The Unit (Viewers: #3, 10.80 million; A18-49: #3,
3.1/ Cool, NBC's Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #4, 6.94
million; A18-49: #4, 2.0/ 5), and The CW's waiting-to-be axed Veronica
Mars (Viewers: #5, 1.88 million; A18-49: #5, 0.9/ 2). No matter how
you try to spin it, Veronica Mars needs to be put out of its misery at
this point.
As for Criminal Intent, parent Law & Order's rumored move
to TNT in originals next season could mean there will be a reprieve.
But is it really worth saving at this point?

Top honors at 10 p.m. went to Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: 10.90
million; A18-49: 3.7/10), which year-to-year was down by a hefty 1.98
million viewers and 23 percent among adults 18-49 (Viewers: 12.88
million; A18-49: 4.8/13 on May 9, 2006, based on the final nationals).
Next was ABC's Boston Legal (Viewers: 10.29 million; A18-49: 2.7/ 7),
followed by a repeat of CBS' Without a Trace (Viewers: 8.26 million;
A18-49: 2.2/ 6). And there you have it - that's Tuesday.

Source: Nielsen Media Research data

-----------------------------

BTW, Gg did 3.96 last night!  Even if that includes allowances for the fire coverage that is *great* news for Gg, particularly since VM's numbers are so bad.  This is all the more reason to keep pushing on ahead.  They've *got* to be having second thoughts about VM now, even if it represents loss of viewers from fire coverage simply because Gg retained virtually all of its viewers under what appears to be the same circumstances, which implies Gg would have had a big uptick in the ratings last night -- 600-700K minimum, since that's what VM's losses were, which would put it in the 4.6 million viewer range, assuming that VM's losses were solely due to the fire.

Season 8:  Because you don't need to (try to) go to Griffith Park Observatory to see that cancelling Gg was a mistake.

It's so odd that the CW is trying so hard to keep VM.  Less than 2 million viewers?? Cmon!!!  Im glad Gilmore Girls did well in the ratings last night, it certainly cant hurt our campaign!

May I just add a bit of my anger to this thread!  After seeing last nights episode I was so angry knowing that it was one of the final two episodes.  From what I can tell these were written BEFORE they knew if the season were being cancelled, because I don't believe they would end things so poorly.  Last year 7th Heaven ended so abruptly that they were able to FINALLY get a deal for x number of episodes.  Now in my opinion the quality of 7th Heaven has greatly deteriorated since it's glory days, but maybe we have a chance.  I was so upset after last night and watching the promo, I almost screamed out loud.  A quality show like Gilmore Girls DOES NOT deserve to end with so many loose ends. Shows like Sex and the City, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Friends as well as many other very POPULAR well written shows had less seasons than our beloved show BUT AT LEAST THEY HAD DECENT ENDING EPISODES.  No matter if you liked who ended up with who in the end, they were done with class. WE DESERVE SOME CLASS, DON'T YOU THINK?

I agree with you.  And that's been my point all along..  We all knew it had to end sometime, but we didn't think it would happen so abruptly.  It's unfair.  That's why I think we should keep the campaign going until the very end.   Wink
