You're amazing, folks! I'm totally impressed!
I'm thinking about sending some letters too, but I don't know if they'd arrive in time...  Embarrassed (I live in Austria) I have already sent mails do Ms Ostroff and The CW, though.

By the way: Austria is all in, too!!!  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Heidi, my random ideas/comments/questions:

$250 in 2 days is quite impressive, maybe you can send a first 'wave' of flowers now, and if you continue to get flooded with donations you can do another delivery.

I think you should send the first batch to Dawn O.; she needs to realize that her network *needs* this show, and the ball is in her court to keep her word and "do whatever it takes" to go back to LG and AB and offer them a respectable contract they can work with.

Is there any way of being able to include the names & locations (not last names or specific address) of the people who donated (ie. Julie D., Utah) so that she can see how widespread the support is??

Also, on the card included, maybe you should have them write something witty so that Dawn (or whomever) gets the implication (just in case she's slow):
just an example- "Lorelai once said the perfect proposal included being surrounded by 1,000 yellow daises... here is our best shot, to propose to you to please bring back our favorite show???"  (I know that's too long and not quite right, but you know what I'm getting at...)

*
aww, ReflectingLight- your post was so sweet; and I love your sig Smiley
I think that this is a really good idea. We as Gilmore fans know all the inside jokes- I doubt that the study execs have the time to keep up with every single exact story line of every single show on their network... the only thing they are concerned with are ratings numbers.....

I'm still deciding on what to include in the card, but I agree ... whatever the conclusion is will be straight to the point and easy to understand.  (And, of course, I'll try and be witty and/or include some Gilmore-isms if possible.)

It will be hard to include the name of every Daisy Campaign contributor on the card, but I'll make sure Dawn knows that this was an international Gilmore community effort.

I have an Idea- along with the daisy's I think we should include a card - It could say what Lorelai said to Max that prompted the 1000 daisy's- this is what she said:

"Gvie me clue to as whether you are kidding or not"
" Max you did not just propose to me , a proposal has to be something more than desperate desire to end a bickering match.
"It has to be planned, it should be magical, there should be music playing, romantic lighting, a subtle build up to the popping of the big question.  There should 1000 yellow daisy's and candles and a horse .    It should be more than this!"

We could change it a bit -  Instead of"  Max you did not just propose to me a proposal "  We could some something like - CW you did not just cancel GG on us, an ending of a show  should be something more than a desperate desire to end a standoff....

What do you guys think?

Glad you like it.  I was just watching that episode and it hit me.  We should have know GG was going to end.  We could have had parties and prepared ourself for it ..... It should have a good ending not a rushed unplanned ending......just like L said -  it should be magical, there should be music playing, romantic lighting, a subtle build up to the popping of the big question.  There should 1000 yellow daisy's and candles and a horse .    It should be more than this!"
Definitely more than THIS

agreed! WE WERE COMPLETELY ROBBED OF OUR GOODBYE SEASON. this is out of control! we should have been given time to watch our episodes, and settle into the idea of not having it anymore, not it THROWN in our faces, with TWO episodes left, HOW DISRESPECTFUL IS THAT? They obviously don't sympathize with us! We should have known from the beginning, tried our hardest to fight, and if it didn't work, have ENOUGH time to cope with the idea and still manage to have some sort of farewell for ourselves!

Unfortunately none of my friends watch the show (blasphemy! they're nuts!) So instead of having anyone to be upset with. i'll have to cry through the commercials by myself on may 15th!

The 4th Lorelai, your artwork is great. Smiley

And I really like the idea of adding some kind of witty message on the card(s) for the daisies.

Just to say that Belgium's all in too, and that this particular computer-illiterate fries-chocolates-and-waffles-person loves all the sunny artwork you're all posting out here. Wish I could do the same. Keep up the buzz, Heidi, my money has already been sent!

What is the Great8Mandate Daisy Campaign?

As we've all heard, Warner Bros. and The CW recently announced the cancellation of our Girls.  In order to show 'the powers that be' that Gilmore fans are truly dedicated and still stand behind season 8, the Great8Mandate Daisy Campaign was born.  Taking a cue from our favorite show, the Daisy Campaign will physically deliver bouquets of daisies to important parties involved in the season 8 decision making process in hopes of changing the season 8 tides.

The exact executives/actors who will receive the daisies depends entirely on how much money the campaign raises.  It would be safe to assume that our first targets are people like Dawn Ostroff (President of Entertainment, The CW Television Network), Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Peter Roth (President, Warner Brothers Television) and so on.

How can I participate and send daisies?

There are two ways to participate in the Daisy Campaign.  Supporters can either send bouquets of daisies on their own, or they can send money to GilmoreGirls.org via PayPal so that resources can be pooled together.

What happens once I send money to GilmoreGirls.org?

Every dollar that is sent to GilmoreGirls.org for the Daisy Campaign will be used for purchasing flowers.  GilmoreGirls.org will work closely with local florists to ensure that money is spent properly and on something Gilmore fans will be proud of.  If possible, photos will be taken of the daisy bouquets.  At the very least GilmoreGirls.org will provide receipts for all flower purchases so that participants can see exactly how money was sent.

How can I send money to GilmoreGirls.org for the Daisy Campaign?

PayPal payments can be sent to: [email protected]

What is PayPal?

PayPal.com is a company/service that allows individuals to send and receive money online.  It's free, secure, and a fast way to send payments.  Users can send payments using a credit card, debit card, or bank account.  For first time PayPal users, I suggest visiting PayPal.com and taking a look around.  It only takes a few minutes to sign up for an account and send a payment.

When is the last day money can be sent in for the Daisy Campaign?

As of this moment, the campaign's deadline is May 13th.  Depending on how much money is raised, GilmoreGirls.org may choose to send multiple bouquets of daisies, or one giant bouquet.  If at any point news is released that there is zero (absolutely no hope) for a season 8 revival, GilmoreGirls.org will stop accepting payments for the campaign.

If I have questions about the Daisy Campaign, who can I contact?

All questions, comments, and suggestions are all welcome.  Please feel free to post them in this thread.  If you'd prefer to contact GilmoreGirls.org via e-mail, write to [email protected].

Final comments

Please don't donate money to the Daisy Campaign if it will be any kind of financial hardship.  No one should feel bad if they can't participate; this is just one of many ways to participate in the Great8Mandate.  Please also go into this campaign with eyes wide open.  Meaning, this grand gesture probably won't save our Girls.  You probably won't receive any kind of thank you from Dawn, Lauren, or Alexis.  This is simply our way of trying to persuade the powers that be.  Our way of knowing that we did everything possible to save our favorite show.

~Heidi

P.S. - If something isn't clear or needs further explaination, please let me know.  I'd be more than happy to address any questions or concerns.

Update:  We're up to about $305 now. Wink

Hey All,

I got a reply from David Kronke in response to an email asking if there was anything he could do to help get word of the fans' support for season 8 out there, especially in light of the "cancellation." To be honest, I'm not feeling great about it:

Jocelyn,

I think you can pretty much stick a fork in it; it's over. If there had
been any chance of the show coming back -- and of The CW desperately
wanting it back -- negotiations would've gone down to the wire, to the
morning of May 17 when the network announces its fall 2007 schedule, if
need be.

Two things killed the show in my opinion:

1) Alexis Bledell was never going to come back to the series in any
meaningful way. She had pretty much checked out already this season.

2) The show had tumbled significantly from its ratings high of 2 or 3
seasons back, when 7 million people were tuning in. This year, it's
been around 3.5, 4 million viewers a week. There might've been a mild
uptick next season for those projected 13 final episodes, but probably
not significant enough for either The CW or Warner Bros. TV to pony up
what would've been no doubt significantly more money. The show will
make money in perpetuity, as it is -- 7 years is way more than enough
to play in syndication forever; paying more for a season eight actually
would've reduced the show's profits.

Anyway, Amy Sheradon-Palladino has a pilot at Fox; maybe it'll come
close to "GG" and get picked up.

I'm sorry to be such a buzz-kill for you, but honesty tends to be the
best policy. I hope you find a new show to rally behind.

Thanks for writing,
David Kronke

Sooo... That seems to suck.  Just one opinion, true, but unfortunately these sorts of opinions about GG's fate seem to be stacking up...

On another note, ShutUpRob - I went through the posts and as far as I have seen ChocolatGilmore, divine, CathyCoffee and luvsGG have all sent daisies of their own accord thus far.  Heidi also mentioned that she's heard of others who had sent some.  Aside from this, lots of Mandaters have sent money to the Great8Mandate daisy fund.
