I believe that only people with 100 or more posts should be able to start new topics.

Wouldn't this eliminate all of the spam new threads?
Today I was innocently searching the ORG, when I saw a topic along the line of "Brunette sucks coc-*. SO not cool. I hate the people who worm their way in here and just make the ORG a place to post their bullshit. !!

I know what you mean, Fantasy.
If only the people with 100+ posts can make threads, it would stop the people who posts advertisements and things that really don't belong on the site. There's a lot of them popping up lately...

Ok this has been happening a lot lately so I wanted to bump this thread to the first page.

I would first of all like to say thank you to the members of this board who have been helping out by informing the new members about duplicate and extraneous thread.  Eventhough at times its sees uneventful everyone really does appreciate it. Keep up the good work

Second of all I would like to point out to the new members on the receiving end of this advise that we are not trying to be mean, or rude.  We are just trying to help out.  This forum is run in a very orderly fashion and that is one of the things we really like about it.  Thank you so much for understanding.

Lastly, thank you to Heidi for moving or closing all of these threads in such a timely manner.  Thank you thank you

I think maybe one way to not encourage the posting of a new duplicate thread or a thread that isn't a good topic or not appropriate, may be to just not respond to the post? Just a thought. That way the originator or author won't have any 'bait' to get them going on something that they shouldn't be. However, this could also promote them to post double posts within their thread thinking no one's paying attention to them. So, maybe posting inside the thread telling them that it's a duplicate or inappropriate thread may help? Just thinking aloud. I have noticed that there's more popping up of both types, especially in the general section. I thought at one time that Heidi had taken away the option to post a new thread, but that may have been just temporarily, while she was 'cleaning' the forum.

Yes, thank you, Heidi for taking care of such things in a timely manner! You're great!

Sooks!  haha that definitely sounds like a good idea to me.  Before anyone is allowed to create a thread they have to run the idea of the thread by people, (who are knowledgeable about the forum) so they know if a thread like that already exits.  Smart girl! Cheesy

Good idea Mela, it's our own vetting process or a nicer way to say it could be a thread creation application .... but then all of that paperwork.  Whatever would we do?Wink

I have noticed that the ability to post new topics have been disabled from numerous boards. This may work in stopping the making of duplicate threads but i kind of find it limiting Undecided . I think instead of not being able to create a thread, you should have to have been a member of the Org for a certain amount of time and have a certain number of posts. That would eliminate the stop of the threads and im pretty sure the people who have been around the longest get the hang of the rules and know what not to create. It's just my opinion, but i think not having the option to start a new topic and having to discuss the idea in order to start a topic that the person may already know has not been created could be alittle time consuming. Setting certain standards would be more fair i find rather then taking away the right to post at the exact time tgey want to and limiting everyone who knows how to abide by the rules. Just a thought Cheesy

I wonder if this has been mentioned yet...

Let the duplicate thread be created and have bot with admin powers going around the board 24/7 identifying duplicate thread and then deleting them.
